Recently shot a wedding with the 7 artisans lens (now available in USA), it worked well. Missed focus a bit, but overall I was pleased. Your review was what guided me to this lens that served well, thank you! The auto/manual button is too easy to accidently trigger, a piece of gaffer tape took care of that problem.
Great review. Totally agree the super lightweight Sony 50mm f/1.8 is a joy to use with my A7C2. This combination is so light and well balanced I sometimes even preferred the f/1.8 for city portraits over the f/1.4 GM.
I've tried both lenses. I think you are absolutely correct on the Sony being better on autofocus but loses or on par to 7artisans on everything else like image sharpness, bokeh, build quality, and features. For fringing I think both lenses produces horrendous purple fringing on contrasting images especially when shooting wide open. But I guess since both are $200 lenses you can't really complain.
Thanks for sharing. I'm actually a bit surprised to hear so many good reviews about the 7artisans lens, I mean I agree it's got amazing performance at this price, but the size and weight are the dealbreaker for me.
@@ConstantineSPhotography Gotta agree with that, especially considering that its Sony f1.8 counterpart weighs more than half. But since I'm used to heavier lenses and I like lenses that are built like tanks for some weird reason, this lens is just great for me. My only complaint is the sheer length of this thing. It seriously has no business being this long. The Sony 50mm and Samyang 45mm are about half the size of this beast.

@@ConstantineSPhotography How does the Samyang fare compared to this? I haven't tried that one yet. Also about the Yongnuo, I didn't even know the Yongnuo made the 50mm f1.8 for sony FE. But I heard good things about their 35mm f1.8 for sony FE though so maybe I'll look around as well!
@@denalia_moto yes as long as you buy the e-mount lens you can use this lens for both full frame and apsc systems. But on zve10 it will be 50*1.5=75mm equivalent, so the perspective is narrower
Great video, very much appreciated! I really prefer the beauty of the image from the 7Artisans, but I'm not sure it's enough to overcome the slight disadvantages of being a non-native lens...
@@ConstantineSPhotography Based on reviews like yours, I made an offer on eBay and got a new 7artisans 50mm F1.8 FE for $175! I feel like I owe you a commission 😀. Thanks again!

@@justlikeswimming5988 Thanks for sharing! The af/ mf switch doesn’t bother me as much as the weight😅
Colors look better on sony in video performance at 5:40 Please share your opinion?
This is tough, I can't really tell the difference in color, maybe the footage from 7artisans looks a bit more blue?

Thanks! After changing from A7IV to a7cii, I’ve been searching for compact lenses, and I think this sony 50 1.8 is perfect.

I don't have a comparison, but the Samyang 45mm also has some fringing problem. I'll make a comparison about the samyang lens versus Yongnuo 50 f1.8.

I didn't think that the 7artisans was as good as Sony's native lenses
Which aspect of 7artisans do you think has better performance?

Both lenses are cheap, 7artisants even cheaper About US$30ish less here in Indonesia.
