Hey all ❤️ We listened to the studio version and the live version of Black Dog back to back in one sitting so we can enjoy both! The live version is filmed in another video. Pick your favorite 🤘🔥
Can you please do some Dave Matthews Band reactions soon please. I suggest the "Bartender" Luve version Dave & Tim. Or the song "PIG" again live version. Always choose the Live version of songs for Dave Matthew's Band maybe the most talented group of musicians on the planet.
I just prefer studio first because it’s like a road map for if a live version gets all improvisation & crazy, which is great of course…, it’s just, imo, it’s good to know the studio version first so u don’t get lost, because without it, u potentially can get lost with great bands who take some wild & unexpected turns sometimes :) great reaction.
Thank you for doing my pick! It’s interesting how you feel detached, but remember that back in 1971 there were no live videos of the band. There was no UA-cam the only way you can see the band live is when they came to your town. So we listened to the studio recordings over and over and over again, and there was no feeling of being detached because that’s all you had. And the bands also spent a lot of time on the studio recordings. Because they knew that it’s all we would have to listen to unless you were lucky enough to see them live! Love ya!❤
Great to see you two experience Zeppelin. I cannot hear them for the first time as I have been listening to them for decades. Being able to watch someone else experience the greatest band of all time is awesome. Your right on with the missing beat, they have quite a few of those gems in their catalog.
When it comes to Led Zeppelin in my opinion you should listen to the studio versions first then the live versions second. Because you can hear what they wanted you to hear first, then the live version so you can hear how they played around with the song live. Kind of like one is in the school room (Studio) and the other (Live) is on the playground during recess.
The young lady has a good ear for rhythm. She identified the time changes and also near the end, she locked into the cool drum line. That final drum part is fairly simple but very fun and satisfying to play.
Listen carefully to the off-beat drumming in the verses - it takes super-human rhythm to do it as good as this. They were all in their mid twenties when they recorded this!!
I wouldn't say super human rhythm. I've heard a lot of drummers testify to playing jazz, prior to rock. Before prog rock started evolving, many of the chord changes and drumming in classic rock was jazz influenced.
I like the studio version, because it was the first Led Zeppelin song I ever heard and understood it was Zep. It's also got a very iconic guitar sound, involves some sort of Jimmy Page studio trickery overdriving direct inputs into a recording/mixing console and compressor trickery. I saw the JHS pedals guy talk about it on one of his UA-cam videos. The bassist, JPJ, wrote the guitar riff actually. But live stuff is great too, you just need to understand they were kind of a jam band, and really played LIVE, for 3-3.5 hour concerts often because they just liked playing.
Always start with the studio track. It's the original creation and blend of music and lyrics, and the foundation for any future interpretations, whether it's a live version or a cover by another band or artist.
Back in the day records stores would open at midnight on days when there was a new release. People would be lined up outside the store when they opened to be one of the first to own the new Zeppelin album. Then we would all gather at someone's house and have a listening party. Their third album was great but it didn't sell quite as many as their second album and the critics were saying that they had already peaked. Then Led Zeppelin IV dropped and this was the first song everyone heard as soon as you cued it up, and it only got better from there. I can't remember how long this album stayed at the top of the charts but it broke all records at that time.
The part that sound off-beat is called polyrhythms, in this case, the guitar riff and the bass are being played on a different time signature than the drums until they match with each other. Also, the name of the song really has nothing to do with the lyrics. As long as they were having trouble to find a title for the track, they decided to do kind of a homage for a black dog that kept appearing on the mansion's yard where they were recording the album.
You should always do the studio versions first. This is the way the artist wanted us to hear their music when they recorded it back in the seventies. Then when the live versions came out we went and bought the live version. That makes perfect sense
I've been a Led Zeppelin fan for more years than I care to remember & I recently found version of Black Dog by legendary Australian singer John Farnham that I thought you might enjoy which the band used for warm up before shows, I really think you would like it. Thanks for your reaction videos. P.S I have only just joined your page.
😂😂😂...you are so cool girl. When Robert sang "hey hey baby when you walk that way, watch your honey drip can't keep away" you could see the delayed reaction, while in your mind you translating to Lebanese...then u laughing!! Lmao😂😂
'Black Dog' is slang in Britain for a bout of depression. it is a blues song and his girl misbehaving like that may well have brought about a bit of the Black Dog.
The Magick of Zeppelin was in their live performances, omitting Babe, Dazed, Tea for One No quarter and a few others. Like everything it depends on perspective, known or unknown but yet known.
It is so much fun watching you both react to the songs of my youth. I get to relive the joy of discovery through you both, so thank you very much for sharing... much love to you both :)
Hi. I'm the guy who first recommended Led Zeppelin to you guys. At that time, I recommended Stairway to Heaven (studio version) which you did, and you loved it. In the same comment where I recommended Stairway, I also recommended the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You", which you didn't do. Instead, you did the live MSG version. Not as good. Not even in the same ballpark. You guys really should revisit that song and listen to the studio version. Honestly, the studio version versus live version of Black Dog, meh, not a big deal either way...6 of one, half a dozen of the other. "Since I've Been Loving" studio version versus live version, a much bigger deal. If you guys listen to it, you'll know what I'm talking about. Like the studio version of "Stairway to Heaven", the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You" will show you the true power, magic, and majesty that is Led Zeppelin, and it will touch your soul. I got you started on this train, and trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong. Peace
