Thanks for the overview. I got my look at an X-T5 this past weekend. You are spot on with your comment about those of us who wear glasses loving that LCD. I also noticed a big improvement with the EVF compared to my X-T3. The only thing I think I would want is an extended grip(non battery) which I also got with my X-T3. For me it makes a big difference. Thanks again for the info, have a great weekend.

I've had xt5 for a few months now and I love it. Kept the xt3 as a backup. With this camera I don't feel any need to have full frame. I love that it does a great job with wildlife as well as people photos.

I too can’t wait for the XPRO IV. Also the X100 VI. Hoping for the announcement in early ‘24. Looking for the same sensor as the XT5. I do want IBIS too. Maybe the regular tilting screen would be OK too.

Mine's performed great. I did feel the need to put a bit of silicone lubricant (which doesn't attack plastic/rubber) in the on/off and S/C/M buttons eventually, as they got a bit stiff/scratchy despite me not being in dusty/sandy environments. Hopefully that's safe and they are behaving well again.
Like you, I love the front S/C/M focus selector.
As I use three Auto ISO groupings in almost all situations when light is decent, I'd love a future design feature to maybe add a second S/C/M style selector that I could put my Auto ISO groups in. (Currently I use a back button to jump to them and the stick to scroll between them).

Lovely review as always Kevin and Merry Christmas to you and your family! I traded my X-T4 for the X-T5 (kept my X-t2!) I appreciate your work and recently purchased the Fujifilm 18mm...love it. One last thing. I use the latest version of Lightroom Classic but for what it is worth DxO PureRAW 3 qualifies as an excellent addition to anyone using Fuji cameras. I can't recommend it enough for extracting every single drop from my Fuji files and thought I have no argument with Lightroom Classic, the files are superior from PureRAW 3...not even close. Cheers mate!

5:00 Impressive if you got any keepers in that lighting and without flash. You're a master of your craft so wouldn't expect any less!
The 1.4 aperture can come in clutch and I can vouch for the Viltrox 13mm. Barely touched my 18mm since buying the Viltrox. They're very different focal lengths but I love the distortion. Worth a review if you haven't done one already 👍

Lovely video, stunning images. For your indoor family shoots, what focal length do you prefer: the 24 or 35? I'm in the Sony system can't decide between the Sigma 24 1.4 or 35 1.4
I use and 18mm and 85mm mostly. That's around 24 and 85 in Full Frame terms.
I'm happy as well with my 2 X-T5s : just put the front button to face/eye-detection und AF-C on the fly - for fast portraits it works fantastic! (only with the new 56!) -

EDIT: I want to say I *do* appreciate your pyjamas. It lends a relaxed vibe to the video, and what makes it proffessional is hearing the experiences of a working proffesional.
No Flash :-) I use a Manfrotto Lumimuse when I have to. And yes, if an X-Pro comes with the tech of an X-T5 I'll switch no doubt.
They aren't pyjamas - just a much loved T-Shirt :)
Great outline of how good the XT-5 is, but like you I wish they would update the X-Pro line. In the Fuji camera line-up I am drawn to the XH2, simply because it fits my hands better. However, I do love the analogue dials on the XT-5. Loved the video and the fabulous example photos you included. The shot of the child running his hand under the tap water while watched by his dad will bring a lump to any parents throat. And as you always say, the emotion IS the photo.

I've been using the Wotancraft Pilot for my X-T5 and X100V for a long time now. I've been searching for the perfect bag for a long time and I've found it! The X100V fits in the detachable front pouch perfectly :) And of course I've only got good things to say about the X-T5. I've used it since a few weeks before the announcement and it's a perfect main camera. I'm still hopelessly waiting for an X-Pro4 though. Lovely images by the way :)

In about -15C one battery in Xt-3 last about 2.5 hours for about 250 shots, if I just leave the camera always on. Nice eh. So overall this video persuaded me over the Xh-2 for XT-5.

Got the Viltrox now. What a lovely beast. The XT-5 is probably where I will invest, when my good old XT-2 needs retirement. If You are happy with the XT-5 then probably most of us also will be. By the way, like the old style screen for Street, so this alone is a big plus for me.
The Viltrox is a wonderful lens for its price point.
Great video!!! How this amount of megpixels affects the performance of an old computer?.A late 2015 iMac to be precise! I´m using a fujifilm XT3 ,do you recomend to purchase the XT5 instead? How will my lenses will perform with the XT5? The lenses that I own are the Fujifilm 16 f2.8, Fujifilm 35 f2, Fujifilm 90 f2 and the Viltrox 13 f1.4.

The lenses will perform fine. I use a PC (not a Mac) and performance is blisteringly fast as I have a great machine.
Beautiful images as always. Im especially impressed since most were taken w the 18mm. I have that lens and cant get a decent shot if my life depended on it.

