I noticed years ago that sugary foods like pie, cobbler, and ice cream increase the volume of my tinnitus, usually within just a few minutes of eating them.
Drs Ben Bikman and Casey Means talk about the relationship between insulin resistance and both tinnitus and Meniere’s. I think eliminating sugar is a good start, but it may require reversing the insulin resistance, which typically takes more than just eliminating sugar. It’s more about reducing overall carbohydrate intake and eating less frequently. In fact, there are people who have had success with getting rid of the symptoms of Meniere’s, including tinnitus, with extended water fasting.
57 year old male and US Army Veteran that has been looking for a solution to my tinnitus for the last several years. I cycle about 80-100 miles a week so I'm in decent shape. I'm certain that I have insulin resistance though as I eat sugar just about every day. I also gave up alcohol about 8 months ago. Ears still ring. I have not had any sugar for the last 4 days and my tinnitus has gone down, considerably. Thanks for this info, I'm optimistic that sugar is the culprit.
That's great to hear that you've noticed a significant improvement in your tinnitus after cutting back on sugar. It's fascinating how dietary changes can impact our health in various ways.
❤❤❤I AM SUFFERING FROM TINNITUS AND WHEN I EAT SALT AND LEMON THE TINNITUS RAMP UP RIGHT AWAY. ❤ THANK YOU DR. FOR YOUR VIDEO ❤
Im in a ketose diet for 8 days now. I did have a small spike one day due to stress, but it were the best 7 days i had with t so far. Very low volume not bothering me. Your body transforms carbohydrates into sugar, wich feeds inflamations in your body, your brain . Less inflammation is good for you. It does have an effect on my t. So i eat vegetables, meat, fruit, nuts and thats it. Its an experiment and so far i am happy with the results. I feel healthier anyway. Ketose is the natural state of the healthy body, we eat too much sugar, its in everything and its crazy. Fruit sugar is ok
TY for the great video, was very helpful
You're welcome, Rick. Glad it was helpful. :)
I’m glad that I was able to get the information from this video.
Glad to hear that, Nubian. 😊
Thank you.. I know there has to be something to help, and I need your professionalism.
Hi Erin, feel free to contact our team at Treble Health and we can do our best to help you.
I eat very low carb - between 50-60 grams of TOTAL carb per day. I don’t cheat…my a1c is 5.0. I have mild tinnitus and I have been very low carb without fail since 2010.
I believe there to be truth to this video. After quitting smoking pot for years, I started drinking a lot of beer. I recently noticed a very noticeable increase in tinnitus when trying to go to sleep. I can definitely see a correlation.
Thanks doc 👍
You're welcome, Steve :)
Makes sense.. a high sugar diet wreaks havoc all over the body.
G'day, I don't have tinnitus but I wanted to know can sugar affect hearing generally. I have been wondering for a few months as I've recently seen my brothers in the UK and they both have hearing loss and I don't. I'm on a Keto diet. (since 2018) we are all in our 50's.
Thank you Dr. Ben :) ...It is very true about the relationship between sugar and tinnitus. My tinnitus started in 2021 and a few months later, I discovered that I had diabetes. Although my tinnitus has not gone away, I definitely notice that it ramps up after eating too many carbs.
How u sleep and live normal wth tinnitus any advice
I sleep with a fan on all night and use masking devices during the day if I need to. I have gotten more used to it over time, however sometimes it spikes when I have stress or sugar (like this past week) and I start worrying about it again. The daytime is not much of a bother now, it’s mostly nighttime that’s a bit difficult, but like I said, my ceiling fan helps to drown it out and I sleep ok.. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon :)
@@dianne3939 Thanx alot i do that also for my tinnitus using devices hoping with time will not using ask God yo heal us from this disease
@@dianne3939 I hope u alse feel more better and all tinnitus sufferrers
I have had tinnitus for 15 years, mild when no ear infections. But 6 months ago was comfort eating with excess sugar, put weight on. (Tinnitus spike) Had bladder infection (not related) Docs tests said zero sugar in urine, diabetes level nornal. But I cut out sugar anyway to reduce weight a bit, sweets, biscuits, cakes etc. If sugar in normal meals then did not cut out. Tinnitus very mild now. Always had sweet tooth, hard to start with until body gets used to low sugar intake.
But sugar is no use to your body, even if no diabetes problem.
Wowsers thats me 😢😢 it explains everything to me thank you so much
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks Dr Ben. How about link between salt and tinnitus?
Hi Maclean, we have another video dedicated to this subject. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/iAapACxlIJM/v-deo.html
I want to find out if the sound of bloodstream in my head would be considered as tinnitus.... i used to have a hissing noise when it all started 4 months ago...
I recenty had an increase in my tinnitus due to a new noise trauma. I dont regurlary consume a lot of sugar, but today I drank a lot of sodas and had deserts and chocolate bars. Could this have increase my tinnitus permanently or inhibit the recovery process?
Those chocolate chip cookies in the intro image looked delicious!
Just wondering I have tinnitus but I went to the doctor and I have a blood work everything comes out pretty good even my sugar level. The question is maybe my insulin?
So I assume when you give amount of sugar per day you're talking about added sugar. Because, you can get too much sugar that's natural in foods (such as juice and dried fruit).
I have had tinnitus for 7 years and few problems developed
Severe stenosis so fitted stent then pre diabetes
I developed anxiety attacks and my tinnitus went through the roof

