I once have the XT4, i couldnt stand the autofocus. Bought the A7cii, outstanding autofocus but I couldnt stand the colors. Sold it and bought an XT5. So far im happy with my decision. The autofocus is not Sony level but its enough for my needs. I really miss the Fuji colors 💪😎
Got mine last month and testing it for few weeks now alongside my x-t2 and x-t3…x-t5 is everything that me as an x-t user ever wanted…tactile feel, with improved ergonomics and handling, more battery juice, fantastic ibis, better screen and evf, boosted image quality…everything is just perfect for me…AF is more than enough for events with newer lenses, although it could always get better thorough firmwares and updates
I also like how the screen information shifts vertically when rotating the camera into portrait mode. Nikon and Leica have caught on and are now doing that. It seems like a small thing but once I got used it, I find it hard to use a camera that doesn’t have this feature.
I moved from a Canon EOS R to an X-T5 and absolutely no regrets. I think the Canon AF was slightly more sticky even on the older EOS R but the X-T5 is not far behind if at all. The latest 3.0.1 firmware promises AF improvements. I was out shooting today with the new firmware but didn't notice a big difference. I got a lot of keepers from my toddler and only very few out of focus so overall very happy. More important is the shooting experience, weight and bulk savings, and the amazing out of camera jpgs. I love this camera. I currently have the 18/1.4 and 33/1.4 LM WR lenses. Both are amazing wide open and fast to focus.
Mine arrives next week. I am switching from an XPro-1, which still today is a great Camera when it comes to imagequality and Color, but since i shoot more and more racing and wildlife its often way to Slow. Will keep her for street, nature and portrait.
I think you hit a perfectly balanced review. Thanks for being honest about the negative criticisms where others gloss over it. I think we need to voice our concerns like you said otherwise Fuji will not improve upon it. Even though I feel the XH cameras are built better and have nicer specs and features I really like the size and dials on the XT cameras
I really hope that Fuji will make the leap in AF that I want with the next series (XH3's?). I fell so in love with the system and the only thing that, in my opinion, holds the system back from really keeping up with the big boys is the AF. Imagine a Fuji XH3 with the AF of, say, a Sony Alpha 6700. That would be absolutely awesome. Above all, the liability of the autofocus when there are several targets in front of the lens kills me every now and then. If that gets fixed, fire away. then Fuji can be at the forefront
The AF test with the 33mm at around 8:06 where she walks towards and then past the camera is exactly where I have issues. It shows a green box all the time, but when reviewing at 100%, the ears or hairs are in focus, not the eyes, it’s lagging behind, regardless the settings. Are yours in focus?
Nope, never and I spoke about this in the video. It’s annoying and I don’t think future updates can fix this. They should just license out Sonys af algorithm and call it a day.
Ok, thanks for the confirmation that you experience this as well even with the super new 33mm with linear motor. Let’s see maybe tomorrow the 3.0 firmware is released. Did you experience the same issues with the X-H2S?
@@beepneldo THe Xh2s perhaps could be a bit better. I think where it shines is with fast action stuff. For what I do, i still feel like it gets the nose/hair/neck/collar bone in focus more than the eyes.
The interesting thing is that the problem almost disappears when the subject is stationary. The camera knows where the eye is and if you give it enough time, it eventually nails. But if the subject moved in the meantime, it still focuses to the outdated calculated distance. The promised update for spring 2024 mentions that it will have improved prediction algorithms for AF tracking. I hope that will improve at least a bit 🤞
I’d like someone to do the test with single point, AF-C tracking and compare results. That is more meaningful to me since I don’t find face/eye useful unless I’m working closer to the subject. Yes it would be nice to trust the face/eye AF but it overrides whatever your AF-C settings are anyway, so either the camera hits or it doesn’t and I am not convinced Fuji has poured resources into improving it. But I think the added processing power has helped AF-S and AF-C modes a lot. There is also focus priority…sometimes a good idea-XT3 slows down at times in focus priority so I know it’s lost focus. I then release the button and re-acquire. Also shut off extraneous crap like exposure preview-it sucks up processing power. Finally, for some reason, I seem to do way better when I go into CH mode-the camera tends to nail focus and of course give me like 10-20 shots. I shoot CL the most but I swear the AF misses more. BTW all AF tests are meaningless unless we know/try different lenses. They all perform a little differently.
I feel the same. So much to love, but subject eye detect AF isn't one of them. When one pays a premium for very sharp lenses, it's a shame they're let down by the camera's AF system which gives me slightly out of focus results. Single point AF works great, but it's a shame I can't depend on the subject tracking. The false positive green box thing is especially annoying.
Yes, I’ve had my XT5 for about a year now also! If you have the latest lenses with the linear motors in them, the auto focus is pretty good. Otherwise you’ll end up using limit focus a lot. So far, no problems with the XT5, where the XT4 had to send it in twice for repairs. Hopefully the XT6 will be just right for auto focus? But for street photography, I’m pretty satisfied. I actually prefer the XT5 over the pro series cameras because of the size. I’m not sure I’ll buy another pro series. I definitely did not buy the X100 VI. Too limited for my taste, although I’m sure it’s great for point and shooters. 🤙

I do high volume photos for high school bands and since I started another business, I’m leaving the shooting to my assistant now. She struggles with focus on the xt2, so these last few shoots I had her shooting at f7.1 just to nail the focus. I’d hate to start over with lenses to get the Nikon, but the FF and focus is a major factor making me want to switch. What are your thoughts on upgrading between the xt5 and ZF

