Great one Zeek! You've been done so much for the community 🙏❤️🙏 Zeek, I'd love to see you doing a.video only shooting in low light. There are lots of people telling that camera sucks in low light and I really don't think it's so bad at all. What do you think about?
You mean lowlight indoors or out at night? I find Davinci Resolve better with handling lowlight noise than MLV App. DaVinci resolve denoiser works like a charm, although I don't use it. Speedbooster and a fast lens is a must for these situations.
Just when I bought my daughter a Canon M6 II and was about to sell off her old EOS-M, I find your channel. Now I am hooked and am keeping that EOS-M! Subscribed for life. Thanks for your excellent teaching.
Zeek, it is a very structured video and I'm 100% sure this will help many like me. Thank you for making this video. I have a few questions. 1. How long(seconds or minutes) EOS M can shoot RAW continuously in various resolutions(2k, 2.5k mode, etc)? 2. What are the modes that Support the Live View of recording? 3. With one fully charged battery how long can record continuously in Raw?
1080, 2k & 5k FRTP are continuous. 2.5K is around continuous @2.35:1/2.39:1 not 16:9 which is up to 15 Seconds. 2.8K raw is up to 15 Seconds, however enabling 240Hz Overclock in tab 3 I have recorded 8 minutes in this mode. It varies. Reducing resolution will help. 1 battery, I can get about an hour.
@TheAverageTechie Yes you could. You would need at least a 256/512GB Card. Shoot 1080 Mode or 5K Anamorphic. The crops in the resolutions are explained in the video with samples.
You absolutely hit the nail on the head for me when you mentioned having your footage look like "The Goonies or Toy Soldiers". I was watching my footage yesterday with MLV and said to myself that it looks like just 35mm film (which I've shot a bit with before), likewise a dream come true! I'm totally bombing your channel Zeek, but I just appreciate your perspective mate! I'll keep watching...
Cheers for the comment! 😎🙌🍻 This camera truly brings a unique perspective to the camera market. Yes of course it has drawbacks, but darn it can deliver the right look with the right grade. Good luck 🎥🔥
Zeek you're a king. Wishing you and your family warm and happy holidays. Just when I think I've watched enough of your tutorials I realize quickly how much more there is to learn. a million thanks. Just finished my first short film with the eos-m. Can't wait to share with you.
Hi Zeek, I watched almost all your episodes, and while Danne and the rest did so much in programming, you did wonderful job bringing the ML to eosm owners. Maybe explaining how to handle manual lenses on a non chipped adapter could be next since a lot of calculations depend on the lens data and therefore alter the image in several ways. BTW note the settings in bit depth to 10, while preview says 14 maybe Danne will be happy to hear about it.
Thanks for the comment 😎👍 Manual lenses on non-chipped adapters are fine though, I use Zeiss Jena Exakta Mount on an EF to EOS M Adapter. I find with Nikon lenses, chromatic aberration are more pronounced. But M42 lenses like Takumar and Chin for example are fine. What do you mean by how to handle? Like avoid the flaws or? About the bit depth, I'll see if I can let Danne know, it's not a huge deal, but it may be worth considering. Cheers 😎👍
I decided to get the ROD M after watching your review. Not just because of the low price but the ability to shoot anamorphic without using an anamorphic lens. Thank you.
Grrreat job, Zeek. I'm going to have to view this tutorial 3 or more times. So much covered. Thanks. Grading RAW, is a most difficult challenge and I really like that you spent time going over Grading RAW in DaVinci, extremely helpful...
Excellent video Zeek, very comprehensive and easy to follow along, bit of a scare when the ML Forums disappeared but back up now and running, hope you keep this resource going as you have so many followers who appreciate what you are doing for the EOS M and us users, great work and love the Davinci content, I am fully into Davinci now on 17 beta and great things happening with this editor have it running currently on an Apple Silicon M1 chip and have achieved some great results and getting really smooth highlight rolloff (Arri?) after following some really great tutorials by other experienced Davinci users, amazing what this camera can do, thanks for sharing your settings Zeek
Thanks Bernard 😉👍 The Eos m raw is always my favourite mini cinema camera, though I'm always interested in testing other cameras too to show what's out there and the footage you can get from other cams. Congrats with the new M1 Silicon chip, should be a blast with DaVinci Resolve 🎥🔥💯
Just wanted to say that I love your videos and I'm really grateful for all the knowledge and tips, you made me buy an EOS M. Looking forward for it to arrive and to start to playing with cinematography with the power of raw.
i have no idea what i'm doing but i'm having a blast lmao just gotta be patient, sometimes i get stuck in menus' and i don't know what's going on, glad i didn't upgrade to big sur on my sisters computer!