Good evening Doctor could you answer a question for me, please I got tinnitus in my left ear and pressure that comes and goes 2 weeks after I had covid I went to see an ENT and he thinks stress and anxiety could be the cause what's your opinion on this. Thanks, Craig.
Depends on your history, Craig. There are numerous potential causes or triggers for tinnitus. Feel free to contact our team at Treble Health and we can do our best to help you.
@@treblehealth thank you for the reply doctor, unfortunately, am in the UK would that still be possible.
Eating MSG may have the same effect.
Gosh, sometimes it's the result of injury. I wonder if I'm seeing this bc my family would rather believe it's from this. Ugh. Denial on their part.
I have mild sensorineural hearing loss and now have tinnitus for the last 2 months. I get spikes at weird random times which seems odd to me. Sometimes my breakfast may spike it and sometimes it doesn’t even when it’s the exact same meal. My tinnitus is mostly in my left ear, but I also get ringing in my right. In fact the right ringing also spikes in sound so it’s all odd to me.
Could a hamburger bun and fries cause spikes? The other night I had a small spoonful of my son’s blizzard that had chocolate in it and I got a spike about 15 mins later. It seems anything can cause my spikes. Would carbs and sugars still make my tinnitus worse when I am told my tinnitus is from my mild hearing loss issue?
This stuff is driving me crazy.
It is possible to have fluctuations in tinnitus due to dietary triggers. Salt, sugar, caffeine and alcohol are 4 of the most common ones. We would be happy to discuss your situation further and help you manage your tinnitus. Stat here by taking the Tinnitus Quiz: treble.health/tinnitus-quiz

@@Lauren-vd4qe what is that ?
@@craigsayer8710 its made from a green leaf and is incredibly sweet, u wd only need a pinch of stevia powder to sweeten a cup of tea or a drink. get one with no aftertaste

I have tinnitus and ate a huge chocolate eclair this afternoon and my ears are ringing out of my gourd! I won't be doing that again. I wonder if a boiled egg or a handful of nuts would help.
Some people notice increases in their tinnitus with excess sugar. It may be helpful to keep a food journal to see if salt or caffeine also have an impact on your tinnitus.
I eat zero sugar . No luck .
try the salt connection, scroll up
I've been keto for a long time and it did nothing for my tinnitus.
Same , but I would still recommend this healthy lifestyle.

Recently came back from a 23hrs flight, started feeling clogged and pressure in my ears, which i went to the doctor for was told i had fluid behind my ears, given nasal spray to clear, the fluid is gone, but the pressure and a feeling of fullness remains, my right ear has been ringing since the last 3 weeks, was told by the doctors it might be because of my nasal polyps, thats why my ear is ringing and my ears ain't getting better, do you think this ringing will go away once the pressure and nasal polyps resolves.
How is your tinnitus now
What not many say is salisalate intolerance....want to kno if its your cause of tinnitus....dont eat after 8 pm ..go to bed...wake up..do your daily routine...then aroynd noon eat a couple handfuls of strawberrys or blu berries...if your tinnitus goes off hook between eating and 3 hours...u most likley have a salisailate intolernce...
what is that
so do you have to stop eating these foods if you notice a spike?
not really, just eat protein and/or acv drink before any carbs to prevent a spike in blood glucose levels...
Too many 'coulds' and 'woulds' to take you seriously.
Metformin buddies
Even if you're saying it correctly, I hate this pronunciation of tinnitus almost as much as I hate my tinnitus.
There is a lot more to diabetes than simply eating too much sugar. Please, do jot be afraid to eat grapes 🍇 and consult a professional for advice.
