Excellent video! My severe hip pain and inflammation was so bad that I was using a cane to walk! It was devastating and I actually talked to my doctor about future hip replacement surgery. Someone suggested that I try a gluten free diet for three weeks to see if I noticed an improvement. It's been 8 months now. I feel like a new person with a new lease on life! The severe pain and inflammation is GONE! I no longer need a cane to walk! To me, gluten is a toxin! Thank you, for sharing this message with your vast audience! Love your channel!
@@tammy707 It's not as hard as some people think. I buy gluten free flour, and find Udi's gluten free bread and hamburger buns to be the best! At least so far, as I've tried many brands of bread, that taste so bad, that I throw them out! Just give it 3 weeks and see it you notice a difference! Good luck!
My husband has Crohn’s Disease, and just by chance, when he was reading a book on Crohn’s, it said that up to 30% of Crohn’s patients may have a wheat allergy. Since he wasn’t doing very well, and was thinking it wasn’t Crohn’s related, he decided to go gluten free, just out of curiosity. Within less than a week he was feeling better. He had always had a rash across his back, that we thought was due to sensitive skin, and that completely cleared up. Later found out it was a rash caused by gluten. Maybe this info will help someone else with Crohn’s. It doesn’t hurt to try for a short time, and especially if you have Crohn’s and a skin rash.
There was a study done on IBS patients that found that placebos can improve symptoms even if the patient knows they’re getting a placebo. The placebo effect is so fascinating and needs to be studied more extensively.

Girl it’s really something, the placebo effect …. I have tried so many things as eye creams and they all itch or irritate. I once got a squaline eye cream because Dr. shah recommended it. Itch. :( so I emptied the tiny container and put some thick eucerin body cream in it and use it under my eyes every day. No itch. Vaseline on top of that at night. And I know it’s not eye cream but it satisfies a need. Yes I’ve lost my mind.
My 11 year old daughter began experiencing daily abdominal pain, diarrhea and intermittent vomiting. The symptoms initially were mild but became very uncomfortable that it affected her daily life and mental health. I noticed the months leading up to this that her once thick hair was thinning alot, she was lethargic and complained of poor concentration. I decided to take her off gluten and almost immediately she felt better. She no longer experienced abdo pain and her symptoms improved. Her family physician referred her to a pediatric GI specialist but the appointment was not for a couple of months. By the time we saw the specialist he said that she would need to restart gluten for at least 8 weeks to check for sensitivity in bloodwork. I didn't want to do that because she was at a point of feeling well again and able to focus on her school work. We will look into getting a formal diagnosis when she is older. That being said, eliminating gluten has made a significant improvement in her well being. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Yes. It is the same for me. But I am in the middle of pinpointing the exact issue, myself. If eliminating it solves the problems for her, just go with it. Getting a diagnosis is truly a grueling and sometimes invasive process, depending on what the doctor wants to check. I would just say don’t put her through it unless it’s necessary to.
My sister diagnosed with celiac disease 20 years ago, she suffered same symptoms. Thankfully she recovered when she stopped eating gluten but it took time.
@@lindsey.eldritch Exactly! I did a 30 day elimination of all the basic allergens in 2008. When I added gluten back in I had significant GI symptoms and a flare of my rosecea. I didn't have insurance so I just stopped eating gluten. After 14 years gluten free my new doctor wanted me to test for celiac but didn't even inform me that you had to go back on gluten for 6-8 weeks before testing. So of course my test was negative. I also got my partner off of gluten because he had migraines 3x a week when I met him. He went off gluten and has had maybe 5 migraines in the past several years! I think a lot of people probably have low sensitivity with symptoms but they are used to their symptoms, so they don't know that going off gluten would help.
My daughter used to get horrible migraine headaches, at least 3 a month. They were so bad that she ended up in the hospital with them. This went on for about 7 years. Nothing helped her... until she went gluten free. After the first couple of months of going gluten free, her headaches were gone. She hasn't had one migraine in the last 20 years since going gluten free.
I was on a (almost) gluten-free and dairy-free diet for 3 months and my skin was ✨ glowing ✨. Legit to the extent that I needed no highlighter. I was put on this diet by my dietician for my acne, thyroid, mild PCOS and insulin-resistance issues. Along with the diet, I also exercised at least 30 minutes each day. Now it's over and I find it so hard to cut gluten, being north Indian. I'll have to be more dedicated but I'll sure stay gluten-restricted for life now. It helped with all the issues and the acne literally STOPPED.
Hi Taiyaba - I am suffering from severe PcOS symptoms too but my dietician insists that gluten and dairy has no negative impact. Can u share more info or your dietician s contact?
@@shivpreetdeol9577 modern gluten, dairy & processed foods cause leaky guts or porosity which leads to overall inflammation in the body... there are plenty of research papers on these topics online if it can help
@@maha.b1 thank you! The issue is I find research both supporting and debunking dairy gluten connection and its confusing. I think I need to listen to my body. Gluten def kills my energy levels
Western medicine tends to ignore gluten sensitivity, some doctors get it and some don't. There is a test for gluten sensitivity but it's hard to come by because a lot of doctors only accept celiac disease and they think the rest of us are just followimg a trend. I know I have digestive issues on gluten.
