    I should note, I use V90 cards and I use AF-C tracking.....if you use AF-S the buffer lasts a bit longer... But with AF-C tracking with a XF lens with linear motors, it craps out right around 5 seconds...

    • @SquirrelHybrid

      Maybe Fuji adding "face detected" to the file is affecting the buffer. 🤣 Can you think of any other explanation? 🤔

      Quickly doing the maths 40mpx Raw files are probably averaging 40mb ish each at lossless compressed and if your doing 10fps? that’s trying to move 400mb of data per second, note your card is rated at 300mbs. This seems like a combination of 40mpx sensor and 300mbs SD card speed bottle neck and possibly small internal buffer not helping.

    I agree with your long term review, the buffer indeed sucks but then again "the right tool for the right job" this was never advertised as a sports camera, and for portraiture, street, travel, macro and landscape photography is perfectly fine. If you need to shoot bursts of images all the time then you get yourself an a1, z9, z8, r6II, xh2, etc.

    I use my full frame Nikon's professionally, but I purchased the XT-5 for travel. I am very impressed with the image quality of this camera, but I noticed that the 40 megapixel sensor is very demanding and requires very good lenses in order to resolve detail with this sensor. The Fuji 70-300 is an excellent match for the the XT-5. The Tamron 17-70mm 2.8 is good, but not perfect with the XT-5. The tiny Sigma 18-50 2.8 works surprisingly well with the XT-5. The slow buffer doesn't bother me. It is for travel anyway. That is what my Z9 is for. I purchased the Fuji hand grip and it improves the ergonomics somewhat. I am going to purchase the 23mm F/2, but it is frequently out of stock. I enjoy your channel!

    I've been enjoying the X-T5. Coming from the X-T3 it's nice to have IBIS and a higher resolution LCD, and one new feature that people neglect to mention is that the screen pulls out towards you slightly so that the viewfinder isn't blocking the screen as much when looking down.
    One issue I do have with it is that when punching-in the white balance on the LCD drastically changes (ie. becoming very warm), and when punching-out it takes a second to readjust back to normal. But the white balance is normal when taking the picture, even if I took the picture during the "very warm" preview.

    • @Iamtongue

      Did you try turning off "Natural Live View" in Screen Settings page 2 of 4? I did that, and now I get a great representation in the viewfinder and LCD screen.

    • @SamBrownMusic
      @SamBrownMusic 6 місяців тому

      @SquirrelHybrid yes. All of the AUTO white balance will vary depending on the room. I have set a couple of customs to be a neutral, a cool, and a greenish hue for most of my shots.

  • @ismaellopez9425
    @ismaellopez9425 9 місяців тому

    Hello, I'm telling you about my situation to see if you can advise me. I work mainly as a product and event photographer, although I also make videos without using very "complex" codecs for companies and events. Until now I was using an xt3 with the 10-24, the 16-55, the 50-140, the 33 and a 27 that I use for street. It has happened to me twice in the middle of a job that the shutter got stuck and I couldn't fix it. So my question is, is it worth switching to Sony? Or is the xh2s professional enough to last for many years? The Sony system calls me the sigma lens park, the focus, the durability and that it is ff. Regarding the Fuji, I already have quite a few lenses (although they are expensive), I feel comfortable with the Fuji, but I don't feel it is as professional as the Sony. I appreciate any comments.

    I have the X-T5 and X-S20 and no kidding, the grip on the 20 is SO much better. For what it's worth I tried the JJC grip, and I never got along with it because there's a corner that's not rounded over and it dug into my palm. I've since bought the SmallRig grip and used that over a week-long vacation - MUCH better. They chamfered that corner and it was a non-issue.

You can get the full frame version with an adaptor for Fuji, but I opted for the native Fuji version of this lens. Considering what people pay for a Nikkor or Canon 135mm F2ish lens this thing is a bargain. Of course, it is heavy, and manual but you especially might appreciate it for portrait work. As far as bokeh goes on the Fuji platform, this can also create some of the blurriest backgrounds with it telephoto F2 performance. Others may opt for the 50-140 F2.8 for practicality, but the Rokinon is still the top for sheer quality.

    I love the X-T5 but the buffer is indeed not great. I get not even 2 seconds when shooting 15 fps bursts which I don't quite understand given that the X-H2 buffer lasts endlessly when using the same SD card. It's however not a deal breaker for me as I shoot 90% of the time in continuous low at 6 FPS which allows me to extend the buffer sufficiently.

