A very good mate of mine who does a lot of sea fishing himself wasn’t aware of your channel until I told him about it, he is mightily impressed and has subscribed to your channels , he’s happy out now 👍😀
Just got into sea fishing tbh ive moved to isle of man where thats the main fishing i suppose. Been searching for instructional vids on how to shore /sea/beach fish? Thank you so much, your rig demo,s are spot on, ive learned alot, i love the fact that ur daughter gets out with u 😊 will be watching all ur vids.thank you 👍
just happened to be online and the notification popped up , I have to say John that you covered another version of this rig in a past video and hands up yes i copied them and have had some great nights using them , Great video and some great knowledge on your channel for the beginners that watch them .. So there you have it im on time for a change , Take care mate and thanks for sharing ..
Hi mate I'm Tom just subscribed and hit the bell. I'm 71 and just going back into match fishing. That was a brilliant video. I will start binge watching. Take care and stay safe. Tom.
Being someone who doesn't like plastic , I make my pulleys from 316 ss wire , 1mm dia. You'll be surprised if you work and realize how many beautiful and practical designs come from a piece of cleverly twisted wire .
Every day is a school day with your channel! What seem to many like just small details are in fact the very key elements of a successful fishing trip on the boat or shore. Thanks for this one, I thought I knew all about pulley rigs until I watched this!!! Cheers
I'll be getting these ready through lockdown, along with some pulley droppers ready for when lockdown is over. Cheers John, quality content as ever. One love
Very nice rig indeed I use something similar when pike fishing but not so much the pulley rig but along the same lines.Take care to you and the family John it’s coming again pal so stay safe all the very best from Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴
at a loss can not get my head round fishing with a french boom help,,, great videos love the foraging videos come in handy up here on the western isles
Great video John with lots of great tips & instructions. If I could go fishing I would certainly be using your tips, they seem SO practical. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
I have just started making this rig with the interchangeable hook length as shown in this video. 👍 great for changing between both pulley pennel and pulley wishbone rigs as required. I’ve also started using rotten bottom clips over snaggy ground with good success 👍👍
Hey man, Made a few of these rigs up for the first time and tested them out down dog point near flushing I believe it's called and landed my first Ray. Great rig and simple to make :) Tried the up and over but found they came back snarled up a lot and untangling line isn't one of my favourite things to do so the pulley rig is my weapon of choice now for sure. Cheeers :D
Your cousin across the pond... great videos... looking at trying your pulley rig at the beach in the spring... we don’t have the Sputnik weights with the extra hook for the fishing hook to clip too.. so have to tie the rig the other way you do it...
Great video and super informative as usual! Had to comment to thank you using a clip for the hook snood has increased the time I have bait in the water by at least 15/20% per session! So much less Faff and so obvious but I’d never done it until I watched your video! Happy New year to you and the family and tight lines 🎣
Cheers John. Brilliant video and very well explained, Have tied 4 up ready to go for my next trip to caister on sea beach on Monday. Hope, i catch some doggies or smoothhouds cheers
John, have a look at Trident tackle range of rig making kit, I am not affiliated with them in any way. I normally use Gemini but Trident is cheaper and the latest in technical development. Also recommend you try Kastking braid, plenty of choice by way of range, quality and price but excellent value. I was fishing from my 15 ft Sea hog about 10 years ago close to the shore line in Donegal bay Ireland, when I hooked up to a nice conger and when I got him to the surface I discovered that he had been previously caught and had a hook through his jaw and the line was attached to broken boat rod with a really nice Abu reel still mounted on the rod, I had simply hooked the rod and when I began to wind in the conger was just a by catch. Anyway I freed the eel and salvaged the reel but the rod was knackered. I reckon he had been hooked no more than 48 hours previously and had caught the angler by surprise and pulled the rod and reel over board. Anyhow I was fishing alone and had no camera, so no evidence to prove my story unfortunately. I was and still am a big fan of Mr Graeme Pullen but I think you are the new kid on the block who sets the bar for the rest and there are some very talented and interesting individuals out there. I appreciate the quality and content of your videos and your all round knowledge of the marine environment and its creatures. Crack on lad.
Aha! John's back in the Workshop! Nice one John, good clear demonstration and always good to see how other people do things. I thought a 'Canny link' was something from up your home part of the world - doesn't sound very Cornish! I was also wondering if a Canny link would help with Wifey's rotten bottom? 🤣🤣 Thanks for that mate - stay safe & well! 👍👍
