The lower recoil and shootability of the 42 has always put it ahead of the 43 in my mind. I have so much more confidence I can hit anything I’d need too with the 42 under stress than my 43. If you want a gun that’s thinner lighter and easier to shoot than most single stack 9’s the Glock 42 is it. Get you some high quality ball ammo or exactly what you said the extreme defenders or penetrators and you’re good to go in my opinion. Solid video man. 👌

I have the 43 and the only way I shoot it comfortably is with a hogue grip the only issue is with the grip it’s now as fat as a 26. So the 43 sits at a weird place for me. Keep debating a 42 but I do like the ammo price of 9mm. Shrug

My every day carry is a Glock 42 .380 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a pocket holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!

If you need a pocket pistol and it's the difference between carrying or not, then this is an amazing option. Glock reliability at this size and a manageable-recoil caliber that still demands respect even though it could be criticized for not penetrating or having enough stopping power. I went to the range with a co-worker (Both of use are retired LE). He brought his Ruger LCP Max. I brought my Glock 42. I’ve never shot the Ruger. He has never shot the Glock. We shot each other’s pistols. He looked at me with the I made a mistake look. That Ruger was snappy and my Glock was smooth. We both can shoot snappy well, but why if you don’t have to. He argued that he has more rounds. I argued that we are retired and if you need that many rounds, you got yourself into the wrong situation. Plus, we know how to reload fast.

Love the 42 and wouldn't think poorly of any person that carried one. It's an excellent firearm and it's one of the most trustworthy firearms ever invented. If people want to carry a G42 and they can do so without any problems, then I think that's great. It's a capable firearm (esp with the right ammo). Like you were saying about the Xtreme Defenders... in .380, they actually outperform many (if not most) 9mm JHP rounds. Can go on and on about how good they are compared to other rounds (including comparing the .380 Xtreme Defenders and other 9mm rounds)... and especially at barriers and being barrier blind.

Well, I just got my Glock42 a couple weeks ago and I heard this a lot "I love my G42” well so do I. yes it’s a pocket gun, yes it can be a light duty carry, it. all the quirks that people knocked about the 42 is what makes it unique in the gun world, it’s not too big, not too small, it’s “just right” so slender so light you forget you’re carrying it. I put 200 rounds of FMJ and HP through it with no problems. I knew it was going to be reliable so I’ve upgraded it. Nothing internal a tr5 laser, true Glo night sights, strike industries, 8 round mag extensions bought two more OEM factory mags for pocket, added, racking assist, and Pachmayer grip. It truly is the (everything gun) "like your videos dude and love your fn503 so slender and easy to carry. Checked one out the other day at the gun store. Really thinking about picking it up. I like small accurate fast shooting secret agent type guns. lol like you.👍

Glock drug it's feet on a single stack .380 because everybody wants a tiny LCP sized gun.
The issue is a recoil system that short in such a small gun is very hard to engineer. They need to be sprung tight to work which leads to a loss in reliable function. Pocket guns can be pretty reliable. But they are inherently less reliable than larger guns.
I believe glock refused to release a gun that would be inherently unreliable. So they eventually released a .380 with a slightly larger frame and most importantly a slightly longer slide. Thus making the glock 42 a much easier platform to design a reliable recoil system around.
The glock gives up a little size for much more reliability.

Luv me g42. A small gun pairs well with a small caliber. This thing shoots so much better than a p365/g43, guns that are frankly too small for 9mm. The glock 42 is my little big gun. SPN I enjoy your content, but I personally have to disagree with most of what you said here..
I pocket carry the G42 currently with a light & grip attached. Besides the slide, it does feel cheap. It does not go bang every time. I’ve had it jam on me & it does NOT chamber hollow points & Underwood defenders. It shoots them, but you can’t manually chamber them without it sticking. It’s NOT just me, there’s plenty of youtube videos on the G42 problems.
The G42 was a good test run for pocket carry, but next I’ll be going for the LCP Max, CZ P10M, FN Reflex, or a P365. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It just can’t be the ultimate pocket pistol, or even top 5 if it can’t run defensive ammo 100% of the time.

I picked up my 42 a week ago. I have shot a lcp not the max but the original it was really the only pocket pistol I have ever shot and it was unpleasant and I didn’t shoot it well but I spent a while at cabalas and checked out every little 380 they had and they had a few the glock 42 hands down felt the best to me and I couldn’t agree more that it cost a bit more but it feels a little better made. I normally carry a sub compact 9mm and for most of the year it’s what I’m carrying. But this little baby glock is going to be great for summer carry or I’m just running to the gas station real quick gun I don’t care what the internet says sometimes carrying can be uncomfortable or inconvenient we do it anyways cause better to have it and not need them need and not have but this little gun solves that for those days. And the way I see it yes it’s a little bigger then a bunch of other pocket pistol I’m wearing baggy cargo shorts so does it really matter? This would also make a wonderful backup gun. And my wife actually likes the way this one feels so we maybe getting a second one for her. I normally hate glocks I owned a 22 for a few years hated it sold it. But I’m thinking I gotta rethink the new thinner glocks cause they feel totally different.

The Glock 42 with pinky extension and 2 round extended make it same size as Glock 26 with less rounds and little less powerful

    • @spnfirearms
      @spnfirearms  Рік тому

Yes. I would even say much less powerful. It’s just more of a pocket pistol or edc with someone who stubbles with recoil, has hand/wrist issues, wants something a little thinner and lights. But the 26 is the total package

One thing, the 28 was actually first, but it was never imported into the U.S.

My first gun was a Glock 22 and my back up was a Glock 42 I wanted for walking and other things also those where my first two guns I ever owned I don’t carry either one much anymore now I carry the 43X but I am going too do some upgrades too my 42 soon and put it back in my rotation along with the Sheild plus and the GX4 and sig p365 and maybe the Glock 19 or 19x and the Ruger Max 9 or 380 good review.

I'm very positively biased to Glocks because of my upbringing. This model is an upgrade IMO specifically to the S&W Bodyguard for concealed carry. In that realm it is an upgrade in every shape way and form, no DAO, Less felt recoil, in my experience, Better available holsters and the big kahuna if you will, One can convert to 9mm Makarov if you can find the ammo, Barrel and (This is important) Polish the feed ramp and chamber. That being said build quality is your standard Glock fare and I have seen the item sold with 2 magazines. I do wish they could have crammed 7 rounds into the mag but 6 will suffice.

It’s all BS, bullets kill, period. The G42 is a fantastic weapon. The only crap I hate about 380 is the price, it’s ridiculous that it’s twice the price as 9mm when it’s really the same round. I don’t want to hear the crap it’s not a 9mm, it is, and I don’t know anyone who wants to get shot with one. Don’t be dumb.

I went to college with a cop in Las Vegas. I ended up talking to him after he got shot in the forehead by a 380. He said it was up close and the bullet entered under the skin. The bullet didn't break the skull just traveled around it under the skin. The bullet existed the back of his head. He said he had some PTSD and headaches. He was scheduled to get back on the job a few weeks later. I think it's half 380 is weak, the other half he was lucky.

If you did that to a bad guy, you would have broken contact and escaped danger, which is the point of concealed carry isn’t it.

I went to my local shop and tried a ruger 380 and Smith body gaurd, both felt super jenky and cheap and loose. I'd rather spend the extra 100 and get the glock. I already own the g42, and I love it. I'll try those other pocket rocket later but for now I recommend the g42. I'm finding out more and more I am a glock guy.
