Cliff will forever be my number 1 bassist! his version of "for whom the bell tolls" is just extraordinary! having said that, Robert's sound is so good! that noisy sound from his bass is just beautiful, my hears are happy! he fits just fine with the band! long live Metallica! ♥
These two nights were incredible. 16 yrs old sprinting through the field to see Metallica as soon as avenged sevenfold ended with thousands of people 🤟🏻
Dudes, If you know music it's well known Cliff had one impressive atonal sound and let's be honest, cliff died tragically which makes you think of the potential that's gone, how he would've improved since he was so young. Rob on the other hand has one of the best traditional skills on bass "let it be funky" you can't compare them since they do not remotely play the same.
@@morerandomcontent6856 I think metallica would have imploded and we wouldn't know any of the members had Dave stayed in the band. They needed to part ways for everyone's sake
Been a fan for well over 30 years. Back when they played this at the Monsters of Rock concert in Russia 1991 was the most epic performance, in fact that whole concert is what legends are made of. The Soviet Union was on it's last leg, Metallica finished them off after that concert.
I was a young teenager when Cliff Burton died very young teenager I was shoe 12 years old I think and I had the opportunity to see Metallica when I was nine with my older brothers in Anaheim California and I have also seen Metallica several times over the years As an adult and with all the respect to the bases that have come since him there truly has never been any real replacement for him nobody’s been as good nobody will be as good and he will always be sorely missed
Hey Brad, Trujillo is very far from overrated, he is one of the best. And I know who Jaco is, anyone who plays any stringed instrument probably knows who he was.
He's really good, but Cliff was a real badass. Look at Robb playing the intro. Standing still, just looking at his bass. And now take a look at Cliff. Now back to Rob. Now back to Cliff. Now back at Rob. I'm on a horse
This work is at its essence, like a painting painted on an infinite canvas at an ever faster pace but never able to find an end. The listener seeks and must only accept a denouement that brings him as close as possible to an intersection whose outcome is chaotic grandiloquence. A good piece of music though for a long walk through the countryside
Saw Metallica four separate times on the Black Album tours…four countries over two years and it was different each time, best was Austin, Tx at the beginning with ‘no’ opening band! 🤘🤘🤘
Rob is not bad, but I cant stand his style. Cliff were an amazing composer, but my favorite is Jason Newsted, his technique was not mind blowing, but base doesn´t have to be mind blowing in Metallica. Mostly, I like Newsted because of his stage-appearance, he was a freaking monster on stage, and his voice blended in pretty good along with Hetfield´s. But the most awesome baseplayer ever, has to be Steve Harris ;)
Rob is, technically speaking, the most talented of the three. He can play a wide array of styles. Newsted was all stage presence, not nearly as talented as Rob. I even think Rob is more talented than Cliff was. Cliff is often put upon a pedestal because he passed. Also, to judge Rob's merits on bass to him not being able to perfectly play Anesthesia is kinda dumb. That was Cliff's song, he wrote it. Naturally he's going to be able to play it better than anyone else. That be like asking him or Jason to go perfectly play Rob's basslines in Infectious Grooves (which by the way are fucking nasty), it's a silly stupid argument.
tonyperkis615 I'll have to disagree here, Cliff Burton was really the best bass player metallica could ever had, He was just too skilled, i agree with the fact that his death make him be missed and put upon a pedestal, but i invite you to look this very song at cliff em al in '86 or '85 and there is no comparison about how awesome he was playing in contrast with trujillo. And i have to say, even Newsted was better in some ways too, maybe trujillo is good with many styles but metallica just need metallica's style.
I don’t get people talking shit about Rob he’s a fucking badass he could kick all of Metallica’s asses and is the best Metallica ever had not saying Newsted or Burton are shit they were gods and so is Rob
Thanks, bcuz time is still marching on for the few people that chose to sit an still sitting year's on end, stuck in their own past?. God bless us always.😇🙏🧬🥁☮️🎶✝️🇺🇲
You can't hire someone lIke Robert Trujillo and not expect those plain bass lines to start Jazzing and swinging. Robert is the most diversed and experienced bass player Metallica ever had but he also will grow jaded with plane basslines. Metaliica finally learned to again give the basses his space to work in. Good thing too because Robert brings much needed color and complexity to the foundation of the songs that has always been needed from day 1. Not to say Burton and Newsted were not good basses but Trujillo is way ahead because he has such a diversed background. I think Cliff could have gotten there. He was already experimenting and expanding outside the metal box with "MOP" when he got killed. He had a diversed taste in music aside from metal. It seems that unfortunate situation worked against Newsted because the rest of the group kept him rather creatively contained. I can see why echobrain became a breath of fresh air for him. Just my thoughts... That Cliff passing was a sad day. I didn't get the chance to see Metallica until the end of that MOP tour.
Cliff Burton is no doubt the best bassist in history. You cant expect anyone to play even near as well as him and sound anything similar. But sadly a bus fell on him twice (now thats metal bro). Jason Newstand was cool but just not right and rob is better than him. Rob also does his gorilla thing and fits Metallica really well. I think rob is great, im glad he is in Metallica.
Daniel wickham Robert is better than Cliff. Any experienced professional bass player will tell you that. Cliff died before he could reach Robert's level. Robert has got a lot of diversity and such a colorful background. I hate to say it but being a metal bassist is probably a hinderance more than a demonstration of Robert's true abilities. But he likes it so thats cool. I can give you a list of carreer bass players that are better than Cliff. Not to take away from Cliff. Cliff was absolutely amazing!
***** If Robert is better than Cliff why does Robert struggle so much to play the old numbers where Cliff's bass was a big factor - look i think that Robert is as great a bassist like the next guy but he is not better than Cliff in any way.
Cliff was an amazing bassplayer and musician, but it's kind of ignorant to say that he's better than Robert. Make his fight on the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey
On the fight, for they are right, yes, by who's to say?
For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know
Stiffened wounds test there their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
Take a look to the sky just before you die
It is the last time you will
Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