@@shivpreetdeol9577 i can only speak from my experience but my dietician absolutely hates gluten and dairy (except A2 cow ghee and A2 butter) for PCOS and thyroid. I kid you not when i say eliminating gluten had such a positive impact on my skin, immunity and mind. Even scars seem to fade quickly. I'm definitely going to go gluten-free again.
I have both celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis! Can confirm that it is soooooo itchy, when it first started happening I thought it was poison ivy! Trying to find relief was actually how I found your channel; it helped me to properly bring up my symptoms to my dermatologist and get a diagnosis. Thankfully my rash went away about 6 months after going on a GF diet. Thanks for providing so much information to your viewers, we definitely appreciate it!
@@gensies I keep dairy because I need the calcium for osteopenia but since giving up flour, sugar and grains, my skin is so much better that I don’t feel like I need to let go of dairy at this time. My bone health is a priority for me right now. Thanks for your comment! Have a wonderful day!
I'm low gluten, rather than gluten-free, as seems to help my atopic dermatitis, and I have less gas. About 10 years ago I wasn't sensitive wheat or gluten at all, but I was sensitive to dairy, however my dairy sensitivity went away and then the gluten sensitivity developed. Allergies are sometimes not lifelong and come and go like all other disease.
I have Hashimotos so my dr told me I need to be Gluten Free. During a f/u appointment she asked if I was GF, I told her I was Gluten light..she replied, “it’s like being pregnant, you either are or you aren’t”. Lol I’m still Gluten light. 🤷🏻♀️
@@robinr5561 I’m gluten light too! That’s a weird comparison from your doctor lol. Less gluten= less symptoms, and for me it’s worth having a little gluten here and there to enjoy life, but for the most part I try to stay away.
I have no allergy to gluten, no issues eating it, but I find if I eat a grain-free / sugar free diet I get almost zero breakouts at all. Whenever I start eating grains / sugar again I break out literally within hours, with large pimples, usually on my face or shoulders. I don't know why it happens but all I know is it is the best thing that I've ever done for my skin to stop acne, literally. No anti acne product did it for me, just stopping grains and sugar. I am also not diabetic so I don't have crazy blood sugar spikes or anything like that.
Was there an area of your face that you saw most of your breakouts? I’m getting gluten tested rn but I have very persistent breakouts on my chin/around my mouth no matter what skincare I do so I was just curious.
I’m a diagnosed celiac and my dr said to avoid gluten even in skin products, hair care even toilet paper. I won’t touch anything with gluten in it, body cream or a food dish. I did notice a difference in my skin when I stopped using products with gluten in them. I’m very thankful for gluten free labels lol.
@sweet_pie461 theres also a small chance that the cosmetic products containing gluten might end up on or in your mouth by accident so it totally makes sense for celiacs to avoid all gluten, even in personal hygiene products. I hope you're doing well with your condition. Would like to get tested myself.
This video is packed with information! I went off gluten 7 years ago, mostly for stomach issues and just feeling awful. What was crazy was that I got unexpected relief for other issues, more so than did my gut. I did have less bloating and diarrhea, but the surprise was migraines, balance problems and horrible fatigue gone after about 5 months. My fatigue had been off the charts - I remember not being able to use my hairdryer because my arm would get so tired! I also stopped getting itchy, puffy blisters on my fingers and inside my mouth. People noticed a big change and always asked me about it. Pre gluten free I had also gained a lot of weight very quickly which was unusual, as I have been super lean my whole life. When I gave up gluten the weight fell off really fast, however I always tell people that I think it was because of the inflammation the gluten was causing. I do NOT think gf will help anyone feel better or lose weight if they don't have an issue and I am glad Dr. Dray addressed this.I have subsequently found out that I carry one of the celiac's genes but I can't get an accurate diagnosis since I refuse to go back on gluten. I have other autoimmune disorders, so for anyone like that I think it would be worth a try, but not for your basic healthy person.
Love this! I have psoriasis and Celiac disease - this was the most comprehensive video I've seen on how gluten affects the skin (and gut) as it relates to both of these autoimmune conditions. When I eliminated gluten from my diet a few years ago, it did wonders for my psoriasis. My patches were less red, less itchy, and some spots even healed. Thanks for all you do, Dr. Dray!
*I'll never get tired saying thank you for your educational vlogs Dr. Dray, from foods to skincare, and explaining various products contents, has been a big reason for us to become a smart consumer. I have so much respect on how you talk in details such as SLS, parabens, sunscreen a lot of myths that has cause by marketing strategies which brought bad reputations for those ingredients. Especially like me who have sensitive skin, information about gluten and stuff is very helpful for understanding every single things I put to my body with proper scientific explaination you have* *In a world full of beauty influencers, there's always Dr. Dray to count on.* ✨
I have been diagnosed with coeliac disease for 10 years and have seen a lot of "expert" gastrointestinal consultants and dieticians however no one has ever spelt out what it is and what actually happens as clearly as you just have! Thank you!
