    All photography content should be like this. Someone doing photography. Doesn't have to be street photography, but why is 90% of photography content on youtube just someone sitting at a desk talking as they fondle a $6000 camera?

    I got it for my A7IV and don’t regret it ! Yes it’s slightly slower AF but still for the normal street / landscape / portrait stuff it’s absolutely nice and will not let you down for the price point. Build quality also better than Samyang Af45 1.8 and not as much Color noise in low light 🎉

      @@darailvesnevaPara video no. El enfoque es lento y muy ruidoso. Para fotografía tranquila está bien por el precio.
      El Sigma contemporary 50 f2 es muy bueno y tiene una construcción muy buena, pero es más caro.

      AF @ f7.1 & smaller acts a little wierd, a little noisy too. I bought this FE 50 f/1.8 some 6 yrs ago as a portrait lens on a6000. Had used my fav m-mount 40 f/2 on both A6 & a7 series for some yrs. Now the viltrox 40 f/2.5 gets quality w/ AF in both worlds & cheap too. Will get the TT 75 f/2 (75 & 105 equiv.) But none will replace the FE 28-60 as an everywhere quality compact carry (almost anytime, if not for the slightly smaller apertures). Both the 50 & 85 FE 1.8 are (sony econ class) keepers ! A very recent review of photos made w/ a6000 +m40 a few yrs ago ===> wow ! That 10-yr old body will stay (as long as it wants to !!!) .

    I have had a similar question in January. I tried Samyang's 50/1.4 II which is more moderate in terms of pricing than the other 1.4 options. While it has the better AF (it is silent, so better for video work as well), I did find it harder to really nail focus on f1.4 due to the very shallow DOF. Working with 1.8 is a bit more forgiving (at least feels like that). When talking about 1.4 vs. 1.2, I don't really know why I would get the 1.2 GM over the 1.4 because the latter is excellent too and it is quite a bit more lightweight and smaller.
    Plus, I really like the focus rings on these older standard FE lenses. I have had the 24-105 G and while many people say G and GM feels so much better in terms of build quality, both rings on that lens (5 different ones!) were a disaster. No resistance at all on the focus ring, complete lack of precise control.
    The 50/1.8 is a great lens if you want it cheap, small, lightweight, with a fast aperture. Nothing wrong with this lens. Point of shooting stills isn't always to look for imperfections in the corners or CAs, but looking for an impression on the whole. That's what you can do with this lens with no problems.

    I’m definitely getting a boom mic that attaches to my hot shoe so I don’t have to worry about the sound when shooting video. If I buy that new attachment I just saw and minus that price from the $2000 lens I just save myself 1700 bucks for the same quality, great video

      I've got both 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 FE and the 85 definitely felt much sharper when I started using it. Then I switched back to 50 after a few photoshoots and realized the 85mm is not "THAT" much sharper. I actually love both for the weight/size/price, theres like a 5-10% difference in sharpness but not based on tests, only by looking at photos myself.

    I have a fairly old Sony A55 that I've had since it was released, and picked up the A-mount SAL1850 shortly after. I'm far from a professional, but even my untrained eye realized how much better the pictures were with that lens over the kit lens... 18-55mm 3.5-5.6. It still is my preferred lens when using that camera. There was a 50mm 1.4 available but it was like twice the price.
    There was also a 35mm 1.8 also available, but I read it did pretty bad fish-eyeing especially up close.

      Do minolta maxxum A-mount lenses work on sony a77, a55 dslr? They focus w/ a screw too? I like to use the 100-300 APO & 24-50 but none of the sony adapters would make them work on a a7iv.

    • @Nekzus
      @Nekzus 18 днів тому

      @user-pg5rt7ju4f I believe they do. The Sony lenses have an AutoFocus/Manual Focus switch to go along with the AF/MF switch on the camera body. I always figured this was due to a legacy lens system.

    You should mention that the auto focus on the f1.8 is a joke on versions prior to the a7iii.

    • @ponkje
      @ponkje 5 місяців тому

      I'm not very familiar with all of this and I found a bargain for my newly acquired a5100, does this mean I should look at something else?

    • @johndwilliams
      @johndwilliams 5 місяців тому +2

      @@ponkje The auto focus software in the Sony a7 range was improved from the a7iii onwards. I used one of these FE 50mm lenses on my a7rii and it was painfully slow. Unfortunately, there's no software upgrade available for it. I would imagine that the a6000 and any Sony aps-c cameras like your own would be the same. I believe the a6400 is much faster at auto focus.
      Frankly, the Sony E 50mm F1.8 oss lens designed for aps-c cameras is much better than the FE 50mm f1.8. I often wished I could've used it as 50mm lens on my a7rii! Very fast auto focus, usually can be found for less money and excellent sharpness. The main reason that the FE 50mm sold at all was that it's the cheapest, full frame lens Sony ever made.
      Remember that any 50mm lens on your a5100 will give the full frame equivalent of about 75mm. Not a problem as long as you are aware of it.
