A lot to unpack in this video. I’m gonna share my experience. TLDR is that the X-T5 is the best X-T camera. I started with Fuji at the X-T1 and have upgraded to every iteration since. The X-T1 was downright magical at the time, but the grip just slophed off quite quickly. Mine is held on by gaffer’s tape. I upgraded to the X-T2 after my X-T1’s sensor got damaged by lasers at a Mix Master Mike show. The X-T2 was/is simply amazing. It fixed the grip issues, was faster and had way less lag, and is just a wonderful camera. I shot sooooo much with that camera that by the time the X-T3 came out I had replaced the shutter and screen on the X-T2. You might think that’s a bad thing, but I shot the hell out of that camera. The screen had to be replaced because the ribbon cable broke due to how much I flipped the screen out. I wasn’t even mad about it because of how much I used it. I got the X-T3 when I shipped the 2 out for repair. The X-T3 became almost perfect after a few firmware updates. It crashed a lot at first, which was frustrating. Once it got sorted out it became a legend - I still use it as my “family/vacation” camera to this day. The only thing it missed was in-body image stabilization. So naturally when the X-T4 came out I was overjoyed… I hated it. The screen killed it for me. The size increase was understandable at the time but it was enough to change the essence of it. I still use it as my #2 for concerts and events because the image quality is impeccable, but the screen and the damn dial locks that don’t fully function make me have a love/hate relationship with it. The X-T5 though? It’s just perfect. The speed, the accuracy, the image quality, the screen, the size, the battery life. It’s just perfect. I have cracked the screen on it, so while it’s possible that it could be a “build quality” issue since this is the fastest I’ve damaged a camera, but the fact is that I do not baby these cameras. It’s scratched up a bit already ‘cause I’ve brought it into circle pits and tight crowds a LOT prior to the crack. My opinion hasn’t changed though. The X-T5 is a joy to pick up and use.
You can get thin silver paint pens, grab a rag, draw in the crack and wipe off anything on the outside of the crack straight away, you will still see it if you look closely but it won't stand out as much, had to do the same thing with my Xe4 silver (I went the black xt5 for this exact reason)
You can cutomize/set the joystick to what you want it to do when pressed. To set it press and hold the joystick for a few seconds the setting menu will open.
I have customized it but it doesn't function the same way as the XT4 and other previous cameras. They changed the custom settings and its not as good as it was.
As a Nikon user, I bought the XT5 for travel and family time. It's an excellent camera loaded with capability while being enjoyable to use. It's so much fun that it has prevented me from getting a ZF. Although the ZF has terrific low light and AF capabilities, it does not feel great in the hand like the XT5 and lacks the screen I like. My only gripe with the XT5 is the terrible paint quality. The thing scratches quite easily.
Having seen your work, no one should complain about the image quality from this camera. The images you create are truly spectacular and missing nothing in terms of detail, dynamic range, etc!
I’ve been extremely tempted by the ZF, but haven’t had an opportunity to handle one. I still may buy one to pair with my X-T5 but I just absolutely love the photos and user interface and I don’t need FF or MF for professional work.
great video and points - I am (strongly) considering the X-T5 (all my other gear is Sony). I am hoping they release it as a kit with the expected XF16-50 2.8 - 4.8 LM WR. If this happens, I am fairly certain I will do it. Your scripting on your video is great, good talking points and zero meandering or talking about your cat (or dog or whatever; no offence to them). FWIW, the laptop felt a bit in the way in the video, would have preferred it to be less prominent in the shot (just 2 cents of feedback!). Thanks for taking the time to do this video!
Thank you! I appreciate the comment and constructive criticism. I'm always looking to improve. XT5 is a great little camera. Biggest compromise is in the af and sensor size, although the 40mp sensor offers a lot to love.
I've had mine for 3 months (Picked it up from KEH in like-new condition). My only major complaint so far is the cheap antireflective coating they used on the EVF. I was shooting photos in Greece this week (warm humid summer weather but the camera was not exposed to rain salt or other environmental abuse). I started to notice what I thought was was a big oil smudge in the middle of the view finder. I went to clean it gently with a microfiber cloth, and to my dismay the coating right in the center of the EVF just came off immediately. Now I'm left with a smudgy inconsistent viewfinder and am trying to figure out what to do.. do I just try to wipe off the rest of it so I have a consistent view with no coating, or do I contact KEH and ask them to replace the EVF.... Seems like a LOT of people on reddit had this issue... Its disappointing either used such a crappy fragile coating for the XT5... either that, or their Chinese supplier cut corners..