Hello, I'm new to sea fishing and I have found your video very helpful and informative. You explain things really easily to understand and replicate. I've subscribed to your channel. Thank you.
Very helpful indeed. I am presuming the main line to the reel attaches to the pulley bead, am I correct? I’m just getting back into sea fishing from the beach and my knowledge of contemporary tackle is virtually nil.
Thank you for the tips, I'm going to redo my rigs because I struggle with using this one. For some reason the hook line always wraps around the other part of the loop
Im still watching but this should be applicable to catfish fishing in the middle of the USA right? They're bottom feeders and fighters, also we usually have to fight rocks so ima send this to my husband 😁😁 thank you for sharing man 😁😁
Very clear and well thought out video. Id like to know, them glow in the dark beads, spoons or leads, do they really attract fish, and if so what fish respond to them? Thanks.
Nice and simple, nicely explained, I prefer the blue Gemini pulley beads myself. just wondering why the large sliding boom style clip to the hook length and not a smaller Gemini clip or trident terma link? Each to their own, I get that, just wondered if there was a specific reason for a larger clip? All the best John 👍
Quick question about shockleaders ive seen so may say shockleaders are a must for sea fishing so I'm gonna hafto get one if I'm using mono line and mono leader would it adjust the bite detection and affect casting distance
Morning John, I hope you and your family had a good Christmas. Thanks for the video, very helpful. It’s slightly unrelated to the rig but I have seen you use a T bar disgorger before, I received a Gemini disgorger and understand the principle but wondered how you slide it to the bend of hook to turn it when you have a nice size cod bait wrapped to the hook, to me that stops you getting the disgorger to the bend? If you have some time to reply (or even a quick video :p that would be amazing!) thanks Ben.
Hi John. Brilliant channel, keeping me going during a lockdown where I could get to the beach with my gear but couldn’t get back up the hill home - so frustrating ! Anyway, picking up on David Allen’s comment below, which leg of the rig is the shorter one - weight to swivel or swivel to hook ? Logically I would have thought weight to swivel so that that takes the strain during casting with the heavier line, but I’m not sure from watching the video. This may be because I have the volume low to avoid another ‘are you watching that man again’ comment from the armchair on the other side of the fireplace....
When fishing off Porlock Weir which is very rocky I used to use old spark plugs with a weak link or as we used to call them rotten bottoms. Had a few reasonable coal fish in quite close that way!
hi there fish locker workshop guru, where are you based what area buddy as Ive been out the angling game too long and would love to have had a few hours coaching from you if it was at all possible? Great video and keep this fantastic coaching advice going if you can, all the very best mate ;)
Hi Question not about this video but after your advice. Bought a sl20sh on your recommendation. Will it cast small lures or do i need a different set up. Videos are great content really enjoying learning Thanks in advance Sime
Fish locker do u use any pre made sea fishing have noticed alot places sell rigs that are already made just wondering are pre made ones anay good compared to making your own and is the mutfh off a price difference in doing so
Can I ask what breaking strain your main line is, before you attach this to your leader. I'm a beginner and was trying my new gear out today, but my line kept snapping. My main line it braid 16lbs attached to 17-65lbs leader with a 6oz weight, the line always snapped where it attached to the leader, do you know what the problem could be, do you think I should change my main line to a bigger breaking strain ? Thanks
Hi , you did a weak link for release the weight, and what about the hook? We should not put a weak line in the hook to release the hook and don't lose the shock leader and body rig?
Love your manner and your explanations. Pity the camera is fixed on your head and not down on the table so we can see what you're doing. An extra camera with a little editing will go along way. Love the topic and your content.
Surely having all the load of casting on the hook/lighter braking strain hook length is a bad idea. Shockleader of 10lb per oz of lead is the safe way to go ?
- I have posted links for the components for making these rigs in the video description. 😊👍🏻🎣
John, your going to have to publish a book Pocket book of Fish Locker Tips n Traces 😉. I reckon it would make a great seller. Great video again👍
Agreed including knots and different types of rigs for different types of fish , for shore, or boat or freshwater 👍
Fantastic idea, get writing John😂
A very good mate of mine who does a lot of sea fishing himself wasn’t aware of your channel until I told him about it, he is mightily impressed and has subscribed to your channels , he’s happy out now 👍😀
- Awesome. Thank you for passing it on to him. 👍🏻
Seems like the part that would be sacrificed is the most expensive part of the rig. Very interesting and helpful. Enjoyed.
Yes but my hooks and swivels still cost a nice fuew quid and you will not lose your fish
@Dominic Easton Until you find out you are reeln' in a dogfish 🦈

