I remember being fascinated as a small child by the TV ads for Prell in the early '60s. They would drop a pearl into the glass bottle of green Prell which would very slowly sink, to show how rich the shampoo was.
GhostlyImage OfFear I loved the way prell would make your hair smell. Even days later. Used to use dippty do to set my hair when I would braid my hair over night. Take the braids out in the morning and have amazing curls
Fun fact about Prell: due to its high alkalinity it can actually perm hair. Reference: I am a licensed professional cosmetologist and did this as an experiment in beauty school when we were studying the chemical process of perms. Prell is definitely not as strong as actual perm solution, but when applied to wrapped hair, processed, and neutralized - it will “permanently” although mildly change the shape of the hair.
Judy Wood-Stockrahm perm solution/ Prell will actually lighten your hair! If your hair is naturally dark in color, it could have definitely exposed your underlying red pigments.

Loved the original herbal essence smell also. I would then use long and silky conditioner for my long straight hair in the 70's. That came in a turquoise colored bottle.

Jade Strawberry That’s what I thought too about the barcode. Probably back in 70s they still used the same package for Prell shampoo they used back in the 50s

I remember using Prell as a kid in the mid-80's and it looked very similar to her bottle, but with a slightly different label. I wonder if it could be early 80's?

These hairbrushes are so good to the hair and make the hair look so neat and shiny. People have used these hairbrushes for decades, and they are still available on Amazon for a little less than $30.00. Also, do you agree that Prell smells very similar to White Shoulders?
I think they used to sell them on QVC. And I believe there's cleaning items also. There was one you could clean out the filter area in a dryer and and a longer one that could reach under fridges and other appliances and furniture. They're like a long bristley baby bottle brush basically. I have a couple different sizes of them from a different brand. They're great. Especially when you are a kitty rescuer. 😅

I grew up in the 50s. My mother used a conditioner/detangler called Tame, and it was fantastic. She also used VitaFluff shampoo (not sure of the spelling anymore); it came in a jar, not a bottle, because it was THICK; you had to scoop it out with your hand. I remember loving the smell! Even if you can still buy these products, they are not the same. These companies have changed formulas.
@@cattycorner8...My guess is that it has something to do with money. Just like A LOT of products I grew up with are no longer fit. Baby Ruth candy bars come to mind. I grew up with the SAME TOASTER my entire life. I could go one but won't!

My mom used VitaPointe hairdresser on my sisters and I. It is very inexpensive at beauty supply stores. Its formula has changed but it still a good product.
What a lovely distraction these videos are! i still use prell shampoo. We had it when I was a little girl as well. the last time I used the hairspray you showed was about a year ago when we were in France. I had forgotten my travel size hairspray and was able to buy a small can of it in a pharmacy. I haven’t used that brand in years but it was familiar to me so I grabbed it!🧴
I remember Prell (very green shampoo) and the smell was amazing! But be careful using it, my friend's sister-in law dyed her hair blonde (years ago) and then sometime later shampooed her hair using Prell and her hair turned green! LOL Also, I remember Dippity-do!
I noticed that your vintage style Prell bottle that you believe is from the 1950s actually has a barcode on the back label. From what I remember, it’s been about 10 years since I was in school for Graphic Design, but if I do remember correctly barcodes didn’t come into common use until the mid 1970s. So anything with a barcode likely isn’t older than that. 🤷♀️ ... Btw, I love your videos, especially the ones like these where you show vintage products still available today. Thank you for helping others to connect with the past and our elders in a tangible way. It’s always cool to see pictures of the products they used, but actually being able to use them yourself is like stepping back in time, if only for a moment. So thanks again for helping facilitate those little magical time travel moments. 💗
I think Palmer's is a vintage brand as well. I remember my US-based aunt basically smuggling Palmers, Queen Helene and Noxzema creams to bring home to relatives.
I still use Prell today and I love it!! I work in a factory so Prell helps clean my hair and scalp from all the sweat and dirt. It also prevents my neck from breaking out on my hair line
My aunt Rosella used to always have Prell in her shower. This was in 1979/1980 when I was around age 5. Every time we went to her house I would go in her bathroom and smell the tube of Prell shampoo. It's funny because I don't remember what shampoo we used in our house :-)
Prell is stronger because people didn't wash their hair everyday. Maybe wash and set it on rollers with a curler cap every weekend. Every few months people used to get a Toni perm so your hair would hold a set better. In the 70s we stated to wash our hair every day and my father said we were clogging up the drains with our long hair. Breck shampoo was my mothers favorite, she would order several bottles when it was on sale. We also had Suave creme rinse so you could comb out the tangles.
My grandmother used nothing but breck.. and the pink conditioner.. I certainly remember it all.. when my brother and I were pre teens and stayed with our grandmother.. she would shampoo our hair at the kitchen sink with her breck. I hated the smell and thought it too “ girly” to be used on us boys and once she used that pink conditioner on my hair.. took forever for her to rinse out my hair.. that was a shampooing I never forgot.
My mother washed our hair with Prell as kids and I continued through high school, and I also used Dippity-do when I set and wrapped my hair to get it straight.
Revlons Flex Shampoo and conditioners were amazing! I had waist long hair from high school throughout college and these products made hair smell and look incredible! Up to about 10 years or so ago I was still able to buy the shampoo on Drugstore.com. I keep hoping it comes back but Revlon isn’t interested in retro anything except lipstick, they even ruined my favorite fragrance Ciara by changing the formula I presume to make it cheaper.
I always pre-condition once a week with Elasticiser. An amazing product as are all the Philip Kingsley prescription products. I have used it for years and for even longer I have been using Vitapoint. It is used also to smooth your hair after styling, not just the ends but all your hair, gets rid of any wispy bits and leaves a lovely smooth finish, particularly on a vintage hairdo. Not a big user of hairspray but definitely have used Elnett
I remember being fascinated with Dippity Do and the bubbles that were all through the jar. We only ever had Prell shampoo and Johnson’s Baby Shampoo growing up.