Mate! Excellent review! I stumbled upon your channel and you do great non bs videos, keep it up 👍🏿 I do have the gfx 100 original and I totally recommend it, if weight and size isn't an issue. The files from that camera can only be compared with the Hasselblad ones. I had the gfx for a few years now and totally love it!
I just bought an x-t5 a few weeks/a month ago with the sigma 56 f/1.4. I was coming from the canon m6II with the same lens + a few others; I don't edit my photos at all, so the in body film simulations have been a great change. I'm enjoying it a lot, and am glad (and a little reassured) to hear that it is capable enough for professional work if necessary! Thanks for the review~
@@KofieBluejay great. Super sharp even when wide open. Colors on certain film simulations are eh, but overall, it’s been really great. Definitely crop able depending on what iso you’re at as well
I've been watching a lot of long term reviews on the X-T5 since I have one coming in the mail. I'm looking forward to using the camera. Since I tried and bought my GFX100S, Fujifilm is making me a believer from being a Canon shooter for 20 years. My R6 has been an amazing work horse and has been consistently great. I may upgrade it to a R3 in the future but my focus will be the X-T5 . Pete, if you are or have a GFX, and you have older, fantastic lens for different mounts, I highly recommend a Fringer adapter. I have the GFX to EF adapter for my Sigma 14-24mm f2.8, 150-600mm and my Tamron 24-70 f2.8. If you like dynamic range, it will blow you away.
Thanks man, I appreciate the tip! I've used GFX a number of times, but still haven't pulled the trigger. I know some others who use adaptors with other lenses and have heard great things too.
I had an XT3 and traded it in out of frustration with is sub par AF. Got a Canon R6, which is far beyond the old XT3.The AF is so good, they must be using extraterrestrial technology. But I miss the small size of the Fuji, especially the lenses. I primarily use my camera for travel, and Canon lenses are really big. Something like the new xf16-50 and the 70-300 would seem like an ideal kit for travel. What would I lose in IQ and percentage of shots with properly focused eyes if I went Fuji again with the XT5?
XT5 is lightyears better in AF performance than XT3, and still lightyears behind Canon LOLOL. I also shoot with an R5, AF is insanely good, the XT5 can still be frustrating at times
@@PeteCocoPhoto Thanks! I think I'll stick to my R6. The RF 24-105 f 4 is reasonably compact and light, and maybe I'll get the compact RF 70-200 f 4. Those two should make for a pretty travel able kit.
I don't care about bumps and scrapes. You should see my Leica Q2. Let's just say it's worn.... and my Fuji 100s spent two months in Alaska in and out of bags, and my truck. THAT camera, now to me, looks awesome. Well used, I don't baby gear -- I won't even talk about my original X-T1, or X-H1. As I'm headed back for some more wildlife and landscape photography for two months in 2025 I'm looking to upgrade my X-H1 with the X-T5. Thanks for the review.
Hi Pete! What autofocus settings would you recommend for sports as well as fast moving subject such as dog running towards the camera? I’m currently using xh2s and xs20, looking to improve my af settings, hope to hear from you since you do a lot of fast action sports🙏🤗 thank you in advance and great video as always! 👍🏻
Color grading is easier with more dynamic range, because when you add a grade you are adding to the shadow detail. Often I will pull the darks out of an image before grading, so I don't wind up crushing the blacks after applying the grade. With more dynamic range, you have more latitude to do this. Hope that helps!
Mine's lasted well over a year so far really well, although the power switch and the focus mode (S/C/M) both got a bit stiff recently. So I sorted that with a tiny bit of silicone lubricant (as silicone doesn't attack rubber or plastic). I've no idea what caused it, as I usually avoid dusty areas etc.
one of the best/most honest reviews ive seen. good job. i am thinking, if you need a fun cool camera and especially if you already have fuji lenses, it is a good buy. i'm also thinking the better buy in 2023 might be something like a sony full frame such as a7r3 perhaps. it is older but gets rid of almost all the quirks of the fuji. canon can be great, but i will never use them again do to the fact that they ban third party lenses. so, both companies have kinda pushed me to sony. wee will see soon when i upgrade, but i don't think it will be sticking with fuji. by now, they should have definately fixed the autofocus to match a 5 year old sony, and they should definately not have moved backwards with build quality, and, almost all their lenses are too expensive and slow focusing. they need an update. i would miss the film recipes the most.
