- Shore Fishing UK - Fishing for Bass with live prawn. This video covers a lot of the basic information, tackle, rigs and tactics for successful shore fishing. I show the different methods for baiting up and rigging floats for the bass. Great fun for a quick easy session which also picked up a surprise catch!

In Florida we often snip the tail of the shrimp so they can’t escape as well. And then hook it at the back, with a pretty large hook. The shrimps can be way bigger though, regularly are sold by the dozen in bait shops and a dozen would guarantee plenty of snappers
- That is an interesting concept. The prawns here are rarely bigger than your thumb.
Great feel good video John. Live prawns look like a killer bait and one I've neglected. Next time I get to the coast I'm going to leave a bit earlier and take a shrimping net. This video has really sparked my enthusiasm, can't wait until Spring. 😊 Thanks Pal.

Some real cool tips there John as to how to catch Prawn. I’ve attempted this before but the springy bait pot let in all comers. I will use your ideas as to reduce the mouth openings to accept smaller crabs or prawn. Some plastic and stitching need to be done ASAP. Thanks for the tips as live bait fishing is clearly the way forward for bass. Your a top thinker👏🏽👏🏽

I always put the prawn by the back of the head and I don't get too lucky 😅😅😅

What i love about the sea is you never know for sure what is going to turn up next, great videos fella, I have seen a few you have made and i think you could do with a couple of those clip on bells for your rod tip :)
- The clip on bells don't register drop back bites and fly off when you are casting. Been there, tried it. Haha. 😊

Güray Eker - Thankyou very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I have used all manner of small fish as livebaits for cod and bass in the past. When fishing for a BIG fish, livebaits are always a very good choice. The prawns pick up more fish, but livebait fish tend to pick up the better ones. 🎣👍🏻

we fished under a bridge as soon as the prawn drifted into the shadow of the bridge bang every time..

Another excellent video with plenty of good advice. The only thing different that I'd like to see is to focus on the float sometimes so that we can see the bite.
- Sadly Tony the cameras we have are not good enough to zoom in on the float.

What sort of depth are you fishing in relation to the bottom when floating? I LOVE float fishing, the whole staring at the float, then BANG, down she goes. Are you close to the bottom, mid-water? The live prawn method is superb. Your knowledge is simply astounding, and your willingness to share the hours, days, weeks, months, years you've spent honing your talent is commendable. Cannot wait to get back down to Cornwall in July/August. Fresh seafood is easily my favourite food, and, if I've actually caught it, it just tastes so much the better. 😁

Hi John great vids ,I'm going to try my hand at chesil in a few weeks time,just say I hook a conger what's the best way to handle them ,with care I know ,. I've only caught one on a boat .and have you any vids on how to bait up different types of bait ,thanks keep the vids coming.
- I show many baits and baiting techniques throughout the videos William. If you do hook a conger try gently pulling it ashore with the trace. Then hold it like I show in the conger videos. 😊

Question, with your non sliding float setup you still allow a few inches of play between the float stops, is this for a particular reason?
- Not only is it easier to tie, but it allows a little bit of movement to prevent line tangles during flight.
Hiya John, when handling the rays are you in any danger of being stung? If so is there anything you can do to avoid it? Was stung in Straya and can't say it was the most enjoyable experience! Bloody love the vids also!
- Most of the rays in the UK don't actually have a "stinger" barb in there tail. Just spines on them. Glad you're enjoying the videos mate. 😊

An aerator is best. If it’s a very hot day then an iceblock in there with them will help.

- From the shore. Best to go through the jaws and cast gently.

What rod and reel you using with that float rig and circle hook?
carpykyle - I think it’s a Shakespear salt spin 3 piece rod. I can’t remember the casting weight of it but I won it in a flounder comp about 6-7 years ago. So they probably don’t even make them any more.lol The reel is just the standard Abu cardinal 174swi I use in most of my vids. Cheap and reliable. 👍🏻
The Fish Locker cheers for that... I quite often put my nets out and catch prawn when I’m down at my caravan but I’m yet to fish with them. Usually eat them... I’ve heard the Anglesey bass love them so I’ll be giving it a go this season 👍

carpykyle - Loads of fish love them. Wrasse and bass especially 👍🏻🎣
carpykyle - match the hook to the bait. But a 1/0-3/0 is fine for smaller fish and baits. I use 6/0’s when using joey mackerel livebait for bass.

Float stops are a lot better than elastics
And what happens when you want to set it at 40ft? You will often find that I do things a certain way for a reason. 👍🏻