Thanks for a great review. Which lens did you use the most, especially when travelling? I have the 16-80mm f4 (kit lens). I was recommended to get the 16-55 FUJI f2.8 instead but while better in low light and superb quality - it is pretty heavy. And if I only want one lens it has to be versatile, zoom, good in low light, but great quality - so what did you decide? Thanks.
I used to have 16-55 and havent used 16-80 yet, but i would choose 16-55 if we speak about image quality only. About low light, although the 16-55 has larger aperture but it doesnt have ois as 16-80.
@@Iamtongue Thanks - is this the one you mean? Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 ?. It was on my potential list of possible lenses. It doesn't have an aperture ring - I am still a bit of a beginner - is it easy enough to change the aperture using one of the dials?
Currently have the xt4 and xs20 and im super pleased with them , but i find when it comes to pro work the autofocus (although these are not noted for the best af) as well as a few quirks makes things a bit more difficult. Gonna hop on the PANASONIC S5II TRAIN !

I have an XT5and a Nikon Z8 and the Nikon, in my experience, has better autofocus. I use the XT 5 for travel and street and the Nikon for sports and landscape. The fuji autofocus has improve significantly since my last Fuji an XT3.
Im getting this tomorrow and I was surprised how light and small it is in person lol its like the same weight as my XT20 but how? I expected it to be a rock in my hand but its so light.

I don’t think I will regret it getting it now but knowing in a few months the xt-6 will be out maybe be a but bummed. Especially if it has internal nd’s. You’ve had it for a year so you got to enjoy it’s prime.
Slightly unrelated but if you’re gonna add a bunch of accessories to your X100v/VI, just buy the xt4/5. I love the way my XT5 feels in hand but I also keep my X100vi minimal, as there would just be too much crossover
@@Iamtongue tbf, you make content on this stuff and you want to show its versatility and customizability. However, I also have accessories for the VI - lens hood, thumb rest, filter. I just draw the line at small rigs and external flashes, etc.
I have xf23lm, xf56wr and xf70-300 lenses with xs10. I wont extend my fuji ecosystem until they solve af problem. If xh3 series will have a good AF, I will buy one. If not, I will sell my fuji lenses
I've had mine for about a year. I've used the XH2 more. I think in the first 6 months I preferred the XH2 and maybe that was a familiarity thing. The XT5 was a second body for events mostly, being the same sensor as the XH2 and owning 2 of the same camera was a bit boring. Despite coming from an XT2, I like the PASM dial and really appreciate the custom spots on it. I really really prefer the exposure compensation dial on the XT5 vs the XH2 though. The XT5 is my go to for street photos and personal use. The textured cover around the XH2's grip is starting to become unglued which is annoying for a 18mth old camera. I have used it a lot, but still ...
On mine, the rear command dial isn’t clicky anymore, it became very spongy to press after about 4 months in. The front one still got the tactile feel when pressing in. Anyone else experience the same?
I think i just used that button too often already. I programmed it to go into playback on the first press and the the second time I press it will go to 100% view. This became a habit to check focus almost after every shot because I don’t trust the AF.

How much better is the af of the X-H2s in comparison to the X-T5? I know it's not your type of photography but I want to upgrade for bird photography from my X-T3. I prefer the X-T line over the X-H line. What shall I buy, the X-T5 out the X-H2s?
The XH2s would be better for what you want to do. But you should check fb groups for their assessments. I’ve read some bird photographers are not happy with the hit rate
How good is XT5 compared to XH2S for sports photography/videography? I don't have the budget for XH2S right now per se, should I save for the letter or just go with XT5? I currently use the XT4, love everything about it besides the Auto Focus of course.
Great review. It’s nice to hear experiences from long term use. I just got mine in February and enjoying it a lot. I hear you about the Auto Focus. Hopefully Fuji can do something about it in the future. May I ask why you sold the X-H2S?
I've been travelling alot, and the xh2s is just too bulky to hold and pack away in my bacpack. I've been enjoying the small compact sleek cameras as of late. THe XT5, X100VI and the sony a7cii.

