      Thank you! Good day TayMarie, I love the detail in your carvings. would love to see a tutorial on how to carve the climbing bear some time. At around 8mins when you are making the fur with the tip of the chainsaw. The danger of a kickback is pretty high, right? Do you have any safety tips for that? Thank you, its a beautiful bear

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  3 місяці тому

      That is a carving bar being used to fur so the chance of kickback is rather low, and if it occurred, it would be mild and easily corrected! Carving bars have a hardened metal nose with no sprocket. The nose sprocket is what really drives the kickback. I don't think I have ever experienced kickback with a carving bar honestly...dosent mean it can't happen though!

    Hi
    I just started watching your videos, its amazing you can do this. I’m thinking about giving this a try, not sure, but I do whittle little projects Hillbillies, Gnomes, Bears and other cartoony things nothing to scale
    Where or how did you learn this?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +1

      I learned through fire 😂 aka bought the saw, grabbed a log, watched a video on UA-cam about Chainsaw safety and just went for it! This is a hobby that you can really only learn though practice! You can watch all the videos in the world but until you have a general understanding of how to use the chainsaw, those videos don’t mean all that much! Get yourself a cheap residential chainsaw if you don’t have one, for electric I use (CS1500) or for gas (MS170), and just go for it! You will learn pretty quickly how the different parts of the bar cut! If you already have some experience and enjoy whittling I’m sure you will really enjoy power carving!
      Oh and ALWAYS use safety gear! I swear those wood chips aim for the eyeballs 😂

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +1

      Everyone will tell you something different but I would recommend starting with a MS170, put a 12” arborist mini roller on it and just practice! If you have a saw at home just start with that, you don’t need anything fancy to learn the basics! I only used an 18” stock bar on an electric saw until just several months ago!

    Outstanding work! What tree species did you use for this bear?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому

      This specific chunk of wood was from a dead and fallen tree in my neighborhoods front yard, it had been dead for 2 years so no leaves/needles to help identify. But based on everything I have carved I’m pretty confident this was eastern white pine!