Dr Dray I follow your channel for almost 3 years. I‘m so thankful for all your helpful information on skincare. I know male skin care doesn‘t need any special/other products but I would appreciate a video for skincare with beards!! Please this would be so great!!
I have Celiac Disease. I also have something called silent Celiac. I had general symptoms like fatigue, sleep issues low iron. But I was never sick. It was found when I was 36 from a medical history taken by my GI dr for my gall bladder. My grandmother on my mom’s side had stomach lymphoma, she was about 64 when she got it. They removed part of her stomach and she was fine. But apparently they now know stomach lymphomas can be caused by Celiac. So I had an endoscopy and voila Celiac. My grandmother was never sick besides her stomach cancer, and my mom never felt ill and wouldn’t get tested for a year after my diagnosis because she felt fine. But Celiac is genetic and she was the link between my grandmother and I! She finally got tested and yup, Celiac. My aunt on my father’s side has Celiac as well, and she was sick for years before they found it. Turns out different Celiac genres present differently. I got generic testing and I only have one gene copy. It’s been a tough road, but I’ve learned so much since my diagnosis in 2012. I am very happy that my son doesn’t have it. I finally got him genetically tested and he doesn’t have the gene. So he can’t get it, and he won’t pass it on. I’m so thankful for that!🙏 And it’s definitely not the worse thing in the world. It seems it at first, but there are so many worse things to have. And no medication! It is life altering, but imagine how great it would be if we could treat other diseases just with diet change. Gotta look on the bright side!
@@green1eyed1leopardes I think it is. A lot of people don’t want to know, but then some people really don’t suspect it. The problem is if it’s untreated not only can it lead to cancer, but heart issues and Alzheimer’s as well. Due to the chronic inflammation in the body.
I have coeliac disease and my mum has soo many auto immune diseases but will not have a biopsy. My blood results never showed it so it took a long time for me to be diagnosed apparently about 5% of coeliacs don't show antibodies in the blood tests. I think my mum has it but she won't listen 😠 like you said its not the worst thing to have. 10 years on and I don't feel I really miss out it's just sometimes tricky.
Thank you Dr. Dray for speaking about dermatitis herpetiformis! I am a DH Patient myself and find it hard to explain to people why I can not eat gluten, not even a little bit. So many people see Gluten free diets as a choice and not as an result because of medical conditions. Coming from a Doctor my friends and family are more likely to take this serious.
I am so glad it was my Doc who suggested this so I can tell people "because my doctor told me too and not just because I am "picky". What I wouldn't do for a slice of real Italian bread again!!! Yet people think I do it "because I want to"
As a celiac when I went off of gluten a lot of medical issues cleared up for me. One that I was not expecting was that the kp of the back of my arms started to clear up. It didn’t go away fully, but it’s not as bad at it was before I got my dx
Love that you mentioned that eating gluten free =/= eating a healthy diet. I have celiacs and I find it really irritating when people respond to me saying that by going "oh, you must eat really healthy then?". No, actually, I eat like crap because I'm a broke college student. I'm also the healthiest I've ever been because my intestines aren't literally falling apart for once in my life. That doesn't mean that eating mostly frozen zucchini muffins is *healthy* though.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s about 9 years ago, my doctor told me I should go gluten free, I didn’t take her advice until I started feeling terrible and she suggested it again, she said give it three months and see how you feel. At first it was so hard, I love bread but oh my God, I felt amazing. Over the years since I’ve gone off and on the gluten free wagon until about two years ago when my autoimmune disease progressed, I’m strictly gluten free except maybe once every three months or so I’ll have one treat that’s not gluten free and I do okay. The main side effects for me when consuming gluten is inflammation, rash in certain areas and dizziness. I’m so glad you did this video, it’s very interesting. And, I miss bread, crispy warm French bread with butter😉 I have to add, you’re so right Dr Dray, a gluten free diet doesn’t equate to a healthy diet. It’s best to stick with naturally gluten free foods, not prepackaged gf products.
Yes, I have an autoimmune disease and feel so much better without gluten. Easy for me, I don’t like bread so I don’t miss it. But I’m sure gluten is in many foods hiding. Lol I agree about the inflammation and I seem to be better without gluten.
I have 3 coeliac siblings but don’t have it myself. I was recently diagnosed with hashimotos hypothyroidism and in order to reduce antibodies attacking my thyroid I’ve cut out gluten. (I was already dairy-free). I’ve noticed almost right after cutting gluten fully out that my skin rashes behind my ears, on my torso and legs have improved so much - almost gone. I’m only 3 weeks in, but so far it has been a game changer.
I'm gluten sensitive. Giving up gluten got rid of my brain fog, reduced bloating and gave me more energy. I also get ill much less often. I didn't notice any difference with my skin but I'm fortunate that my only concern is it's on the dryer side and tbh compared to what some people go through that is barely a problem.
There’s no scientific evidence that gluten sensitivity exists outside of patients with celiac your assuming your gluten sensitive & jumping on the bandwagon it’s most likely something else in the products containing gluten.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I have the second condition and a lot of people will argue against my condition because I don't have full-blown celiac disease or I don't have a proper diagnosis from a doctor. But when I changed my diet and it was solely on the purpose of bettering myself I noticed specifically certain kinds of skin conditions and welfare conditions that I know have affected me from a young age. This video did a great job covering all of the points and more importantly validates a lot of people's situations.
