If you do this successfully and get it all back together and you can turn the key but it doesn't start, just leave it in the on position for a WHILE. I did the 10 min cycle about 5 times to no avail, but I left it on for about 20-30 minutes and it started right up. The BCM needs time to sync with the new cylinder and everything.

Thanks for this video, very helpful. I've been struggling with the infamous "no crank" problem on a 2001 Monte Carlo seemingly caused by the PASSLOCK system. I read somewhere that a failing battery can cause the problem also and since the battery tested as bad, I replaced it and that seemed to fix the issue, but then suddenly it returned. It's unclear to me how replacing the ignition switch housing can fix this since the PASSLOCK sensor just snaps into it. It was a bit loose in the new housing as well as in the old one, so I secured it with a cable tie. Reused the original lock cylinder and keys. Car now cranks and starts, but I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't seen the last of the issue. If it reoccurs, I'll try the bypass fix instead.

Couldn't figure out why I could operate the ignition tumbler and take key out before installation but when I installed for test I couldn't take key out..... When installed the ignition recognizes the transmission is not in park and wont' let you completely turn off ignition and remove key....DUH. Also sorry I couldn't buy part from you as it was out of stock.

Hey just curious what if the lock cylinder froze and wont turn? Its making it hard to remove one of the sensors on the ignition starter switch. (The long white/grey)
If your new lock, or your old lock cylinder won't release the key when installed, this could be a problem with the thick, stiff cable that goes between the switch assembly and the shifter. Sometimes that cable can for whatever reason stop functioning correctly, or the adjustment can get out of whack. If the cable seizes, try to move the grey plunger back and forth to increase the movement (without breaking it!). Use of a fine lubricant can also improve this. If the lock cylinder binds up, it could be bad, and it would probably bind up both in and out of the switch socket. Oh and the last of 3 parts of the programming sequence... the SECURITY light may not stop flashing. This is important to know because some may assume the whole effort failed, then begin to start again needlessly.
I replaced my Ignition switch but the vehicle will not crank I try to do a key learn but it was unsuccessful. When I try to start the car the cluster illuminates on the dash and I hear a clicking sound from underneath the hood area. However after reading some of the posts I read one that said turn the key and leave it on for 10 minutes I tried that with no success but since I later read a post saying to try 20 to 30 minutes I haven't tried that yet although I will here shortly but is there anything else that I'm missing that I could do to rectify my issues?
I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS with 3.8 with 125000 miles and all the heater/ac controls would work intermittently for awhile, but had stopped working after around 1-2 months, including the blower. No selectors work on control panel and both lights stay on for outside and inside air circulation, but are dim. Cruise control light on dash would come on and off, but would not work when I try to turn the a/c blower switch on. Also noticed the overhead console quit working at same time. It was all the ignition. Hope this helps somebody!

So when replacing just the cylinder there is no relearn process and the car should start like normal unlike if the lock cylinder was being replaced?
