She's so right. For my work, I document injuries and causes of death for the insurance and legal industries. I can tell you that most people ultimately die from bedsores. Whether it's cancer or diabetes or Alzheimers, it is a breakdown in the integrity of the skin that will get you in the end. People stop moving when they become ill. Those who have reasonably healthy skin can survive a period of bed rest without it leading to skin breakdown. But once your skin breaks down it's only a matter of time before infection sets in and becomes systemic. You develop sepsis, septic shock and multi-system organ failure.

Hi Dr, can you provide the best melatonin supplement that you think is the best, we go online and we see a million choice and I don’t know if they are all the same or not, also, what dose should a person take and how often per week?
I think it’s important to emphasize the distinction between TOPICAL melatonin and ingesting it. It’s really interesting to hear about the skin benefits that I didn’t know before. But just a word of caution to those who take it orally to please consult your doctor. Melatonin supplements are not regulated and often the dosage is way higher than what the body requires. Long term use could lead to changes to the brain and dependency.
I think she worded it weird. Melatonin does not directly increase the risk of or cause of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Infact, the only relationship that they have is that Melatonin is significantly lower in those who are diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases as such. And Too high of Melatonin dosage is infact the catalyst to further put those with such diagnoses at risk, simply because of the natural side effect which is the commonly known and anticipated onset drowsiness that lingers after waking, thus making day to day functionality a higher risk. It is the temporary impairment to essential decision making and delay in alertness that further puts those who suffer from neurodegenerative conditions at risk. For comparison, this is no different from refraining from driving while on meds. There are compelling arguments and some sound data that point towards the benefits of Melatonin.. but perhaps it is safer to take in significantly lower doses than what is normalized on the market.
My primary care doctor advised not using melatonin for sleep long term because it can lead to memory loss. A sleep specialist explained that the proper dose is one half milligram, taken at dinner time, so the level is built up at bedtime. She said it should not be anti-cholenergic at that dose.
Your primary care doctor probably read that from some article. Disappointing how other doctors don't do proper research. Makes the rest of us look bad. Many neuroscience studies and meta analyses already show that melatonin has no negative effect on memory.
It's important to "maintain function" inside and out. Plus, if our insides are functioning properly, our outsides will reflect that with good skin, healthy hair and nails. Thanks for the clear, comprehensive info Doc!
❤️This is great! ❣️I’ve been taking low dose melatonin intermittently since menopause onset, for sleep. And using lots of antioxidants for those great benefits you referenced. Recently I’ve been noticing it in skincare and was wondering why that is…now I know. I didn’t realize it’s an antioxidant…great info…once again, Dr Dray!
If you watched the actual video she advises against melatonin supplements as they can have long term harmful impacts like dementia. She is talking specifically about the benefits of topical melatonin

I take a low dose (3 mg.) of melatonin for sleep, recommended by my doctor. I've had insomnia my entire adult life. My doctor has me take my melatonin 1 hour before bed and Trazodone, an antidepressant, that acts like a sleeping pill, at bedtime. The melatonin helps me go to sleep and the sleeping pill keeps me asleep. It works for me. I used to take Ambien, but I would get up in the night and do things like bake cookies, clean my bathroom or rearrange everything in my kitchen cabinets. It was a sleeping pill that didn't let me sleep a lot of nights, but I never did leave my apartment. Some people have. I had no idea there were topical melatonin products. I have a receding hairline, arrg. I started out with a high forehead anyway, so this is adding insult to injury. I'm going to try a melatonin topical for the scalp. Wish me luck. I'm thinking of adding a night cream with melatonin, too. Both are pricey for my meager budget, but if I can swing it, I'll give it a try. xo~linda
@@juliehazlett6749 I never did buy it. It was too expensive for me to do it well. My hair kept thinning and no matter what I did with it, it didn't look good. So, I decided to try wigs. I have 3 of them and have worn them every day for about 2 years. I'm so happy I decided to do that. It's so fast and easy and I never have a bad hair day.

fascinating! I had not idea about the skin benefits of melatonin. I take melatonin, nightly, due to anxiety and work-related stress. Eesh, I was unaware of the potential risk for developing neurodegenerative diseases if taken too frequently.
So it’s not a great idea to take NyQuil (or similar generics) nightly indefinitely, right? My elderly mom has gotten into the questionable habit of doing that to help her sleep . . .
Years ago I read in the book "Melatonin Miracle" that in rat studies, they lived 1/3 longer on melatonin, so I decided to try it on our new Golden Retriever. The breed has an average lifespan of 10-12 years. Our girl is now 15 and going strong in spite of miraculously surviving a very serious accident a couple of years ago. All of her contemporary goldens that we knew passed away years ago. So the rat data is consistent with her results. Naturally my wife and I are on it too.

But just a word of caution to those who take it orally to please consult your doctor. Melatonin supplements are not regulated and often the dosage is way higher than what the body requires. Long term use could lead to changes to the brain and dependency.
Yeah that's what Dr Dray literally says at the end but the comment section acts like they're so right for taking oral melatonin supplement
@@deSeriosa most people are not going to watch a 18 minute video until the end
There is no evidence to suggest dependency. Its used long term for delayed sleep phase.
Most doctors will just put you on pills
So glad someone bothered to mention the GOOD things about it! Excellent!
Could you share with us which supplements you use and why?
Yesssss 💚 I think that you should come up with a melatonin anti aging face cream!! I think that it is a brilliant business idea for you!!!!
Wow! Where would you recommend I purchase this topical melatonin
Dermatology queen of work ethic and consistency you bring awareness to so many important things daily! Great video! ☕️🧴⭐️
Thanks 😊 hope you are having a great day
@@DrDrayzday same too you you’re so professional! 🤠
Hi Uncle Charlie! How was your day? I hope you had a good one. Happy Thursday! Currently 55 degrees and raining here. ☕☔☕

