@@dslrvideoshooter that was awesome! I'm POSITIVELY going to cobble a Guerilla Rig like that one for my Sony a6000/a6400. That is the run & gun set-up I need now. But if YOU were to put something together and share it with us, I won't be mad....
It's strange to think that a non-videographer has seen this video at least half a dozen times. I'm amazed at how loving and functional this small, but fine creation of a video rig is. A successful temptation for getting started in videography.
That’s how I started, I remember just watching camera reviews of the micro blackmagic, bmpcc and canon with no intention of owning a camera. And Now I own the bmpcc4k and into cinematography.
2:52 If you ask smallrig and pay an additional setup fee (not much I believe) they will produce discontinued parts for you. For an additional fee they’ll even anodise them in different colours to black.
I own two Sigma FPS and I absolutely love them. The other cool thing with this setup being so small is it could be easily converted to a webcam super fast as the ofp connects via USB C to your computer and is recognized right away as webcam
This is low-key revolutionary. As indie filmmakers and content creators, we're either trying to make our tiny cameras look beefier with a cinema rig or larger cameras more compact with minimal accessories. This is taking a different direction, with a tiny camera and a tiny rig 😂. It's cute, does everything a larger rig does, but you can actually use it when travelling or if you really need to shoot a film in stealth mode. The bigger your setup, the bigger the reaction you get from people when you bust it out. You don't always want the attention. I never want it tbh.
I love the fp - I work with her over a year now. Just one thing about the Samsung SSDs: if you want to shoot in 4k ALWAYS use the T5! The T7 is too slow! So if you try to record with the T7 in 4k after about one minute recording will stop (reason: the cache reached its limit). If you do not believe me try it for yourself.
Love the tiny build. For ingesting the uncompressed DNG's using Slimraw allows for all types of compression (lossy, lossless, 3:1, 7:1, etc) and also enables Premiere compatibility. Dark Power Labs also has some great tiny cage designs and ssd solutions.
Caleb, idk if you read many comments these days, but I just wanted to let you know that I've just wrapped production on my first short film in three years, and your tutorials were so useful in getting this project made. All the best dude, you're awesome
I think the new Panasonic S5IIX would be a great candidate for a custom build like this with its 6k raw external recording, still smallish size, and internal stabilization
@@chikenfoot7253 Yes you could? The s5iix can record to external SSD. If you want to also run a external recorder for raw, you can send that footage to the SSD as well
Exactly why i'm here! It's tempting to do something similar, but I'm thinking down the line, there will be options for the S5IIX /External SSD holders.
Caleb is the sole reason I sit for hours at a work bench making camera rigs, only for him to then come out with another BANGER rig and I buy all the parts!
Nice!! I have an alternate workflow to reduce size and maintain raw capability: buy the slimraw plugin! I use it to offload footage from my sd card to convert bmpcc (og) dng into compressed raw up to 7:1. Resolve handles them perfectly similar to braw. Transcoding them is almost the same speed as copying them. Slimraw also supports sigmafp footage. Cannot recommended them enough
Your playlist of rigs for every possible budget and scenario are priceless. Hope you're getting paid enough for all your tireless efforts and time bro. God bless you.
The cutest, cleanest, littlest cinema rig. I would never use it (just not my workflow/style) but I love watching your videos. Thanks for the heads up on those cable clips. I'll have to check it out.
WOW! it is tiny! I love the look of this small Build. The Idea with the cable sleeve is brilliant and I would go with it for my next build for the clean look. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us.
This is so super cool. The one only thing I'd look into is having a right-angle on the HDMI cable on the monitor end so it doesn't stick out the side. Such a cool little setup tho.
sorry man but Caleb's channel has nothing to do with the film industry or even film production. His channel is basically 100 percent video production, and mainly gear related...that's why it's so popular on UA-cam
I did not know such a camera could save the file directly to an external SSD drive. This make the transfer of file obsolete as you can connect it directly to your computer and work immediately. Thank you for your search and thank you for sharing it. This is brillant.
Great video man. That is one cool battery dock too. I believe the Sigma fp is the best "sleeper" camera on the market today. Agreed that it is a small 12bit DNG , BM RAW, ProRes RAW, and superb still image camera that just works. I also strip it down and use it as a light weight FF travel camera with native Sigma L-mount F2 lenses.
Have you done Heat test with using SAMSUNG SSD?? That looks you cannot release heat while you filming outside in summer. I really liked the minimum setup though.
Best creator on the platform for years. Love this video and love the creativity you bring to all of these cinema rigs. Reminds me of when I would build with legos. The endless amount of possibilities makes this a life long activity.
Very interesting and inspiring! Since it's a Sigma camera, you could also use a Blackmagic Video Assist as a monitor and record in BRAW, which would speed up the workflow and reduce file size.
Can you make a beginner budget rig similar to the style of this? I know this hobby/ field is expensive to get into but would love to start with a budget friendly setup.....maybe with a camera from your $300 camera video?
That's up there with your video on The Perfect Rig! Great Video and now I just want to build one my self.. I love the fact that it's soooo compact and full frame! Thanks for this!!!!
Love how that looks, but how do you access the camera buttons below the screen and control the menu? How is the battery life with that bigger sony battery?
I love this! I’m still a little ways of from having a full cinema rig. I think I’m going to go this route! You seriously just blew my mind with the awesomeness of this rig! I’ll definitely be looking into this cam!
Love everything about this video. I would recommend the Sigma DG DN 35mm f/2 and skip the mini matte box. It would really reduce the size and weight of this rig while adding AF.
Fantastic! -- any hope of a gimbal-focused follow-up on this? It would also be neat to see the total price tag of this + a few other basic lenses for a mini cinema kit.
Excellent ideas and construction. I do believe this is the future of cinema cameras. A marriage of the smartphone and larger sensor size to accommodate good glass. You're very close to a Komodo setup.
This is just brilliant. Watching this breakdown has sparked so many crazy, new ideas for a custom compact cinema rig of my own. Thanks so much for sharing, Caleb!
Hey recent film graduate here! I found your channel while shopping for equipment, looking for the best affordable rigs. You have been an absolute inspiration for me as a developing artist and freelancer. I watched your ultimate camera rig video and literally bought everything in it, haven’t regretted anything. Please make some vids on the lumix s5, I have two of them right now but I will be getting the s5ii eventually, I would love to learn more about how to maximize it’s potential with shooting and rigging. Thanks Caleb!
Great build! I’d love to get this put together for my FP-L! Does the monitor control camera settings? Otherwise how would I be able to change things up in the field?
Caleb! Great video! I know you aren’t a huge fan of the BMPCC 6k Pro, but I’d love to see you tackle a minimalistic cinema rig for that camera with your expert rigging skills!
Question: With the SSD Dock and Battery Plate flushed against the Sigma FP's LCD Screen, how do you transmit the camera's User Interface and see settings adjustments? Is there perhaps a setting I am unfamiliar with to transmit to full LCD UI via HDMI to an external monitor?
I'm circumnavigating by boat in a couple of years time. Merit of the connections from my 9 to 5 means I'm going to have some great access to some places in the world that others don't, so I'll be documenting the whole thing. I think I've just found a sensible rig I can use. The bonus is that it's sensible enough to be able to have a couple backups. You sir. You. You're the fucking man.
The is the best setup ever! I'm super into small rigs and this is the best I've ever seen. The implementation is similar to what I use already, Npf plate to power a GH5 and Ninja V with custom power cables. Having the Fp and portkeys is so beautifully compact! That handle is great too! Good work as always

Thanks James! I feel like I should honestly chill out on reviews and just make stuff. It is really what makes me tick.