I know so many people who will not ingest gluten or even touch it. I honestly don’t know what I would do without gluten. I not only love bread but I make (and LOVE) seitan. Thank you so much for all this information. I’m pretty sure that, at least at the moment, I don’t have any sensitivities to gluten, thankfully!
I was Dx with Celiac Diasease and subsequently went GF 21 yrs ago. It was a tough transition during the first 6-8 months. Now...it's a walk-in-the-park by comparison! For me, GF pairs beautifully with Keto and/or low-carb lifestyles as well. Low-carb lifestyles equate to reduced metabolic syndrome in the general population. Lower rates of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, certain types of kidney disease, retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy and more. Dr. Dray could elaborate on these. Wait, I forgot to mention that I now ingest fewer herbicides, pesticides, and arsenic than the average American. Big pluses to me too! Do I miss bread? Seldom! Do I live well without it? You bet I do!
@@annewest-ellmers1807 I believe people can adjust to different things with motivation and commitment. I’m glad you’re living a healthy life without gluten 😊
I avoid gluten because I have a rare allergy (among others) called exercise-induced anaphylaxis, where I go into anaphylactic shock if I eat gluten protein and then work out afterward. Hard to explain to people I have a gluten-related allergy, not Celiacs. Thanks for talking about this!
The Cleveland Clinic recommended that my daughter-in-law remove gluten when she was diagnosed with MS. It's been nearly 8 years without gluten and has had no further symptoms. Have you looked into gluten and those with MS?
I have celiac disease, and generally avoid touching gluten, just because if I have gluten on my hands and then go eat something, it could theoretically be triggering. I never had any typical symptoms of CD, and was only diagnosed bc I kept choking on food. So then I trained my dog to alert me to the scent of gluten. (I work with a professional trainer who is an expert)
great video :) My partner has celiacs and we do avoid gluten in cosmetics as well in case product residue finds its way into food. I haven't noticed any difference in my health when I do and don't eat gluten, if anything the gluten-free versions are usually more dense and difficult to digest!
For years, I thought gluten and dairy were behind my frequent gastrointestinal discomfort. I tried all types of elimination and substitution of these products and cutting back did help a little. Four years ago, I took it a step further and eliminated meat. It’s been the biggest positive change in my overall well-being (including my skin) in my 58 years!l
So excited to hear you talk so extensively about DH! Went to see a dermatologist about a crazy rash I was having and she immediately diagnosed me with DH. (We did some biopsies to be sure.) I've been GF for 7 years. Thank you for helping to spread awareness!
I find it interesting.....when glyphosate is never mentioned in relation to gluten. The pesticide itself is inflammatory and problematic. Imo some people are just better at dealing with the inflammation from it vs others. The ancient wheat our ancestors consumed is no longer in existence today. Thanks MONSANTO!
Thank you so much for covering the placebo and no-cebo effect. I have been learning about this and how much the skin and nervous system are related and how that impacts skin. There is a great book called The expectation effect in the book there are many studies cited about how our perception or expectation can upregulate or down regulate systems in the body and do much more! It's so amazing to learn about.
A very good friend of mine never wanted to be ‘one of those people ‘ until she discovered that the reason she needed 2 hip replacements in her late 40’s despite being massively health was because her crohns had water away her hip joints with no other symptoms So she has now given up gluten and is managing the autoimmune disease through diet but OMG seriously worth getting checked
I went off gluten about 10 years ago, as a way to test a possible solution for my digestive problems. I improved significantly. Some people did think it was "in my head", but the day I pigged out on my wheat-free colleague's banana bread made with kamut flour, I proved them wrong. I totally thought the bread was gluten-free, because my colleague was wheat-free. I was so sick the next day, unable to understand why, until it occurred to me to google kamut. Another time I got sick after a sushi dinner... I didn't know that soy sauce has wheat. Another thing is that I noticed that organic or artisan wheat breads didn't affect me as much. This led me to believe that the culprit may not be gluten per se, but industrial gluten products. Something to think about... Now, a decade later, I am feeling unwell again, though not exactly the same way. So, gluten-free may be a good decision, but not necessarily the panacea.
I have been suffering from hives off and on and I had blood work that said I had celiacs but negative biopsy on endoscopy. I saw an allergist and I was negative for wheat and other foods. I broke out in hives over the thanksgiving holiday bad and all the meds I took really didn't stop the hives. I am on day 6 gluten free and I only have one small hive on my back. I am gonna make and appointment with Derma Doc soon and what she thinks.
