Magic lantern is the proof Canon Limits their cameras full potential. The canon 5D mark III raw footage 14 bits are the best 1080 footage ever.
Yep! 🔧
Your passion for these old lenses and shooting styles is amazing. I love the effect that they give, very nostalgic to the 90's and my childhood. Keep it up brother!
Hey Zeek! I love what you are doing in the EOS-M community. Your footage looks amazing. There is something so satisfying about turning a challenge into a triumph.
Appreciate it! It would be more difficult to achieve these results with my modern lenses. It was amazing to see the impact on the image in post with these C mount lenses. 👌🎥
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks for your replies. Your work is just gorgeous!! You are very ingenious in the way you configure your rigs and in the way you mix and match legacy gear to create your cinema looks! It’s really brilliant and much more affordable for most cases. Not to mention that it’s all much easier for your running and gunning style.
Love this so much. It's making look at my arsenal of old unused cameras very differently. I think as film makers, we abandon our aging cameras too quickly when they still have plenty of life and potential in them.
A nice example when somebody with the right hands can do amazing footage beating much more expensive staff
Appreciate it! Lovely camera 🎥🔥
It's not often I'm scrolling through UA-cam, see a video that stops me in my tracks and makes my eyebrows meet my receding hairline, with interest!
Awesome idea, production and the results are amazing.
Haha, appreciate it! :)
Why do you make me buy stuff
😂😂😂
The footage looks gorgeous, really enjoyed it. Love your tutorials for a truly affordable camera. Keep up the good work! Since the M50 has a heavy 4k crop as well, though obviously no raw, have you tried the lenses on that camera? Do they cover 4k there? The crop seems somewhere around 2,72x which is close to S16 @ 2,77x, though still a larger sensor area than regular 16mm. Maybe this would make for a future video?!
The 4k crop on the m50 is 2.56x, and it will work fine with these lenses. If you use Digital IS enhanced it will crop even further.
Absolutely stunning mate! This looks like it'll be my first digital camera!
Zeek, you're a legend. Answered so many questions I've had as a beginning cinematographer. Thanks mate.
I love the footage and the vintage image quality. Thoroughly inspiring!
You are an inspiration Zeek. Via bingeing on your videos, I got inspired and just purchased the EOS M. I am building a mini rig for travel videos from what I learn from your vids. From a fellow Melbournian, thank you!
Awesome to hear! For the price its a fun camera, especially when building rigs for it! 😎👍💯
this was amazing. thank you for sharing. I have an M6mk2. I never thought about using vintage glass on it. Gotta see if it even has a crop mode. Love your setup
You can use digital IS enhanced which will crop in more than the 1.6x aps-c
Hey ! thanks for the video. what cover do you use that allows you to use ND filters on super 16 lenses ?
This is a great set up. It's amazing how some lenses, paired with particular sensors, codecs, produce such a nice effect and it's not always the most expensive option. It begs the question...what combo would emulate the super 35mm look?!
This image quality is exactly what Im looking for with my upcoming short film projects.. Im not too fond of the super crisp HQ footage which is common nowadays.. I have always loved this old early 90s or 80s look of movies!
Yeah the secret is to have a bit of red-push in the colour grading. Most movies today always go too often for a heavy teal & orange look with greenish yellows and having no pleasing warmth anymore in the picture.
tysm for this tip, looks absolutely great@@KRAFTWERK2K6
Hi Zeek, I just watched the Goonies, and I thought it was incredible that you can reproduce the cinematography of the film so well...
Haha awesome man! Great film! The EOS M RAW I find is the best digital camera that can get close to that look, especially at it's price point, it's amazing.
All we need now is good lighting, actors, composition, sound design etc..
Hello Zeek! When you say EOS M its the EOS M or EOS M200? anddd whe nyou say raw your footage its super flat for color grading?
Very interesting! What do you think would it look like with a blackmagic pocket cinema camera 6k? thanks a lot!
Well, the Blackmagic Pocket 6K can't accept these lenses due to flange distance. These lenses would become macro.
Love your videos... I started to purchase my Video/Photo Equipment... and I got lucky and found someone selling a Canon EOS M...
I can not wait to use this Camera...
I love creative rigs like this! Beautiful footage, dude!