You'll get there easily. Testing and playing around is key. You'll get the hang of it. 2.5 & 2.8K are my favourite modes. 1080 & 5K FRTP are also nice. Basic DaVinci Resolve workflow can be found here or on my channel playlist: ua-cam.com/video/hb3iE5djAt0/v-deo.html
Thank's for sharing Zeek. Very nice information. Right now I am working with Davinci 17. Unfortunately the setup is completely different. Also I did not find the Red IPP gamut mapping setting. But I will find out. I want to give you a tip you never spook about as far as I know. If you right click a clip on the timeline in the color page there is a option: clip attributes. With that function you can upscale your clips to 4K. It works perfectly. Thank's again and greetings Richard
Thanks! I'm with 16, but I'll see if it's worth upgrading. Yes I know about clip attributes upscale, though I just don't like it. There are some mushy IQ or information it can create.
Zeek. Thank you for the download at Google. I was getting no where fast. Took me a few minutes to turnoff picture bracketing and my camera took pictures as well as movies. Download works like a charm. Now I can follow your video with my camera.
Great video! Awesome footage at the beginning. I just bought a EOS M and awaiting it's arrival. I'm so excited...this video is awesome and I will revisit it soon. Nice job. Thanks. Be safe-Be well
Hi Zeek, I love this idea of using old Canon cameras with Magic Lantern. If we buy the latest Sony of Canon camera, there is no room for art. But with this idea of using old cameras for building RAW Cinema cameras there is more room for art and creativity. Thank you!
Awesome video as always Zeek, great for sharing with folks we recommend the EOS M to so they know what they are getting into before taking the plunge. Thank you!
Since I started watching you videos I thought about that gorgeous "Goonies like" look, hahah, you nail it!.It also makes it look cinematic AF, I don't like the 60fps 4k look at all, i think it seems like a shopping mall LCD TV demo. I have a question about ML: Can you record with focus peaking activated but keeping the natural colores and exposure you get from the lens/camera? Thanks!
I agree, love that look 😆👌 There is focus peaking, but doesn't work that well. I use LV Digic Peaking which uses live view oversharpening. Works like a treat, very easy to focus. 👍
I love your build but the ISO is locked and it was annoying until i finally found in the video where you semi-mention how to disable this. ( Menu > Movie Tab > Customize buttons > Gain > desired setting ). Its relevant that you mention how to disable this in the notes and maybe edit the video because its could turn others from your build. Maybe, have "aperture+ISO" as default instead of "aperture only" because most are likely changing their aperture and focus, manually. Dude, otherwise this is GREAT! I got rid of my Sony Alpha for this camera and loving it so far. The whole battery issue is a huge problem for me so i'm going to find a bigger 7.2V battery and retro fit it to the camera. I will share a video on how i do it because its just another alternative that might not last as long as the other external options but its will not be as heavy and keep the small form factor.
Which mode was the iso locked? It was originally set to ISO + Aperture on all, so up button for iso, down for aperture. Battery on this things is actually pretty good, I shoot travel short films with just two batteries, although I carry around 4.
@@ZeekEOSZ , idk really but when i tried to change the ISO in the ML menu, it would glitch and change back to ISO 100. For some reason, mine was defaulted to "aperture only". Also, i just realized i didn't download from your Google Drive link so maybe the build is different than the other link you provided in one of your older videos. It seems to be the same things as your Google Drive link but the preset defaults are different.
@@ZeekEOSZ to add, as an IT, SD cards are bit confusing so when its list 170MB/s, that doesnt mean its the writes speeds. It could be 150MB/s read speeds but 20MB/s write speeds in which is too low for even 1080p 8-Bit. You can use a Sandisk Ultra if its has at least 70-90MB/s write speeds. Most do not see the fine print for Sandisk or similar product. it very misleading but most companies do that for profitable reasons. Read speeds are not really important. You can get cheap SD cards with fast write speeds but really slow read speeds.