I was a cannon shooter and felt the same so I bought the Sony a7 rlll about three years ago. Good in many ways , but I pretty much stoped taking photos (outside of work) with it and lost 80 percent of my passion for photography. It’s just to much machine and functions, it’s great to get focus on point each time, but other than that I don’t see more of it as a photographer and not a videographer. With this said, searching for a while again, I noticed I was not the only one loosing my passion with Sony, and people where talking about this Fuji xt5, so I just bought it and I’m exited to try it out, I haven’t sold my Sony yet, but will probably sell it because it’s just not for me anyways,
I have an H2s & XT5, both since they launched. I have shot an XT3 previously and 5DMKII. I find myself not liking something about the xt5 and I can't put my finger on it. there is something just off. I've been thinking about trading it in for either an XH2 or a used GFX. Any thoughts?
Not sure. I love my X-T5 but finding the right camera for you is important. Could be the size? I had an h2s for review and absolutely loved the ergonomics.
Was wondering if I should replace my XPro3 for the XT-5's higher 40MP resolution, as well as the top dials? Build quality on the XPro3 is fantastic (Dura finish on my copy). Or maybe I should see what the XPro4 has to offer? Edit: the scuff marks put me off...didn't see that before I posted.
I would say no. The XT5 does not have the same build quality as an XPro3, I think you would be disappointed in that. I would wait for the 4 to come out, I imagine it will have the new sensor.
Thanks! Yes, shooting in raw does give you control over dynamic range. My comparison was a raw file on an APS-C sensor vs. on a full frame vs. a medium format. The larger sensors have more dynamic range control.
I've found after a year that my sensor was filthy and I had to get it cleaned. I expect a bit, but I was actually surprised. I don't change lens often and as far as I know most of my lenses are WR. I think it's the worst I've seen on a camera.
Do you do a lot of outdoor shooting in bad weather? I change my lenses all the time, but haven't had this issue. Granted, much of my work is in a studio, but I often do location shoots outdoors too.
@@PeteCocoPhoto I climb. And sometimes bigger cameras come, though usually now an rx100iv. It's certainly an issue and I'm near to a good camera shop but I must say I was surprised. I don't remember that from my x-t2 and certainly not from s1r/S5.
I have a Fuji system - xt30 and several lenses. But I definitely need tethering for headshots. Should I change the system - what will be difficult or should I buy xt5?
Hi, I will be buying my first and only camera. Based on reviews I watched, I think an XT model is right for me, but the Build is subpar and the XT5 is almost halfway for another upgrade, should I wait for the next XT? This will be the only cam I can afford.
If you are not in a rush, you could wait it out! But since the 5 is only a year old it prob will be quite some time until they release a new one. Did you check out the XT4 or 3? Those are built better, and the 3 is massively popular rn
Fuji should do something very unique camera. I am waiting for Fuji X100 series with fixed lens 35mm equivalent and medium format sensor. Trend of travelling photography today is one body and one lens. Medium format fixed lens camera will be great for high quality image and compact body. And it will be easy step introduction of medium format quality to people who use only apsc or full frame.
Hi, thank you for this feedback. regarding dynamic range, have you tried the DR200? Personally on all my Fujis, this is the option I chose by default. pal2tech talks about it in one of its videos.
Excellent video 👌 totally agree with your video here. And as an owner of xt5, xt4, xh2 and gfx 50r I can state that the xh2 is definitely a lot more of a robust and professional camera than my xt5 but my xt4 seems a lot more robust than the xt5 body wise but the rotation dials feel a lot more solid on the xt5 ! Also I’m more inclined to the gfx as a pro camera where the files are amazing to work with and after using my gfx camera the files out of the xt camera feels like images that are out of my cell phone 😅. I’m really waiting for a new 50mp gfx camera to be released as I need the speed for event work so that I can switch over full time to medium format for all my work as a 50mp sensor is the sweet spot for my kind of paid work
Thank you! It would be nice to have a GFX that can keep up with event work. I'm checking out the GFX 50s II and that might be the one I go with since the price is so appealing.