Appreciate it! 😎🙌💯
Thanks for a great video! I have some super 16 lenses and was thinking of getting the eos-m.I previously installed magic lantern on my 70d, but the aliasing was very bad, and I don't think there are any non line-skipped crop modes like the eos-m has. I was wondering which brand eos-m to c-mount adapter you were using? (I've bought c-mount adapters in the past that didn't allow for infinity focus. Thanks
I can't remember the brand tbh, just a cheap one off ebay
Спасибо за интересные видео! Есть у меня мечта попробовать похожий объектив. Но он мистическим образом потерялся. Надеюсь найду.
Ты понял как убирать виньетирование изображения? Ещё больше кроп делать?
@@danstongaming I use crop modes so no vignette here. With Sony cameras, Clear Image Zoom will help. I find 25mm C mount is the best for wide/all-rounder with the Sony.
@@danstongaming Видимо да. Я хотел на экшн-камеру поставить, там с этим проблем нет.
Great video!! I have a set of Kern-Paillard lens that I’ve been trying to make work with my Canon T7i but there’s no luck with the focus. Hopefully one day I’ll figure it out and make it right to make stuff like you!
hey, I was hoping you could explain to me some things. What exactly does Magic Lantern do to a camera? What does 14 bit RAW even mean? Is the EOS M the recommended camera or do you recommend any of the supported cameras? Sorry for all the questions, I hope at-least one can get answered!
Thank you Zeek!
Hey so:
-14 bit means that there are 4 trillion possible colors that the camera can record, which means more vibrant images.
-RAW means you get the raw data from the sensor, and you can change the image completely in post-production.
-Magic Lantern is a modification that unlocks these capabilities in the camera, as they weren't advertised in the first place.
-EOS M is pretty cheap so if it breaks it's not too much of a loss. $250 at most.
I always go for vintage look with Eos M without a second thought, with Helios 44 it looks awesome
No doubt! Love the Helios too! 😉👌🔥
Ive got some m42 lenses and considering buying an eos m to try out this film look as it looks amazing. Do the m42 lenses have a crop factor with magic lantern like the c mount lenses do? Thanks James
@@2025orbust the lenses won't produce the crop factor, it's mainly the camera and the modes you choose with the EOS M. M42 lenses are nice, 24/28mm are good focal lengths. In the 1080 mode there is a 1.6x usual crop, 5K FRTP has a 2.05x crop, 2.5K has 3.2x Crop and 2.8K has a 2.96x crop, which is why these wide C mount lenses are perfect. Even the kit lenses with IS are quite nice.
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you. Bought an 8mm vintage c mount lens and m adapter as well so that should leave a reasonable 24mm image area at 3x. Will look at more lenses when I’ve tested that out. Film look is great and since I’ve been paying through the nose shooting actual film (super8) recently I could do with the low cost and flexibility of digital for a while. Have a good day.
Can you please recommend some Helios 44 lenses and tell me everything else I’ll need in order to connect the lense with the EOS M camera? (list of purchases) Such as the correct adapter etc…I would really appreciate any help you can provide, I’m a beginner at this but it’s my passion and I’ve been working on a project that could definitely use this unique setup.
Is the camera called the Eos m
Cuz I googled it and it only showed m50s and m200
Yep! EOS M Original
Great footage and content! Any recommendations for a Fuji recipe that will get a similar look to the footage at the beach? For photography.
Shoot Fujifilm RAW. Using old vintage glass will really help a lot. M42 lenses or Canon FD lenses are nice. Add film grain, and play around with curving the red, green and blue curves once exposure and white balance have been corrected. Using diffusion filters can help as well for digital sensors.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you for the reply. I will definitely look into all that. I will be lens shopping this weekend.
This is what I’m looking for, I really dislike the 22mm it’s extremely sharp but look is very digital, great for photos but for video I’m not a fan
Not a fan anymore but I use it because I like the compact lenses
Vintage lenses are the way to go in that case! 😉
Is the touchscreen still functional after installing the magiclantern firmware????
Yes. 👍🏾👍🏾
When it comes to shooting eos m raw. Zeek is like a Godfather on this field.
Any estimate as to how long you can record at 1080p raw with 1TB Sandisk Extreme Pro?