Hi Dr. Dray, thank you so much for so much information. I just had a baby who is 5months old now and has really bad eczema. Can you please do a video on eczema cream, lotion, oil, shower usage, etc. I have tried a lot of different cream and everything but her cheeks keep flaring up no matter what I used. I am desperate and don't know what to do. Thanks for all your other informational videos. XOXOXO
My mom used to be able to eat gluten without problems. Around her 30s, she started having skin bumps that looked like buggies (edit: bug bites, not buggies) , they would appear all over her back, and a few would pop up on her neck and face. She thought it was because we live in florida and there are a lot of mosquitos. She was so itchy all the time, it was really hard for her. She went to dermatologists and they treated it like it was a skin infection (prescribing antibiotics). She was told she had fatty liver and high levels of inflammation markers in her blood. They said it was probably because of her weight. She even went to an allergy doctor but celiac was ruled out because she didn't have abdominal pain and digestive symptoms. She did an elimination diet and found out it was gluten! She has NO MORE ITCHY BUMPS after so many years of suffering. She still has scars all over from what she went through. Something else interesting: people with gluten sensitivity also commonly have a reaction to iodine, so when her doctor realized it was celiac, he also told her to avoid table salt and mostly have sea salt. Seeing what she went through makes me not want to eat gluten, even though I don't have an allergy at the moment. You can develop an allergy at any age, like she did.

This was very interesting and helpful too. My sister was just diagnosed with celiac disease. It will be interesting to see what benefits she will experience by eliminating gluten. Thanks so much, Dr Dray! You are helping so many people. I hope you have a relaxing evening. You deserve it! 💕
Gluten issues can be tough to figure especially when it is with elimination diets. One can go decades or most their lives without knowing it. The worse part is when you finally figure it out most of the people in your life will be like "you always ate it before now why can't you?" I grew up with an Italian mother, grandmother, aunts and uncles who were the cooks of the family, so growing up about 70 percent of my diet was wheat/gluten products. In my 20s I noticed I was having digestive issues and worsening head aces which slowly progressed until my mid 30s. It was so bad I couldn't keep anything down and at last once a week I had a head so bad I was crawling into the bathroom to puke. Once everything was out of my system and didn't eat for a day my body slowly would recover and I would eat for a few days and then it started all over again. Keep in mind I was always very under weight not matter what I ate so this was terrifying. My Doctor told me to try gluten free and low an behold this lessened my digestive issues by 90 percent and my head ache issues about 70 percent (it is a battle I am still fighting). Now if I eat gluten my body reacts like I have food poisoning. Mind you I didn't want to believe her. I thought she was crazy! I am like "how can I keep weight on without my main carb source". Well she was right so I had to up my potato and rice in take lol. PS. I get annoyed with the demonetization of wheat and gluten about as much as I get annoyed at the dismissive nature some people have about those of us with actual gluten issues. I blame those who use it as a fade diet thinking a gluten free cookie is healthier then a regular one. No you idiot a cookie is still a cookie no mater the type of flour you use.
My partner had those kind of headaches when I met him. He was moaning in pain and throwing up 3 days a week!. I had already been GF for years and I suggested he try. Lo and behold virtually no headaches for the last 5 years off gluten. I don't care what silly people have to say. We are staying gluten free whether they think it's real or not.
I have small pimples on the knees, elbows, scalp, buttocks, back, and sometimes the face. These pimples are red and very itchy, then after a while they harden and become white tending to a silvery color in the form of crusts. Then the disease soon heals and returns again. I have been in this condition since the age of 7. I saw the doctors. It did not help and I left it (I lived with the disease and skin pimples) for many years. Then a month ago I went to a doctor who ran some blood tests on me and then it turned out that I did not have a wheat allergy. The doctor gave me Dapsone and told me not to eat food that contains gluten. Then after a week the disease (pimples) disappeared. ). Does this mean I have celiac disease as mentioned in the video? What information in this golden video! Thank you
I do appreciate this health series you are presenting. Your content has allowed me to have more educated questions when I do go to a physical doctors appt. Thank you! 🙏
I have a gluten intolerance with the rash you were talking about. I was told by my doctor to do an elimination diet due to having severe inflammation issues. When I cut it out, it was an immediate shift for the better in so many health issues I was having. I wish I could eat it, I freaking miss bread and just going to get Italian food and not having the limitations. Celiac runs in my family, however, I do not have the severity of symptoms. I wasn't aware that you didn't have to avoid gluten free products such as skincare bc it needed to be ingested, which makes that simpler, but I'll have to look more into it. Ty for the video and the information!
That was one thing I did disagreed with her on. In particular I have a reaction to shampoos and conditioners that include any wheat gluten. Terrible itching on my scalp. I would be cautious applying topical products with gluten. I have a gluten sensitivity (not just wheat gluten) for sure that is hereditary.
@@lindajoy8893 everyone I know that's Celiac absolutely cannot use products with gluten and they have reactions to things like soap, so I will continue to avoid it just to be on the safe side.
I feel like the reason people associate gluten free with being "healthy" is because years ago when it was first a trend it actually was a way to eat healthy. Hear me out on this. I have memories in my teens of people losing weight or having great skin and giving all the credit to going gluten free, 10-15 years ago that was different than it is today. Back then if you went gluten free you basically were just cooking whole/non processed foods at home(which is always healthier in my humble opinion). Nowadays when you do a gluten free diet you've got gobs of processed food to pick from, you can be "gluten free" and eating oreos and pretzels and Dino nuggets and be wondering why you haven't lost weight/skin hasn't cleared up/whatever goal you thought gluten was causing
My ear infections that I was having for half a year went away and my eyelid eczema went away also. I was was really sad that gluten was the culprit because I love French bread.
