Zeek! Is there a way to get super 16 look on eos m50 without ML? Without tweaking much in post? Perhaps with some lenses? Or say with any other cheap dslr/dslm camera with some lens combination? Someone who cant handle ML workflow?

The pink highlights are just halation, you'll get a much better look for that using something like Film Convert. Brady Besette made a great tutorial on that, which could elevate your work flow I think.

This is great! It’s a bit spendy, but you might want to try out Dehancer Pro if you’re in Resolve. I’ve been chasing film emulation for quite a long time now, and Dehancer is the closest I’ve found in comparison to the few times I’ve filmed real Super-8 and 16mm. Dehancer’s print film emulation, printer lites, and halation are amazing, and definitely a lot better than what’s included in Resolve.
Even if you don’t use their tools, take a look at their videos, they really break down the various elements that make film unique from digital.

I bought dehancer last week, and although it was a hit to the bank account its absolutely Incredible.
I have been able to pull some gorgeous looks without too much work. It also makes matching my bmpcc6k pro and my canon r6 a lot easier as I just apply the same look and change the input camera!
A great investment for many filmmakers.

Hey Zeek. I'm pretty sure I'm about to buy an EOS M as a warm up to me seeing if I have what it takes a film maker. My issue so far is I'm yet to see anyone who is able to record video for longer than 30 mins which would really hinder and kind of podcasting and especially any shoot productivity i.e hiring 2 actors for a day to shoot scenes but only having 30 mins to work with. Have you found a work around for this issue and if not could you suggest a budget cam that meets the same/similar quality but will record for longer periods?
Also, your fb and IG are dead links in case you were not aware. I intended to hit you up on there but this seems to be the only option. Thanks mate !

Thanks Zeek, good to see you always supporting Magiclantern and the EOS M. I really hope, that one day we will see it on M50 and/or EOS R cameras. My data managment with the EOS M is the following: Keep the MLVs (20TB RAID & Longterm store them on affordable LTO-5 Tape). For the active project, I convert everything to CineDNG Uncompressed, because its the fastest conversion and easiest grade. Once project/grading is finished and exported: I delete the CineDNGs. Reason for this workflow: maybe in the future the Magiclantern guys will come up with even better ways to deal with the RAW Data of the MLVs, who knows. By keeping the MLVs I would be ready for any improovements:)

I'd like to see a video of what the footage looks like in 16:9 1080p 30fps with no tricks (other than using Magic Lantern to disable time limits and get that resolution)... no massive RAW files... just the mov or mp4 file straight from the camera SD card dropped into my video editor. No color grading because I never do that. Because that's how I'm going to be shooting and where the settings are going to stay forever once I get them right.
Can you please make a video for people who will actually be using it as a YT camera? I don't care about an old skool film look, that's fine if you're making a film... but I'm not, I can't get my videos into a movie theatre at all ever. I mean who the freak can any more if ever. I'm making nothing but YT videos...

till now I don't have clear understanding how to interpret video in Davinci correctly. I mean...we need to make correct setting during working with RAW video -
    1) Color Space in project settings
    2) Node - Color Space Transform
    3) CAMERA RAW - chose correct space . Are there are not too much SPACE settings???? So...What is actually the step by step movement to only start working with RAW files in Davinchi resolve? All bloggers in you tube are making it by different way, what is correct?
For Canon M Raw Video (Cinema DNG uncompressed or Apple ProRes 4444) =
    1) In project settings in section Color Space - What should we put?
    2) Should we use Node - Color Space Transform? If Yes - why? This is only for Log video as I understood and not for RAW? Or not? Because some people use it with RAW video. Why?? 3) Camera RAW - this is what we need to use all the time. But what is the best for Canon M Raw Video (Cinema DNG uncompressed or Apple ProRes 4444)??? I am verry sorry, really but this questions are not going out from my head and till now I don't understand the right process. Really than you very much if somebody can give me the light on this three things (

Thanks Zeek for another great video. This one of my favourite channels for film making, and has been the most helpful. I love that you help budget filmmakers get great results without spending a fortune. And as a new eos m user I don’t think I could have figured it all out with you. Can I please suggest a video that goes into the different Magic lantern shooting modes in more depth. I know you have already gone over the modes you use, but I’m interested seeing some examples of the other modes you avoid, and why you avoid them, and more explanation about resolution especially with the 5k anamorphic, how it converts to the true resolution when de squeezed. If that all makes sense. Your run through the menu and explications have been helpful, but I would like to see more visual examples of the concepts you explain about different modes. Another topic I would be interested in is an in depth look at the difference between 10 bit, 12 bit and 14 bit. Especially when grading. know there’s a lot there, but they’re just suggestions, if you like, if that gives you some more ideas when making new content. Cheers.