Anywhere from 3 to 5 hours as a guess. I could record for more than 1 hour with my 512GB SD. I made a video testing this card and how long I could record with it.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you, man.
Excuse me but what is your adapter ring ? Also your vidéo is super
The Adapter ring should be 43-52mm filter ring.
I’m just wondering what your using in the thumbnail? Thanks!
Cosmicar 12.5mm F1.9 with the EOS M
Hi Zeek, amazing inventions ones again. Great information. You think this handgrip will help me with my 5DMark3 and 16-35 mm f2.8 (no stabilizer) to get better smooth results. Now I use a gimbal but its to heavy. Keep on going.
Take care
greetings from the Netherlands
cheers Richard
Yes the pistol grip + neck strap will help for sure, and then you can apply stabilisation in post of you need.
Hi Zeek! First of all, thanks a lot for your videos, you are a tru inspirations for many! I had one question, do you think there's a big difference between the COSMICAR 12.5mm f1.9 and COSMICAR 12.5mm f1.8 lenses? I'm asking because I checked on eBay the f1.9 lenses cost 1,500 dollars, and the f1.8 cost 250 bucks. Thanks in advance!
FoxTailWhips channel sent me here. He recommended you.
😎👍🎥🔥
I wonder what your videos would look with tom bolle's cineprint16 Film emulation
Probably closer to film haha ;) /
I've never heard of Tom Bolle's Cineprint but I'll look into it.
@@ZeekEOSZ You definitely should. Go higher bro!
The shot of the lady from 8.21 to 8.25 is superb. Very 16-like indeed, with good bokeh but not too much at the same time. Pls. put a link to the very latest ML version. Thanks.
The build I use is in the description of this video:

you have done it once again giving eos m new flavors i been experimenting with rokinon 8mm and 14mm cine lenses but also just shot wedding with 35mm f1.6 c mount cheap china made lens could not shoot raw because of crop and length of the video ,but great job on video
Awesome! Nice go with the wedding haha 😎🙌🎥🔥💯
Hello Zeek.... what you think wich one is good for magic lantern 5d mark 3 or canon m? with canon m i can use more lenses, only i afraid about record time
Record time is continuous with the EOS M depending on which mode. Generally resolutions below 2.3K are continuous. The 5D3 is a nice raw full frame camera and the most reliable with ML. But for me, I still prefer to use the EOS M.
@@ZeekEOSZthank you a lot.... you really help me.....I think i will choose canon m too)
Great setup. 🤓👍. To many movies are trying to please everyone by going super sharp. I feel it end up looking fake . What I mean is the backgrounds and things on set that are in frame looks unnatural.. you can when something is staged or not .. some movies just to sharp
Interesting little cam.. do you know the Dinamic Range value or capability for this camera w/the raw setting?
For photo RAW it's reported at 11.2 or so. But from actually grading the raw footage, it easily feels like 12 to 12.5 stops if not a little more.
i am having issues. MLV exports without audio. have you experienced this before? do you know any solution? Thanks
Thank you for great video) As always ;)
Just If you know. Is there any way to turned off pixel binning on 5D mk iii if full-frame 1080p?
You can't disable pixel binning. The 5D3 produces nice quality with 1080 RAW. It's the cleanest ML Camera with no aliasing.
@@ZeekEOSZ That is true, but. Pixel binning joining pixels with cross-spaced pattern so each color gets to much information from other. So it literally produces hardware blur. that helps with noise and moire but reduces overall crispness so much that cropped 920p actually produces more crisper image then binned 1080p.And sharpening does not help to gain it back :(
When i found this, I now prefer noisier native 1080p which is only cropped here then full frame blurry one.
Regardless thank you for you answer!))
Will try to find other viable solution or builds for that)
Also i was testing to debayer videos on Fistwork (Kimmel modified) instead of MLVs Amaze. So it produces even sharper image with less artifacts and color noise. Those guys behind MLV app defiantly should try to add better debayering algorithms on it. It just mind blowing how much debayering affects final image quality.
Awesome work! Been trying to find a Canon EOS M in South Africa but with no luck. I recently saw some old videos where people adapt action cameras (Yi 4K+) with lense adapters. Would be really great if you could perhaps do a series on something similar.