@@captureinsidethesound I know the packet reads the 170 is for read and around 90/95 for write. I've benchmarked to two in camera with overclocking and for me the 512GB 170MB/s gave the best score. It's not a huge difference and you will be fine with either. I copy a lot of stuff from SD to Desktop so the read speed is important here. Yes companies can be misleading here on purpose.
@@ZeekEOSZ I’m currently using a Sandisk Extreme Plus and the specifications state 60MB/s in which my benchmark @160Mhz reads around that. I think 160Mhz is a safe spot but going over would require some form of cooling support because it gets hot. I really don’t care for 2.5 or 4K. I’m sure if you found a way to add thermal paste to the processor then it would be more stable.
Thanks to you, I got the eos M recently. ML is amazing! I have a question. When I change ISO higher or lower, It always goes back to "200", what shoud I do change ISO? HELP!
I think I'm suffering with information overload. I went through your latest settings video and made all the changes and got some stunning footage. But if I go and change for a different resolution (not a custom mode) it seems to change things. I was wondering, is there any mileage I someone (hint hint) doing a short video on simply how to create a custom mode from scratch? I just opened the .cfg files in a few of your custom modes in a text editor and can see that the settings are all there but can't figure out how they know which base ML mode they apply to. It's all a little confusing when it comes to using custom modes, saving settings etc. Maybe I'm just having a mental block but a "For Dummies" video on how to do these basic things would be totally awesome. One which literally lasts like a minute or something really keeping it simple. Showing creating a custom mode from scratch, renaming it, selecting it in camera (like a quick access thing) and even how to avoid accidentally changing things which knock our settings out of whack. Even how to back up your settings should the need arise to restore because we've buggered the settings up badly. I guess most people just figure it out but for some reason I'm sadly not getting it when it comes to custom modes and the manual doesn't seem to go into detail about it. Yeah it shows how to change things but saving those things. Is that automatic and how do you know it's saved and what mode is it saved to? I would expect that if you were in a custom mode you could change things but it wouldn't actually change the modes permanently until you pressed a button combination to store (overwrite) the custom mode. Otherwise you could accidentally change something and your mode would be wrecked so how do you get back to the original settings that you saved in that custom mode? camera.
Hey, it's okay. I have done so many settings videos on this cam, other videos have ML Builds for the EOS M that don't have custom modes. And even in this video, with this build, nobdy is obliged to use the custom modes. You can disable them, and just change in camera at any time the different modes e.g.g 1080, 2.5k, 2.8k etc, by tapping the screen once and selecting a preset. This video will give background knowledge around each preset I use, but you don't have to set those custom modes. You can in ML Tab 6/7 disable ML Configs which will reset all settings without uninstall. To adjust each custom mode, just enter it, e.g. custom mode 1, select the preset for that mode e.g. 1080 mode, and then set your settings, when you reset the camera, all those settings will be saved. It says below "reset" and the settings you have set will be enabled for that custom mode.
That Sand Close Up shot....*DEAD* That was with the FD-EF macro adapter? Will you talk more about the 2K 1:1 mode soon? I was hoping to see more about it in this video..
That was with the Canon 24-70 Macro mode, but the FD Macro Adapter would work exactly the same way. Especially with an FD 24mm. For the 2K mode, it's exactly like the 2.5k mode but with a slightly tighter crop. If you do wildlife and want the extra crop or continuous recording, then that would be the choice, otherwise 2.5k would give more resolution overall.
This is my favorites topic in your channel, very time it update a tested (by Zeek) ML version and made me have deeper understanding of my EosM. Just one little thing want to share with you also, in your new attached build , the SD card override have been setting to 190mhz as default in every CM(s). it may cause unstable video (amount of pink frames , even with 1080 settings in my case), the result is really depends on each EosM or SD card hardware. but if any one have similar case, set "SD card override" to 160 mhz may fix the problem :)
@@ZeekEOSZ Yes, i think it may related with my hardware. Just found another thing of this build to confirm, seems the default fps has been changed to 25 (just test in 1080 mode), have to set override to 24. not so sure about it ,,,
Good to see everyone enjoying the beginning of summer at St. Kilda beach again. Like your style of tutorials. Ever thought about doing tutorials about editing and colour grading in DaVinci resolve? This would be really interesting to me
Yes indeed. 😎👌 I've done a previous editing tutorial in Davinci Resolve you can see on the channel playlist and there is also one in this video at 19:09. Shows my grading workflow in DR 🎥💯🔥
Thanks Zeek. Your tutorial on colour grading is so easy to follow. You even covered LUTS which is great. Could your project settings suit other types of cameras? I use a Lumix G9. .