Hi Catherine. Wasn’t it called “Gee your hair smells terrific? Lol some of the product names when I was growing up on the 70’s were really hilarious. :)
About 8 years ago I bought some cans of Pssst dry shampoo from a CVS. I think they worked pretty well, but like most dry shampoos, they unfortunately smelled like carpet cleaner to me, not shampoo! Pantene dry shampoo has the only good fragrance I've found so far.
My mom would put Dippity Doo on my hair when I was a little girl. She would then put roller on my hair.My hair would be so curly and soft.I like this product very much. It smelled good too.

I have no doubt you'll reach a million by the end of the year if you keep this up:) Hope you are doing well & thanks for still uploading despite what's going on
Boy do I remember Dippity Doo! I had very curly hair as a child. I was little in the sixties and my mother would slap this stuff on my head, especially on my curly bangs. She would comb it straight and tape it down with pink hair tape. I then wore a soft bonnet dryer for an excruciatingly long time since gel slowed down the drying time. I remember it came in pink and light sky blue. It had a pleasant light scent which I always enjoyed. Of course as soon as she ripped the tape off my bangs my hair would quickly boing back into curls. She never gave up trying to straighten my hair with it though.
I was born in 1971. I remember that Prell shampoo had the little pearl in it. I noticed that it no longer has the pearl. I still love Prell shampoo and still use it. My Dad used Tres flores pomade on his comb over. Every time I smell Tres Flores it reminds me of Pop's.
Rose here. I have used prell shampoo for 50 years or more and I still use it today I would not use any other shampoo. I have tried other shampoos but I would never give up my prell shampoo.
My mom always bought Prell shampoo in the late 70s I remember the way it smells my Grandma used Alberto V05 from her teens in the 50s until she passed in 1998 I do remember my great grandmother would come over every Friday morning my Granny would do her hair up in rollers and dippity do that would be her hair style for the week
Prell....I loved it as a child, especially the ad where they dropped the pearl in it. Other big ones from my time were Body On Tap, Fabrege Organics and Pert.
Nothing feels better on your scalp than natural bristles. Relaxing! I have a Crabtree & Evelyn natural bristle hairbrush I bought for $40 25 years ago. It’s in great shape, still feels good. They all seem to cost a fortune these days.
I love Elnett hairspray but I can't take the smell, I use their unscented version which is really just a light scented tolerable version. I remember the scent of Prell from when I was a kid. I used Dippity-Do like crazy in the 80s, and my mom used it in the 60s and 70s to do a wet set with her magnetic rollers and then she would sit under her dome table dryer. I thought they discontinued it!
I still have a dome dryer (lol). Set my hair with rollers, sit under the dryer for an hour, then I'm ready to roll. Yes, also used Vitapointe. It's a very light cream which can be used daily for dry hair. Controls "fly aways" Would like to buy it again but don't know where to get it...........Vintage girl here.
In the seventies I use final Nat and I know it's been around for a while a lot of women used it that's how you got your beehives your French twist and your flips
I am 52 years old. We use Prell and dippity doo when I was a kid. My mom would use the dippity doo when she set my hair with those hard pink rollers. That was in the 70’s. Those rollers were painful to sleep in
Prell, Safeguard, Dippy Do and Aqua net I grew up with those. The worst was the nylon bristle brush my mom brushed my curly hair with. Didn't know what hair conditioner was till the age of 16.

