The 'Original' Prell® was the Second 'Synthetic' Detergent Shampoo made by Proctor & Gamble the first was 'Drene' a liquid shampoo which was NOT a 'Soap' which made a "Soap Scum" in hard water. Prell® was a CLEAR, Green Gel in a yellow Metal Tube and had a "Flash Foam" Formula with clean rinsing action. In 1955 they introduced Liquid Prell® a Clear, Green,THICK, Liquid with the consistency of honey which could be poured directly into the hand as opposed to the watery liquids at the time which often needed to be diluted with a quantity of water and poured onto dry or damp hair or thick, sticky Creme or 'Lotion' shampoos which were still either Soap or loaded with lanolin that left hair 'Oily' or 'Soap Scum' Sticky after rinsing, requiring a very long rinse or Vinegar or Lemon Rinse after. Prell® has survived because it does ONE THING really well: It gets your hair CLEAN and unless your hair is Very Dry or Damaged, it leaves it Smooth, Soft and Shiny. Still the one of the best shampoos you can buy.
Used to use daily as a greasy teenager. As I have gotten older with drier skin I still keep a bottle around. Great for washing hair and body after a hot day of sweaty greasy work. Great for greasy mechanic arms and face, does not irritate skin like some harsh soaps. Still use a couple times a week.
I'm glad you addressed the clarifying/product build up. I was looking for an inexpensive clarifying shampoo and my local walmart is always out of the suave daily clarifying, which works pretty well. Thanks for the review.
I use prell! It cleans, smells great and leaves my hair soft! I love the fact that it cleans so efficiently without stripping the natural moisture and oils in my hair! The conditioner Prell makes is also great! However I can only find the conditioner at Bed, Bath and Beyond, the shampoo I can find at any grocery store no problem!
I'm glad you like the smell but it has been changed several times through the years as well as the formula, the current fragrance is very much like the concentrate from the 1970's and smells a little like Dish Detergent. The original LIQUID PRELL had a sweeter, more 'Floral' fragrance. I have an unopened /unused, 'Personal Size' (1.5 Oz.) in the glass bottle from about 1960 and the fragrance is still fresh and strong.
I have always loved prell. Started using it in Jr. High and I'm 69 now and it still works great. I'm glad they have made a conditioner and it smells ahhhhh just like the shampoo... What a wonderful smell. 🥰
One of the great secrets for great hair is to wash your hair once a week with a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup that makes your hair flat (and use regular shampoo for general cleansing the rest of the week), and to use a clarifying shampoo before coloring your hair to remove any buildup that’ll cause the color to not take. For people on a budget, Prell is the ultimate clarifying shampoo.
I love this shampoo . It brings back such nice memories. I wish they made a sulfate-free version with the same great scent. I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
I was looking for a shampoo with ammonium sulphate for clarifying, and it appeared Prell fit the bill. But the current Prell web site shows they now use sodium sulphate. I wonder why most sulphate shampoos are now following this trend.

I use prell because it’s cheap but it honestly is the only shampoo that makes my hair feel really soft. I also use it as a face and body wash
This reminds me of a quote from Seinfeld- jerry: “I use Prell... the hard stuff!”

I hope they never change the formula.

Thank you Beautiful friend..

Amm. Sodium is used in fertilizer, Sod. sulphate is less toxic I assume that is the reason for reformulation of the shampoo.
This stuff still smells so great. Always wish that it was also made into a body spray!
The way it cleanses the hair is magical. It is getting more difficult to find in stores. The smell is so distinct.
@@realbeautifulbeauty1556 I do still see it at Walmart and in some pharmacies. But that's it.
I've only seen the green Prell shampoo. Is there a clear formula now?
The bottle on the left is just empty.. It only comes in the green formula...
Where can I buy Prell?
Amazon
Wal-Mart carries it
Used to be a great shampoo they have watered it down recently
How i can get the Shampo?
Amazon
Last bottle I bought didn't lather for nothing. That was the hallmark of Prell.
What a shame, I know it is becoming rare so I wonder if they water it down or change formulation for this to happen.. Sorry
Still thick but it absolutely did not lather.
Ohhh plerr