@@ZeekEOSZ I'm only new at this so I have been dabbling into the free version of DaVinci resolve. Never looked at Final Cut Pro as I thought this was suited to Mac's. I use the latest Dell XPS 15 but I'm getting choppy/ slow playback or GPU memory full issues in Resolve. Hence why I asked about your settings. When I render my footage it's fine. But it slows me down dramatically when I colour grade or add layers, etc.
Ah right. Your Laptop should definitely be good enough! What is your GPU? Nvidia? Maybe it falls below GPU requirements. Then again, ALL-I is quite strong, I had a GH5 it was quite hard with playback. My lumix S5 is Long GOP, it works much smoother. External Recorder via Ninja V prores is smooth too.
Hi @zeek, you mention a drawback being some aliasing in 1080p mode. can you talk a bit more about that or point me to where you discuss that in a video?
Love you videos, and excited about the EOS M. I recently purchased one, but got the M3 when I thought I had bought an M2. Should I keep the M3, or consider returning it and getting the M or M2?
Hello Zeek. Thanks to you I became the owner of eos m :) I learn everything from you practically, I have a question, what is the setting of the final render of the movie, you have never shown it in any movies :)
@@jimmyjim9824 I export from Davinci as ProRes 422 or 4444XQ for more work in FCPX, this was shown in my other DaVinci Resolve workflow video. After FCPX it's quicktime.
@@ZeekEOSZ yes yes i know it, i watch all your movies. my questions are that I will be using davinci as the main program. If you also used it as your main preset, would be h.264 quicktime? what about bitrate in the quality tab in render settings? I'm thinking about using 35-40k Kb / s but is it not too much for UA-cam?
Hallo Zeek, great! I can't find the vid where is explained the powerbank solution. Does the Eos M accept (and run while charging) on most of powerbanks?
Holy s* that are some great shots. looks like red with a little less resolution. very, very filmic. i guess that is the better choice in comparison to bmpcc. how long does one battery pack last and is the display bright enough ? these are definitely the weak points of the bmpcc - bad power supply and bad display.
one battery pack lasts me about an hour or so. Depends how you use it e.g. turn it off after each shoot or powersave options. The display is bright enough for sure. I normally cary max of three small batteries, it's great. Every camera has it's quirks but I've used this camera long enough to love it!
Ah Zeek, this may be the longest; but it's one of the greatest. Editing is on point, and the content and the real sharing of your experience and learning is on full display. Next request: How to match images from EOS M w/ML with EOS M50. I often have to put together footage from the two when I have use the M50 for it's dual-pixel autofocus (eg. gimbal). I also use DaVinci Resolve.
Appreciate it 😎🙌 I use two, one basic black metal M42 to EF and then another one called an M42 Type 2 Adapter for lenses where you need to holds a button or lever on order to change the aperture, like Zeiss Jena lenses.
Hey, have the magic lantern guys ever attempted to hack the c100/c300. I'm guessing canon would destroy them as it could affect their newer cinema line.
Great video here, I like when you go in depth about things, this has really demystified a bunch of the settings that i've been fumbling with trial-and-error. I think it would be nice to have a comparison video of the EOS-M without Magic Lantern vs with ML. You seem to hint on some of the advantages, like when you are recovering highlights in resolve, you kind of hint that its not as easy to do that with regular EOS software? I just sometimes like to be re-assured that my hard work is paying off!
Thanks a lot 😎👍 to be honest, if I had to use the 1089 H.264 on the EOS M, I simply wouldn't use the camera. Quality difference is night and day. I'd rather use a smartphone. That's why I don't bother, but I mean I can definitely construct a comparison video between the two.
@@ZeekEOSZ I know its not your job to point these things out. But I see the EOS-M, because of its price point, an entry camera for many people, and maybe many of us don't really understand how powerful this little beast is. The 1080 h264 has been light years better than anything I own, and after all the hassle of shooting in raw I can't quite see any difference yet, but maybe if you, or some other channel could point out the advantages of RAW and show examples etc that could help convince me to shoot RAW vs H264...