Well, I have no complaints or quirks about this camera. I bought it last year, while it was the newest baby in town. "You have the X-T5? Already? At its prime price? Should have waited for the X-T6? to get a better price. Hey, I'll have to come to your house and have a look at it!!!" So, out of its box she comes, to my coffee table, and there come the ah!! and oh! from my guests. "May I.."? But, of course, go ahead and have a feel!! (Since I previously have taken off the memory card, so they can only shoot some clicks away) So, there we are, with this great conversation subject, which brings old stories about other Fuji models of yore, and how fabulous these cameras are , while we alternate biscuits and espressos. The evening ends well with empty promises about we should go out and shoot some one of these days, yeah! I know that they are hating me in their minds. No problem, I think they are suckers of the Fuji Cult. Back to the box it goes. Her performance was peerless. Yeah, it rekindles me the Leica Cult back in the silver halide days, when I bought my R4-MOT Leica equipped with Agenieux zooms. My intention was to join the local Leica Club in order to learn more about Leica from these old timers, who looked like seasoned photographers. I was admitted to their Saturday session to be introduced to the Temple. Well, yes, I went and to my surprise, when I was thinking maybe to subscribe to a workshop or to some technical jive talk, I was given a calendar of activities for the near future, such as a sugar shack supper, a walk in the city, a coffee house's taste of croissants and espresso, etc. BUT nobody was taking pictures. These were camera slingers from the red dot denomination. There's something that I've learned from these past experiences: Leica, Hasselblad, digital Olympus & Fuji cameras are not designed with the action or sports photographer in mind. They are dedicated mostly for the ARTISAN of the image: the one who doesn't shoot, but the one who MAKES images. The fast shooting gallery for warriors and sports belongs to Nikon and Canon. A year has already passed since I bought my X-T5. It might have accumulated maybe 50 shots. She's working fine. No complaints. I strongly recommend this model!
Love this! As a portrait artist, this is in part why I gravitate towards Fuji. Sure, it's no AF king like Canon or Sony, but it inspires my artistic expression, and the interface works like a camera should. Are there compromises to be made? Yes, mostly in AF but there is also less dynamic range from FF, but for the way I shoot, and subjects I capture, it is the tool I always gravitate towards.
Great video, Pete! Just want add some things I personally don't like on the XT5 comparing to XS10. Firstly, I can't use the joystick to choose the face I want to track anymore with the XT5. Secondly, with the XS10, I can press the joystick to disable temporarily the Face/Eye detection function but can't with the XT5.
I have learned and tested, to get better Dynamic range, you will need to have an ISO of 640.. the DR will go to 400% and it actually works. I dnt understand why but yeah no mud when you use it that way
Thanks for your work on this, clear, short, crisp 👍🙂 I am running my X-T5 now since a couple of months and it feels great enjoying the benefits over my previous X-T3 like longer battery life and IBIS for handheld shots. And I also like the image quality.
Hey. I am rocking my x-t5 for couple months now and I am about 10k shots in now. I realized that the shutter release button is a bit wobbly and now I am concerned that the power switch comes off. 😅 Anybody experiencing similar stuff?
Did you toss it down a flight of stairs?? 😆 Seriously though I did have one person comment that their on/off switch was loose. I haven't had this issue on mine.
Thanks for the reply. I am pretty protective with my gear, but not baby it. It never experienced any drops or something so far 😂 It’s just enough of play in the button, be be noticeable and annoying for me ^^ Nevermind. I just use it till it comes off eventually 😅
I've had the XT5 for a year, using it several times a week. Problems: Sometimes when I take a long exposure, like 5 or 10 seconds, the processing freezes for a minute or more, so that I have to turn the camera off, and the image is total garbage. Sometimes when the shutter dial is locked at the auto setting it will jump to 1/8000, which I don't realize until I've already taken the photo. Frustrating.
I use a pair for concert photography and they get flung around and thrown in and out of the bag, but I have to say they make me nervous and that screen hinge feels flimsy. I'm coming from a pair of Lumix S1s that are built like a tank. I don't think I'll keep them as it just feels like a matter of time before something breaks, I'm sorry but they do feel a little lightweight.
Great review. I rented the XH1 for a couple of jobs some years ago, and while I really liked the camera, I had the same issue you mentioned where the camera would stop working, and I’d have to turn it off, take out the battery, and then turn it back on to get it to work again. I also tried out the X100F for a personal project. I had it for about 10 days, but after about 4 days it stopped working, as it wouldn’t focus. I did enjoy using these cameras, but due to these negative experiences, I don’t think I’d want to buy a Fujifilm camera for client work. 🙁
@@PeteCocoPhoto thanks! Yes, I agree. However, I am planning on getting the X100V for use in photographing my family, and for street photography. Of course, I’m not going to pay 2k for one, as that is insane. I’ve seen used X100V’s going for $1,200-$1,500. That is a reasonable price range, given the current demand and availability.