John Bonham, The disregard for Time keeping..in other words , where the beat should fall, John , pauses, or skips ahead, or does nothing, where as the beat should fall.. Genius.
seeing them is cool and brigs an element but the Best way to listen is with eyes closed... It takes you to many more places and is really like a religious experience
I have always loved Zep. But...even though they are brilliant beyond belief, i like them way more in the studio. Thanks guys! Oh...the Les Pauls on the wall are cooooool!!😊
Ok , I see you guys like live version better, and I get that. But, If you listen to both versions without the visual, the studio version is cleaner, crisper, and the lyrics are way cleaner. When singing in concert day after day 2 hrs a show, the voices are a little raspy, and even the instruments may drag a little. I for one am glad you did the studio version first. I think it helped you like the live version better, if that makes any sense, lol
For some reason I read that as Dazed and Confused, so it was a bit of a surprise but no great hardship to hear Black Dog instead. Welcome to the world of Zeppelin. Enjoy the flight (I think you might).
NO CONFUSION ALWAYS STUDIO FIRST FOR THE AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE BECAUSE NO ONE HEARD ANY LIVE UNTIL THE 6TH ALBUM WHAT MADE LED Z LEGENDARY WAS THE CLASSIC STUDIO RECORDING SESSION MASTERPIECES THAT BECAME THE ALBUMS !!! NOT LIVE NOT LIVE after the studio if you do a live then you will know how different it is -inferior arena sound in the 70's always different arrangements not what made the songs classic
If you receive conflicting advice about whether to listen to the studio version or the live version first, I suggest that you start with the studio version. The studio version is the proper "official" song, whereas, during live performances, bands often play around with the song with ad hoc variations, improvise, and jam to extend the length of the performance of the song.
With every band in the 50s -70s, sometimes, you get a live performance that was recorded well, with good sound, ect. Mostly, film clips look dated and non consistant, so there are live shows that will be great and others where some of the songs just did not come out well. Usually, what they produce in the studio is what they want the song to sound like. Before 1979, videos of bands were mostly non existent unless they were on a variety show as a guest. Video tape itself was invented in the 70s and not really in use until nearly 1980.
I normally prefer the studio versions. Its want the group wanted from the track. Live is more about the performance to make up for reduced technical options.
I love you two. You're a great couple. When are you going start reacting to movies and special clips from specials? I think Carol would be hilarious in her analysis of popular movies like ALIEN or A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, or a western like TOMBSTONE. If you decide to go that way, I'm all in.
Always the studio version. Well, almost always. I have not heard a Led Zeppelin live song that I have liked. I've almost liked one or two live versions, but then my mind would go to how good the studio version sounds, and I would end up hating the live version.
ALWAYS...do the studio version first. ALWAYS!!!!!! People who recommend the live version forget that they know the song well. They have heard it so many times and that's why they like the live version. And they forget that the first time that THEY heard it was the studio version.
IMO listen to the studio versions first, this is what the artist considered their best efforts, pride in their craft, then watch how they express the music live
Honest opinion: You should almost always listen to the studio version first. Live performances are great, but rarely do the actual musical material justice (there are exceptions but not many).
Drums in half time. It's his fills that really push the guitar changes. Misty Mountain Hop is another great song for Bonham on this album. 👋🙂 Rush is the band where you watch live versions all day and night. They always play perfectly.
I think I speak for the majority--although what you hear is always what I think is a loud vocal minority--that the studio version is always superior to the live versions. You just miss so much of the song in the live versions. The sound balance gets mixed up, the band may be partially spent from a long concert--notes are missed or not totally synched and the vocals can be blown out after hours of work out. Also you run against extra long solos and other "tweaks" that are great if you are actually attending the concert in that the band wants to provide each audience with a unique experience; but frankly, if any of these changes were included in the studio version because they were superior, they would have been. That said, doing reactions to both is a great idea. I would like the reactor to react to the best version of the song first because the purpose of a reaction video isn't to learn something about the song or see it from a different perspective, it is to find someone else who loves the song upon hearing it for the first time and the connection you feel with the reactor when they express it. You may have heard it a thousand times before but when you see someone reacting to it the first time as opposed to listening to it alone, it's like experiencing Christmas with or without kids around. You pick up on the magic of Christmas all over again from the freshness and joy of the kids around you. You don't want a different version of Christmas with a barbecued teriyaki turkey or a plastic Christmas tree, you want the kids to experience Christmas at its very best. Just like you want the reactor to experience the song at its very best. Kashmir live is one you guys reacted to but it loses so much power in that live version. Should you ever decide to react to the studio version, just be sure you've got the lyrics with it, which are quite magical and without having them around you just can't follow along with the journey they would have taken you on.
What band today has the guts to pause the music and use vocals as the main part of the arrangement? No one. It's all one chord or the same bass line repeated over and over as a computer loop. zzzzzz.
a lot of times, Zepplin sucked on stage because they were all on different drugs. IMO, zepps best recorded live show was live at the filmore. it's a bootleg recording.
Hey all ❤️ We listened to the studio version and the live version of Black Dog back to back in one sitting so we can enjoy both! The live version is filmed in another video. Pick your favorite 🤘🔥
also check out miley cyrus' version of this song at glastonbury 5 years ago!
Can you please do some Dave Matthews Band reactions soon please. I suggest the "Bartender" Luve version Dave & Tim. Or the song "PIG" again live version. Always choose the Live version of songs for Dave Matthew's Band maybe the most talented group of musicians on the planet.