It will be great if you could explain how to use the eos M as a streaming cam . I do not know if is cleaning the hdmi with magic lantern will be all needed. What is the quality of the HDMI outside of EOS M
Nice tutorial for good raw video. Very need tutorial how to get perfect photo with eos m + ml + raw + color corrections . Does ml works with raw photo?
Am loving the hell out of your channel man, got me a EOS M because of your vids! One problem tho: My ISO stays on auto when I film and I cant get it to be static at all.. What do i do?
Cheers! In the midst of my other high priced cameras, this is one of my favs. Pull out the SD, press the info button to enter ML Dashboard and then on the top right change from Auto Exposure to Manual Exposure. Let me know😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks for getting back to me! My EOS M with Magic Lantern LCD goes all glitchy and unresponsive on any other mode apart from 1080p! I got the build from one of your latest videos and followed it step by step?! Any advice will be gladly received!
This video shows part two and goes through hands-on with the other modes, the build I used is also in the description: ua-cam.com/video/-Ayz_rlniVk/v-deo.html
Yes you can. I have that lens. Any setting is fine! I like 2.5K or 2.8K. The Upscaled 5K FRTP Mode is nice to avoided moire or aliasing found in the 1080 Mode.
Looks great! One question: if ML requires firmware 2.02 but the latest firmware has been 2.03 for years now, how do I get the older firmware version on my EOS M? It does not appear to be available on the Canon site and the sites that offer firmware 2.02 want me to install software - dubious!
I used to get it from here. It works fine: drivers.softpedia.com/get/SCANNER-Digital-CAMERA-WEBCAM/CANON/Canon-EOS-M-Camera-Firmware-202.shtml Place it on the card and update FW.

Awesome vid Zeek! I'm looking for a camera setup to shoot cinematic 4x3 aspect ratio videos that I can use in my 4x3 gopro edits. I noticed you briefly touched on this cameras ability to shoot 4x3 aspect ratio for anamorphic. If I use this camera to shoot 4x3 (academy, not anamorphic) , what resolution can I expect? And will the video file be 4x3 or will I need to crop it in post? Thanks for any info you can share on the cameras 4x3 abilities!
Hey Zeek... great video, I just ordered an EOS M from ebay. Question. I shoot on a GH5, Vlog, with FD and C-mount lenses and record to a Ninja V in ProRes 422. Would I be able to send RAW to the Ninja or am I better off using a non raw signal? BTW... I edit with Resolve on a PC.
Hi Zeek, great content thanks for sharing, I've been looking to purchase an EOS M but only seem to see EOS M50/ M5/M6 etc. Is the EOS M the original model? Will other alternative models load Magic Lantern?
Hi Zeek, viewer from Hong Kong. Your content is really helpful for me to get into ML Raw. I was wondering if you have ever experienced corrupted frames (Pink frame in the corner)in the last build? Why does it happened, and how do you solve it? Thank you for all the great work!
It usually happens when the camera performs under pressure or if you use a monitor it can sometimes also Happen. I normally see it in high fps mode. I barely see it in any other mode. I use SanDisk Extreme PRO cards and they work really fine. Other slower cards will come across more issues.
Hey Zeek, thanks a lot for your amazing videos. I am considering getting a camera just to make some short movies for myself and I think I will go for this one due to the amazing film effect you can get and the various lenses you show on the various videos, but I also need to do some videos for a work that will be projected on a wall. I was wondering if you had some remarks on that (video quality for projections) and also what you think of spending a little bit more and getting something slightly better (if it is), perhaps the following eos m models like eos m200? Thank you in advance for your time and help
Been following your channel closely. You've helped a lot and replied to almost all my comments. Do you offer remote tutoring? I have had this camera for 6 months now and haven't shot a single raw video, I cannot get it to not drop frames while recording or i get pink frames or some other annoyance like shakey image on the view finder or even a half pink or fully pink stuck frame in the viewfinder. The moment i turn off raw all those problems go away and all my x264 footage looks a million times better than the raw shots i've taken. I'm willing to pay for a remote zoom session or something, maybe its something trivial i'm doing that I cannot get it right! HELP!
SD Card is crucial. Avoid fake models if possible. I use Sandisk Extreme PRO 64 & 512GB. Other slower cards can cause problems. Download the build I use in this video: ua-cam.com/video/-Ayz_rlniVk/v-deo.html It's more simplified!
