    😍 I just discovered your videos and I swear I’ve watched 10 videos today. I sort of did a curly girl method several years ago and it was not terrible but I wasn’t impressed enough to keep it going. I have had dreads for 2 years now and finally cut all of my hair off about 2 month ago. I decided then to go blonde, on my extremely dark hair 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ That only lasted until my hair started to grow and show my dark new growth and I gave up and went back to natural. Now only the very ends are really damaged and I’ve decided to go back to my natural dark curls. I’ve had every color in the book, red, blue, purple, orange, turquoise, you name it! I’ve been straightening since I was 12 because my mother never knew how to properly care for my curly hair. She only braided it extremely tight and left it for days, washed it, and started over. Now I’m dying to see what my natural looks like when properly cares for. I almost tried the “cgm” again until I came across your videos! You have saved me a lot of trouble and heartache I’m sure! Now I can’t wait to see how this curly pixie cut grows out!!

      debbie cameron then get affordable products for your own hair? Why would she waste money buying extra products just to use for videos when she likes what she uses lol? Use google if you’re trying to find product reviews or youtube affordable products. Besides as another hairstylist I can tell you there is not one drugstore product I would ever recommend except a specific dry shampoo. You don’t have to use exactly everything someone on youtube does not to mention everyone has different hair and needs different things

      My first order of Maui Moisture is arriving in two days. I got the "Curl Quench" line (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in milk, curling smoothie). If it works as well as Shea Moisture, I'll be quite happy, as will my bank account. ($6-7 for 13 oz. is _much_ better than DevaCurl, etc., prices!) I think I saw at least 3-4 different lines by Maui Moisture. After researching them, I'm under the impression that the Curl Quench line would be best for my hair type (fine, constantly dry yet scalp that quickly gets oily, 2b/2c/3a mixture). There's SO MUCH information and so many different products out there, I hope I was right! 😂

      Princess Pea Did you like the products? My hair hates Maui Moisture, I’m pretty sure it’s because most of their products have aloe Vera as the first ingredient (my hair doesn’t do the best with aloe Vera or coconut oil high on the ingredient list). The conditioner felt like I used a harsh shampoo on my hair, it left it dry, tangled, and frizzy. It’s unfortunate because their products smell delicious!

    • @Katatawnic
      @Katatawnic 5 років тому

      @@ImNotCallingYouALiar I've used it three times, and really love it so far. The curl smoothie is too heavy for my hair, so I'm not using that anymore. (It's perfect for my son's hair, though, so he's taking it from me, as he's starting to grow out his extremely curly hair and needs to fight frizz again.) I'm using the shampoo, conditioner, leave-in milk, and Shea Moisture leave-in conditioner (which weighs much less than the Maui curl smoothie). It's been moisturizing my hair and scalp, yet my scalp is not more oily. So far I'm happy with it, but time will tell; some products don't pass the longevity test.

My favorite is the flex hold, but they have other types too. I’ve been using it in place of gel before diffusing since it has heat protection. It is SO light and the spray is so fine. It also doesn’t have an offensive smell in my opinion. I highly recommend.

    Just starting, I have S’Wavy Wavy hair. I picked up Avalon Organics Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner from Costco. I put a couple pumps of the conditioner in my large mister bottle so I could have a leave in then finish with LA Looks Sport. Trying to figure this out before huge investments.

    I've learned so much from you in the last few weeks, Mell! 37 year old CG here with fine, thin hair. After washing or rewetting I use Skyorganics Bouncy Curl cream and DevaCurl ultra defining gel (this one is WAY better than the one I used in the 90s 🤣). I think the curl cream is too heavy for my thin hair but I love the definition I get. Any advice for thickening hair? I might need to get some prenatal vitamins bc I've lost hair since having kids. Thanks for all the info!

    Love this! Quick question. I noticed that you didn’t necessarily define your hair with your denman brush like I’ve seen in your other videos. I have the same hair type as you. I noticed that you brushed down instead of side to side and up for the top part of your hair. Does it make a difference (final results in looks) from what you did here to what you’ve done in your other videos?

Not to mention my son is biracial and also has very curly hair but it is a completely different ball game. My hair is fine and soft and his hair is very thick and coarse. I'm about to jump on a plane and go to mels salon 🤣🤣🤣

      Most gel products contain alcohol, which can dry out your hair, but as long as you use the prep products that she mentioned, you should be okay.

