All advertisement companies should learn something from you. You give us a part of you. You’re truly sharing and you’re the reason why I started eating Korean food. Very genuine. I hope those store appreciate you. Thank you for sharing
The brands that she uses should send free product for her to use as she's always plugging them. It goes to show she is not driven by money/profit but she has genuine love for Korean food and she wants everyone/anyone to know. She is like a Korean Julia Childs. Those ppl are so lucky to get the Maangchi shopping experience. Love your work Maangchi ❤❤❤❤
Lol, that's definitely helpful for the store! I do that sometimes when I'm not sure which product is "better". Example, the glass noodles I use for my dish.
Wow!!! I just realized how many translations there is!!!! Im so proud of how far this women is going with her videos this shows how many different people from all around yhe world are watching her videos she deserves so much love! :)
I just bought a small tub of Gochujang. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. The kind I got was not too hot. I also bought two small bags of Glutenous rice flour. And some toasted sesame oil. Starting slow.
This is so helpful. I can read hangul better now, but the reason this is really helpful is because culturally I don’t know the variety of reasons korean ingredients are sold for, like cutting down time versus improving flavor or lowering cost. So i can much better understand what I’m looking at now. Thank you Maangchi!!
Maangchi, thank you so much for this video. I go to Korean grocery store often and I always get confused by different brands of sauces. You have made it so simple and easy to understand what I should be looking for when I’m shopping. I absolutely love you and your videos. Also, I can’t wait until your new recipe book is released in October. I already prepurchased my copy.

Maangchi I am an Arab girl from Saudi Arabia. I love your channel. You are nice and a good teacher for cooking. Thank you.💜 I appreciate your efforts very much , but I hope that the Arabic language will be added at all times.👍
I just found you on UA-cam. I absolutely love your video. I love Asian food and I'm always so confused when I go to the Asian market. When I ask for help their always so rude. This helps a bunch and I can't wait to go again w this new found information. I am so excited to watch all your other videos.
My husband is korean and he’s always asking me to make some korean food and of course I always watching her videos is really helpful ❤️❤️❤️😘 thank you so much madam 🥰😘 -Ahra from Philippines 🇵🇭
Wow 🤩 I am your big fan thank you for replying my comment I’m so happy ❤️❤️❤️ you have such a good heart love lots Madam Maangchi 😘😘😘😘 thank you for all the information good vibes 😘❤️
I went to your website and found a Korean grocery store in my province here in Canada. Thank you for al of this great information. Thank you to the people that helped put all of this information together. Your hard work and dedication is appreciated.
Since you are Canadian you should check out the Canadian Korean UA-camr Cheap Lazy Vegan. She runs the vegan cafe Saveg. She has a recipe on her channel for vegan kimchee. It's thanks to her that I got into Korean ingredients. I now have tubs of gochujang and ssamgiang in my fridge.
I am from North East England and although my mother only liked English food it was just like shopping with mum, every thing I picked up she said “have you checked the date” lol 😀
Thank you for breaking this all down in such a clear and informative way!! I feel a little more confident now when shopping for these ingredients! I love your videos, you are so smart, and wise, and adorable!!! Love from Maryland ❤
I luv u, you are making things so much more clearer for me. I watch Korean mukbang as they cook and eat all the time but don't know what to buy to make it. Now as I watch you(I watch all your videos) I can make beautiful Korean food. so so happy
thanks kimchi lady , you are fantastic , i am a retired chef but i salute you, love korean drama which my grandchildren love the food we see on the show , so i started to cook korean food, your a big help , salute my dear
Thank you for being so thoughtful to make this video. My favorite thing to do is go out to eat, find a dish I love, and replicate it. You are such a big help. I love dishes from all around the world and try to incorporate these into my diet. You do a great job representing your country and are most appreciated.🕊
Maangchi sometimes I see that you use different containers to store items like soy sauce, hot pepper flakes, sesame oil, sesame seeds, kimchi, and all that stuff, so I know there are a lot of items and spices but I would like to know if you can make a video to show us what type of containers we can use for some of this items, how and where to store them and for how long? This videos are so helpful, thanks!