Hey Zeek, I love your videos. They inspired me to get an EOS M to play with. I have a quick question if you don't mind. When I'm recording in 5k anamorphic mode, I've noticed I'm getting corrupt frames here and there. Just single corrupted frames scattered through the video that turn out half bright pink and the other colors are all wack. Do you know how I might avoid this? I've tried significantly dropping the resolution
You shouldn't. Use the 5K "FRTP" Mode down the bottom of the presets list not the other ones. Use 10 bit and avoided high fps or fps everride. 😉👍💯🔥
Quick question I have got a cosmicar 12.5-75mm F1.8 lens and it seems that on the wide angle end I have trouble with the focus. I also use a screw on adapter from c-mount to eos-m as you. Any tips what I can try to fix this
. hi, friend,. I'm desperate to find a magic lantern for my M6 MARK II do you know where I can get the software for my camera for the M6 MARKII?
Impressive! Which lens did you use for the shot of the freeway overpass?
The Cosmicar 12.5mm F1.9 it was actually used for 99% of the shots in this video.
Any magic latern for lg phones or Panasonic cameras?
Hello. No, but there are free firmware hacks that you can get for the Panasonic GH1 or GH2, that allows them to shoot at a much higher bitrate for better video quality. 👍🏾
This was interesting and I do like the video quality though I am never sure beyond a UA-cam video what you might actually do with a system like this? What made this all the more attractive was that your camera operation is very, very good.
Do you know any place where you buy the cosmicar 12.5 f1.9 tv lens? couldnt find it anywhere
Those shots are beautiful, much more than just the lens, love the composition dude
Hi Zeek, newly subbed, lovin the content. I found your channel 2 days ago and just bought a EOS M today. HaHaHa, can't wait to get started playin around with ML and some C Mount glass.
Awesome! 😎🙌🎥🔥
Thanks for this video Zeek and the footage looks great! Quick questions.. How much record time do you get from these settings? Is it possible to record prores into an external recorder so you don’t have to deal with converting mlv files in post? Also, I’m considering getting the 5d mk iii using magic lantern, is there any settings for continuous record time? Thanks so much if you can answer these questions!
The HDMI output is not able to give you the resolution and bit-depth unfortunately... the fastest turn-around is to load all the footage into MLV app and convert to DNG lossless without any fixes or grading and do all that in Davinci Resolve or other video editor. You can also batch convert everything to Prores of course, but it's going to take a while (maybe run it overnight). Tip: Once your workflow is solid, you could delete the original MLV files to save space....
5D3 is continuous RAW. With the M and this mode and 2.2K Resolution I can record beyond a minute with 12 bit, and continuous with 10 bit.
@@TheCruisinCrew hey thanks so much for the info/tips. Converting everything to DNG lossless and then do the grading after in which ever program definitely sounds like a easier process and will have to try that out. Thank you again!
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks Zeek! So pretty much most resolutions/formats will be continuous with the 5D3?
Hey Zeek. Love your stuff! I just bought that same Cosmicar 12.5mm lens - but it says 50mm on it as yours does. Does this mean it isn't true 12.5mm? Sorry bit of a lens noob question!
I have a 50mm Apollo TV lens which looks exactly like the Cosmicar. The Cosmicar is 12.5mm F1.9. If it says 50mm, than it is 50mm
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you for the clarification!
Quite a nice idea, I would try to add a Mist filter to the lens so it gets slightly rid of the digital look and feel :)
I do own the 1/8, & 1/4. I'll use them next time! Cheers 😎👌💯
I love this so much! Thank you for this wonderful video :)
No problem! 😎🙌💯
peanuts you say
THis is great, what type of Dynamic range are you getting? It looks like 12 stops at least?
Yeah around 12 stops. It's rated 11.2 for RAW Photos, but with the raw video aspect, seems more than that, about 12.1or so.
@@ZeekEOSZ ok so my eos r6 gets approx 13 so no need to rush and get an M.
@@greenlightstudios3469 No rush, unless you absolutely need this look 😉
@@ZeekEOSZ I have a helios and a few vintage lens. I’m sure it’s different then raw video And also I have the moment cinebloom filters that I can get a vintage look through my newer lens. I basically only use auto focus lens though.
