Hey guys! Here's part 1 to our first Q & A video!
I wasn't sure how long this would take but after I finished recording I had a lot of video to edit and had to put the answers into 2 separate videos.
I'll edit the 2nd portion today and hopefully have it up by tonight or tomorrow!

I cannot stress enough how heartbreaking this sad truth is.... Too many people impulse buy parrots because of cute or funny traits they've seen in other birds. No two parrots are alike...
A life stuck in a cage is cruel and so unfair to these magnificent beautiful creatures.
They deserve the absolute best!
So if you are interested in a parrot, adopt one because you have the time and energy and if you want to save them from a life stuck behind bars, not solely because they are cute or funny etc.
parrots are a LIFETIME commitment. They can live up to 80+ years!!
I've given up many many things to give my two parrots the best life they can possibly have! (Night out, gone on weekends, vacation time, a clean quiet house, extra money.. Etc.)
But it's all worth it, my parrots are my family and I love them like my children!
Please DO YOUR RESEARCH before adopting.
After all, we have our friends, our jobs, and our hobbies...

Katie you are not only a true inspiration for bird dog and new mothers but you are just so beautiful on the outside as you are inside. I'm a 65 year old great grandmother and animal rescuer though I have only had four parakeets. Two were my Moms before she passed away and we loved them dearly. I am a 65 year old great grandmother and i know the emotional as well as finical commitment not to mention the time that animals require and we sincerely commend you and thank you for making these commitments clear. Thank you for sharing sweet Gotcha and Letty.

Pyrrhic Victory well if your 65 and you had your first child between 20 and 25 your kids would be in their 40s and if they also had there first born in their twenties there kid would be 20 something and they could have a 4 or 5 year old

I think Gotcha was mistreated because people don't get informed about the character and necessities of the animal they are getting. Plus the fact that they are scared of the animal. Lucky Katie was brought up with birds and her mother must have taught her how to treat them. Plus she has a lot of patience and love to give to all those creatures , her husband and two children. She is teaching Ollie to be kind to Gotcha. I am glad Gotcha found a good family

Oh. His PAST. Good grief. You wrote “pass” , ! and for a second I thought Gotcha died.
I know you say adopt, don't shop. But I had to buy the bird I have now because the pet shop wasn't even treating her nicely. (even in front of customers) And to top it all off, they said that she was a "Fancy Green-Cheeked Conure," but after I did some research, I found out there is no such thing. When I bought her, they literally dragged her out of the cage with a net and dumped her into a box! :'( I've had her for 3 years now and plan to keep her for the rest of her life. She even knows a few tricks. P.S, she is a cinnamon conure.
Fly Sistas a fancy green cheeked conure and a cinnamon conure is the same bird the only bird a green cheeked conure can be mistaken with is the maroon bellied conure those are two different birds(because they look so similar some store owners get them confused) but the cinnamon and the green cheeked are the same it also comes in other colors. lafeber.com/pet-birds/species/green-cheeked-conure/ here's a website you could look at for more information

I agree with you, we’ve purchased both a conure and a hedgehog from pet stores as we couldn’t leave them there in those conditions. Now, this was over 20 years ago so there was no internet making to find out who to report “bad” pet stores to.
Katie you have the perfect calm personality or demeanor that is necessary when dealing with these sensitive parrots. In only 2 yrs you certainly have done an excellent job with Gotcha. Kudos! Loved the Q&A.

I've been a mom to a sun conure for 23 years. I couldn't stand the thought of someone mistreating her. It would be like abusing a baby or toddler. It was obvious it hurt you to speak of it. Thank goodness you rescued him, and it's always wonderful to watch your sweet and loving relationship with Gotcha.
Katie I just wanted to tell you that your videos have gotten me through the worst thing I've had happen to me this year. I went through my first breakup to someone I said "I love you" to and you and gotcha and your entire family helped me feel so much better. On the days when I wouldn't stop crying I'd just spend watching you guys. I just wanted to thank you for that

It is so lovely to see Gotcha in a happy, calming home. How you manage to keep your family and animals happy and well looked after is a credit to your upbringing.

They require so much attention I have no idea how people can raise them. It takes a special kind of person that's for sure. Good on ya
The attention that these birds need is actually simple to handle, put them on your shoulder and go about you business for the day. Most, but not all, of these birds just want to be with you whatever you do. As funny a it sounds, take your bird( if you get one) to the bathroom with you , take them with you anywhere you can. Talk to them also. I even take my UC to work with me and just about anytime I go to the hardware store or anything similar. Most grocery store will frown about you walking in with a bird, at least the ones around me so dont be afraid to call ahead and ask.

This is such a great video! I love hearing abut your history with Gotcha. Honestly, hearing about the way he was treated before you got him made me get very emotional, and you seemed to get emotional about it too (unsurprisingly). How anyone could treat a bird that way, poke him with sticks or hit him, is disgusting. I am so glad he's with you, and so well loved and cared for. If only all abused or abandoned birds got second chances like you've given Gotcha.
Looking forward to the next video - and all those in between. Watching your videos has become my go to when I need a pick up.

It's so sad what happened to Gotcha, but it's also heartwarming that Letty was given up before she ended up neglected, you know?
First time I've seen this q&a, although I've been watching lots of your other videos about Gotcha and other members of your brood. He is a beautiful boy. You mentioned how raucous they can be. I live in Australia which is in severe drought at the moment and many of the flocks of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos have come to the coastal areas to feed. You wanna hear a flock of 60 or 70 of these huge birds bickering and screeching at one another while on the wing. They're a spectacular sight but very noisy. I was very pleased to see POTUS Trump sign the Animal Cruelty Act yesterday.

I work at a pet store and got close to a baby sun conure that had a hard time opening up, and I decided to show him some videos of gotcha and at first he wasnt sure, but recently whenever I would get my phone he knew it was time to see gotcha and started licking and making kissing noises as soon as he saw him, It was nice because he was always iffy with birds.

Katie, people like you help restore my faith in humanity. There is so much cruelty and just ignorance in this world regarding animals. It is a hard world to be an animal lover. Not many people take the time to become educated about the animals they bring into their lives like they should and it is so refreshing to see someone who has put in the work and is sharing their knowledge. I love your vids and I love Gotcha. I'm absolutely fascinated with parrots and I've learned a lot from watching your vids. thank you for being a voice for these unique, intelligent and complicated animals and for being a voice for animals in general :)

Thank you for all your fun, beautiful and informative videos. My wife and I really enjoy each and every one of them. Our umbrella Cockatoo, Callie, loves to chime in along with Gotcha when he gets to babbling. She too is a rescue from the original owners who raised her from a chick but didn't know how to deal with her as an adult. They would lock her in the bathroom and let her scream. Unfortunately, she did turn to feather plucking. When we got her, she was half naked. Fast forward 20 years and she is a happy, healthy cuddle bug. Looking forward to Q & A part 2.

When you are sharing the Abuse Gotcha went through, I had tears. I could tell you were emotional too. I will never understand how people can behave like that! Im so glad that Gotcha has a great forever home that is filled with love, fun, and family. And I am glad that Letties background does not have abuse.

What an horrific story for Gotcha’s life before you. That made me so teary. No animal deserves to be hit and hurt and ignored. Gotcha is so lovely with you and so calm with you. He’s adorable when you call him and he comes 💜