@@cattycorner8...My guess is that it has something to do with money. Just like A LOT of products I grew up with are no longer fit. Baby Ruth candy bars come to mind. I grew up with the SAME TOASTER my entire life. I could go one but won't!
I remember my mother had used Dippty Do, it was a pink jell I believe, also, do you remember luster cream shampoo? Thank you for your videos
Do you mean Nutri Tonic ? It was in a plastic jar and it was pink ?
Luster Cream shampoo. Smelled good.
@@buffy2875 I remember that something called Nutri tonic hair conditioner! Loved it and it smelled so good. I think they discontinued that quite a while back! Wish I had had some of that today.
@@kathleenthompson3140 also used luster cream cream shampoo, it was so very rich and creamy and smelled so good also.
I've never seen pink Dippity Do, only green.
I remember Prell! They still sell it it's actually a good shampoo for oily hair. Great video!
My mom used VitaPointe hairdresser on my sisters and I. It is very inexpensive at beauty supply stores. Its formula has changed but it still a good product.
OMG PRELL, LOL IT WAS LIKE DISH DETERGENT,,,I REMEMBER THE COMMERCIAL WITH THE PEARL
it WAS like dish detergent
What a lovely distraction these videos are! i still use prell shampoo. We had it when I was a little girl as well. the last time I used the hairspray you showed was about a year ago when we were in France. I had forgotten my travel size hairspray and was able to buy a small can of it in a pharmacy. I haven’t used that brand in years but it was familiar to me so I grabbed it!🧴
I still use Queen Helene skin and hair products. It's what my mom bought for us when I was younger and it works today.
I remember the dippity doo and the Pssssst dry shampoo!Memories!
Oh my forgot about dippity doo and pssssst Dry shampoo had to have it during cold season.