Hi Zeek. Your videos are amazing. I have subscribed to your channel. Quick question. With a similar lens on both the Panasonic GH3 1080@24fps vs Canon EOS-M with ML build 1080@24FPS both with their respective 7artisians 25mm @1.8f, the GH3 performs better in low light. I am still getting grain on the EOS-M at low light. Is there something I am doing wrong?
I've used the GH3 before. GH3 Shoots compressed H.264 Video, therefore the noise is more difficult to see being compressed, as opposed to using Magic Lantern RAW which is untouched data straight from the sensor where you will get more noise. This can be fixed in post via denoiser e.g. neat video, or by transcoding or exporting the footage as H.264. The grain on the EOS M RAW in my opinion looks filmic.
Hey Zeek, I just installed Magic Lantern on my eos M but it seems to lack some features in the movie menu. I tried to enable all the modules like I read on a forum, but I still can't see the presets or the aspect ratio and all that stuff. Do you have any suggestions on how to make them appear?
In the higher resolutions I find it does better, O have no issues. I use fast lenses, iso 100 and speedboosters and it works like a charm! In my latest video with a gimbal I shot in low light inside Crown Casino, it was fine 🎥🔥💯
Zeek absolutely amazing video! Was looking for a cheapish cinema camera on a budget and this blew all other contenders out of the water, 1/3 the price. I was wondering about the 8 minute scenes you mentioned. What resolution is this in? Also, does the 240hz overclock limit the lifespan of the card? Thanks a million for your work. Subbed! G
You can shoot any resolution continuous, except with 2.5K/2.8K. The resolution can be dialed back to achieve Continuous Raw. E.g. 2.5K Raw 2.35:1 is continuous, 16:9 isn't. So with 16:9, reduce the 2.5K Resolution to say 2.2K, and then you will get Continuous etc.. same applies to 2.8K Mode, though which only shoots at 2.35:1. This came for me is a no-brainer. 😎👌🎥🎬🔥
@@ZeekEOSZ Great so continuous is doable at 2.2k raw. Hope you don't mind me asking a few more questions before I click buy. I have a 5 MK2, have you had any experience with MAG LANTERN on these? Will my Tamron and other ef lenses work if I get an ef to eos m adapter?
hey zeek, thanks, really good video ;) can I ask you: 1. the LUTs you presented from "3D professional LUTs", where do I get them? 2. The LUTs are based on what color profile? On Cinestyle you were shooting on, or another one, like the RED profile you mentioned in davinci? 3. I have a 5d mark III with ML (I used to have a eos m as well though), I reckon following your instructions, the footage I get with ML and proper postpro would look even better than on the eos M, right? kind regards
Those 3D Professional LUTs are what they're called, if you search them on UA-cam. I believe the brand is Lutify or something like that. Those LUTs are for Rec 709 Profiles not Log like Slog or RedLog etc. I haven't used the 5D3 in ages, but it should get you really good results.
@@ZeekEOSZ ah okay thanks for the info! but in what picture profile do you shoot? cinestyle, neutral canon picture profile? and how do you convert it to rec709 before applying the LUT you mentioned? :D
@@ZeekEOSZ ahh, makes sense! so my cinestyle profile is not active when I shoot in ML raw. Got it! thanks but in what color space do you have it before applying the aforementioned LUTs? sorry If I don't understand everything^^
@@0oTHEJACKo0 When you put the files in DaVinci, you can encode the raw data to LOG. From there I just base correct it to a Rec 709 Color space, by correcting the highlights, shadows and microbes, then apply the rec 709 LUTs.
Are You sure for setting Arri Log in Timeline Color Space? Not Rec.709 Gamma 2.4? If You use Rec 709 in Timeline Color Space and Output Color Space, You see "on live" ending effect (that I think so)?
I made a previous DaVinci Resolve workflow with Colette Rec 709 Gamma 2.4, that's a basic method for beginners, very simple and quick but footage comes out great. This new one is what I've been using mostly, and the footage comes out really good 😎👍
Dear Zeek, I would be obliged for help with the following: the product description of the Metabones EF to EOS-M Speedbooster says "VIdeo Digital IS on supported camera bodies". In your experience, does this enable image stabilization on the EOS-M running Magic Lantern if one attaches on it stabilized EOS lenses via the Speedbooster ? Or the Viltrox one ? If not, is there any way at all to achieve image stabilization on this camera when it runs ML ? Thank you so much for sharing all this expertise.