I was debating on the X-H2S when I bought the X-T5 because it was supposed to be better for action shots due to the CF Express card, but portability won me over. Plus I want to focus on the portrait side before getting into sports shooting. Not that the X-T5 can’t but I think you mentioned in your other videos how the buffer can fill up and I’ve experienced it. Not a big problem, I just have to be more mindful with my shots. I hear ya on the AF from other systems. I was trying to shoot my friends party with my x-h1 with mixed results. lol I mostly shoot Friends/family and travel and some animals. Animals in action can be hard to capture without good AF-c. I had a taste of the r6 so I kinda been eyeing one with the rf 100-400. I don't want to travel with two cameras though And I do like what I have right now so If only fuji can get their AF-c a bit more accurate.
Absolutely love the x-t5 but mannnnn I hate the af sometimes. I’m missing pretty key shots while doing street photography. The photos are nice but subject regularly out of focus with single point, af-s or even af-c. Really considering the Nikon ZF for my needs if I’m honest
Bro thats what im saying, it's lowkey frustrating sometimes. I have someone who had the ZF and swtiched it out for an XT5. He said ZF is too heavy for street photography, some food for thought.
Just wanted to say for street I just use back button focus with red peaking high on manual focus and I never miss a shot. It’s way faster than any AF. Leave the box in the middle, point to what you want to shoot, press the back button focus and recompose and you got your shot. Nothing is faster than that, trust me for street photography.
The Nikon is great if you don’t mind there are only two lenses for it, realistically. Once you grab a 24-70 or 70-200 or, heaven forbid, a flash, the ergonomics will be as bad as the XT5 with no way out (no battery grips)! Just sayin.
@@Iamtongue I feel like… going from small camera to bigger camera is always going to feel like that. I know people who started on a canon 60d who never thought it was too big because it was all they’ve ever known haha. I just got the ZF and I don’t think it’s heavy at all or maybe I just think it looks so retro that nobody would care about it
yup it's a thing. It does bottle neck, and starts to leg after a few seconds. I wouldn't reccomend if you're trying to shoot action. You're better off with the XH2/S
I do think your review is fairly accurate. However, as an XT-5 owner for 8 months now, I find the auto-focus very adequate. I'm not pro-photographer, but serious hobby shooter. One issue I find no one mentions... I forgot to turn off the camera after some recent shots taken. Today I find the battery dead!! Why, why can't Fuji do what Canon does and have a standby mode and then an auto power-off feature. Standby for a while with screen unlit and then off after a user configurable time period. Good thing I had a spare battery but I never had this issue with my Canon 5D IV.
Hmmm…without going to my manual I'm going to say you might want to double-check that ‘no auto-off’ because I'm sure it does. Might there be a setting for that?
Switched to Fujifilm from Canon after a year of X100v ownership (true love). Sold my Canon gear and bought an X-T5. Struggling a bit with the lenses. 16-80 is ok in the middle of the focal range, elsewhere… meh. The 10-24 a little better. Got a 16 f/2.8 which is pretty good. Hoping that pairing a Sigma 18-50 with the wee 16mm Fuji will give me the ‘portable’ landscape gear that I’ve been searching for. I stopped saving jpegs a while ago (I simply use the camera profiles in Lightroom to get started with edits) as the file sizes are starting to get ridiculous, especially if you save TIFF files after a Photoshop tweak. I think I need a summer to get the most from my X-T5 - the dark winter days here in Scotland don’t help any camera, but the X-T5 does seem more noisy than the X100v and my old Canon gear. Overall, very pleased with the handling and user experience, but the jury’s still out on image quality. Admittedly this could be as much to do with my skills when working with a more technically demanding 40+ megapixel APSC sensor.
I just switched to Sony A7IV ;) unpopular direction but maaann, autofocus is magic ;) I have small 1.8 lenses and I have to go down with clarity because it’s too sharp. Whole setup is light, weight less then xh2s with 1.4 primes.
I did the the opposite and damn do I miss the AF I‘ve always took for granted 😢 But I‘m an amateur hobbyist photographer and jpeg colors and the pleasure using the fuji won me over. But as a professional tool, 100% sony is better in my eyes.
@@beepneldo colors can be corrected / adjusted if you shoot raw. If you have focus on nose, eyelash or just button on shirt ;) I don’t see this practical. Fuji is great for street, landscapes, video and a lot of other things but in portrait it’s really frustrating ;)
@@zenstoodicorrect colors on 1,000 frames and let us know how you feel about editing for 10 times the hours you shoot! It’s true that focus misses suck, but there is such a thing as “acceptable” focus that will still look great when you make your prints. You may even learn that sometimes some softness is nice in certain photos.
Tung, you talk a lot. Is it EVER GOOD though, so refreshing I could listen to you all. Heck I think you could pretty much talk about anything & I am sure lots of folks (me for sure), would be listening. I once owned a Fuji film camera when I lived in Italy and man did I ever love the colours, that little camera rocked it hard. Unfortunately somebody ripped off my camera but that was my introduction in Fuji. I have owned M43 the Panasonic GH5 which was beast then I have moved to full-frame. Heck yeah, the AF-C sticks like clue which is so welcomed. You know what though still love that Fuji colour science and I know one day I will grab me Fuji again. Maybe the new X-T5 which should announced May 5th I heard. Thanks for your video I enjoyed it.
Yo tongue fully agree with your AF statement there. I have the xh2 and it is definitely accurate by 90% of the time but sometimes you just wanna blow it up because a very promising looking image just fell short on nailing the focus :( Would you say the xh2s nails the focus more accurately than the xt5? Like on a wedding for example, would you say the xh2s nails it?
I'm ditching mine after a love /hate relationship with it. I shoot concerts and events and tbh the build quality and AF not to mention my favourite lenses just not getting the best from the 40mp sensor started to bug me.

Jeezzzusss haha, i hear the 16-55mm is not resolving the 40MP sensor... Also why not get the Xh2s or the Xh2 for concert stuff since you came from the D850 .
@@Iamtongue Hi, I had the idea I wanted to go for stealth and a complete change of set up. The other thing I've noticed is the AF isn't great, especially face and eye detect. I'm thinking of heading back to Nikon the Z8 looks tempting, and although I'm 42 I do still love a DSLR if I'm being honest with myself, you have to work for your supper with those bad boys !
I’ve read that when some users would clean their viewfinders the coating would come off and their VF glass would get scratched. When said users were questioned, some would admit to pressing hard and others admitted to gently cleaning their VFs. Can anyone comment?
Hi Tongue thank you for the review.. it's very good! But I have a few questions about this camera: 1. Is there is any difference when you edit 40mp raw files vs 26mp raw files.. because I still use old laptop, I am afraid editing the 40mp files will be very hard on my laptop. (So far so good on 26mp files from XS10 2. How about rolling shutter from this camera? especially for video work.. is it bad or not? 3. The low light performance, is it better from 26mp camera like XS10/XT-4 or not? because I see many different opinion about 40mp sensor in fuji camera.. someone say it's better but the others say it's worse Thank you.. hope you answer my questions 😊 Currently I am using XS10 for 2 years and a half now but so tempted to upgrade to XT-5 haha 😂
1. I cannot say, I have a m1 max ever since so it works well. 2. It depends on the user, shooting 4k i havent experienced any roller shutter, I don't do crazy whips or pan. 3. The low light performance is as good as the 26 mp sensor. The XS10 is still a great camera for photography, but video specs are meh.
Higher mp cameras are better for low light, not worse. If you made very large prints out of both it would be apparent that more MP is nice to have. In terms of pixel peeping, you will be depressed UNLESS you scale the images properly-all else equal the higher mp camera will tend to look more detailed as ISO goes up. The rolling shutter of the 40 mp sensor is worse than the old 26mp sensor. It’s not a big deal unless you are panning constantly or shooting from a fast moving vehicle. File sizes are larger so indeed if you don’t really need the extra resolution consider a body with lower resolution.

