      Yes they are very intelligent, I've noticed that. Have watched the squirrels for 20 yrs. I also once had a rescue squirrel who was 10 days old when I got him. That was a fun adventure. Squirrels are nice and they don't bother the birds I feed either. They're polite.

    Years ago I lived in the woods in the mountains in a very rural area. We had lots of tree squirrels there and lots of trees with various nuts. One morning in winter, I went to my closet to get my boots which I always wore to go out and feed the horses. I started to put on a boot and noticed something didn't feel right in my boot. I turned it upside down and out fell 3 little acorns. Somehow, a squirrel had managed to come up through our floor and into my closet to hide his acorns. I was overwhelmed by Mr. Squirrel's cuteness! These days I still live in the woods and feed the squirrels sunflower seeds and other treats, they seem to really appreciate it.

    Nuts are needed most in winter, fresh fruits etc. in summer. Too many nuts can cause them problems. I love to feed the wild ones, too. 😁

    The squirrels love to eat with the birds and rabbits in my garden. I just put enough for all the birds and critters. The deer will eat there too. 😊❤❤❤

      Hi! Thanks so much! Yes, I name the ones that I can recognize. My favorite little buddy is named Patches. He comes up to me takes peanuts directly from my hand!

      @NaturallyCourtneyChannel It is so special when one trusts you enough to do that. I just saw a Squirrel I call Flopsy in the park after 2 months and she came right up to me!

    The dark side of gray squirrels iis that they are cannibalistic. I had one run across my yard with a nearly full grown squirrel in its mouth.

    I do my best to feed the birds, not the squirrels. I live in a green enclave that is part of a city. Rats are a real problem in the whole metroplex- a problem I don't want to have! I keep birdseed off the ground by using catch-basins under my feeders. My feeders are the tube-type. They have springboard style perches that are meant to close if a squirrel tries to climb onto them. That helps, but squirrels still get some seeds. One must give squirrels credit: they're always going to prevail, to some extent!

      That is an interesting set up. Yes, you’re right…the squirrel’s superpower is definitely tenacity! 😂

    Thank you very much, very nice vid and informative. But I find the music quite annoying, especially when you want us to listen to the squirrel, with loud background music: counterproductive!

    • @NaturallyCourtneyChannel
      @NaturallyCourtneyChannel  10 днів тому +1

      Noted. The music will remain as it creates the vibe, but I totally understand if it’s not your cup of tea. Can’t please everyone. I’ll look into lowering the music volume when I want you to hear animals or something in the future 👍

    We call Squirrels "Larry and Lotte" in my Family... 😂 So if you're at my house Uncle Larry might be on the feeder in the back yard!
    Cardinal Birds are Gerorge and Bernadette (after the Catholic Cardinal; even though we're not Catholic)
    Of course Woody visits too! That's a no brain name 😂

    • @NaturallyCourtneyChannel
      @NaturallyCourtneyChannel  2 місяці тому

      LOL Too funny! Glad I’m not the only who names their backyard family! My favorite squirrel is Patches, the cardinals are Ami and Lily, and the red-bellied woodpeckers are George and Weezie 😂