Thanks for the video Zeek! Loving the content. I went out and got me a sandisk extreme pro (ready for that 2,5k action) but after i installed ML on the card, the resolution for the 2,5k settings wont go higher than 0x0 for some reason. Im stuck out here bro😢
Hi Zeek! When you say that with "HD 1080p" mode the crop factor is the usual 1.6 x crop, do you mean it's the same image coverage/aspect ratio we get without using Magic Lantern - 1920 x 1080, but in raw format?
Everytime you're changing settings it seems like it will break and crash. But it seems normal since you just ignore it. I'm planning to get an EOS M. 😁
It's like Canon accidentally made a mini cinema camera without realizing it
Thanks to ML Developers 😎👋 Missed opportunity for Mini Z Cam like Cam 😜👉🎥🔥
Right. I immediately thinked to the SIGMA FP 😆 this is the version for the folks
That's why they Discontinued making it for a low price.
Possibly the best usage and output tutorials of any EOS M with Magic Lantern user. Alway inspirational for me and my work. Thanks Zeek.

Zeek, I'd love to see you doing a.video only shooting in low light.
Hi Zeek can the magic lanter be installed on the canon eos m50? Or do you know when it will be available?
@@vendelbalizs5075
No it can't. A Developer would have to be motivated to code it through.
Just when I bought my daughter a Canon M6 II and was about to sell off her old EOS-M, I find your channel. Now I am hooked and am keeping that EOS-M! Subscribed for life. Thanks for your excellent teaching.

So glad i kept my M for so long, I’ve been using your build settings and getting awesome results. Thanks for being a resource Zeek. Much appreciated.
Awesome to hear, it's the best camera for learning about filmmaking on a budget. Good luck 😎👍🎥🔥
How would this compare to a EOS 100D/SL1 with Magic Lantern? They are both DIGIC 5, but I'm wondering if there any performance differences.
This is the kind of video I was looking for. Finally found it after 2 months of research
Great! 😉👉
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you
@TheAverageTechie
Yes you could. You would need at least a 256/512GB Card. Shoot 1080 Mode or 5K Anamorphic.
The crops in the resolutions are explained in the video with samples.
Awesome footage zeek mine should be in the mail tomorrow thanks for all the tips and techniques for those of us who can't afford black Magic and c70s👍

Thanks for the comment 😎👍
Manual lenses on non-chipped adapters are fine though, I use Zeiss Jena Exakta Mount on an EF to EOS M Adapter. Cheers 😎👍

Hi Zeek, I love this idea of using old Canon cameras with Magic Lantern. If we buy the latest Sony of Canon camera, there is no room for art. But with this idea of using old cameras for building RAW Cinema cameras there is more room for art and creativity. Thank you!
I used Sony A7C to record myself in this video, but yes, Old ML Capable cameras are still very good. Especially for budget raw video.
Awesome video as always Zeek, great for sharing with folks we recommend the EOS M to so they know what they are getting into before taking the plunge. Thank you!
Thanks! This camera deserves the exposure 🎥💎
Thanks!
I agree, love that look 😆👌
There is focus peaking, but doesn't work that well. I use LV Digic Peaking which uses live view oversharpening. Works like a treat, very easy to focus. 👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Oh, thats a magic lantern feature, cool. thanks!
@@captureinsidethesound
I know the packet reads the 170 is for read and around 90/95 for write.
HELP!
In tab 3, down the bottom, customised buttons, change to ISO + Aperture and use the up and down wheel to change.

Why no one recommended this as the best cheapest camera before, how did i not see this video before omg
😆 it's an awesome hobby camera 😎👌
Another excellent well thought out video, keep up the great work Zeek
Cheers Chris 😎👍🎥
This is my favorites topic in your channel, very time it update a tested (by Zeek) ML version and made me have deeper understanding of my EosM. Just one little thing want to share with you also, in your new attached build , the SD card override have been setting to 190mhz as default in every CM(s). it may cause unstable video (amount of pink frames , even with 1080 settings in my case), the result is really depends on each EosM or SD card hardware. but if any one have similar case, set "SD card override" to 160 mhz may fix the problem :)
Thanks, and glad to hear! :) SanDisk Extreme PRO is always recommended, but if you have slower cards, set bit depth to 10 Bit.