I chose not to buy the new 23 and got the 18 and I don't regret it at all.
Thanks for the awesome video. One issue I’m having is my xt5 gets slightly warm on the left grip, even just after 20m of turning it on. Has that been your experience?
No. Are you using 3rd party batteries - and have you checked out the heating options in the performance settings?

X100V is such a great camera - it's also with me everywhere.
What do you think about X100V for the 35mm viewpoint along with the 56mm on the X-T5 for the longer shots? For outdoor families or weddings until I can get a 2nd X-T5. I think I’d rather do a Xpro4 tho.
@@TedStrang I think the key thing for weddings is a dual card slot. I do use my X100V at weddings, but not a huge amount. My insurance now insists I use cameras with dual card slots. For everything else, I adore my X100V.

Refer to insurance matter you mentioned above, you use dual card slots to separate stills and video ? Or any other way ? like copy all images for both cards at the same if one of the cards gets broken/fail ?
I have the X-T4 and want a second Fuji body. Been flip-flopping between the X-T5 and X-H2 but I think you have convinced me to save £400 and go X-T5! (I do love the retro look!)

If you put both EVF's together side by side and tested in all conditions and all situations you use the EVF then the higher rez of the XH line is average at best, in perfect world in perfect light then the difference can be seen but in real world less is more.
Hey Kevin, great review but I gotta ask about that bag. Could I get two x-t5 bodies in there with 4 lenses and a few bits n bobs. Essentially, a two body, 4 lens wedding kit? You could even do a mini review on it, cheers.
Probably not in the 10L model I have. But they do bigger ones too. I can get a laptop, one body and a couple of lenses in mine.
Thanks for sharing…do you have any experience using the X-T5 with the Fuji 27mm F 2.8 pancake. I am considering buying the new Fuji X100V, but I am very interested in those photographers who used that pancake comparing to the X100 V (I know there will be a new version this spring)
I don't have that lens I'm afraid so can't really pass judgment. I know it sells well though and has been well received, especially by street photographer.
I'm curious why you choose APSC against fullframe lineup? your works are beyond great regardless of any camera you use. the best in youtube i have ever seen
I switched from Full Frame to APS-C as I wanted smaller (and cheaper) cameras. There isn't anything I need from FF that APS-C doesn't give me for my style of work.
Although I don't shoot Fuji anymore a discussion/debate with you about photography, cameras and lenses would be very boring cause we would agree for about 98% hehehe.
Great video with solid statements and although subjective, it's about what it can do for you.

Yea, two Xt-5s and usually the X100V or X70 in my jacket pocket.
@kevin_mullins what’s your fav af setting if your not using face and eye af. I have to say I am getting a little frustrated with the af in af-c
I use single point focus in AF-C. Set the custom setting to the one with the Leopard. Works great.

can you explain the lens debate over the 40 megapixel sensor. I have the original 56mm and the original 23mm. People are saying they are not the best for XT5. most of my other lenses are supposed to be fine with it. Will I really see a huge improvement in the newer models, I don't really want to sell the old ones
Technically the newer lenses will resolve more details on the 40mp sensor. But honestly, to the naked eye, I don't think you can tell any difference. Certainly not a consideration for me.
Wonderful photos, as always! For me, Fujifilm lost its way in, apparently, abandoning the X-Pro line.
I really hope the X-Pro hasn't been abandoned. But it does seem to be on a very long refresh cycle.

my X-T3. Still on the fence. And I was thinking of selling the X100V but now you mention you use yours for street shooting-I’m so confused and conflicted!
If the X-T3 does what you need it to, do you actually need to swap? Always worth considering that.
I'm struggling to decide between buying the XT5 (prices reduced in Europe today) or waiting for the XPro 4. I currently use the XT3, which i love, and will continue to use in the future. It comes down to body style, XT5 or XPro 4, but the price reduction announced now make the XT5 a compelling choice.
X-T5 is a superb camera and who knows how long we will wait for an X-Pro4.....

Hey Kevin...hope all is well mate... XH2s and Xh2 were an expensive mistake on my part as well. at 1st was all well with the 2s taking on more of the workload but then Fuji decided to screw with the firmware and destroy its AF accuracy which they told me is now fixed, but it is NOT. I particularly went the Xh line for its EVF which it turns out is really pretty poor compared to other cameras of the same res EVF panel, XT5 maybe less but in fact works better and is clearer to a degree. For now they can stay as they do what work I have ok but in the new year will probably trade the XH2 for an XT5 and maybe the XH2s can stay as need the slightly better higher ISO and for the small amount of video I do it is pretty dam good at that, well mostly LOL. Oh and i bloody hate the XH flippy screens
I also didn't like the view finder on the X-H2s. I was never really sure why.
@@kevin_mullins seems to fall apart very easily in low light, rez drops on af and becomes fuzzy, manual focus is also dire, if need to zoom any amount it desgrades badly, worse than the A9II i replaced the XH2s with and that EVF was much lower spec, tried all the different settings and no difference, XH2 has same issues though so its the EVF panel. XT5 is more usable. AND Fuji will not acknowledge the issue even though pointed it out to a rep at an event, sort of like dont aknowledge the AF on the XH2s is still broken after firmware 3.0.
I like my X-T5, but the screen should have been a flip screen for videos. It's a great camera, and sure is worth going from X-T4 to 5.

