If the night mother was Malphala all along, it would make sense in more than one way. She's a very tidy Prince. Having both the Morag Tong and Dark Brotherhood would ensure she can clean up improperly placed strings and strengthen the ones she prefers. Which does what only Malphala could know. Also should this be revealed to any Grandmaster of the Morag Tong or any Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, they wouldn't change anything about it anyway. If the Nigh Mother is a lie, it is a sacred lie, and therefor a sacred truth to her will that must be upheld. What Listener would stop loving the Night Mother regardless of her true name, and what Grandmaster would challenge her? None that would live long or make any impact. She would tidy up that broken string quickly enough simply using her other, making her lie more truth in the process.

Ah yes. Any excuse to let Scott talk about Mephala for an hour lol. But nah, she really does have a ton to unpack in terms of her relation to the allegory of creation, the nature of civilization, her relation to Vivec, etc. Also, Drew looking fabulous as always.
I prefer the chameleon effect on the ring. It allows it to drastically improve you're stealth skill IF you are already proficient with it, but for anyone not adept with sneak it does very little

The Blade absorbs health and gives it to you, but not just to you, it is rebuilding itself as well. As a note to anyone reading the comments, the ring of the khajiit IS in skyrim. You find it on a bandit near Windhelm, and you can trade it for the deadric mail in the deadric mail CC quest
Can't help but think that her ultimate goals are the continuation of "the web", Lorkhan's world/Nurn. And the humiliation of the aedra, whom she openly mocks in her realm. This would also explain why she and Boethiah are on such good terms. Since she's willing to do anything for those goals which is Boethiah's sphere.
*"Greetings Fudgemuppet, splendid Podcast... I believe one set in the Dawn Era would be a spectacle. Have you guys ever considered fusing all creation myths together to make one grand story?"* (On a side note about what you guys said at 16:15) Makes you wonder... maybe Ysgramor used this tactic, and vamped it up to 11/10. Just to clarify, Ysgramor wasn't actually at Saarthal when it was sacked and burned, and accounts of Ahzidal makes it known that everyone was either dead or gone, and the Snow Elves didn't kill all the humans in Skyrim either, so whatever happened that Night of Tears, is still shrouded in mystery. Ysgramor also never mentions or alludes to the Eye of Magnus at all, and we also know for a fact that it wasn't just 500 Companions who pushed a race to Extinction, since one of the ships sunk on its way to Skyrim, and a few died retaking Saarthal. Meaning it wasn't even 500, it was less, some already killed by a handful of Snow Elves in a single Settlement. Lots of holes in the story, and a lot of extra info many fans never look into. Gelebor's own accounts are also important as well. Whether you think he's evil or a hero, Ysgramor really pulled a 200 IQ play that Mephala would've been proud of at the end of the day.
You *are* aware that would require adding in our less-than-savory Nordic elements into your Elven pantheon, like Auriel being cucked by Lorkhan, right? Would your order still allow them to publish such a work, or force them to make some 'changes.'
"Well at the end such an epic would still be an imperfect chronicle. The truth of creation is simplicity to the grandiose and mythic takes the gods and lords would have you think Altmer." *sits at an equally large console overlooking a massive aetherium forge, my dwemer eyes shining at the display as I make a few adjustments* "What if I told you cousin that there was a very simple purpose for this world?" *I stand and raise my wraithguard gloved hand up in a formal greeting* "How would you convey the purpose of your god in Atherius?"
@@jasonsilvernail1450 Mara leaving the Aldmeri Pantheon after Lorkhan's defeat was unfortunate, but I'd hardly say Auriel was thoroughly cucked like you presume... I mean, Lorkhan got his ass beat afterwards, so I mean... it's not like Auriel let this insult go unpunished mate 🧐 Explaining Mara's true nature as a Wayward wife amongst many of the Pantheons on Nirn is important to remember. She may be a goddess of love and all that, but marriage? Any goddess so infatuated with love and all that probably shouldn't be considered as a good partner. Look at Mara in the Yokudan Pantheon? I'd say Auriel is better off without her as a wife, that's for sure.