@@ZeekEOSZ Yes, i think it may related with my hardware. Just found another thing of this build to confirm, seems the default fps has been changed to 25 (just test in 1080 mode), have to set override to 24. not so sure about it ,,,

Do you grade your Footage in Davinci or FCPX for the G9? I mainly grade my Lumix S5 footage in FCPX.

Hello Zeek.
Thanks to you I became the owner of eos m :) I learn everything from you practically, I have a question, what is the setting of the final render of the movie, you have never shown it in any movies :)

@@ZeekEOSZ yes yes i know it, i watch all your movies. my questions are that I will be using davinci as the main program.

Nope!

Hey Zeek... great video, I just ordered an EOS M from ebay. Question. I shoot on a GH5, Vlog, with FD and C-mount lenses and record to a Ninja V in ProRes 422. Would I be able to send RAW to the Ninja or am I better off using a non raw signal? BTW... I edit with Resolve on a PC.
Hi Zeek, I would like you to recommend a low budget for the Canon EOS M for beginners
You mean lens? In that case 7Artisans 25mm F1.8 or Canon FD lenses with the FD to EOS M Speedbooster.
Hi Zeek, great content thanks for sharing, I've been looking to purchase an EOS M but only seem to see EOS M50/ M5/M6 etc. Is the EOS M the original model? Will other alternative models load Magic Lantern?
Only the M & M2 have ML. The M has more modes and is more current. I wish the M50 was developed.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks for the info!
Hero vid many thanks! you’re awesome!
No problem 👍
Great content. I have the Nov 20 2020 eosm202 build installed. Is it possible to add modules to the buid? It is the ettr module I am after.
Thanks.
Thanks :) You can add the ETTR module, but I believe it's there 1st tab? Not home to double check.
Download the build I use in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/-Ayz_rlniVk/v-deo.html
It's more simplified!
Very interesting topic, Do you have any video about external RAW recording to like Ninja V?
Only internal RAW is available. I have a Ninja V but there is no response.
The build I use are linked in the description. The ML website are older ML builds. 😎👍
How does it go in lower light?
Subbed!

@@Gavimn ML is available for the 5D2

Yes EF to EOS M Adapters will work fine 😎👌
hey zeek,
thanks, really good video ;)
can I ask you:
1. the LUTs you presented from "3D professional LUTs", where do I get them?
@@0oTHEJACKo0
I shoot Raw, there are no in-baked picture profiles.lr processing, raw is raw, I shot using Magic Lantern Raw and exported as DNG Raw.
@@ZeekEOSZ ahh, makes sense! so my cinestyle profile is not active when I shoot in ML raw. Got it! thanks
but in what color space do you have it before applying the aforementioned LUTs? sorry If I don't understand everything^^
@@0oTHEJACKo0
When you put the files in DaVinci, you can encode the raw data to LOG.
ML has nothing to do with IS. Stabilisation from my experience works with both the Viltrox and metabones speedbooster. 😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Just watched your videos on IS and modified lenses. All clear now. Thanx.
Great 🎥👌
Will this work Davinci Resolve 17?
Yep
Thanks for the video Zeek! Loving the content. I went out and got me a sandisk extreme pro (ready for that 2,5k action) but after i installed ML on the card, the resolution for the 2,5k settings wont go higher than 0x0 for some reason. Im stuck out here bro😢
No problem! Send me a screenshot to my Facebook/Instagram. :) Check that your in movie icon on top of eos m and not photo.
Hi Zeek! When you say that with "HD 1080p" mode the crop factor is the usual 1.6 x crop, do you mean it's the same image coverage/aspect ratio we get without using Magic Lantern - 1920 x 1080, but in raw format?
Exactly 👍
Everytime you're changing settings it seems like it will break and crash. But it seems normal since you just ignore it. I'm planning to get an EOS M. 😁
Man, I've had this camera for years, the amount of stuff this cameras been through, I'm amazed how it's still alive 🤣
@@ZeekEOSZ great! Anyway, what's your exposure techniques, do you ETTR or just expose right in the middle of the histogram?
@@GlennUpgraded Used to be Exposure Value, ETTR, now it's mainly by eye/zebras and histogram if I need to double check.
Glenn, you _better_ get an EOS M, or else, hehe! 😅🙏🏾☮️
@@FilmSpook I just got one the other day! I'm excited to play with this little beast!
I'm already thinking if I should get another one or what. 😂