    • @dreambrush7251
      @dreambrush7251 2 роки тому

      as long as you prep with a leave-in, that should protect the hair from the drying effects of gel, I personally use mousse cause it's lighter for my fine hair.

Then she showed me your channel where she figured out how to care for her curly hair, she also said you were funny, here I am rn watching your vids lol.

    Heloooo! It's my first comment for you, and I have to say I really enjoy watching your videos! I definitely learn a lot, while well, having fun. Don't mean to offend anybody, but some of the videos about curly hair are just... boring. But not yours!
    I have 3a/b and I miss definition... also fighting with frizz :/ My hair also need good hair stylist - why do you live sooo faaar awaaay....
    I've noticed my hair love leave in and I'm searching for a perfect product. Right now I use for example garnier hair food aloe or papaya/ grandmother (babuszka) Agafia yeast mask/ petal fresh grape. I have two hair gels - sayoss man power hold and blue taft but it's still not perfect...Probably most of those things are not known in your country, but here in Europe it's aslo not always easy to find yours :/
    Still gotta love those curls!

    What I use: A random combination of products that hair stylist promised me would tame my frizz but never does.
    What order do I use it in: Randomly until the product is gone because it doesn't work but I paid for it, so I can't throw it out.
    Why: I don't know. I'm so lost. Am here now; hopefully this channel changes my life.

    Mel, number one I absolutely LOVE your channel! It's different from all other curly experts channel in that you explain everything WELL! My hair is similar to yours but it's much denser.... and that so far has been a curse! This is the first year I have gone natural, I'm 50 years old and what a learning curve it's been! I'm guessing when I gets longer the thickness shouldn't be a problem any more, but for now I'm looking like an older hooker! No joke! :( Its just too big.... anyway, here is my question, I USED to use curl creams on top of a moisturizer or leave in, but I'm finding that when I use just a good moisturizer, with a gel on top my curls lay a bit better, the FRO seems to be under control I mean, again without a curl cream... why is that? Like you said curl creams are supposed to define the curl, but with me, it seems to tighten them up.... I really didn't aspire to become the happy hooker at 50, so I have deleted the curl creams all together..... the gels define my curls, and the leave in moisturizes, but at some point during the day, usually late afternoon early evening I find I have to wet my hair and apply more product, almost like a do over but not really.... is there a curl cream you can recommend that won't tighten up my curls that WILL last so I don't have to redo or refresh by late day, also I am still trying to get to day 2 and 3 hair, but so far no luck, I have to co wash every morning and do it all again, or once again my hair starts to fro.... any advice would be so appreciated.... also, you might want to try Amika, Touchable hair spray, it's really nice.... it's doesn't dry out your hair and gives you that little bit of extra hold so you don't have to use a pick..... just shake and spray and poof your done.... thanks Mel!

    • @ManesByMell
      @ManesByMell  5 років тому +1

      Hey Lisa! youre killing me with the happy hooker comment lol. Actually curl creams are supposed to enhance curl while also defining. Youre having to reapply product along the way because youre just not putting enough. I suggest you try DevaCurl Super Stretch cream, it elongated the curl while is super hydrating! Good luck on your journey xoxo

    I love your videos!! You definitely got me into really taking care of my curls! I now use deva curl no poo and one condition in the shower, when I get out I make sure I have my spray bottle and I start with my Cantu moose and I use deva curl super cream and then I usually diffuse my hair and put in like a serum! After watching this video I definitely need some more products 🤪

    I'm brand new to the curly/wavy hair journey. I'm putting my flat iron and hot air brush away and going for it! This playlist was recommended at r/curlyhair and it's super helpful. Thank you!
    Question- this is a ton of product! My hair tends to get very wet/greasy looking when I am over moisturized or have product in. In fact, before this curly journey, I never used any product to style - only heat. How can I tailor this to what my hair needs and still have defined waves/curls?

    Thank you so much for this video! I have definitely seen a huge improvement by doing leave in + curl cream + gel. However my hair seems to absorb all the gel and it does never make a cast. This leads me to start having frizz right at day 1! How can I achieve a cast ? Thanks a lot !
