This is the best video I've seen. I have a 2000 chevy impala and my low beams went out, high beams and parking lights worked. I changed the bulbs, nothing new fuses nothing, new battery, replaced the light switch and Nothing! Then heard this would fix it and it work!!! Low beams work again!
I wanted to sincerely thank you for this video. I just changed the multi function switch in my son's 2005 Monte Carlo. I was finished in less than 40 minutes. My wife asked, "You are done already?" I had already purchased the part I needed before I saw your video, but the next repair I take on, I will check out 1A auto for parts. Thanks again!
Just ordered my new switch from you guys for only $43.95! First purchase from 1A Auto. I always watch your videos though. they are extremely helpful and have saved me thousands of dollars in the past. Thanks!
+Brandon Quillen Thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
I just did mine following these instructions. A few notes that could have helped: first off disconnect the battery, you are working very close to the airbag wiring and moving it around. Also the main wire harness that is disconnected, with the locking tab, you must squeeze the two black tabs on both sides to remove the grey lever to the "unlock" side. If you have big hands there may be some cuss words.
Thank you very very much. I just used this to fix my 2003 Monte Carlo ls with cruise control. My car sat pretty long because this switch burnt up wipers were on full blast no headlights at all. It was just a minor problem for years turning high to low beam and vice versa without it clicking. After it first burnt and smoked it was just stuck on high beam. My car sat so my electronic seat wouldn’t go back because of corrosion so working was a tight fit. But I would have broke many things ,or been afraid to break stuff not knowing what way to pull. Or what special e5 female torx bit that I didn’t own all I could find were deep well ,but it did work thankfully . It’s nice to know what tools needed. If I did it again it would be much easier. Took me an hr after messing with my seat for an hr to get it done maybe an hr and a half with clean up. Car is fixed, and it seems like even other electrical stuff that was intermittent not related is all working now. Like the lights on my rear view mirror. I was told I must pull steering wheel. Well thanks to that little tedious trick with a quarter inch wrench no need to pull the wheel. You guys made it look really easy. It was harder than you made it look as far as time because I was not pulling pushing ,or contorting the plastic the right way ,and was cautious not to break anything. I guess if you do this all the time you get good at it. Just like everything else I’ve done on cars over, and over it becomes no problem unless a bolt ,or stud snaps or something. Ive found If I get tires put on I always loosen my lug nuts to ,and re torque to spec 89 ft lbs instead of 250+ foot pounds a shop will many times do. That ruins stuff ,and breaks studs later if left torqued 3 times the spec. Your videos get me into things ,and fix stuff I know nothing about over 100 times I’ve used your videos. 🙏👍
After installing your new switch and before you put the panels back on it is a good idea to try the wipers, washer and dimmer instead of having to take it all apart again.
Hi, thanks for the video! I also purchased my switch from 1A Auto today. Though my vehicle is an 02 Century it appears the white clip/retainer at the 3:24 second mark on your video is the same but I spent a long time trying to get the clip to release but after watching your video I think I had the wrong approach. Before pulling the "tab" downward and twisting it to get it over the lower part of the clip did you have to pull the slack out of the clip to be able to get it to come down and twist over the lower part of the clip/retainer to get it to release? Sure wish you had a video of this on the Century, Sill I appreciate this video and the instruction.
I 100 percent understand and agree! I just did this an hr ago. My seat is electronic on driver side, and wouldn’t go back so it was really tight work for me. I shake with nerve muscle ,and Joint damage from chronic Lyme disease so tedious stuff like this is a pita my fingers lock up same with my back. I got it done in an hour, then about another half hr cleaning up ,and prep. The seat not going back made it harder. Glad no need to pull steering wheel. Definitely they the pros made it look super easy. I use them all the time for years . Their videos are great. It’s nice knowing what tools are needed so I don’t have to keep going to get tools. The E5 female torx I didn’t have so found only one at the auto pats store in a package of 6 all deep well. First time I’ve used those to be honest, and I work on all my own vehicles ,and motorcycles. So I have a good amount of tools. Nearly every hand tool for mechanical stuff I think.
I used a 1/8 alen key on the t25 screws. MUCH EASER then the bit, its very hard to get the bit in place let alone turn it. The 1/8 alen was very easy to hold, get started and screw in the bolt. You should add this note to the video. Btw your replacment switch works great. Nice to have wipers again.
Have a 2002 Monte SS, just ordered switch from you guys. Thanks for the GREAT video! If I took to dealership I can almost bet this whole project would be at least $600.00+, not $79.00! Thanks again!

