Great demo John, don't forget you could tie some hitches in the rotten bottom to weaken it,if you needed to !!! And you gave me an idea for you for a future one,how to make your own weights.
- Ive considered the "how to make weights" vide but its been done before many times and to be honest its a ball ache. Not worth the time and expense when I can buy the in bulk from guys who do make them. 😉
Hi John, as you say the weight is probably the most expensive bit , i started my sea fishing in west wales, a very rocky area where you lost loads of tackle, one tip i picked up from an old boy was to use used sparkplugs as the weights, most vehicle garages just chuck them in the bin so if you ask nicely they will keep them aside for you and you get free weights :) I always soak the ones i get in a parrafin bath for atleast a week to remove any harmful oil. The ground electrode can be bent down onto the center electrode and held with a dab of solder to form an eye 👍🏻
I have tied this rig, and I caught three fish. Small species from the side of the pier. Nonetheless it gave me confidence with my tying abilities and catching. So thank you for doing this for all us fishers.
Never thought about floating beads before now thats a great idea i will try around west Wales and especially around lands end when I can get down cheers john 👍
I’ll have to try that twizzle boom thing, if I can work out how to do it! - I’ve been using circle hooks for wrasse, as they don’t get stuck in the rocks.
Not got any floating beads knocking about, but I have got some of those colourful sponge ear defender plugs and a fine baiting needle from my trout fishing days... Think they would work instead of the beads on the snood???
Great informative vid, especially the off-cut/recycling tip. I can’t though figure out what prevents the twisted boom untwisting from the hook end and returning to just doubled line. What is good bait for this rig ?
And now I know what I have to make to put in my tackle bag, AGAIN LOL And just maybe I have too ask my ms to sew me an new one, I just have to designe it first so I can get all my traces organized when Im going fishing again :D Making something out of others "trash" is something I like the most, saving money and sometimes big money on that. Do you have an good idea on transporting rods in the back of a car? I have played with an idea to use straps to hang in the back (I have a hilux) so they dont slide around in the back or a rod rack of some sort. Have a good one mate :D
Hi John, thanks for another amazing video. So after i have been mackerel fishing at West Bexington in Dorset since September last year, i have discovered my absolute love of fishing (as a teenager) again and I now have two beach casters (long story). I would like to try fishing for other fish other than mackerel (thanks to your videos), So my question in a long winded way.. Would this set up work for catching other species where you leave your line sat in the water? Again thank you so much for all the effort you put in.. Its truly appreciated. Mike in Somerset
Do you always try and make your traces lighter than your main line so it doesn’t snap your main line - thanks for the video and about to watch you catch the wrasse
Search for "Rotten bottom links" for the ones John uses in this video. "Canny Links" such as the ones made by Tronixpro incorporate a clip to clip down your hook snood.
Make your own slinky weights then you would have 50 times less snags than that regular weight you used on the video! Save you a lot of hassle and time in having to deal with snagged sinkers! And save you a ton of money to boot!
millions of little joey mackerel showing south-east A lot not much bigger than sprats Not feeling right killing little fish was beaten by the bait possibilities of such perfect baits Kind of weird being so small I bet the bass are smashing them eh you all be healthy
- Here is the link to a Wrasse Fishing session showing the rig in action. 😉👍🏻🎣🐟 ua-cam.com/video/o69SiE6faMM/v-deo.html
Another good video. Would this rig work for sea bass?
I’m asking because where I fish in Devon it’s overrun with crabs so I need a rig that will keep my worm of the sea bed. Thought this might work?
- If there was a bass down in amongst the kelp then likely
- Ahh ok. Then yes, but make the snoods longer.
The Fish Locker Workshop ok cheers mate 👍 take care.

Have you ever tried using stones to save the costs of loosing leads? You can epoxy loops onto them very easily, and nice job when you can't get out.
Your kitchen looks awesome.
I always come back here a couple times a year

Thank You for the information ,, esp the rig ,,
Learning so much, thank you!
Managed to make the rig after a few attempts, made 5 rigs (3 with 2/0 and 2 with 1/0), I go tomorrow wrassing. Will let you know how I got on.
I used this rig down at Portland Bill last week, my god did I lose some gear down there 😅, caught some nice wrasse though.
Not got any floating beads knocking about, but I have got some of those colourful sponge ear defender plugs and a fine baiting needle from my trout fishing days... Think they would work instead of the beads on the snood???
- You can give it a try. 🤷🏻♂️
Great tutorial ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brilliant, saves me on booms👍👍

- I go to the carpet warehouse and get any old cardboard tubes. 😉
Does the use of bead size make the rigs more aerodynamic and easier to cast.
gonna try that, with some beads👌
Great video you should you hag stones instead of leads brings the loss down 😉🎣

Any chance you could translate this into English for those of us across the pond? Lol. Love your videos. I plan to watch them all!
Ha ha ha Thats 'proper' english!
Great explanation! Thanks for sharing. I am wondering, are wrasse any tasty though?
- Not great eating.
@@thefishlockerworkshop cheers

- In most instances. Although often the hook length needs to be stronger due to withstanding the fishes teeth.
Evening John
What size weight is best to use ??
Regards Chris
What is the best bait to use for this rig John?
Second, good job for the information
😉
Hi I'm just starting out sea fishing what size of swivels do u use for rigs.
John I cant find those "cani links" anywhere anyone have a link cheers
Try... fishing mega store .com

Third, lol. Always interesting. All the best.

Do you have to get a license to take crab and lobster in the UK? What's your bag limit? Two lobster or one lobster and one crab?
for a lead you could just use a stone with a hole driled in it. Stones are not worth any money
I gather old bits of metal to use as weights.