    • @ZeekEOSZ

I'm not sure if you've seen this video, but this one is pretty in depth and goes through all the different modes:
      ua-cam.com/video/MiUaR0FfUXQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Zeek.
As for 10/12/14 Bit, there is barely any difference apart from low light performance. 14 Bit has seemed slightly cleaner than the rest. But if you shoot with those three bit depths, then you will barely notice a difference.

@@ZeekEOSZ I have been on fence to getting this camera, though. I found one here for just $70 and thinking of getting one with a PK-mount to EOSM dummy adapter. Because I have a lot of pentax mount lenses (28mm f2.5, 28mm f3.5, 50mm f1.4, 100mm f4 macro, 200mm f4)
      I mainly shoot with a FUJIFILM X-H1 in 4k, but I'm wondering what the difference is between 8 bit 4k vs 10 - 14 bit 1080p?
Could you share some light on this topic?
I care about sharpness, CA, noise and color artifacts. I haven't really had any problem with my X-H1 with those problems... Actually my only complain is that is too sharp! LOL

    • @ZeekEOSZ
      @ZeekEOSZ  2 роки тому +1

I have free .MLV RAW clips from the EOS M and 2.2K RAW in the description.
CA will depend on the lens. The EOS M is from 2012, so expect some noise with bad exposure or night situations (can be cleaned in post). You will be able to push the colours better with EOS M RAW than Fujifilm. 14 bit has more colours than 8 bit. I shoot with the ZV-E10 and I can get a very good 8 bit out of it. It's actually what I used to shoot this video. EOS M RAW for me is organic. It won't be a workhorse camera, more like an 80's/90's film vibe hobbyist type of camera.

It wasn't recorded in Log. It was recorded with .MLV RAW.

Hi, since you have invested so mutch time with this camera and your work flow, lm wondering, dos the dynamic range of the sensor actually get better with ML in 10-12-14 bit raw then the standered codec.
The reason lm asking is becomes the eos m sensor is nothing special to begin with.
I just want to make a comparison, so take a old nokia phone for example and get raw out of it.
Is the actual video resolt going to be worth all the effort?
Becomes there are plenty of videos showcaseing this camera with the claims of amazing resolts.
I'm just trying to understand if this camera is actually this great or are the owners of this camera and ML just extatic becomes it is very inexpensive, and that there has bin a major effort by ML to convert a plane camera in to a raw capable camera.
    Thank you for your passion.

Zeek hasn't posted here for many months. The footage speaks for itself, obviously. You might want to get your eyes checked. 😅These aren't just claims. *There are tons of EOS M videos that show that this camera can produce amazing footage with the Magic Lantern firmware and the creativity of the user.* You can get up to 13 stops of dynamic range when using dual ISO in the new Crop Mood build of Magic Lantern. No camera in itself is "great," however. *It is how the camera is used that is most important.*

Also has there been any major changes to the fireware? Maybe and updated insilation and overview video would be handy.
ALSO, i noticed that what i pulled the footage off my card and cleared it, magic lantern on the camera kept telling me that is was all still there and i could even see the playbacks.
Is this a known issue or was i pulling the footage off of my camera incorrectly. because it takes such a long time to manually go through each clip and delete it while using the camera.

Depends how serious. I know people who have used it for weddings and client shoots. It depends on the demand of the client. If you haven't had much experience with the camera, I'd say no. There is aliasing in 1080 mode, and is reduced with the higher resolutions. Max resolutions like 2.5K/2.8K are continuous RAW unless you reduce the resolution to about 2.4/2.3K RAW.

Just fantastic Zeek, You are truly amazing.
If I work with Aces I always use three nodes, the input, grading node (middle) and the last one the output.
In that way you have the benefits of Aces grading. Then when I use the offset wheel the exposure is graduated.
Second when I work with Arri, I use the DNG in Davinci Resolve with CST.
Then I feel I have more control over the still Raw footage.
But I gonna give your method a try to see the results. Because your footage looks amazing.