"Gluten is often present in beer and soy sauce, and can be used as a stabilizing agent in more unexpected food products, such as ice cream and ketchup. Foods of this kind may therefore present problems for a small number of consumers because the hidden gluten constitutes a hazard for people with coeliac disease and gluten sensitivities. " So yeah, it's basically hidden everywhere so those saying not eating grains helped with acnee...oops
I read a report by the original researcher who claimed to have made the original link between gluten and non celiac claims. It more or less exploded into the current paranoia over gluten. He later recanted his initial claim and decided it wasn’t gluten, but saccharides that created the symptoms. I think the lesson is perhaps there needs to be more specific studies on the possible effects of things in bread/grain items besides gluten that may be causing issues. Granted, it would be harder for big food companies to market ‘no saccharides’ as opposed to demonizing something like gluten.
@@roblovegreen books by doctors, if they lack credible research and peer review, not the usual ‘ I read the book and I like it’ comment on the book flap, are not always the best source of information as they tend to be biased opinion.
I don't know anyone who is demonizing gluten. And there might be connections to other ingredients in our foods that cause problems as well. Thing is many of us are suffering and don't have access to testing or specialists because our healthcare system is so terrible. So we just have to self experiment. Sorry if that bothers you.
Do you have a stance on IgG tests for food sensitivities? I had such tests done recently and my results for transglutaminase-6 were out of range, but I’m conflicted on how much or what to make of these results.
I have eczema and i really want to try a gluten free diet. But being a seventeen year old girl who lives with her asian parents, It's IMPOSSIBLE to quit gluten
I reluctantly tried gluten free to help with gut issues, fatigue and concentration but not before I tried reducing processed dfoods and upping my greens and had testing. I think gluten avoidance does help as I have obvious bloating and sleepiness after consumption but Its not something people should do just because they heard gluten was 'bad for you' - I mean, for most it's not is it? I think we need it, don't we? I hate the marketing, it's the same when you're vegan, too. They peddle 'gluten free and vegan' on stuff that's still essentially junk and charge double and it does my head in 😆
I forgot about the sleepiness! I cut out gluten- you've made me flashback to going back to work after a sandwich at lunch and it making me brain fogged and drowsy
Greetings Dr. Dray hope u r well n 🖐Hello Every1 n Happy Wednesday😀n what a Wonderful Vid…. thanks n This is Gonna B so Helpful🔥👍n Continued Blessings to All💜….
Can you tell me what skin care products products that are gluten free. I use Cerave and it may contain gluten. I have HP and and was put on Dapsone but did not agree and had to stop. Please help.I’ve been trying to replace shampoos and cosmetics. I can’t seem to find a body lotion. Thank you.
I don’t have any known medical issues related to gluten but I do know if my diet is too high with gluten I have a lot of IBS like issues. Like anything moderation is key.
Non celiac sensitive gluten, is something I've experienced, I used to feel extremely fatigued when I consumed gluten and it wouldn't go away with exercise, coffee etc, it stopped when I eliminated gluten for few years, I dont have the same affect with gluten now, but I still don't eat it regularly.
I’m not Celiac but I do have an allergy to wheat. Going gluten free was very hard at first because I would just eat what I want to eat. I did have an illness 2011. Went gluten free for 12 years already.
Thank you so much . Do people who suffer from dermatographia benefit from eliminating gluten ? It has been driving me crazy . I might add gluten removal to see if it helps with this irritating skin condition
Yup. Nailed it. Lived through it. So nice to see a real dermatologist spitting facts as opposed to these other dinosaurs swearing by outdated, problematic steroidal pharma creams for a commission. Kudos!
Hi dr dray! Thank you so much for all The information ☺️ Can you do a video with gluten-free Skincare products that you recommend? That would be very interesting and helpful ❤️
I think one easy way to tell the difference between a celiac sprue patient and a gluten sensitive patient is that with Sprue symptoms continue to get worse. In my case I started with some diarrhea. That progressed to cramping which led to bloating. Then I had awful gas which then led to a type of diarrhea few ever see. It’s unique because you stop digesting fats. The stool is frothy and bubbly. Finally I had significant weight loss followed by stool that was no longer controllable. Literally I pooped in my sleep and walking around a store. Liquid stool just came out. Following a gluten free diet if I slip up and am exposed to gluten I will develop diarrhea however as soon as I stop the exposure my stool returns to normal. Does that make sense? It’s a sharp incline of symptoms that doesn’t let up until gluten is discontinued. I was 27 or 28 when I was diagnosed. I’ve not talked to someone with gluten sensitivity but I really see the two as different. Celiac patients are way more likely to develop small bowel cancer even when they follow the diet. My final straw was when my bowel was uncontrollable. I was convinced I had cancer. Discovered I had Celiac and my life completely changed. I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning since gluten can be a hidden ingredient. Nowadays most products are marked. Generally if something doesn’t carry a gluten free label I won’t eat it. There’re a few items that are still difficult to confirm they’re gluten free. For example capers.