I've read several people saying that build quality on the T5 is inferior to the X-T3 etc. Is this the case?
Well I lost all the eye cups on my three X-T3s. Haven't lost one yet on my two X-T5s :-)

Compared to the Titanium X-Pro, yes. Compared to everything else, no.
I also shoot on a fuji, but its a big difference when shooting on a 24 1.4 (full frame) vs the 16 or 18 1.4..(Fujifilm) The fujifilm lenses dont show any type of depth of field. shooting on 1.4 and having the background still very visible sometimes irritates me😅
You wouldn't expect an APS-C camera to have the same depth of field as a Full Frame camera. It's a bit like comparing apples and oranges. Fujifilm invented the GFX for those that are desperate for that extra bit of bokeh I guess.
It's a great camera for sure. I do landscapes and formal portraits mainly, so the move up to a GFX 100S made sense, and since then, my XT5 sits on the shelf waiting for rare days when I shoot sports, animals and action. I had to sell most of my lovely XF lenses to pay for the GFX and miss them dearly (kept the 35mm f/1.4 though - can't bear to be apart from it).

I also have a GFX100S but don't really use it enough. Great camera though.

The shutterbutton of my xt5 feels a bit "loose". Not a confident press. Is that the design or maybe my copy?
No issues like that on either of my X-T5s.

I am disapointed with it on two fronts: 1. shutter blackout - I thought it was the memory card, so I bought the fastest I could afford - no change 2. big one - usability/ergonomics - some of the choices infuriate me. I guess I'll wait for x-pro4 :)
I'm not sure why you see shutter blackout - I get no perceivable one at all. But yes, I think a lot of us are waiting for an X-Pro4.
Sounds like you might have Clarity set to something other than zero.
You can always adjust that to something other than zero later in post with X RAW Studio if needed for certain shots.
@@kevin_mullins I just assume it's because of the sheer size of the RAW data (I am shooting RAW only, postprocessing in LR) and it is infuriating when in a dynamic situation where I wish to shoot 2-3 frames/s the viewfinder goes black for pretty much a second after the shot is taken - I did lost some moments because of that. Yet again - some 'new shinny thing' gizmo is enabled somewhere and I don't know what it is.
@@ytfeelslikenorthkorea I think @Mamo878 is correct. Sounds like you have clarity switched on. Or bracketing or something. There is no blackout, even when shooting at 15fps.....
@@kevin_mullins @Mamo878 a quick update. I got really frustrated with the camera and started doing 'factory reset' across multiple branches of the menu (how come there is now general reset of EVERYTHING???).The issue was caused by custom settings. As soon as I select one of the 'C' modes and modify anything, God forbid start setting up one of the X-FujiWeekly presents - camera goes bananas... So I guess I will stick with postprocessing with Lightroom for now.
Wonderful photographs, as usual. I use the XT cameras but I find it disappointing that Fuji did not make the XT5 the best it could be, no battery grip and second best EVF 🙁
I guess it comes down to them finding a good price point for the market place.

Great photos as usual. in Italy the churches are too dark and poorly illuminated. we are often forced to work at high ISO (3200/6400) with open apertures (1.4/1.2). After a couple of marriages with the 40 megapixel sensor, the limits at high ISO came out. Before I used the xt3 and xpro3, and the 6400 ISO of these corresponds to the 3200 ISO of the xt5. For the reality of shooting in Italian churches, the xt5 is a big handicap compared to xt3/4. Not to mention the storage space used by the PC to save and process thousands of wedding photos with 40 mpx instead of 26. Practically doubled. Even though I love a bit of grain and although today we can use software to reduce noise (this technology cannot be used for thousands of photos quickly, only useful for a few single photos), in the end I chose to resell the xt5 and go back to xt4. I hope that in the future Fujifilm does not want to put the 40 sensor everywhere because it is not a sensor universally suitable for every situation, but it is suitable for specific uses.
Honestly, I don't see much difference, if any, on the larger sensors for noise. In the UK we rarely have sunlight and our churches are also hundreds of years old. I've shot plenty of images on the X-T5 at 12,800 ISO and a simple tweak in Lightroom makes them absolutely fine for my style.
I'm not a fan of your pajamas, but the rest of the video was at your usual high standard.
To me, he is a respectful and artistic photographer with amazing minimalistic photographs, in any shape and any outfit :)
They aren't pyjamas - just a much loved t-shirt. Maybe I'll do my next film in my proper PJs :-)