@@elnandowongkar5703 I don't know what "regular" means. Chances are, if you don't see jello on your X-S10, you won't see it on an XT5. Rolling shutter is worse recording at the maximum resolutions, so if you don't do that, it helps. X-S20 might be a better choice for you if you are really worried about it and can't afford the XH2S. It is a great camera.
I'm just on vacation with my X-Pro3 and don't understand why it is so slow sometimes. Not only AF, also waking it up is worse than Nikon 10 years ago. Would a X-T5 help? Great video btw.
I wouldnt know never used an xpro 3. The XT5 did boot up faster than my S5ii which feels like an eternity when you're trying to capture a moment. Maybe fuji is making it slow on purpose through firmwares so you have to upgrade to the new cameras? Something that Apple do to get people to upgrade their phones.
A lot of people are bashing Fugi AF, especially compared to Sony and Canon. Some have described it as awful. I like so many things about Fugi but this AF issue concerns me.
Just bought one (sold my XT4). I can say, having had the T2 - T4, the build quality is just as good as the previous ones, possibly better. It feels like they "perfected" the weight to strength ratio of the magnesium alloy. Lighter weight, but clearly still as durable.
Fill your cup and pour one out on Tongue’s XH2S tombstone. 🙏 I almost got the XH2 or XT5 to compliment my XH2S but got the Sony A7R3 for photos. But man carrying two cameras on trips is like a workout for sure. Still can’t part with my XH2S ever since the rain incident in Japan. Too scared to rely on just the Sony because of the wet climates I tend to be in. 😂
Eye autofocus is a weak point. I am really hoping for an improvement via firmware. If not, I am buying Sony. I wanted to get into event photography. I need precision AF.
I have to laugh a little when I hear complaints about AF issues. I think that you are correct, but your use case goes beyond what most of us out here are doing with out cameras. Meanwhile, I'm shooting with the X-T3 and still enjoying it. The only time I've ever had AF issues was when I shot portraits like you. I did some shoots with my daughter and for a few HS graduation shoots. But, I was also using the old XF56 f1.2 with the old motors. When I shoot with the XF90 f2 it's rarely a problem. I love that lens btw! Really nice overview of this system. Have a great day!

Makes you wonder especially if the XH2 doesn't because seems most wedding shooters can use the xt-5 but they aren't going to continue to use it even if they have great success .. they will eventually buy a better af fast tracking camera, one of the most professional of specs and Fuji knows this... catch em young get them addicted and cash in at the end for most of the flocculation that is
They do have some issues, it's not best AF system out there. It also depends on what you shooot as well. When I shoot portraits, I like to tell the models to add some movement in the shot, so I would ask them to move around and spin. And in that situation it hits about 70% of the time. It's not bad but it's not the best considering sony is 95% and higher. But it all depends on your shooting situation.
@@Iamtongue I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate the reply and so much so I'm greedily gonna ask another question. The subject being encouraged to move freely is something of a better work flow in my mind, having never thought about it, it makes more sense and would create more spontaneous opportunities in a shorter amount of time. Hillywood seeded the idea the photographer was the doing all the moving and the subject only moved when instructed. I just realized I like film cameras more than photo cameras because I'm a lil lazy but luv fishing! lol Last question.. Is that the system or brand you began with? I can't afford to start out with a GFX100ii and it's inspiring seeing the pro workspace you creative around the BM system. I must admit that lidar rig makes it look more pro than any other pro I've seen and I would not bet on Sony being better from first or last impressions alone. The overall aesthetic of your rig is on point and destroys in the overall visual narrative. You so creative your system is even a work of art. If you could start over would you go the same route?
i wan planning on upgrading to the X-H2 from my X-T4 but CF express card expensive... and i am so comfortable with the X-T4 controls... I've now change my mine to upgrade to the X-T5 instead. Also I realize i don't open my screen much on the X-T4 because it is off to the side and i find it awkward to frame things when it is flipped out... Also you are so cool you have no idea xD