Great movie; not sure how much was factual.
You are right about that- You set your hair on the weekend for church, then kept it that way all week.
I’ve used Prell as a clarifying shampoo. It’s basically dish soap. But it does the job, lol.
I used Queen Helene Cholesterol back in the 1980 s when I was doing crazy things to my hair. It made my hair super soft! Enjoy!
The price went up I used to spend a dollar on it I loved that
I remember using Prell from the tube prior to the 80's.
Prell smells so good. My other favorite smell is the original Coppertone suntan oil. I think I would buy these products just for the smell.
Prell was my favorite !
You missed Tame from the 70s. It made combing out my hair after shampooing much less painful.
We used cholesterol alot in cosmetology school still. We even use it on stateboard
Queen Helene as a hair mask is the best!
I remember being fascinated with Dippity Do and the bubbles that were all through the jar. We only ever had Prell shampoo and Johnson’s Baby Shampoo growing up.
I used Prell shampoo this morning!
I love it! Hair feels clean and truly weightless.
cutiepatutti65 wher can I find prell I miss it so much?
Yes Where do u get it!?
Walmart has it.
@@margearetwilliams3779 Found it at the Dollar Store here in Florida. Am so happy. Have to wash my hair often and Prell works perfectly for my needs. Still love the scent.
I alternate between Pantene, Herbal Essences, Aussie, Dove, Suave, Tresemme, Head & Shoulders, Prell, Pert, Alberto VO5. I shampoo and condition my hair twice a week.
Pantene, Aussie, Prell, Tresemme, used to be sold and used in salons years ago! Fun fact!
Prell is a great body wash. It contains ammonia so it is really strong. I also like it for my hair. It gets so shiny.
The originally balsam flex. Wonderful.
I love prell I've used it , love the body you get with it great product
I ❤️ everything Queen Helene!
Met Phillip Kingsley in mid eighties when I worked at Saks,SF as a resident makeup artist.
Vintage skincare products next? 😃 Noxzema is a seriously underated product!
Fun and great video thank you. I remember Prell when i was a kid it was great shampoo. Wonder if it still is. Yes Queen Helene Cholesterol i have used as well. All there products i like.
I remember the Dippity Doo and the Pssst. Does anyone remember the shampoo called I Can’t Believe My Hair Smells So Good.
Hi Catherine. Wasn’t it called “Gee your hair smells terrific? Lol some of the product names when I was growing up on the 70’s were really hilarious. :)
Yep! You can still get that shampoo from the Vermont Country Store.
Wow I gotta say your channel is growing faster than I've EVER seen on youtube!! You have a one of a kind approach to your vids that's intimate, along with the vintage aspect which many ppl love. I have no doubt you'll reach a million by the end of the year if you keep this up:) Hope you are doing well & thanks for still uploading despite what's going on
I love prell. Not for long hair but for my short hair. Smells divine.
Sis, you are good. You always manage to find some amazing vintage products. Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time.
Prell is still around?! My grandma used that stuff. It's a wonder Prell didn't burn the hair clean off her scalp!
Growing up using Prell, it was basically detergent. Would make your hair so frizzy.
Prell is a lifesaver when my hair gets overly oily
I used to get Vitapoint when i lived in England, I forgot all about it, it was so many years ago! Good stuff that 😊
Dippity Doo helped when you were curling your hair with the big plastic rollers. Thanks for the memories of these products
Always wanted to try Dippity-Do btw loved this video was very interesting to know how old some of these products are✨💕
It’s so fun to see the tried and true products for hair.
I have really dry frizzy hair and am a hairstylist and I honestly love vitapointe and Mason Pearson brushes. You can't beat them still!
Glad to see it in your video. I still use Prell and think it’s the best shampoo out there.
Rose here. I have used prell shampoo for 50 years or more and I still use it today I would not use any other shampoo. I have tried other shampoos but I would never give up my prell shampoo.
Still remember the smell of Prell. Loved it
My mom always bought Prell shampoo in the late 70s I remember the way it smells my Grandma used Alberto V05 from her teens in the 50s until she passed in 1998 I do remember my great grandmother would come over every Friday morning my Granny would do her hair up in rollers and dippity do that would be her hair style for the week
Prell....I loved it as a child, especially the ad where they dropped the pearl in it.
Other big ones from my time were Body On Tap, Fabrege Organics and Pert.
Body on Tap had beer in it. I liked it . Would give my hair body.
Nothing feels better on your scalp than natural bristles. Relaxing! I have a Crabtree & Evelyn natural bristle hairbrush I bought for $40 25 years ago. It’s in great shape, still feels good. They all seem to cost a fortune these days.
I used Prell in the 60's. My late father used the Three Flowers on his curly hair. This video brought back wonderful memories.
My mama loved Prell shampoo in the 60's 😉
I've never heard of that hairspray.
My mom used three flowers on her hair when I was little, such a nostalgic scent!
I just loved Irovy shampoo and conditioner. It smelled so good!!
I used to use Prell when I was a kid, I loved it
In the seventies I use final Nat and I know it's been around for a while a lot of women used it that's how you got your beehives your French twist and your flips
I remember that old style Prell bottle,it smelled nice too.
Prell was my fave in High School
I loved Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific
I am 52 years old. We use Prell and dippity doo when I was a kid. My mom would use the dippity doo when she set my hair with those hard pink rollers. That was in the 70’s. Those rollers were painful to sleep in
I've used hair cholesterol and it's very good for dry, damaged hair. love your videos.
Loved the smell of Prell!
Prell, Safeguard, Dippy Do and Aqua net I grew up with those. The worst was the nylon bristle brush my mom brushed my curly hair with. Didn't know what hair conditioner was till the age of 16.