I feel my Black XT-5 is not as scratch and scuff prone as your silver. However I feel my XT-3 has a superior coating to the XT-5. But as you, my scuffs and scratches have stories of use and creativity. Road Trips and country pond dips.
@@PeteCocoPhoto I've tried every setting I can find including factory reset. The first 5 or 6 months I owned the camera. I only used manual lenses so I didn't realize until a few months ago when I finally got some Fuji lenses. I'm guessing it's probably because I spilled stuff on the camera at some point. I just got an xh2 today and it's autofocus works fine with the shutter.
I agree with the image quality which is really good. But it's madness that the writing speed on SD cards is so slow that you have to wait for tens of seconds with the machine frozen even with V90s... terrible
I read today (11/22/2024) the following headline: Fresh Fujifilm filrmware finally gives the X-H2, X-H2s, GFX100 II autofocus and video makeovers I am disappointed the XT-5 wasn’t included as it is basically the same camera as the X-H2, albeit with a different design philosophy. Any news if this update will eventually come to the XT-5? It is the only thing that has prevented this camera from becoming a classic.
The XT5 has been my main camera since I got it about a month after they came out. It has performed flawlessly. The new Fuji silver finishes don't seem as robust as the older ones, probably green now. I have a silver X100s I bought new in 2013 and it's been around the block a few times and it's still pristine. The 40mp image sensor is fantastic and easily rivals 45+mp full frame sensors in the comparison tests I've done. Ian Worth has a great video comparing the Canon R5 to it and that was his conclusion as well for landscape work. DXO Labs raw conversions really get everything possible out of the 40mp sensor. The 16-55 2.8 is awesome. I'd love to give the GFX a try, but my Oregon Lottery Retirement Fund tickets haven't paid off yet... 🙂🙂
40MP on APSC must equate to 60MP on 35mm format? So I don't see a problem. Eye detect on a dancer in the studio 9/10 Face detect 10/10. I use 3 lenses, F2/23, the 16/80 and the 70/300 all work well enough for me on AF and resolving power. You need to be kind to your camera Pete lol.
I'm not sure exactly how the conversions and equations work. But I can tell you that there is a ton of resolution on the xt5 and it gets the job done for me. And yes, I do need to be kinder to my camera LOL.
Man if they could just get the false positives on eye af worked out I would sell my Sony kit! I love love love my xt5. Using a a7rv for weddings atm only because the eye af. Dude!! Have been thinking about going gfx 🤔🧐 Thank you for the video again ❤
I don't care much about blemishes on my camera body. I generally change bodies every 2-3 years. I shoot an average of 20 executives a week and don't really look to get much for my camera when I sell it.
The insane argument of « 40MP is too much for an APS-C sensor » is so easily verified by a simple calculus. The Sony A7RV got a 60+MP FF sensor, which is basically the same pixel density as the X-Trans 5 sensor.
OMG. Thank you for confirming the inconstancy with the AF on various lenses. The 75mm is the only lens I have that I feel confident in on eye AF, the other lenses I have are great for street/landscape/auto work. I tried using the XH2 on my HS shoots but really upset at the lack of keepers so I stopped using it unless I was in a place to use the 75mm. I do hope to add the 27mm PRO to my kit which is supposed to mirror the 75mm in AF.
My pleasure, Mike! Ironically I find that all of the Sigma, Tamron, and Viltrox lenses I've tested focus more consistently than the native Fuji lenses. They gotta work on this.
I had an X-T4 and wanted to upgrade. If the X-T5 and the X-H2 had been the same camera, I would have stayed with Fuji. I chose to switch to another system.
Had the XT5 for a year now. I was worried about the build quality given all the internet chatter but honestly I think it's an overblown concern. I've owned XT1/XT2/XH1/XPro2 cameras. I think the XT5 only takes a step back in terms of the paint quality. Other than that, it feels as solid as the rest (thought the XH1 is a beast that could crush all the others!). I was tempted to get a silver XT5 but that paint looks like it rubs off with just every day use.
@@duc_le_photography Yep, I've had the same experience. And I've don a ton of work with it in and out of my studio. The paint on the silver isn't the best but it's not an accessory for me but a tool I use for work so it's not the end of the world for me.