@@greenlightstudios3469 I've used and owned the R6, mainly for the channel content. It's a great FF cam for sure. Pop some old glass and you can definitely get great results! 😎👌🔥
Whatnis the filter size for cosmicar pentax 16mm f1.4,?
Another fantastic video from my favorite UA-cam channel! 👍🏼 Love the retro film look and rich color depth you’re able to get with this setup. Beautiful work, very inspiring.
I bought one of these nearly five years ago. Man, I wish I never sold it.
Amazing! These should be framed haha 😆
Excited to try this! Does the eos m have a native iso? What iso values do you feel confident using to maintain a clean image with this sensor?
It's mainly ISO 100/160. I'm comfortable with ISO 400 and below. It's a camera from 2012 so don't expect too much. But fast lenses/speedboosters do help.
I just bought a gh4 , speedbooster and tons of vintage and anamorphic projector lenses. No I'm more interested in canon eosm with lantern... hahaha the S16mm mode is amazing. Thanks for the inspiration! Hope to find a canon eosm body soon.
No problem! 😎👍
Really tripped me out when I saw Parkdale yacht club 😂 I'm a local
Interesting. You can get new footage looking like good old footage but without the analogue scratches and marks on the image.
My latest video has more of an emulation going, but these old S16 lenses are great fun to use 😎👌🍻
I've had that camera for what seems to be a decade now and still love it! Great tutorial, and lovely to see this camera being spoken about today.
Thanks for sharing! It's a gem in the Canon lineup of cameras I reckon, especially with the ML Firmware, makes a totally new camera experience. Even for pure photography, this camera is awesome!
@@ZeekEOSZ Exactly! I was afraid of custom firmware, but tried it out on the M when I got a 6D. It truly unlocks the full potential.
@@BrandonLongwell Cool!
The Firmware is only on the SD card, it never gets installed in the actual camera. No SD Card, means no RAW Video 😉👍🍻
A have a problem with a 8mm C Mount lense. I adjusted crop mode, live view looks good, but the camera doesn't record. When I push the record button nothing happens. Any idea what is wrong? Many thanks Rainer
F*king smoke. THIS IS AWESOME BRO!! 👀
If you had to choose between getting a eos m and getting all the accessories needed for this kit vs getting a 5d M3 and using all my existing L series lenses what would you choose? Also can you use the vintage c mount glass on the 5d in the same you did with the eos M?
C mount glass won't work with the 5D3 or even Canon FD lenses which is why I really like the EOS M. Since you have lots of Canon L lens, the obvious choice would be the Canon 5D3 which is the best ML RAW camera.
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you for the response. Appreciate the content!
Can this be done with a Sony a7iii? Cuz thats what i have
Yep. Depends what focal length though. I have a ZV-E10 and have used 25mm and 50mm C Mount Lenses in S35. They won't work on Full Frame. I've also had the A7C/A7R2, but you need to be in S35 Mode and for wide C Mount lenses like 25mm, you will have to punch In a little bit with clear image zoom.
Could you give some list of S16 lens brand and data. I am very like the image of eos m with S16 LENS. But I am not familiar S16 cine lens. Thanks
Hi @ZeekEOSZ! Thanks for this video, I got some old lenses I'm excited to try out, but am still very new to this. What is the adaptor on the end of the lens? Is that a filter adapter? Is there a specific brand or spec for these types of lenses?
Amazing content, now I want to build myself one like this. What ESO M version should I look for? Thanks
This is the Original EOS M. The only one that is good for RAW Video with ML. The Canon 700D is also good, but less lens choice selection.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks a lot Zeek for the quick answer👍
@@pakazzogaming7727 have you progressed in building that camera?

Thanks for a great video! Completely changes the way I see my camera :D Question, will all of this work with the M6? Or any other camera for that matter?
Love your innovation and enthusiasm with this great little camera Zeek also loved the the statement about the Arri Flex, ; ) I am old enough to say that I have photographed with Suoer 8mm and 16mm film and been through the painful process to produce stock film which I still have in canisters but have been transferred to digital now. This is a great fun project and I love those lenses, thanks for the detailed workflow and showing how easy it is to achieve such great results with the EOSM,.I will have to have a go at this sometime soon, excellent video as always Zeek
Oh yeah, it definitely is quite a process. I love Kodak Film. It's always a pleasure using these C mount lenses! 😎👌🔥
The master doesn't blame the equipment.
hi zeek, thank you. for your content. So on the back on your videos im about to purchase an EOS M and now I really want one of those cosmicar lens. I'm going to morocco next year for my wifes 50th and want to document it for her and that lens has such beauty. Would you be able to help me in where would I be able to find one?