Yep... There were bands that you had no idea what they looked like until you saw them live.
In general, studio versions should take priority, it is the composition the way the band intended it.
just 1 interpretation at that time, Zep always changed it up
What a great idea to do the studio,, then the live version!!! Love it!!! Love the LZ reacts. :)
Studio first then live. Just like 99% of us did.
Good point
Great to see you two experience Zeppelin. I cannot hear them for the first time as I have been listening to them for decades. As a Zep fan since the 70's, I agree.
The song that got me into Led Zeppelin. Great to hear you listened to the studio version first. Always studio version first.
The young lady has a good ear for rhythm. She identified the time changes and also near the end, she locked into the cool drum line. That final drum part is fairly simple but very fun and satisfying to play.
Apparently there was a black dog wandering around the country house where the band wrote or recorded the song - hence the name of the song!

I wouldn't say super human rhythm. I've heard a lot of drummers testify to playing jazz, prior to rock. Before prog rock started evolving, many of the chord changes and drumming in classic rock was jazz influenced.
My understanding is they didn’t have a name for the song. There was this black dog that hung around the studio so they called the song Black Dog.
The Mighty Zeppelin, your next song should be When the levee breaks the song makes your shoulders move
This is one of the most complicated and mesmerizing drum parts ever put into a rock song.
I will always remember the first time I heard this song. My appreciation of music changed that day!! Greatest rock band ever.
I like the studio version, because it was the first Led Zeppelin song I ever heard and understood it was Zep. hey you two, I really enjoy your reactions because you are so refreshing. thank you
Studio version first. That’s what the artist signed off on as the official song.
Always 👈
Thank you for listening to studio versions first. There are just so many bands, and there are so many variations to a live performance.
The power of this song never gets old.
This woman is georgeous!
Inimitable! 4 Geniuses- 1 Band. Coolest musical sounds ever created!
IMHO, the sliding timing of the song and Bonzo's drums create a musical conative dissonance that detaches you. omg. soooo good.
Always start with the studio track. It's the original creation and blend of music and lyrics, and the foundation for any future interpretations, whether it's a live version or a cover by another band or artist.