Do you feel that the X-H2s is too large for travel? I'm debating the X-H2s or X-H2 or X-T5 (or stick with the X-T2) ((or wait for an XPRO4)). I'm leaning toward the X-H2(s) because of the fantastic EVF but I'm concerned about size and travel.
Depends on what type of travelling you do. I find it to be big, i'm not going on epic hikes up in the mountains or anything. What I normamly do is just visit different cities, so for that the Xh2s was defitenly overkill. The XT5 works muhc better for me in this type of scenario. But the Xh2/s is amazing and the EVF is a nice feature.
Just purchased X-T5. What essential prime lens would you suggest? Main interest is landscapes, travel & street photography. Already own FF system. Just want to experience different setting especially the Fujifilm film simulations
XF 35mm F2, XF 23mm F2 or F1.4. any of the F2 lenses are good. Small compact, could be what you need. Also for landscapes i would recommend the Sigma 18-55mm F2.8
It's almost as if Fuji DOES want you to switch to Sony!! Haha! Conversely, Sony wants you you to switch to Fuji. They're not really competing hard against eachother because they're almost like husband and wife. Very intertwined at this point. They might be more connected than anyone knows. It's just interesting that Sony sells such high level sensors to Fuji. There are probably some assets that Fuji sells to Sony too. I'm going to Canon. I'm come back to you soon, Fuji! Sorry Sony, I can't stomach you :P
@@Iamtongue R3. I'm into the stacked sensor, not just for speed but low light capabilities, particularly the noise free shadows. I loved the XT1 for it's capability in shadow recovery. My XT3 paled in comparison, and I can't imagine how bad the XT5 must be. R3 will be perfect for the event photography I have coming at me this summer.
Not bad for a “built in china” camera 😊 I have no issues with a “built in china” camera but it is funny that people only started to care about that with the X100VI even though the x-t4 and x-t5 are built in china too. Come on, you have to get cool guy arm strength. You have to be able to hold any camera and a couple of beanies when it gets cold.
The fact that you said "the camera takes great pictures" I lost faith in your review. The photographer's abilities using a tool makes great photographs.

I once have the XT4, i couldnt stand the autofocus. Bought the A7cii, outstanding autofocus but I couldnt stand the colors. Sold it and bought an XT5. So far im happy with my decision. The autofocus is not Sony level but its enough for my needs. I really miss the Fuji colors 💪😎

After a while you forget about how good Sony is and just learn to use what you have, which is still pretty good.

Got mine last month and testing it for few weeks now alongside my x-t2 and x-t3…x-t5 is everything that me as an x-t user ever wanted…tactile feel, with improved ergonomics and handling, more battery juice, fantastic ibis, better screen and evf, boosted image quality…everything is just perfect for me…AF is more than enough for events with newer lenses, although it could always get better thorough firmwares and updates
Yup it’s a great upgrade 😀 and I don’t know how many updates they need to get their af right. But it’s decent enough.
I also like how the screen information shifts vertically when rotating the camera into portrait mode. Nikon and Leica have caught on and are now doing that. It seems like a small thing but once I got used it, I find it hard to use a camera that doesn’t have this feature.

My 6+ yr old GFX50s did that too.
I moved from a Canon EOS R to an X-T5 and absolutely no regrets. I think the Canon AF was slightly more sticky even on the older EOS R but the X-T5 is not far behind if at all. The latest 3.0.1 firmware promises AF improvements. I was out shooting today with the new firmware but didn't notice a big difference. I got a lot of keepers from my toddler and only very few out of focus so overall very happy. More important is the shooting experience, weight and bulk savings, and the amazing out of camera jpgs. I love this camera. I currently have the 18/1.4 and 33/1.4 LM WR lenses. Both are amazing wide open and fast to focus.
I have bought mount adapter EF FX1 now all my Canon lenses fit this camera perfectly
Mine arrives next week. I am switching from an XPro-1, which still today is a great Camera when it comes to imagequality and Color, but since i shoot more and more racing and wildlife its often way to Slow. Will keep her for street, nature and portrait.

I think we need to voice our concerns like you said otherwise Fuji will not improve upon it. Even though I feel the XH cameras are built better and have nicer specs and features I really like the size and dials on the XT cameras

I really hope that Fuji will make the leap in AF that I want with the next series (XH3's?). I fell so in love with the system and the only thing that, in my opinion, holds the system back from really keeping up with the big boys is the AF. Imagine a Fuji XH3 with the AF of, say, a Sony Alpha 6700. That would be absolutely awesome.
Above all, the liability of the autofocus when there are several targets in front of the lens kills me every now and then. If that gets fixed, fire away. then Fuji can be at the forefront
The AF test with the 33mm at around 8:06 where she walks towards and then past the camera is exactly where I have issues. It shows a green box all the time, but when reviewing at 100%, the ears or hairs are in focus, not the eyes, it’s lagging behind, regardless the settings. Are yours in focus?
Nope, never and I spoke about this in the video. It’s annoying and I don’t think future updates can fix this. They should just license out Sonys af algorithm and call it a day.
Ok, thanks for the confirmation that you experience this as well even with the super new 33mm with linear motor. Let’s see maybe tomorrow the 3.0 firmware is released. Did you experience the same issues with the X-H2S?
@@beepneldo THe Xh2s perhaps could be a bit better. I think where it shines is with fast action stuff. For what I do, i still feel like it gets the nose/hair/neck/collar bone in focus more than the eyes.
The interesting thing is that the problem almost disappears when the subject is stationary. The camera knows where the eye is and if you give it enough time, it eventually nails. But if the subject moved in the meantime, it still focuses to the outdated calculated distance. The promised update for spring 2024 mentions that it will have improved prediction algorithms for AF tracking. I hope that will improve at least a bit 🤞
I’d like someone to do the test with single point, AF-C tracking and compare results. That is more meaningful to me since I don’t find face/eye useful unless I’m working closer to the subject. Yes it would be nice to trust the face/eye AF but it overrides whatever your AF-C settings are anyway, so either the camera hits or it doesn’t and I am not convinced Fuji has poured resources into improving it. But I think the added processing power has helped AF-S and AF-C modes a lot. There is also focus priority…sometimes a good idea-XT3 slows down at times in focus priority so I know it’s lost focus. I then release the button and re-acquire. Also shut off extraneous crap like exposure preview-it sucks up processing power. Finally, for some reason, I seem to do way better when I go into CH mode-the camera tends to nail focus and of course give me like 10-20 shots. I shoot CL the most but I swear the AF misses more. BTW all AF tests are meaningless unless we know/try different lenses. They all perform a little differently.