Jorge Perales I think you might find more info on her blog. Also most of the time she usually mentions where she stores it when she makes certain things. For dry spices, like pepper flakes and roasted seaweed, she usually puts it in the freezer in a sealed or knotted bag to keep it fresh, and I think for fermented sauces like doenjang and the like she just keeps it in a container with a plastic film touching the surface and store it in a fridge. But that's what I kind of gleaned from all the videos I watched.
Thank you so much! For us caucasian Americans in love with your cuisine and interested in learning to cook it ourselves, we are often lost in Asian markets looking for the "simple ingredients" listed in online recipes and mentioned in videos. The content of your video is GOLD!!
Thank you Maangchi, this video helped me so much. I use the brands you recommended also and it really makes a difference. Food tastes much more delicious.
Rice syrup can be used for any recipe that needs corn syrup. I use it for pecan pie. I find that Red Boat makes the best anchovy-based fish sauce. Kadoya is a superior sesame oil. I buy that one all the time. Thanks for the tip about yuja. I will seek that out next time.
I'm in the Scottish Highlands so I have to order everything online... it's all going well though. So far I have made kimchi, mandu and mandu-pi and later today, if the delivery comes, I'm going to make rice cakes.. Next weekend - fish cakes! Wish me luck!
I've got good gochujang, gochigaru and doenjang from our asian stores. I'm so into Korean food nowadays and make good kimchi, gamjatang, budae Jjigae, korean ribs stew, grilled pork even banchan. I started learning Korean dishes from you so a big thank you Maangchi.
aliz submitted Hungarian caption! Thank you so much, aliz! This video has captions in 10 different languages now. I thank all volunteer translators for your time, you help all of us! ua-cam.com/users/timedtext_video?auto=yes&v=pVafhi_saY8
Following you! I am in Korea and it is sometimes difficult to ask someone in the grocery store. Thank you so much for creating this video. It really helps. Now I have the confidence to pick-up items at the store. Thank you so much Maangchi!
glad to have found you here. it was of great help to know a korean who can speak english, i have bought doenjang, gochuchang and samjang but i have no idea how to use it, now i know, thanks to you mangchi!
OH MY GOD!! i’d love to have someone explaining and translating the food packages at the japanese/korean supermarket close to my home in Mexico !!! I’d like to take some korean cooking lessons too…. Thank you for your informative video !!!!
Your love and passion for Korean recipes and culture is endearing. ❤ It makes us want to eat Korean food, visit South Korea, learn more about that beautiful country. Thank you for sharing your talent to the world.
Aaaah why did I just see this now. I am always clueless when buying in Korean grocery. I can read Korean a bit but I'm still confused on which brand or which product is used for which recipe. I usually just end up buying things I don't need like BTS beverages or snacks they've eaten lol 😅 Thank you for this series!!! I will add this to my favorites so I can go back whenever I need to.
I'm a Korean who living in Dublin, and It's so impressive there is BIG Korean market in the U.S.! In Dublin we have only small market. Even it's smaller than any convenience store in Korea. I don't have much options to choose. 아무튼 사랑해요 망치아줌마!!!!!
I live in the USA and I was impressed by how huge the store is. Most like;y it's in a very big city like LA, Chicago, or NYC. Most Asian grocery stores in the USA just has a Korean section. And the aisles are rarely that wide. It's usually in larger cities (Over 100,000 people.) that you see specific Korean (Or any other country.) grocery stores. Although you will see Vietnamese groceries is a lot of small towns since so many Vietnamese refugees were settled in small towns throughout the USA.
I'm from Dublin as well! I live near the city centre so getting to Parnell street and going to Kimchi (next to the Shakespeare pub) is just so handy c:
These shopping videos are the best! I went to my local Korean store & bought the best soy sauce, sesame oil, noodles and the citrus tea in a jar that looks like marmalade. It is so good!!! I also bought short grain rice and toasted sushi nori. Thank you Maangchi!