Happy Thursday dr dray thanks for video 😊
Same to you!
Yes there are many studies that shows that melatonin and over the counter medications for sleep leads to dementia.. Dr.Dray just said it too
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme thanks for the info
Hopefully, we will see some topical creams with this in them soon. Thanks for planting the seed of interest for this in the future.
First time to have heard this! Thanks Dr. Dray
So is the Melatonin tablet same as the topical one for antioxidant. I take Melatonin for sleep and to stay asleep🥰
Can you make a video on some skin care products with Melatonin? You brought up a skin brightening cream only.
It's important to "maintain function" inside and out. Plus, if our insides are functioning properly, our outsides will reflect that with good skin, healthy hair and nails. Thanks for the clear, comprehensive info Doc!
Thank you so much for all of your very helpful information. It's greatly appreciated.
Thanks for watching
Very excited about the potential in melatonin. Any products you can recommend?
Happy Thursday dr dray.. Thank you for sharing all this knowledge.. really appreciate that
Happy Thursday
I didn't even know they had topical melatonin. Interesting video as always!
@@ye23. yup…but thanks
Interesting and so helpful content here very precious Thank you! 💎👌🏻
Had no idea melatonin was available in topical. Would have thought it was a marketing gimmick. Thank you again Dr Dray. Learning more everyday .💜
Wow, Dr. Dray, thanks for this. I had no idea and I pride myself on having ideas, lol. Who knew?
Thanks for watching
I take a 3mg melatonin pill every night. Helps me sleep soundly. I am also a colon cancer survivor. I didn't know it came in topical form.
Where can we purchase topical Melatonin?
I have the same question. She claims it's in many products but mentioned only Faded. For sunscreen she mentions many, but for this only one. If it's so beneficial, why not have several videos and several alternative products?
Omg! I just bought it on Saturday because I’m studying and messed up my sleep cycle. I was afraid it was not good for me.
So glad to hear it can help me in other ways.
Dr. Dray you are simply a GODSEND. Thank you so much for your explanations... I'm learning so much from you, I'm wasting less money on useless products and I'm getting better results with the health of my skin and hair. I'm from Italy and I'm grateful you suggest us products which are sold on the european market too. THANK YOU
Carbon 60, Psilo-melatonin is the best ! Melatonin w/trace mi erales & msm is amazing 😻 also I’m 50 & never felt better than on minerals now.
Do you have any reviews of skin care products that contain melatonin? Any before and after pictures?
I wish Dr. Dray would answer this. I have looked all over the thread and I have not found any specific creams recommended.
Thank you dr.dray! I mean why is it the first time I'm hearing this? Your deep dive on these ingredients are very helpful!
thank you so much Dr Dray, I will check also your beauty sleep video 🙂
Both are pricey for my meager budget, but if I can swing it, I'll give it a try.
xo~linda
I take the same thing!
Did it work for your hair regrowth?
@@juliehazlett6749 I never did buy it. It was too expensive for me to do it well. My hair kept thinning and no matter what I did with it, it didn't look good. So, I decided to try wigs. I have 3 of them and have worn them every day for about 2 years. I'm so happy I decided to do that. It's so fast and easy and I never have a bad hair day.
I take black seed oil which helps me sleep continuously without disruption.
Is fresh aloe Vera a good antioxidant to use on the skin.?
Yes I am using a product with melatonin and I like it.
It is called Re-Derma master ampule.
I love your depth of knowledge. This video is a treasure. Much respect to Dr. Dray!
I loved this video. Being 61, skin integrity and preservation is everything. I'll have a look around, but would have thought compounding chemist's would be able to whip something up that is suitable. Anyway, thanks for the video, very informative!
Very informational and encouraging
Dr Dray, THANK YOU!
Happy Thursday Dr Dray!

Does Melatonin cream causes hyperpigmentation on brown skin? Thank you Dr. Dray always love your content!
Love LOVE your content!! Always learning new info. from you to better my life . 🙌🏻🤩🙌🏻
I've never heard of topical melatonin for anti-aging benefits. Very interesting and I need you to tell us what to use lol.
You are the prettiest person I’ve ever seen and you have such a big brain😭😭 I love you Dr Dray thanks for being like a big sister you’re the bomb❤️❤️
Thanks
First time I've heard of melatonin being used topically to benefit the skin, thank you. You look lovely in this video!
Used oral melatonin when working night shift as an RN...always was reluctant about use long term. Also, I use FADED by Topicals 3x/wk with great results. Use it in am under sunscreen, so glad it has melatonin. Luv U Dr Dray. ❤️
I do not see melatonin listed in the Faded ingredients
Confused: did I miss the skin products available with melatonin? I would like to purchase a topical one that you recommend. Thank you always
I second this! Your opinion and knowledge impacts my routine immensely dr dray lol
Faded is the one she showed us
Faded Topicals Brightening and Cleansing serum is what she mentioned.
fascinating! I had not idea about the skin benefits of melatonin. I take melatonin, nightly, due to anxiety and work-related stress. Eesh, I was unaware of the potential risk for developing neurodegenerative diseases if taken too frequently.
Lip color is so pretty today 🥰❤️ as a frequent melatonin taker, I'm very excited to know it helps my skin lol!
How much you are taking
@@padmeshsethuraman5617 I'm on 10mg. Our dog is on 3.