That's interesting. I have bad psoriasis and recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I've never considered cutting out gluten but maybe I should give that a try before I start methotrexate.
@@popsey87 It’s honestly worth a try and I hope it works for you! I as well have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and they really pushed the drugs. However I have a nursing background and thought otherwise… (they were so aggressive with the methotrexate that it literally showed up at my door 😑). I hope it works for you.

This is a message for the people who modify their diet and experiment skin improvement: *YOU CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW BLESSED YOU ARE* 🙏🏻 I suffered severe cystic acne for 15 years and *nothing* made any difference. So frustrating🤦🏻♀️ Finally, isotretinoine cleared my skin and "thanks" to acne (and to my mom, of course🖤) I got used to eat naturally healthy without effort and met Saint Treti. I was prescribed for lichen planus and rosacea and hormonal imbalance and was told there’s no treatment for my condition. 💔 O the ignorant medical help I have had which cause me so much sadness and isolation.
Everytime I eat bread or wheat foods nowadays, I get dermatitis on my scalp. It disappears in a week or 2 after cutting off bread immediately and using antifungals and properly exfoliating my scalp. I keep telling my doctor's about how it disappears with food but they don't suggest celiac or gluten antibodies screening. They try to throw steroids at me and say they don't have a way to test wheat intolerance... I'm not sure if they think I'm stupid or that I'm one of the people who suddenly think gluten is the cause of all their problems due to recent marketing.
It's infuriating going to modern mainstream doctors. When I went to naturapaths they had no problem ordering appropriate testing for me. There are a lot of tests mainstream allopathic doctors don't know about or order.

Amazing!! A big thank you to the person suggesting that. I should try it!!
@@tammy707 It's not as hard as some people think. I buy gluten free flour, and find Udi's gluten free bread and hamburger buns to be the best!
Rashes are often psychosomatic. Reducing stress in one’s life with reckless abandon worked for me.
Is it possible he has Crohn's and celiac? Many celiacs get dermatitis herpetaformis, a rash on the skin.
@@thoughtfulpro371 To an extent, yes, but no amount of meditation can get rid of a DH rash. Trust me... I tried. "Dapsone or go home" for me...

I didn't want to do that because she was at a point of feeling well again and able to focus
on her school work.
Yes, Exactly what you are saying.
Yes. Absolutely. So much cleared up when I went gluten free. I can’t have dairy now either.
When I was gluten free, my keratosis pilaris improved dramatically.
This happened with my partner also. Really bad migraines several times a week.
Now GF=no migraine.
Also suffering with migraines sometimes..
Have a similar experience, massive, uncontrollable migraines (among other effects). Once I went gf it went away...
Gluten is a migraine trigger for me too. I felt way better after just 2 days of cutting it out.

Western medicine tends to ignore gluten sensitivity, some doctors get it and some don't. My rosacea skin thrives on a gluten free diet. No grains, No sugar No flour, and my skin looks so much better! 💖
Same here ☝️
Have you also eliminated dairy?
@@gensies I keep dairy because I need the calcium for osteopenia but since giving up flour, sugar and grains, my skin is so much better that I don’t feel like I need to let go of dairy at this time. My bone health is a priority for me right now. Thanks for your comment! Have a wonderful day!
Hi, can you please explain why no grains?
Yes going GF got my ibs under control and my rosacea hasn't flared for a while now.
Lol
I’m still Gluten light.
The glue on envelopes often has gluten!
Dray!

Hearing these stories makes me think this is more common then people realize.

Thank you Dr. Dray. Every time I have gluten I feel yucky in general. I also notice my face being puffy and inflamed. Just not worth it for me.
Real
And, I miss bread, crispy warm French bread with butter😉
I have to add, you’re so right Dr Dray, a gluten free diet doesn’t equate to a healthy diet. It’s best to stick with
naturally gluten free foods, not prepackaged gf products.
Yes, I have an autoimmune disease and feel so much better without gluten. Easy for me, I don’t like bread so I don’t miss it. But I’m sure gluten is in many foods hiding. Lol I agree about the inflammation and I seem to be better without gluten.
I have gluten-sensitivity, and it damages my hair follicles, and causes bloating in my stomach. I was diagnosed 12 years ago. 😢
I am facing the same problem please tell me what should I do

Possibly the most thoroughly objective video i've seen on youtube, on any subject, *ever.* Thank you, Dr Dray.

Have you looked into gluten and those with MS?
my seborrheic dermatitis cleared up when i went vegan and cut off gluten from my diet

Hope you’re having a wonderful day ☀️
You too
Great theme! Happy Wednesday Dr Dray
Thank you! You too!
Dr. Dray what oil cleanser are you currently using?
XOXOXO
Comes from the inside, creams won’t solve the actual problem.
Happy Wednesday, Dr. Dray 🤍😊🌸🎀
Happy Wednesday
Greetings Maricel Gundayao hope u r well n Happy Wednesday😀👍💜….
@@whitneybrown4067 Hello 👋
Hey love the vid. Can you do a video about sweaty hands please!! Thank you
See my video on excessive sweating
Could you please review the new L’Oréal Midnight Serum? It’s gotten rave reviews online, I would love to see if it’s worth the hype.
