That's AWESOME! I can't believe you did this all with a chainsaw! I mean, I've used mine to get the rough shape but then I use a grinder and my Dremel and finish with chisels and files. That's truly amazing!!
This was my 3rd or 4th carving so I only had a chainsaw at that point 😂 I have a few more tools to get finer detail with now! I don’t even know how to use a chisel, that sounds super cool!
You must be the most natural wood carver in the world. I’m one of those people that’s kind of good at everything I do, and I tried carving my first bear, what a disaster. I ended up cutting his head off and made a smaller terrible bear. Lol. Keep the amazing work because you might just be the one
Wow you are too kind! It’s not as easy as it looks, I have people tell me all the time that it looks easy! Well this owl was my 4th ever time using a chainsaw, I actually gave this carving to my mom and dad! You gotta check out my newer stuff, try to learn a bit, and keep trying! My first bear was a disaster as well, try an owl they are much more forgiving 😉
It does look like an evolved version of the Pokémon Hoothoot haha! I have been watching Ryan Cook, he is awesome and I have been learning so much from him! Thank you so much for watching 😁
I've been just recently starting myself I've been watching all these videos and I love doing art but this is a whole new type of art way different than just drawing on paper having something like a 3d stature . Absolutely beautiful . Good for you . You make look so easy . Lol
@@chrissyc8682 I just started doing this in the middle of August so I have a lot to learn myself! Currently I am carving white pine - it carves really well, it's abundant here in Maine, and it's relatively cheap so it has been my go-to. I plan to carve many wood types in the future to see which one I like best! I don't think there is a best wood, each carver just has their preference wood. I would however start with softer woods like pine, basswood, cottonwood, etc. Getting that 2d drawing/idea into a 3d sculpture has definitely been one of my biggest challenges. It takes a lot of brain power and staring at the log for me lol! Definitely very different than drawing, but that's what makes it so challenging and rewarding! Don't give up and keep trying, it's such a fun and rewarding hobby! Every challenge is a learning opportunity :)
@@TayMarie23 thank you so much for all help and information I really appreciate it . If you are already this good for just starting wow that's crazy I would of thought u been doing this for long time I live in Canada Ontario just moved up north surrounding by thousands beautiful trees only thing I was curious about is if use a dead tree that's been cured for while or ?
So ure new in carving and only using an electric chainsaw with a regular bar, no dremels or die grinder at all, may i say you have a really really big talent found. This is just awesome, greetings from germany.
Wow thank you, you are so kind! I have a few more tools since that doing carving. My elderly neighbor is letting me borrow his die grinder to see if I like it and I bought a cheap angle grinder! They have been really helpful! I still need to figure out if I can put a carving bar on this chainsaw. I’m assuming you carve as well? :)
@@esnassedreieck2280 I'm starting to realize this, a carving bar would be game changing! I still have a lot to learn about chainsaws in general as this electric one is the first one I have ever held. Any recommended set ups for a saw/carving bar?
@@TayMarie23 Im using a stihl ms 180 for blocking and rough cuts and a small echo with a dime tip bar, but i also have two stihl electric chainsaws one with a carving bar, its good when you dont want to annoy your neigjbours too much 🤣
@@esnassedreieck2280 I'm lucky that both of my neighbors have small saw mills and run their chainsaws almost as much as me haha! I use the electric corded saw mostly because of it's weight. I weight like 125 lbs soaking wet and I'm afraid a gas saw will be too heavy for me to work long days with. But that's just an assumption since I have never even held one haha! I'm sure I could handle something like your small echo or a smaller Stihl with a dime tip.
This is an older vid! That owl was my 4th ever carving, I’m on to bigger and better things now! I started with an electric saw, Oregons CS1500, still have and love it. If you want to go gas you can’t go wrong with a Stihl MS170 . It’s a great affordable gas saw, and if you outgrow it, it will then become your detail saw! And if end up not liking carving it’s a great homeowners chainsaw 😊
@@TayMarie23 Oh that's actually pretty good! Thank you so much, I know nothing about chainsaws so anyone I searched was allways too expensive, the stihl Ms170 Is more in my price range!
I had never held one prior to when I started last August! It takes a bit of time to get comfortable with them, but I promise this is such an enjoyable hobby, so enjoy I do this for a living now! Yah the MS170 is quite affordable, for larger saws look into ECHO, they are more affordable then Sthil. My electric CS1500 I bought for $100 off of Amazon 👍🏻