Very informative video, thanks for taking the time to shop with us! Even though I've taught myself how to read the Korean Hangul (which REALLY helps when you're shopping) I wasn't always sure what the differences were between the varieties of soy sauces, pastes and spices. Google Translate partially did the job but going through the specifics with you in this video is way better and it has clarified a lot of the questions that I had in mind. This is now my go-to video the next time I need to remind myself of what to get. There are several Korean grocery stores fortunately dotted around my city, but not as MASSIVE as the ones you have in the States! If we have a serious store like that here I probably won't be getting out anytime soon. :)
I fall in love with Korean food while I lived in Korea. But here in Germany I need to cook it myself. Sadly my korean wife doesn't know how to cook Korean cuisine, so she can't help me to improve my cooking. But this video was so helpful. Even though I can read Korean, for me it is often very difficult to find to correct ingredients. Thank you :)
Thank you so much, I was a Korean kid that couldn't speak Korean, I learned Korean but I don't understand some of the products on the shelf in Seoul, thank you so much!!!
So helpful and amazing, thank you so much for providing greater context for what is used, why, and taking away the doubt and fear of being overwhelmed!
I’m a new fan however I’ve been sharing! I love Korean food! I was born & raised in SF! When I was a kid the foods were authentic! So I now cook at home for more flavors! I’m so excited about her educating on how to use different items!
Thank you for making this kind of videos. It is very informative for non Koreans like me. I have wasted a lot of money in the past on buying wrong products.
Maangchi, thank you for making this video cos I'm always overwhelmed with all the sauces I see at the Korean mart and didn't know which to choose. Now I have a better idea. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this... I have been going to asian stores for 20 years since I was a little girl and always wondered what all of these things were. Now I can cook with them!!
Hey Maangchi...I'm so glad you are in the grocery store....I went to an Hmart about 30 minutes from my home, got in there and got all turned around 😔...this is so educational...Thank you so much for your efforts....☺️
I’ve been to H mart too!! I was soooo lost looking for dried anchovies bc I heard they came in a bag like a snack but they only had like see through boxes of them by the fridges
This is amazing!! It's very hard for me to get around due to spinal issues, so this helps *so much!!* I can shop online for some ingredients I never would have known to look for, otherwise. Thank you so much for this ♡♡♡
OH THANK YOU. I love having you explain the differences in products. I bought fish sauce and have used it in one or two recipes but would like to know more recipes to use it in. Foreign gricery stores are fascinating to me as I come from growing up in Japan, Spain, Italy, Portugal LOVE LOVE foods from those countries ! Now I want to learn Korean food❣️❣️🙏🙏and I love all those countries and its language and living styles!! PLEASE keep these videos coming ❣️❣️❣️❣️🙏🙏🙏
If you don't have a dedicated Korean market in your area see if there is a 99 Ranch Market. That's where I get my gochujang and ssamgiang here in Las Vegas.
What a great idea, Maangchi, taking us all shopping with you! I usually wander around, feeling slightly confused and out of place, but truly fascinated. I LOVE your culture's cuisine!
So helpful! I spend hours in our Hmart in London and always have to guess or give up......I'm ready for my next Korean food shop x thank you Maangchi x
Spanish (Latin America) caption is available now. One of my viewers Humberto Elenes submitted the caption for our Spanish speaking viewers. Thank you so much!
you are my Asian Korean Aunty in my head you have a world adopted biracial black and white daughter in DC area Maangchi your spirit brings m such joy! I love you so much!
Danggg, I thought I was the only to do it. I even rewatched some of her cooking videos to know exactly which brands she used as she didn't clearly say in this video which brand of gochujang she likes.