I feel the same. So much to love, but subject eye detect AF isn't one of them. When one pays a premium for very sharp lenses, it's a shame they're let down by the camera's AF system which gives me slightly out of focus results. Single point AF works great, but it's a shame I can't depend on the subject tracking. The false positive green box thing is especially annoying.

Yes, I’ve had my XT5 for about a year now also! If you have the latest lenses with the linear motors in them, the auto focus is pretty good. Otherwise you’ll end up using limit focus a lot.
So far, no problems with the XT5, where the XT4 had to send it in twice for repairs.
Hopefully the XT6 will be just right for auto focus? But for street photography, I’m pretty satisfied.
I actually prefer the XT5 over the pro series cameras because of the size. I’m not sure I’ll buy another pro series. I definitely did not buy the X100 VI. Too limited for my taste, although I’m sure it’s great for point and shooters. 🤙
I think the xt5 is a perfect size for street photography it’s one of the reason why I like travelling with it so much. It’s inconspicuous!

I have the 16-80mm f4 (kit lens). I was recommended to get the 16-55 FUJI f2.8 instead but while better in low light and superb quality - it is pretty heavy. And if I only want one lens it has to be versatile, zoom, good in low light, but great quality - so what did you decide? Thanks.
I used to have 16-55 and havent used 16-80 yet, but i would choose 16-55 if we speak about image quality only. About low light, although the 16-55 has larger aperture but it doesnt have ois as 16-80.
check out the sigma 18-55mm F2.8 perfect for travelling, it's sharp, and pretty compact!

Currently have the xt4 and xs20 and im super pleased with them , but i find when it comes to pro work the autofocus (although these are not noted for the best af) as well as a few quirks makes things a bit more difficult. Gonna hop on the PANASONIC S5II TRAIN !

I have an XT5and a Nikon Z8 and the Nikon, in my experience, has better autofocus. I use the XT 5 for travel and street and the Nikon for sports and landscape. The fuji autofocus has improve significantly since my last Fuji an XT3.

XH2s is alot better for action. If you're shooting BURST on the XT5 you're going to run into the buffer. And that shit stutters after a few seconds.

Where did you hear the xt6 is coming out? This is news to me.. their refresh cycle is usually 3-4 years. We are probably a year and a half in.

Slightly unrelated but if you’re gonna add a bunch of accessories to your X100v/VI, just buy the xt4/5. I love the way my XT5 feels in hand but I also keep my X100vi minimal, as there would just be too much crossover

I have xf23lm, xf56wr and xf70-300 lenses with xs10. I wont extend my fuji ecosystem until they solve af problem. If xh3 series will have a good AF, I will buy one. If not, I will sell my fuji lenses

I've had mine for about a year. I've used the XH2 more. I think in the first 6 months I preferred the XH2 and maybe that was a familiarity thing.
The XT5 was a second body for events mostly, being the same sensor as the XH2 and owning 2 of the same camera was a bit boring. Despite coming from an XT2, I like the PASM dial and really appreciate the custom spots on it. I really really prefer the exposure compensation dial on the XT5 vs the XH2 though.
The XT5 is my go to for street photos and personal use. The textured cover around the XH2's grip is starting to become unglued which is annoying for a 18mth old camera. I have used it a lot, but still ...
On mine, the rear command dial isn’t clicky anymore, it became very spongy to press after about 4 months in. The front one still got the tactile feel when pressing in. Anyone else experience the same?

I think i just used that button too often already. I programmed it to go into playback on the first press and the the second time I press it will go to 100% view. This became a habit to check focus almost after every shot because I don’t trust the AF.

Haven't tried it on those lenses yet. I've tried it on the XF 35mm F1.4 & the XF 16mm F1.4, the 35mm i love, the xf16 is horrible on the 40mp sensor.

The XH2s would be better for what you want to do. But you should check fb groups for their assessments. I’ve read some bird photographers are not happy with the hit rate

The XH2s would be the camera to get. It’ll perform much better for sports. The xt5 has a shitty buffer it’ll crap out.

May I ask why you sold the X-H2S?
I've been travelling alot, and the xh2s is just too bulky to hold and pack away in my bacpack. I've been enjoying the small compact sleek cameras as of late. THe XT5, X100VI and the sony a7cii.

I was debating on the X-H2S when I bought the X-T5 because it was supposed to be better for action shots due to the CF Express card, but portability won me over. Plus I want to focus on the portrait side before getting into sports shooting. Not that the X-T5 can’t but I think you mentioned in your other videos how the buffer can fill up and I’ve experienced it. Not a big problem, I just have to be more mindful with my shots. I hear ya on the AF from other systems. I was trying to shoot my friends party with my x-h1 with mixed results. lol I mostly shoot Friends/family and travel and some animals. Animals in action can be hard to capture without good AF-c. I had a taste of the r6 so I kinda been eyeing one with the rf 100-400. I don't want to travel with two cameras though And I do like what I have right now so If only fuji can get their AF-c a bit more accurate.
fuji has many compact and great f2 and f1.4 18-35mm (lm 18,23,33), compact (23,30,35,50) for 50 and above, just get adapted dslr lens.