@@1AAuto Can you please do a video to depict this: These instructions are for the 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala (Eighth generation) Turn Signal Cancelling Cam replacement. Once you use a PowerBuilt Streering Wheel Removal Set RENTAL from AutoZone to remove the steering wheel, after you removed the airbag, then you must use "snap-ring pliers" to remove the snap-ring from the Steering Air Coil Kit GM part # 26089982, 26088931, or 26092622 aka "Clock Spring". at 4:15 you mention a 3rd plug for cruise. I took mine apart a couple of days ago and for the life of me i can't find where to put that 2 wire plug back. What switch does it go to? everything works, but the cruise now.
I had a local mechanic replace mine and now it is too hard to use the blinker, I have to use much more "finger force" to blink left or right ... is there some loosening that can be done or is it most likely the switch itself, and I should go about buying another new switch
+michael halas It may be a different procedure on that vehicle. Yes, the hazard switch is connected to the turn signal switch on that vehicle. Is this procedure similar to the 2002 Impala? I'm getting a "Hi Beam Out" message, although they appear to work fine, as do the low beams. I've been told I may have to replace the multifunction switch, and the dealer wants 2 arms and 4 legs to do it. Is there a TSB on this?
Can I take mine out of my Monte and put it in my 04 impala? I know I probably won’t have cruise control because the one for my impala has the cruise on/off on the switch
his I wish it was as simple as the video makes it look lol but after an hour or two of complaining because of cramped hands and tight fits (if you have big hands) this video is perfect and spot on!

1A Auto Parts they put a cd changer in trunk and jammed 2 wires into fuse spot with fuse that was the cause guys thanks always look up ur videos when workin on cars
+gentlejake 605 Same problem on a 2003 Impala 3.4L. Pull back on the switch and the brights light up but won't stay on. I've heard that it's not a good idea to keep it pulled back for more than a few seconds or it could burn out but not sure about that. In any case, the brights could eventually fail altogether although mine has been this way for about five years. According to another video here, the problem could lie in the wiring, which he tested, but found the problem to be in the switch. So I'm just going to replace the switch.
+geecrawdad I did replace the switch and if only I could edit out the parts that were frustrating like a video. Some problem areas for me: I guess it's the cruise control connection which has two wires and goes up, back, and on top right side of the steering column. I put a moving blanket on the floor and got comfortable. I used one of those small pick tools with a right angle on it to release the catch. Then the largest connection - watch how the original comes out so you can have the new one in the right position. There are two other switches very nearby and partially block getting the new connection in there. By the way, to get it out, you have to press in on the levers on either side first, then pull up on that wider locking device. For the external torks you can use a six-sided 6mm? socket. Anyway, it's pretty small. Top and bottom covers - I had some trouble getting these on, especially the top. After a little wangling and jangling, it went on. Finally, don't forget to remove the negative battery cable and the SRS 10A fuse. I think SRS may also be SIR or SDM. Nice to have brights again.
+geecrawdad One more thing. I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the "trunk open" switch. I actually remove the two tiny white pieces because they looked like they were holding it on. You'll find the catch on the underside.
+geecrawdad Ok, one more. The cruise control switch wires are long. When you get the new one, they may have the wires doubled up and taped so only the plug is showing. Just take the tape off and you'll see there's plenty of wire.
+Davonte' Weary We aren't able to diagnose issues like that, but you may want to have it checked out by a mechanic. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
HELP!!!!!!!! I had already bought the switch I need before doing this fix. When I hook up the battery and the left blinker is blinking. Tried different positions and turn wheel back and forth but it won’t go off! All other functions work. Haven’t tried cruise. Is it possible I have main harness hooked up upside down? Pins are identical top to bottom. Yellow wires were on bottom of harness so that’s how I put new one in. I’m in trouble here. Tons of snow coming this week and I need the car. Someone please help.
I have a 2001 Chevy Impala only the right side lo beam is working and I don't know why also the fog lights don't work I just replace the light switch come it be the hi/lo switch and I'm am totally lost with the fog lights

So my issues is as follows, hyper flash on both signals, push hazards in i get no front flashers but side markers blink, everything off and push horn i get parking lamps in front. Sooo confused. My guess part of the problem is the hazard blinker switch. But also with ignition on if i use my wiper sprayer i get side markers in front on with slow wipers spray.. or BCM issues? idk. Its 02 Monty carlo..
My turn signal sometimes doesn’t work I hit the four ways and it works again I replaced the Hazard switch and it still does it Would replacing the turn signal switch fix? Looking for answers Maybe someone else had this problem Thanks