Thanks for your reaction videos.
P.S I have only just joined your page.
If you have never heard the song, start with the studio version.
You have to for Jimmy's studio masterclass!
The drums on this are just crazy timing. I've read this was a hard song to play live and I understand not done live a lot.
😂😂😂...you are so cool girl. When Robert sang "hey hey baby when you walk that way, watch your honey drip can't keep away" you could see the delayed reaction, while in your mind you translating to Lebanese...then u laughing!! Lmao😂😂
This tempo is not random, there are three rhythm changes in the guitar (9/8 - 4/4 - 5/4), while Bonham accompanies throughout in 4/4.
Check out 'In the Light. 'No Quarter', 'Tea for One', 'I'm Gonna Crawl', and 'Dyer Maker'
The fact Robert was spittin bars 😂❤ is priceless
'Black Dog' is slang in Britain for a bout of depression. it is a blues song and his girl misbehaving like that may well have brought about a bit of the Black Dog.
I didn't see it. You guys have GOT to listen to You Shook Me by them. SO Great! Robert was only 20 when he did it.
Perfonics in my ears!
Thy are just as great with the easy stuff as well as the hard stuff
The Magick of Zeppelin was in their live performances, omitting Babe, Dazed, Tea for One No quarter and a few others. Like everything it depends on perspective, known or unknown but yet known.
there are 2 different rytms happening together. VERY easy to mess it up but they do it easily
Thanks for sharing 😊
You're discovering Zeppelin. That's cute!
A lot better then the hipsy hopsy ghetto fasttalking nitwits were they started their channel with.
It is so much fun watching you both react to the songs of my youth. I get to relive the joy of discovery through you both, so thank you very much for sharing... much love to you both :)
It's our pleasure 🙏 This gives us happiness too!! Much love ❤️❤️
Awesome song, Jimmy Page killer guitar 🎸… Wow are all the Woman from Lebanon as Beautiful as you 🤩👍👍
First time here for your reaction. Ill listen to the live reaction after this one.
Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper (Audio). Classic rock from 1976.
She is SO in with the beat at the end. Incredible.
Hold onto her while you can.
She's growing faster than you.

Always do studio first then Live🎉
Now that's what I call a proper rock song. :)
John Bonham, The disregard for Time keeping..in other words , where the beat should fall, John , pauses, or skips ahead, or does nothing, where as the beat should fall.. Genius.
Sometimes playing some "off beat" strikes is not the same as disregard for time keeping. Bonham was a metronomic beast.
Studio version every day.
seeing them is cool and brigs an element but the Best way to listen is with eyes closed... It takes you to many more places and is really like a religious experience
I have always loved Zep. But...even though they are brilliant beyond belief, i like them way more in the studio. Thanks guys! Oh...the Les Pauls on the wall are cooooool!!😊

I always think of this as super funky dance music, but most people just don't get it that way. Carol could be one of a few exceptions!?!
TAYLOR SWIFT, MY ASS Real music from the 1960s thru the 2000, real talent.
If you receive conflicting advice about whether to listen to the studio version or the live version first, I suggest that you start with the studio version. Awe the stripper song. Nice! 😊
PLEASE, PLEASE do "How Many More Times"... the studio version is primer.

I've always preferred Zeppelin in the studio. There are a few bands that i liked live better, Allman Brothers, J Geils Band, Grand Funk Railroad.
Black Dog is great - try "Kashmir - Live at Celebration Day" next
I normally prefer the studio versions. Its want the group wanted from the track. Live is more about the performance to make up for reduced technical options.
If Elie lets his hair down for the next Zep tune I will subscribe . Lol
I love you two. You're a great couple. When are you going start reacting to movies and special clips from specials? I think Carol would be hilarious in her analysis of popular movies like ALIEN or A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, or a western like TOMBSTONE.

I have not heard a Led Zeppelin live song that I have liked. I've almost liked one or two live versions, but then my mind would go to how good the studio version sounds, and I would end up hating the live version.
Lee Zeppelin is one of those bands that is better in studio.
ALWAYS...do the studio version first. ALWAYS!!!!!!

The real live version of this song by Led Zeppelin is actually a cover by Heart
ua-cam.com/video/hIs2yOD8oKA/v-deo.htmlsi=NtcrIsEa9Rj8YJiz
One of the most blatantly sexual and primal songs ever written. Incredibly creative with the off beat rhythm. Awesome.
🏆🏆🏆🏆!
That drum part is awfully tricky.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❗️👁🎵🎶🎼☯️
❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
HI both.
still have not did some zepplin songs
Led Zeppelin is best when served up live.
nah..... many of their studio versions were the best versions. not every one, but quite a few.
You haven't donecream pie
React to slow ride by foghat
Drums in half time. It's his fills that really push the guitar changes. Misty Mountain Hop is another great song for Bonham on this album. 👋🙂
Rush is the band where you watch live versions all day and night. They always play perfectly.

Listen to the Farr Corporation
Hard to believe that Plant did Sea of Love ua-cam.com/video/2BoUzzFXuVU/v-deo.html
Best sex tune EVER !!!
I think the lyrics are off a little.
I like Plant's live vocals, but when on tour Jimmy Page's playing could, shall we say, lose the focus he shows in the studio.
Mis-heard lyrics!
What band today has the guts to pause the music and use vocals as the main part of the arrangement? No one. It's all one chord or the same bass line repeated over and over as a computer loop. zzzzzz.
So many lyrics are wrong. Might as well watch the official video and support the artist
a lot of times, Zepplin sucked on stage because they were all on different drugs. IMO, zepps best recorded live show was live at the filmore. it's a bootleg recording.