    Have you used/needed the 1/180,000 shutter speed available on the electronic shutter? Seems crazy - but I have hit 1/32,000 on my camera before. On XT3 you get 42 frames at 11 fps mechanical, and at 20fps you get 42 frames. XT5 does 15fps mechanical for 22 frames and 13fps electronic yields 29 frames. Basically the XT5 with 24% more resolution gets 52% or half as many frames as the XT3. So I'd say they cranked up the file size without increasing the buffer size at all. That is a bummer. On the XT3 I rarely do more than very short high-speed bursts, but the last thing I want is WORSE performance when "upgrading". Based on your complaints, it seems like you need an XH2! But of course one that is in your hand, you'll miss the XT5's "stealth" (just like I would). This is why I can't dump the XT3 - its awesome to have a small, uncomfortable body when you are out and about. But then, slap a battery grip on and you are ready for pretty much anything. XT5 definitely should not have been crippled it could have been amazing.

    If you need a better buffer, that's what the X-H series is for, no? The X-T5 is, from what I understand, definitely geared towards the slower photographers as you say. The physical dials are also probably not the best options for sports photography. With that said - even as a concert photographer I have never needed to shoot 5 seconds continously with a high burst.

    Buffer problems? Why are you shooting sports with raw files? I've talked with several top professional sports photographers--ones who shoot NFL, MLB, Olympics, etc.--and none of them shoot raw files. They are shooting for clients that need shots immediately, i.e., the wire service doesn't have time to convert raw to JPG for publication. Try shooting JPGs only and see if the buffer is still a problem. And as others have posted, you may be able to buy faster cards, too. It is all about knowing your sport, previewing the next movement, be present of what's going on and then do a couple of photos. 3-5 should be easily enough. XT5 needs ISO 500 for DR400 - XT3/4 need ISO 640 (2-stops from base ISO). I find it more helpful for IN-CAMERA editing since you don't have enough latitude/precision for highlight or shadow boost/cut. In a few test shots I tried, I found that shooting base ISO (160) managed to yield a better result because there was less noise in the shadows. If your plan is to edit RAW files later, is seems better to keep the ISO down and the expose for the highlights. Buy IDK - both images came out looking good.

No raw, jpeg only (if you don't wanna shoot bursts of only 2 shots). Not to mention that in the film era you had only 5 sec of continuous shooting (if you had camera that was gobbling film at 5fps) that's all that you had before you had to change a film roll. That's what I had to do back in the day, and that's how I shoot those sports to this day. No raw files, jpeg only, course that will make your buffer WAY deeper. Oh yeah, you have to learn how to shoot jpeg only. For a client. Smart dude you are, shouldn't be that hard. And now tell me agin that you can't shoot sports with the X-T5...

    I think the mistake Fuji made is all this 'tier' nonsense and it's annoyed fans. The XH line is supposed to be flagship, you get the most pro features and accessory support. XH2S = stacked sensor, best video specs, battery grips, CF Express B and super EVF etc etc. Then the XT line is mid tier, you get a crummier EVF, no CF Express B, no battery grip (so many pros shooting with the XT3/4 professionally wanted stay with the XT5 but the omission of the battery grip was a deal breaker for them, they went elsewhere) 😥
    And then there is the entry level or lower tier, stuff like the XS20, but its still too expensive in some ways, garbage EVF, no WR, no dual slot. This XS20 cost me more than the XT4 and about $1kAUD more than what it's predecessor XS10 was going for. So I dunno... it all feels a bit weird and messy.
    If Fuji just made good cameras and let their user base decide on the interface they wanted that would be better imo. Imagine a XT5 with CF Express B, XH2S EVF, buffer like XH2S, battery grip support etc. People would love it! Choose a deeper grip and PASM style and flip out screen of the XH2/S or go for the XT5 analogue controls with similar support. But no...
    PS, I think the L, M and S settings for IQ is a Jpg only thing. I'm not sure you can actually get lower mega pixels from the XT5 than 40 (which might explain the zero difference to buffer). I think brands of cameras that allow this difference sized megapixels tend to make a big deal about it in marketing and I haven't seen any of that with Fuji but I might be wrong 🤷ua-cam.com/users/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f625.png