Absolutely love the x-t5 but mannnnn I hate the af sometimes. I’m missing pretty key shots while doing street photography. The photos are nice but subject regularly out of focus with single point, af-s or even af-c. Really considering the Nikon ZF for my needs if I’m honest
Bro thats what im saying, it's lowkey frustrating sometimes. I have someone who had the ZF and swtiched it out for an XT5. He said ZF is too heavy for street photography, some food for thought.
It can be so frustrating at times! I almost sent it to repair center because I thought mine must have a malfunctioning phase detection sensor 😂
Just wanted to say for street I just use back button focus with red peaking high on manual focus and I never miss a shot. It’s way faster than any AF. Leave the box in the middle, point to what you want to shoot, press the back button focus and recompose and you got your shot. Nothing is faster than that, trust me for street photography.
The Nikon is great if you don’t mind there are only two lenses for it, realistically. Once you grab a 24-70 or 70-200 or, heaven forbid, a flash, the ergonomics will be as bad as the XT5 with no way out (no battery grips)! Just sayin.

I know people who started on a canon 60d who never thought it was too big because it was all they’ve ever known haha. I just got the ZF and I don’t think it’s heavy at all or maybe I just think it looks so retro that nobody would care about it

yup it's a thing. It does bottle neck, and starts to leg after a few seconds. I wouldn't reccomend if you're trying to shoot action. You're better off with the XH2/S
I do think your review is fairly accurate. However, as an XT-5 owner for 8 months now, I find the auto-focus very adequate. I'm not pro-photographer, but serious hobby shooter. One issue I find no one mentions... I forgot to turn off the camera after some recent shots taken. Today I find the battery dead!! Why, why can't Fuji do what Canon does and have a standby mode and then an auto power-off feature. Standby for a while with screen unlit and then off after a user configurable time period. Good thing I had a spare battery but I never had this issue with my Canon 5D IV.
Hmmm…without going to my manual I'm going to say you might want to double-check that ‘no auto-off’ because I'm sure it does. Might there be a setting for that?
You are right. I went into settings and found it set to torn off after 2 minutes. So I have no idea why my battery was dead.
What lenses did you bring with you to Italy?
XF 18-120mm F4 PZ and the XF 33mm F1.4
Switched to Fujifilm from Canon after a year of X100v ownership (true love). Sold my Canon gear and bought an X-T5. Struggling a bit with the lenses. 16-80 is ok in the middle of the focal range, elsewhere… meh. The 10-24 a little better. Got a 16 f/2.8 which is pretty good. Hoping that pairing a Sigma 18-50 with the wee 16mm Fuji will give me the ‘portable’ landscape gear that I’ve been searching for. I stopped saving jpegs a while ago (I simply use the camera profiles in Lightroom to get started with edits) as the file sizes are starting to get ridiculous, especially if you save TIFF files after a Photoshop tweak. I think I need a summer to get the most from my X-T5 - the dark winter days here in Scotland don’t help any camera, but the X-T5 does seem more noisy than the X100v and my old Canon gear. Overall, very pleased with the handling and user experience, but the jury’s still out on image quality. Admittedly this could be as much to do with my skills when working with a more technically demanding 40+ megapixel APSC sensor.
I can wholeheartedly recommend the sigma 18-50mm perfect for travel landscape photography if you're looking to shed some weight!

I just switched to Sony A7IV ;) unpopular direction but maaann, autofocus is magic ;) I have small 1.8 lenses and I have to go down with clarity because it’s too sharp. Whole setup is light, weight less then xh2s with 1.4 primes.
I did the the opposite and damn do I miss the AF I‘ve always took for granted 😢 But I‘m an amateur hobbyist photographer and jpeg colors and the pleasure using the fuji won me over. But as a professional tool, 100% sony is better in my eyes.
THe autofocus is nice, but how do you feel about the SONY COLORS? haha

@@beepneldo colors can be corrected / adjusted if you shoot raw. If you have focus on nose, eyelash or just button on shirt ;) I don’t see this practical. Fuji is great for street, landscapes, video and a lot of other things but in portrait it’s really frustrating ;)
@@zenstoodicorrect colors on 1,000 frames and let us know how you feel about editing for 10 times the hours you shoot! It’s true that focus misses suck, but there is such a thing as “acceptable” focus that will still look great when you make your prints. You may even learn that sometimes some softness is nice in certain photos.

I once owned a Fuji film camera when I lived in Italy and man did I ever love the colours, that little camera rocked it hard. Unfortunately somebody ripped off my camera but that was my introduction in Fuji. I have owned M43 the Panasonic GH5 which was beast then I have moved to full-frame. Heck yeah, the AF-C sticks like clue which is so welcomed. You know what though still love that Fuji colour science and I know one day I will grab me Fuji again. Maybe the new X-T5 which should announced May 5th I heard.

Yo tongue fully agree with your AF statement there. I have the xh2 and it is definitely accurate by 90% of the time but sometimes you just wanna blow it up because a very promising looking image just fell short on nailing the focus :(

No, I feel the xh2s still runs into that issue. I think it's alot better at tracking and photographing action than it is hunting down a person's IRIS.
I'm ditching mine after a love /hate relationship with it. I shoot concerts and events and tbh the build quality and AF not to mention my favourite lenses just not getting the best from the 40mp sensor started to bug me.

I’ve read that when some users would clean their viewfinders the coating would come off and their VF glass would get scratched. When said users were questioned, some would admit to pressing hard and others admitted to gently cleaning their VFs. Can anyone comment?