I've returned mine. Image quality was really amazing. Even my older lenses got a significant boost. But I could not stand the build quality to the point that it distracts my shooting. Sold my xpro2 to fund this but I felt like I bought a downgrade whilst spending a grand and a half. My dials were wiggling around worryingly, the on and off button were rattling like crazy. The shutter button felt like it was already an abused camera right out of the box. The final nail in the coffin? I got my hands on another Xpro2 and I knew, this thing is going back.
I did consider having just a replacement. But I was smiling shooting with the xpro2 and the louder shutter. It wasn't the correct move for me. Xpro4 WHEN?!!
autofocus is not reliable - it is unacceptable - that green square animation gives false positive results- how many years fuji struggels with this issue? from my own experience minimum from x-s10, and their firmware sometimes makes this case even worst,
It's really funny I fully agree with pretty much everything you said I've had my XT5 for a similar amount of time and being a landscape photographer myself. I've absolutely hammered mine but amazingly it's scratch free. Yeah and I've slipped on rocks falling in the sand and tripped over a couple of times but it's scratch free but I think I've just been very lucky in terms of my long-term review for a landscape photographer. I cannot recommend this camera highly enough and I agree with everything that Pete said you will run into some problems with dynamic range when you really try to push the files, too hard with highlight recovery. It's really funny I fully agree with pretty much everything you said I've had my XT5 for a similar amount of time and being a landscape photographer myself. For me I've tried the camera also in some other circumstances at corporate gigs, some sports stuff and general photography and I've really loved it. This is probably not your camera..... It is a photographers camera even though it does quite well in the video stakes as well. Where is the trade-off well you get a lighter body that fits in the hand really well. I would recommend putting an L bracket on this camera even if you are a portrait shooter because this will keep the camera brand-new so if you ever do want to sell it down the track, it will look shiny. There are a number of third-party brackets online at an affordable price. I've tried it with multiple lenses and the camera is great. I think it's a camera that can pretty much do everything really well it doesn't have a super strong focus in terms of what it's really excellent at it. Just does everything exceptionally well and I think that's great. Thanks for your in-depth review once again, always quality balanced. Thanks for the update I love my XT-5
Just bought an X-T5 at the end of August. Love the Silver Argent color! Paired with one of the silver XF F2 lenses it looks classy!
Yep!
You can get thin silver paint pens, grab a rag, draw in the crack and wipe off anything on the outside of the crack straight away, you will still see it if you look closely but it won't stand out as much, had to do the same thing with my Xe4 silver (I went the black xt5 for this exact reason)
It doesn't bother me enough to do that haha!
In your experience does the black hold up better in the xt-5?
In my opinion the zf feels better in the hand than an xt5
@@Nypher91 I have thoughts on that. I will share them in my comparison video.
I’ve been extremely tempted by the ZF, but haven’t had an opportunity to handle one. I still may buy one to pair with my X-T5 but I just absolutely love the photos and user interface and I don’t need FF or MF for professional work.
@@awake780 I was really impressed by it, but I'm getting flak from the Nikon fanboys for not praising it enough. 😅
great video and points - I am (strongly) considering the X-T5 (all my other gear is Sony).
I didn't have this issue but I have heard it from others. I think Keh has a warranty on their used gear - I would try that for sure.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the sub!
Thanks for watching and enjoy that awesome setup!
This lens is a blast. Using it with the X-T2, it’s a joy to have!
Does it perform well with the X-T5 resolution wise?
@@KofieBluejay great. Super sharp even when wide open. Colors on certain film simulations are eh, but overall, it’s been really great. Definitely crop able depending on what iso you’re at as well
10:15 you can change the way the joystick works, I think it’s under focus selector in the menu if you haven’t found this yet =)
Thanks! The issue is the joystick works slightly differently than on the XT4, it's not as good the way they have it set up.
Great video Pete!! 👍
Thanks Chris!
@pal2tech Can you confirm whether DR settings affect JPEGS and RAW photos?
Great review. The 35mm 1.4 is my favorite as well. I am using the X-T5 and I’ve had no issues with focusing -- but I am not doing portraits. 😊
Thanks! X-T5 & 35mm is such a wonderful combination.
Thanks for watching!
Would love to see someone comment on Fujifilm vs Canon for high ISO performance and low light.