This is impressive. I still think that CCD sensor in the Bolex has more filmic character but this is darn close. Those vintage 16mm lenses have serious pop to them.
I owned a D16 for several years, sold it in the end to pay for food. Its a really good camera, used it mainly on personal creative projects, but commercially the D16 was unable to meet clients 4k expectations. They didn't want art, they wanted profits and 2k seems amateur to someone with no knowledge of the benefits shooting with the Bolex. I can whole-heartedly say that Zeek's set up and rig produces the same sort of visual aesthetics going by what he has shot with it here. Well done. Affordable for everyone and garners great analogue results.
I love the D16! 👌 I'm not too hyped these days about resolution. Of course, if it's your living then you need to be able to meet the clients demands, but for pure hobby, can't go wrong with these fun cameras. 🎥🔥
Zeek, love the tutorial man. Spot on - however it seems that all your links to the items are not available. I would say update those, so other can benefit and you can make some extra coin!
Lol those were updated, looks like these sellers at having some issues. I'll see what I can do 😎👍
Super cool !
Hey zeek, you can use Ulanzi BG-2 Powered Hand Grip, it is the best for EOS M set up.
Do you use it? It seems the 5V isn't strong enough to sustain power for the EOS M. Is it working for you? For me, the only issue would be the really long Dummy Adapter cable.
@@ZeekEOSZ I had tested with two of those battery grip and work fine, one for the EOS M, and one for the Feelworld Display, it is very important to use good quality USB-C cable to the display, the Dummy adapter cable i cut it shorter and reconnect it on the side connect to the battery, i am waiting for the SMALLRIG Ultra-Slim 4K HDMI Adapter Cable coming next few day, once it was done i will post the detail of my build in the facebook group.
@@jxmai7687 good to know! Thanks for sharing 😎👍🍻
Does anyone have a link to the filter adapter he’s using for the cosmicar 12.5mm?
What penuts means
Cheap, my friend.
Does anyone know where to find the cosmicar lens? I can't find the one on ebay
Any way to use the C-amount glasses on Blackmagic Pocket Cameras?
Yes you can, just not the EF Mount ones, only micro four thirds M4/3.
Did you put the metal mount on your 10-18 yourself?
Yes I did. EF-s to EF. I made a video about it.
@@ZeekEOSZ sweet ill check it out, just a few screws right?
@@KoelAnderson Yep!
No Way
Dope video. FoxTail sent me, glad I stumbled across!
😎🙌✅
Fascinating as always and fantastic results... I keep learning with my A6300, but I have not sold my M yet... you keep inspiring me! :)
No problem! I also use these with my Sony ZVE10 with the C Mount Adapter I have and clear image zoom.
what's the exact EOS M is actually using?
@@a6428 the Original EOS M
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks Zeek!!!
Wait... you're saying Cosmicar 12.5mm f1.9 lens but you're holding the Apollo 50mm f1.9 lens at 7:45? 🤔
In the A Roll, I'm holding the Cosmicar, in the B Roll it's the Apollo. They have the exact same body.
Hello anyone here knows the recording time limit for the Eos m with magic lantern? Am looking to get a used one but need a recording time of around an hour. Thanks.n
This is so naturaly color, its looks like 90-2000s movies look nostalgia. Better then new cinema look with unreal colors.
Appreciate it! I was surprised when working with the images in post. I really love the Cosmicar 12.5mm F1.9.
Hey does the f1tp dummy adaptor link is the correct one ? It say that is for the eos m3 ,m5, m6, m50 , but not the m or m2. Or is it the same ?
What are you putting at the end of your lens? Is that a filter for outdoor shoots?
This doesn’t look like 16mm at all
Not 100% but darn good. There are lots of iterations of 16mm, some load lots of grain, some use overlays and distortion, but it's not always about that.
Here is a video shot on S16, it's quite clean compared to what a lot of others perceive as 16mm