Currently I am using XS10 for 2 years and a half now but so tempted to upgrade to XT-5 haha 😂
1. I cannot say, I have a m1 max ever since so it works well.
2. It depends on the user, shooting 4k i havent experienced any roller shutter, I don't do crazy whips or pan.
3. The low light performance is as good as the 26 mp sensor.
The XS10 is still a great camera for photography, but video specs are meh.
Higher mp cameras are better for low light, not worse. If you made very large prints out of both it would be apparent that more MP is nice to have. In terms of pixel peeping, you will be depressed UNLESS you scale the images properly-all else equal the higher mp camera will tend to look more detailed as ISO goes up. The rolling shutter of the 40 mp sensor is worse than the old 26mp sensor. It’s not a big deal unless you are panning constantly or shooting from a fast moving vehicle. File sizes are larger so indeed if you don’t really need the extra resolution consider a body with lower resolution.

@@elnandowongkar5703 I don't know what "regular" means. Chances are, if you don't see jello on your X-S10, you won't see it on an XT5. Rolling shutter is worse recording at the maximum resolutions, so if you don't do that, it helps. X-S20 might be a better choice for you if you are really worried about it and can't afford the XH2S. It is a great camera.

I'm just on vacation with my X-Pro3 and don't understand why it is so slow sometimes. Not only AF, also waking it up is worse than Nikon 10 years ago. Would a X-T5 help? Great video btw.
I wouldnt know never used an xpro 3. The XT5 did boot up faster than my S5ii which feels like an eternity when you're trying to capture a moment. Maybe fuji is making it slow on purpose through firmwares so you have to upgrade to the new cameras? Something that Apple do to get people to upgrade their phones.

A lot of people are bashing Fugi AF, especially compared to Sony and Canon. Some have described it as awful. I like so many things about Fugi but this AF issue concerns me.
Even with the latest firmware, the autofocus is still poor. Very frustrating!!!

Just bought one (sold my XT4). I can say, having had the T2 - T4, the build quality is just as good as the previous ones, possibly better. It feels like they "perfected" the weight to strength ratio of the magnesium alloy. Lighter weight, but clearly still as durable.
You may be on to something with this take.

But man carrying two cameras on trips is like a workout for sure. Still can’t part with my XH2S ever since the rain incident in Japan. I have to laugh a little when I hear complaints about AF issues. I think that you are correct, but your use case goes beyond what most of us out here are doing with out cameras. Meanwhile, I'm shooting with the X-T3 and still enjoying it. The only time I've ever had AF issues was when I shot portraits like you. I did some shoots with my daughter and for a few HS graduation shoots. But, I was also using the old XF56 f1.2 with the old motors. When I shoot with the XF90 f2 it's rarely a problem. Do all of the X series shooters have af fast tracking isses even say the XH2? Makes you wonder especially if the XH2 doesn't because seems most wedding shooters can use the xt-5 but they aren't going to continue to use it even if they have great success .. they will eventually buy a better af fast tracking camera, one of the most professional of specs and Fuji knows this... catch em young get them addicted and cash in at the end for most of the flocculation that is
They do have some issues, it's not best AF system out there. It also depends on what you shooot as well. When I shoot portraits, I like to tell the models to add some movement in the shot, so I would ask them to move around and spin. And in that situation it hits about 70% of the time. It's not bad but it's not the best considering sony is 95% and higher. But it all depends on your shooting situation.

The subject being encouraged to move freely is something of a better work flow in my mind, having never thought about it, it makes more sense and would create more spontaneous opportunities in a shorter amount of time. Hillywood seeded the idea the photographer was the doing all the moving and the subject only moved when instructed. I just realized I like film cameras more than photo cameras because I'm a lil lazy but luv fishing! lol
Last question.. Is that the system or brand you began with? I can't afford to start out with a GFX100ii and it's inspiring seeing the pro workspace you creative around the BM system. I must admit that lidar rig makes it look more pro than any other pro I've seen and I would not bet on Sony being better from first or last impressions alone. The overall aesthetic of your rig is on point and destroys in the overall visual narrative. You so creative your system is even a work of art. If you could start over would you go the same route?
i wan planning on upgrading to the X-H2 from my X-T4 but CF express card expensive... and i am so comfortable with the X-T4 controls... I've now change my mine to upgrade to the X-T5 instead. Also I realize i don't open my screen much on the X-T4 because it is off to the side and i find it awkward to frame things when it is flipped out...

Do you feel that the X-H2s is too large for travel? I'm debating the X-H2s or X-H2 or X-T5 (or stick with the X-T2) ((or wait for an XPRO4)). I'm leaning toward the X-H2(s) because of the fantastic EVF but I'm concerned about size and travel.
Depends on what type of travelling you do. I find it to be big, i'm not going on epic hikes up in the mountains or anything. What I normamly do is just visit different cities, so for that the Xh2s was defitenly overkill. The XT5 works muhc better for me in this type of scenario. But the Xh2/s is amazing and the EVF is a nice feature.
Just purchased X-T5. What essential prime lens would you suggest? Main interest is landscapes, travel & street photography. Already own FF system. Just want to experience different setting especially the Fujifilm film simulations
XF 35mm F2, XF 23mm F2 or F1.4. any of the F2 lenses are good. Small compact, could be what you need. Also for landscapes i would recommend the Sigma 18-55mm F2.8

It's almost as if Fuji DOES want you to switch to Sony!! Haha! Conversely, Sony wants you you to switch to Fuji. They're not really competing hard against eachother because they're almost like husband and wife. Very intertwined at this point. They might be more connected than anyone knows. It's just interesting that Sony sells such high level sensors to Fuji. There are probably some assets that Fuji sells to Sony too.

@@Iamtongue R3. I'm into the stacked sensor, not just for speed but low light capabilities, particularly the noise free shadows. I loved the XT1 for it's capability in shadow recovery. My XT3 paled in comparison, and I can't imagine how bad the XT5 must be.
R3 will be perfect for the event photography I have coming at me this summer.