I tried that, but the wheel trim is still in the way, maybe with a skinnier driver than i have, but there really is no good reason for a bolt with a a big driver to always have less than an inch of clearance and no way easy way to take the part out of the way
+Chris Hudson Thank you for checking us out. We carry the identical part in the video for 43.95 at www.1aauto.com/2000-05-chevy-impala-monte-carlo-turn-signal-and-wiper-switch-lever/i/1azcc00175?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&YJLT1u5Tj4
You skipped the part between the torx screw and pulling down on the bottom shroud that there is a second screw down there. So following your instructions I just ripped the bottom of my steering column cover off of the head of a screw. Good looking out.
I need help on my 04 Monte Carlo I replaced the inition switch two times in the car it cuts off my dash hands be going crazy could it be the computer or grounding

Yes it will!
Is this the same process for 97-03 grand prix's???
his I wish it was as simple as the video makes it look lol but after an hour or two of complaining because of cramped hands and tight fits (if you have big hands) this video is perfect and spot on!
+Dennis Mowery Thanks for checking us out! If any of our viewers needs to make this repair. Here's a link to the turn signal switch show in this video on our website www.1aauto.com/2000-05-chevy-impala-monte-carlo-turn-signal-and-wiper-switch-lever/i/1azcc00175?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony
Do you have a video for replacing the turn switch in a 2007 Monte Carlo?
+Alisha1003 .it opo (it) We currently do not have an auto repair video on that particular repair. Thank you for asking.
@@1AAuto Please make a video to depict this..... These instructions are for the 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala (Eighth generation) Turn Signal Cancelling Cam replacement. The next step is that one must use the Lisle 57340 Steering Wheel Lock Plate Tool and a small vicegrip to compress the turquoise/emerald spring, which pop the "Lock Plate Ring" GM part # 05694191 up from the lock plate. You can use picks - mine were from AutoZone - to move the lock plate ring from the lock plate... Once removed, then you'll be able to slide the "Turn Signal Cancelling Cam" GM part # 26086061 off the "Upper Steering Shaft" GM part # 26064247. You must be very careful NOT to disrupt the connection of the "Bearing Spring Set" GM part # 15231641 and "Bearing Kit" GM part # 26001827 from the "Upper Steering Shaft" GM part # 26064247.
Can I just buy the switch or do I need the harness too? That’ll save a lot of time.
Will this fix both blinkers from blinkin at same time when u turn it to left or right
+Sean McKernan It sounds link there might be a pinched wire on the circuit somewhere. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts they put a cd changer in trunk and jammed 2 wires into fuse spot with fuse that was the cause guys thanks always look up ur videos when workin on cars

I'm having the same problem on a Chevy Impala 2000
Will this make my left blinker work ? I changed the light 💡
+Davonte' Weary We aren't able to diagnose issues like that, but you may want to have it checked out by a mechanic. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Thanks . very helpful .
My knuckles are bleeding because of this. Good video though.🎉🎉
I have a 2001 Chevy Impala only the right side lo beam is working and I don't know why also the fog lights don't work I just replace the light switch come it be the hi/lo switch and I'm am totally lost with the fog lights

I love you guys
So my issues is as follows, hyper flash on both signals, push hazards in i get no front flashers but side markers blink, everything off and push horn i get parking lamps in front. Sooo confused. My guess part of the problem is the hazard blinker switch. But also with ignition on if i use my wiper sprayer i get side markers in front on with slow wipers spray.. or BCM issues? idk. Its 02 Monty carlo..
Why is the button for the hazards missing when he is putting the upper piece of the steering colum back on?
Thank you 🏆
i bought a switch on ebay and it lasted couple of years, how do i know this wont do same thing?

2:47 minutes Into this video, Yes you can get at that screw with a T25. It's called turning the steering wheel to the left lol
I tried that, but the wheel trim is still in the way, maybe with a skinnier driver than i have, but there really is no good reason for a bolt with a a big driver to always have less than an inch of clearance and no way easy way to take the part out of the way
Remember, once you put EVERYTHING back together, all lights, blinkers, wipers and cruise should work properly 😁
will those wires unplug from the switch itself?
Good video, but you should have demonstrated that it works.
+@mishroeder9490 Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
Lever aint pull out easy like that, feels like ima break it

You skipped the part between the torx screw and pulling down on the bottom shroud that there is a second screw down there. So following your instructions I just ripped the bottom of my steering column cover off of the head of a screw. Good looking out.
dude that but in my stereo also put my switch in for 100 extra bucks
Thaaaaaaanks
I need help on my 04 Monte Carlo I replaced the inition switch two times in the car it cuts off my dash hands be going crazy could it be the computer or grounding