Dr Dray, I NEEDED THIS TODAY! Just got back from another specialist and u reminded me POSITIVITY IS NECESSARY!! i wish I could share my story w U incase u had any brainstorms as u USUALLY DO!! 🙏🙏❤❤ps in FL and 4 drs cant help my weakness after countless procedures etc
Dr, what is your opinion on at home food sensitivity tests? My husband did Everlywell's, and it told him a long list of avoidance foods, from a fingers tick. He seems happy with it.
Adooooooring this video style. Makes me feel I am at the uni again and yes, I take notes☺️📝 Thank you for talking about _no-cebo_ and telling we shouldn' t be ashamed 🙏🏻🙌🏻 🧛🏻♀️🖤
thanks!
This was very interesting and helpful too. My sister was just diagnosed with celiac disease. It will be interesting to see what benefits she will experience by eliminating gluten. Thanks so much, Dr Dray! You are helping so many people. I hope you have a relaxing evening. You deserve it! 💕
thanks for watching
Update please.
Well, turns out she was misdiagnosed and did not have to go gluten free. She wasn't off gluten long enough to see a difference.
Gluten issues can be tough to figure especially when it is with elimination diets. One can go decades or most their lives without knowing it. The worse part is when you finally figure it out most of the people in your life will be like "you always ate it before now why can't you?"
I grew up with an Italian mother, grandmother, aunts and uncles who were the cooks of the family, so growing up about 70 percent of my diet was wheat/gluten products.
@@lindajoy8893 everyone I know that's Celiac absolutely cannot use products with gluten and they have reactions to things like soap, so I will continue to avoid it just to be on the safe side.
blue-tiful day! 💙😊
Happy Wednesday
Gluten causes joint pain and bloating for me; I’ve been feeling great as long as I avoid gluten.
Dr Dray PLEASE do a video where you recommend the best under eye gel patches (under eye silicon masks etc etc) !!!
My ear infections that I was having for half a year went away and my eyelid eczema went away also. I was was really sad that gluten was the culprit because I love French bread.
Have a great Wednesday guys
Happy Wednesday!
Could you do a review on skin better science products, I’d love your thoughts on it.
Benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar for skin. Pls make a video on this on. Pls pls pls
You are way behind in regards to the gluten sensitivity thing. Read the book “Wheat Belly” by Dr William Davis.
You answered my problem Ty much love !
Do you have a stance on IgG tests for food sensitivities? I had such tests done recently and my results for transglutaminase-6 were out of range, but I’m conflicted on how much or what to make of these results.
the wheat in the U.S. is often dried with glyphosate, Round UP, after harvest to speed up getting product to market.
Happy Wednesday 💕

Can you tell me what skin care products products that are gluten free. I use Cerave and it may contain gluten. I have HP and and was put on Dapsone but did not agree and had to stop. Please help.I’ve been trying to replace shampoos and cosmetics. I can’t seem to find a body lotion. Thank you.
I meant DH
I don’t have any known medical issues related to gluten but I do know if my diet is too high with gluten I have a lot of IBS like issues. Like anything moderation is key.
Non celiac sensitive gluten, is something I've experienced, I used to feel extremely fatigued when I consumed gluten and it wouldn't go away with exercise, coffee etc, it stopped when I eliminated gluten for few years, I dont have the same affect with gluten now, but I still don't eat it regularly.
Happy Wednesday from Colorado! Hope all is well :)
Same to you!
Kudos!
Thank you very much, i haven't seen anyone explain this issue in a better way ❤️
I request vitamin K and skin please
My psoriasis is worse on gluten. Went off gluten… it’s gone after 50 years.
However I have a nursing background and thought otherwise…
(they were so aggressive with the methotrexate that it literally showed up at my door 😑).
I hope it works for you.
For those looking for amazing gluten free recipes, look up the channel “Let them eat gluten free cake” she has designed the most PERFECT gluten free flour blend. I made her GF artisan bread tonight and was blown away. My family devoured it and had no idea it was GF. She has so many good recipes, and it makes you feel like you’re not missing out!
Thank you for this information
This is a message for the people who modify their diet and experiment skin improvement: *YOU CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW BLESSED YOU ARE* 🙏🏻 I suffered severe cystic acne for 15 years and *nothing* made any difference. So frustrating🤦🏻♀️ Finally, isotretinoine cleared my skin and "thanks" to acne (and to my mom, of course🖤) I got used to eat naturally healthy without effort and met Saint Treti. Sending energy and hope to everyone who is still on the struggle. Just follow Dr Dray' s advices and be conscious that every video is a treasure wich so many of us didn' t have when we were young 💪🏻✨ Endless gratitude from my past me, Andrea 🧛🏻♀️🖤🖤🖤👸🏻🧑🏼🦳🐕
I was prescribed for lichen planus and rosacea and hormonal imbalance and was told there’s no treatment for my condition. 💔
O the ignorant medical help I have had which cause me so much sadness and isolation.
I love videos like this of yours! Its so important to distinguish between fads and helpful information when it comes to what we ingest.