Hi Pete! What autofocus settings would you recommend for sports as well as fast moving subject such as dog running towards the camera? I’m currently using xh2s and xs20, looking to improve my af settings, hope to hear from you since you do a lot of fast action sports🙏🤗 thank you in advance and great video as always! 👍🏻

This one might help too:
ua-cam.com/video/P9Kcnoh5rWk/v-deo.html
Thanks Pete- I don’t do any color grading, but say a bit more about the connection with that and DR. Thanks! Geoff
All great points for sure and hard to argue with.
Hi, which zoom lens would you recommend for video? Mostly interested in af speed and accuracy. Thank you!
I love the 16-55mm f/2.8. It's one of Fuji's best lenses, and focuses fast and silently.
Great review. Q: Wouldn’t shooting raw solve for the dynamic range limitations?
Thanks for the review! What mic stand are you using?
It's made by Fulaim: fulaimaudio.com/?ref=PETECOCO
I love it! Very well made.
@@PeteCocoPhoto thank you!
I still use my xt3 for work, I thought about the xt5, but the smaller size and lack of a grip pushed me away. I'm leaning towards the xh2 or xh2s.
XH2 has a great feel, deep grip, and is well-made.
@@PeteCocoPhoto do the grip on the xh2 and xh2s feel different?
@@TheOneAboveAll_ no they are physically the same
I have a Fuji system - xt30 and several lenses. But I definitely need tethering for headshots. Should I change the system - what will be difficult or should I buy xt5?
I wouldn't change anything. You should be good to go there. If you want something faster/more robust it would be the X-T5 or XH2.
Why the X-t5 and not the X-h2 for the additional buffer?
I liked the physical dials plust for portrait stuff I don't need the add'l buffer
I think a medium format with fixed lens could be to pricy
Hi, thank you for this feedback.
regarding dynamic range, have you tried the DR200?
Personally on all my Fujis, this is the option I chose by default.
pal2tech talks about it in one of its videos.
I will check it out, thanks!
If I recall correctly, the DR settings do also affect RAW files. Don’t quote me on it. Quote pal2tech instead lol.
Hey, I'll have to come to your house and have a look at it!!!"
So, out of its box she comes, to my coffee table, and there come the ah!! and oh! from my guests.
"May I.."? But, of course, go ahead and have a feel!! (Since I previously have taken off the memory card, so they can only shoot some clicks away)
So, there we are, with this great conversation subject, which brings old stories about other Fuji models of yore, and how fabulous these cameras are , while we alternate biscuits and espressos.
@@PeteCocoPhoto I unequivocally agree with you, Pete.
Compromising is one of the best ways to enjoy photography.
Keep on sharing!

I assigned a button to turn off/on face detection. Have you tried it?
Thanks! I also did the same and assigned a button for the eye detect on/off
I have learned and tested, to get better Dynamic range, you will need to have an ISO of 640.. the DR will go to 400% and it actually works. I dnt understand why but yeah no mud when you use it that way
Interesting! I will give that a try.
Hi. Do you have a squeaking noise when press down on the SD card door? I notice a lot of play on mine and it making noise when press down when close.
No, I don't have any noise or play in the door on mine.
Thanks for your work on this, clear, short, crisp 👍🙂 I am running my X-T5 now since a couple of months and it feels great enjoying the benefits over my previous X-T3 like longer battery life and IBIS for handheld shots. And I also like the image quality.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey. I am rocking my x-t5 for couple months now and I am about 10k shots in now. I realized that the shutter release button is a bit wobbly and now I am concerned that the power switch comes off. 😅
Anybody experiencing similar stuff?
Did you toss it down a flight of stairs?? 😆 Seriously though I did have one person comment that their on/off switch was loose. I haven't had this issue on mine.
Thanks for the reply.

It’s just enough of play in the button, be be noticeable and annoying for me ^^
Nevermind. I just use it till it comes off eventually 😅
@@rieggy1 Wow that sucks, sorry to hear it! Hopefully it stays on LOL
I've had the XT5 for a year, using it several times a week.
Problems:
Sometimes when I take a long exposure, like 5 or 10 seconds, the processing freezes for a minute or more, so that I have to turn the camera off, and the image is total garbage.
Sometimes when the shutter dial is locked at the auto setting it will jump to 1/8000, which I don't realize until I've already taken the photo.
Frustrating.
I've had mine freeze a couple of times when doing fast paced shooting. Never had the shutter speed thing.
Do you have long exposure NR turned on? If so, shut it off.
I get that but the screen on my canon r5 also feels flimsy. I am much more scared of that little hinge breaking haha
@@PeteCocoPhoto It might be my imagination but my memory tells me the XT-3 was better built.