Very useful thanks and hello from new brunswick Canada!

You're the best fisherman on UA-cam. Keep it up bud
- Thank you Dan. I am very flattered that you think so. 👍🏻

Canny tutorial bud. This is one of my favourite rigs for fishing up here on the north east coast on the rock marks. Tight lines Charlie 🎣🎣
- Perfect for rough ground aren’t they. 👍🏻

Nicely explained and clear instructions on the pulley rig John ideal for an angler who wants to tie his own rigs or a beginner, tight lines mate
Thanks for the tutorial, off to chessil over Christmas for cod using the penell rig
Wow never seen this before - thanks so much for your time and creativetivity
Well explained John. Good tutorial well filmed. Nice job matey.

Excellent content !!
Great video as always and well explained, I will be trying this here in Spain as we fish a lot of rocky shore
Really really well explained thank you
Amazing video !!! Thank you!

I use an all mono version of this rig at times... nice explanation ...
awsome thanks dude :-)) love salt fisching 🙂
Really helpful. Thank you mate.
Great for bass over rough ground.
Better than working the door in Whitby. 😂

Thanks for this video, its helped me alot
It has been a while, and I have been very busy haha, but I am back now. I am sorry for being gone for a long time. Back to the catch and cook now 🙂🙂
Awesome bro 👍

Dont know if you have done a video on preferred hook sizes for various species . If not would you think of doing one please. Thanks
We use these rigs a lot on the suffolk beaches they are great but we do find you loose a bit of bite detection with them.
Nice and simple, nicely explained, I prefer the blue Gemini pulley beads myself. just wondering why the large sliding boom style clip to the hook length and not a smaller Gemini clip or trident terma link? Diagrams diagrams diagrams that is our best friend to understand
Great tutorial, is there a generic hook size or type that could be used to catch a variety of species rather than targeting 1 type thanks
Hi John, I assume that these rigs will work equally well on uptide fishing as well. Am I correct? Thanks Keith
I need a Fishlocker Workshop channel for freshwater fishing!
Hi - great videos - QUESTION - how do you remove the barb from a hook??
You can crush it with some pliers 😊
When fishing off Porlock Weir which is very rocky I used to use old spark plugs with a weak link or as we used to call them rotten bottoms. Had a few reasonable coal fish in quite close that way!
Also know them as that name in the north west
hi there fish locker workshop guru, where are you based what area buddy as Ive been out the angling game too long and would love to have had a few hours coaching from you if it was at all possible? Great video and keep this fantastic coaching advice going if you can, all the very best mate ;)
Hi
Question not about this video but after your advice.
Bought a sl20sh on your recommendation. Will it cast small lures or do i need a different set up.
Videos are great content really enjoying learning
Thanks in advance
Sime
- No. It’s not that type of reel.
Forgot to say love the slosh. I'm new to fishing. first fishing holiday ionion (Greece) 3 sward fish.
Thank you Sir i live in Palm Coast Florida USA never seen pulley rigs ! Where can I buy them
Hi,have you ever tried circle hooks using pulley rigs? If so,what do you think about it?
Hi fella. Can you tell mee what size Sabiki hooks you use for a) Mackerel and b) Bass, Wrasse or Pollack. Cheers 🍻
Can you please let me know how I avoid damaging the bait when I attach the hook on to the IMP
Hi John could you adapt this rig for weir fishing ? keep safe tight lines
- Why not?
Can you explain the reason for the protruding spikes coming out of the lead weight please ?
Fish locker do u use any pre made sea fishing have noticed alot places sell rigs that are already made just wondering are pre made ones anay good compared to making your own and is the mutfh off a price difference in doing so
Does it matter what style/colour line you use when beach fishing with rigs ? Meaning line visiblity or memory
What’s the best size braid to use off the beach fishing
Hi , you did a weak link for release the weight, and what about the hook? We should not put a weak line in the hook to release the hook and don't lose the shock leader and body rig?
Hi John, I hope you are well. Do you have an on-line shop? would be great if I could purchase some of your rigs.
Could you add a flapper to the hook length on this rig? Or is that a bad idea?
- Better with a streamlined bait. But worth a try.
Love your manner and your explanations. Pity the camera is fixed on your head and not down on the table so we can see what you're doing. An extra camera with a little editing will go along way. Love the topic and your content.
hi John, unrelated question can I catch anything from a sandy beach using a lure?
I wouldn’t use anything on my pulleys but the trident ones most auto dynamic gadgets on the market
Surely having all the load of casting on the hook/lighter braking strain hook length is a bad idea. Shockleader of 10lb per oz of lead is the safe way to go ?
can this rig be used from a boat as well as the beach?
Could you use this rig for up-tide?
Where can I buy pully rigs thank you
Hi mate where can I get the clips from?
Your rigs are with 80lbs but wouldn't you want you weak link less than your main line so less the 20lbs? Curious