Maangchi ,muito obrigada por suas recomendações, já olhei seu site e encontrei os mercados aqui em São Paulo,Brasil .Amo seu canal. Parabéns, tem me inspirado muito. Abraços e Feliz ano Novo!
soooo useful! I watched so many kdramas (fav. series "lets eat! ;P ) and now I have to learn Korean food! I always enjoy your videos, grocery store knowledge is very important. to get correct products for basic cooking. specially when you don't know what you are doing at all. Thanks a lot for this!!
different brands, I'd guess the darker container one was more expensive, and it's colour is more similar to the one of the product, the other one may use a lighter colour to disguise it
I've been visiting our local H-Mart for a decade now and I never knew about half of the ingredients you explained! I can't wait to find the yuja tea base and give it a try!
Wow Maangchi this really inspires me to cook korean food! By starting on what to choose and buying quality products, right? I may not be good in reading korean words but you made it easy by describing how it should look like! Thank you and God bless! ❤️☺️
Oh my! I'm obsessed with Maangchi's cooking videos and she inspiring me to go and try asian cousine (as my roommate is vietnamiese) and i like the asian tastes :) And i also live in Hungary too, however the asian products in food is pretty expensive sadly (as a poor university student it is hard to enjoy the freedom of cooking)
Omg, u are real teacher ❤ lurve
This is awesome she took her followers with her. I've never seen anyone do this before.
This tells me she is a real teacher.

@@Maangchi I agree. What you pay ,what you get
Lol, that's definitely helpful for the store! I do that sometimes when I'm not sure which product is "better". Example, the glass noodles I use for my dish.

These brand should sponsor Maangchi!
They really should because she is bringing more attention to their products while helping people learn how to shop!

This is a list of Korean grocery stores in Germany. www.maangchi.com/shopping/germany
I hope there is one in your area. Good luck!

That is exactly what I do!
These videos are incredibly informative. Thank you for explaining so thoroughly!

soooo useful! I watched so many kdramas (fav. series "lets eat! ;P ) and now I have to learn Korean food! I always enjoy your videos, grocery store knowledge is very important. to get correct products for basic cooking. specially when you don't know what you are doing at all. Thanks a lot for this!!
👍
Why is the darker one in the lighter container and the lighter one in the darker container?
I got the wrong kind at the store under the assumption that the light would be in the light container 😅
different brands, I'd guess the darker container one was more expensive, and it's colour is more similar to the one of the product, the other one may use a lighter colour to disguise it
jj
Thats what I thought!!
The darker container inhibits oxidation in a lighter fish sauce which keeps it light longer.
뒤에 졸졸 따라다니시는거 넘넘 귀여워요 망치님도 너무너무 귀여우세요ㅜㅠㅠㅠ 다들 한식에 진심이신,,❤
I've been visiting our local H-Mart for a decade now and I never knew about half of the ingredients you explained! I can't wait to find the yuja tea base and give it a try!
I really like this video because I like Korean food very much. I just don't know which sauce I am gonna buy for cooking some certain dishes.
Thank you! I get so overwhelmed with the sauce aisles at my local Asian grocery 😅. It reminds me of picking out a fine bottle of wine.
Wow Maangchi this really inspires me to cook korean food! By starting on what to choose and buying quality products, right? I may not be good in reading korean words but you made it easy by describing how it should look like! Thank you and God bless! ❤️☺️
very informative. your video helped alot of us. thank you so much . Singapore.
Glad it was helpful!
This content is lifesaver 😆😆 감사합니다!!
I never knew there was a korean grocery store in Hungary! Now i can finally make korean food! Im so happy
Good luck with making delicious food! www.maangchi.com/shopping/hungary
Oh my! I'm obsessed with Maangchi's cooking videos and she inspiring me to go and try asian cousine (as my roommate is vietnamiese) and i like the asian tastes :)
And i also live in Hungary too, however the asian products in food is pretty expensive sadly (as a poor university student it is hard to enjoy the freedom of cooking)
Katalin, there are many places to order online and it's usually cheaper. Does Hungary have Amazon?
Just wait until you see the prices loool your happiness will wane just a bit