Thank you! Makes sense - if I had that experience I would be going for another brand too. Sorry you didn't have a better time of it with them!
My black X-T4 is definitely more scratch resistant than the 5.
The autofocus on mine doesn't work unless I have it set to back button. Autofocus. Other than that it's a great camera
I think there is a way to disable AF from the shutter button. Look into that, it might be just a setting and nothing wrong with the camera.
@@andrewkarn9255 Wow that's crazy. Good think you are using back button focus!

I agree with the image quality which is really good. But it's madness that the writing speed on SD cards is so slow that you have to wait for tens of seconds with the machine frozen even with V90s... terrible
Yep
I read today (11/22/2024) the following headline:
Fresh Fujifilm filrmware finally gives the X-H2, X-H2s, GFX100 II autofocus and video makeovers
I am disappointed the XT-5 wasn’t included as it is basically the same camera as the X-H2, albeit with a different design philosophy.
Any news if this update will eventually come to the XT-5? It is the only thing that has prevented this camera from becoming a classic.
They said that an update is coming for XT5 as well so don't worry. Hopefully it will be soon!
Great to hear, Edward. I love my 5 as well! And I agree, it definitely holds its own against the R5. Good luck with those lottery tickets! 😆
I find the “war wounds” on any camera adds some character to them. It does not bother me a bit.
Me too. Once you've got one scratch it's like oh well
Man if they could just get the false positives on eye af worked out I would sell my Sony kit! I love love love my xt5. Using a a7rv for weddings atm only because the eye af.
Dude!! Have been thinking about going gfx 🤔🧐
Thank you for the video again ❤
Yeah man I completely agree. They just need to get the AF together already, I'm not sure what it will take LOL. But GFX is probably in my future.
I don't care much about blemishes on my camera body. I generally change bodies every 2-3 years. I shoot an average of 20 executives a week and don't really look to get much for my camera when I sell it.
I get that but most people are not changing their camera every 3 years. I know I'm not haha
@PeteCocoPhoto
The saying is that professional photographers date their cameras and marry their lenses.
I´m a pro as well- still got the problem with the on/off switch on my 2x X-T5s... To small and difficult to move....
The insane argument of « 40MP is too much for an APS-C sensor » is so easily verified by a simple calculus.
The Sony A7RV got a 60+MP FF sensor, which is basically the same pixel density as the X-Trans 5 sensor.
This is such a great point, thank you!
Those scrapes look normal. Had a couple scrapes like that on my X-T3.
I think they are also just more noticeable on the silver finish.
Do you have an X-T5? How has it held up for you?
I had an X-T4 and wanted to upgrade. If the X-T5 and the X-H2 had been the same camera, I would have stayed with Fuji. I chose to switch to another system.
I bought the nikon zf. I always loved the look of fuji but im to deep in the nikon system the zf makes more sense.
Yeah I can totally see that. The X-Pro2 is like a brick, and very well made. Thankfully nothing rattles on mine!
I did consider having just a replacement. But I was smiling shooting with the xpro2 and the louder shutter. It wasn't the correct move for me.
Xpro4 WHEN?!!
autofocus is not reliable - it is unacceptable - that green square animation gives false positive results- how many years fuji struggels with this issue? from my own experience minimum from x-s10, and their firmware sometimes makes this case even worst,
I've had a good experience with the af on my xt5. But when I use my Canon R5 im reminded of how far they have to go lol
I like your review as full of sample photos. I usually turned off watching some reviews when its just full of talking.
Thanks! I appreciate that.
I think Ryan sold Mint recently.
Merci à Panpan, Culcul et Ouin ouin.
You turned it into Fuji XT-5 Mark II
But this is easily fixed by bracketing or using ND filters. Should you need to? For me I've tried the camera also in some other circumstances at corporate gigs, some sports stuff and general photography and I've really loved it. It is interesting because I'm 53 and came from the film days so immediately I had this camera in my hand I felt comfortable, but I can understand how someone feeling new to Photography. This is probably not your camera..... It is a photographers camera even though it does quite well in the video stakes as well. But I cannot fault the image quality extremely sharp and a decent amount of dynamic range. It's no full frame but it's better than most crop sensor cameras I've used. And you don't shout LOL...ha ha pleased to all the UA-camrs out there who shout at the camera you don't need to shout. We are only 1 foot away or less.