17:51 what you're talking about here is Recuperation, the process by which radical or subversive messaging, images, etc, is appropriated and neutralised by the ruling class
Really a very good episode; I enjoyed all the talk about the secretive activities that are sometimes necessary for civilization to flourish. This kinda came up a few times, but I’d love a podcast about all the times mortals “got one up” on the Daedra lords (like the Khajiit stealing Mephala’s ring, or that Dwemer who ‘tricked’ Azura)! It’s always fun to see the tormenter get their comeuppance hehe
Vivek shortly after becoming a God: "Im just gunna say some random shit and watch them try to make it all make sense." Vivek a short while later: "Holy crap! That escalated quickly..."
It's a real shame that they didn't do anything with the Morag Tong in the Dragonborn DLC other than making them a random encounter. They should have had a base somewhere on Solstheim that you could raid.
Hey guys! First I want to say I love the channel and all your videos! I’m a huge fan! Maybe for a podcast Vivec, The Tribunal, or maybe even if you were to write an original Elder Scrolls story, or even the Main Quest and or the Faction Quests for ES6, what would they be about? I love the ES6 podcasts
Do you guys think that the murder of Nerevar was Mephala's influence? And basically a battle of the influence of Mephala and Azura on the existance of the Dunmer?
I know you guys covered these topics separately, but it might be fun to make a video combining the stories of Molag Bal and Mehrunes Dagon. Molag Bal is the ultimate bully - but bullies become as such when they suffer humiliation and abuse themselves. It seems too perfect that Mehrunes Dagon and his overthrow of Lyg is Molag Bal's foundational insecurity. Honestly Molag Bal is just Tool's Prison Sex music video personified.
I'm doing a playthrough of Morrowind for the first time after already playing Skyrim and Oblivion a million times and man, it's soo good. I'm still trying to decide if it's better than Skyrim - it totally might be.
I don't think that Nerevar or the Neraverine were Shezzarines, but similarly to how Vivec is a reflection or echo of Mephala, Nerevar may be a reflection or echo of Lorkhan. There are differences though. Almalexia and Vivec murder Nerevar, which could put Vehk and Ayem in positions similar to Anuriel and Trinimac. Or it could put Nerevar in the position of Trinimac/Lorkhan if Ayem and Vehk are still anticipated by Boethiah and Mephala.
The spiral skein is an interesting fusion if theory and terror. On the surface it is filled with basically the elderscrols take on Dante's Inferno it certainly would be terrifying for any mortal to behold, but the underlying reason behind everything is the 'theory' that gives meaning to the terror.
Very good. Food for thought: the Daedric Princes are all sinister, before Mundus the Daedric Princes and the Aedra were essentially all the same sort of people. I imagine that the true nature of the Aedra has to be sinister to some degree as well. May be a good topic to discuss. Like... What if the Divines were Daedric Princes? What would their realms be? Their spheres? Their artifacts? I can picture a Zenithar being obsessed with wealth and greed. Not solely in material objects, but in labor and a trade. Anything that would have some form of value to another being. He would collect all of these in his realm where they would be represented as a gold slate, ingot or coin that would be hammered on Zenithar's anvil and added to his collection. I could picture his realm like a large farm where Daedra toil and labor a never ending harvest. He offers trades to the denizens of Nirn where if they cannot meet his trade they are taken to his realm and added to his crops. Bodies reduced to ingredients to supply the harvest.
It is a fun thoguh experience, but the whole point that the Aedra were benevelont so they are supported the creation (some of them later doesn't liked thet but it is an another story) opposite to the Daedra Princes who were selfish and doeasn't wanted to working with each other and sacroficing themselfs at all.
I have a question that's been Burning in my mind if ANYONE can answer it. When working for the Thieves Guild in Elder Scrolls Oblivion, during the Ultimate Heist, you proceed to the Basement of the Imperial Palace.... So... What is up with all the HUGE items??? There's a Giant sized throne, magic ball, and A massive spiked bat-like weapon, and I have NO IDEA who they could've belonged to or the lore behind them! If anyone can shed light on this topic, It would be GREATLY appreciated!
Alexander the Great may not really have been much of a conqueror really. Kind of just took over an empire that already existed and ran it into the ground..... BUT spreading a single standardized dialect of Greek around was totally revolutionary! Plus the cultural exchange went both ways. A lot of compromise to synch up cultures is hard. We still live in a world of his students :)
It was more the diadochi that ran it into the ground with division lol since Alexander pulled the old classic "Died too early to state a clear successor" but it is really impressive the level of connectivity he gave the ancient world, the mark that was left by his decisions is astounding from east to west!
I am coming to this way late as this has been sitting in my watch later for too long. But! You kinda missed a point about the Morag Tong and their Writes of execution. When someone partisans the Tong they must attach a excuse/grievance for the assassination, only if the grievance is acknowledged will it go ahead. The Write last for a year, if the target survives then they can not be targeted again for the same grievance.
Hey Fudgemuppet I love all of the content you guys release. I've been watching you for a while and seen basically all your videos. I can't seem to remember if you've done a Dark Brotherhood podcast. 1:00:40 - I'm an old ass man. What you're talking about is the riddle of steel. See me I'm basing it on Conan the Barbarian- 'steel is not strong boy, flesh is stronger'. The antagonist in the movie then turns a bades one of his acolytes to come to him and she falls blindly to her death. The idea probably goes back way further than that flick but one can only learn based on what one already knows. "Speak to me in a language I can hear . . ." - TSP
I would love to hear your headcannons on Creation. What Myths are real if any? We have all these different myths and legends but what actually went down in your opinions. What has really brought us to this moment? May need PEDs to do this pidcast though :D!!!
I still say Namira is the true identity of the Night Mother. Old text heavily leans on her being somewhat of a female Sithis. I believe her connection to the void actually goes back farther than Sithis himself. Not only do I theorize that Namira is the Night Mother, but also that Sithis himself doesn't exist at all and that the Night Mother Namira has simply deceived the Black Hand and the Dark Brotherhood into worshipping her, because Namira herself is not likely to have many worshipers on her own given her nature. However creating an almost romanticized subculture under the false pretenses that the being they are worshipping is "not a Daedric Prince" and that the murders and behavior are somehow justified, it becomes awfully beneficial for the rotting corpse in the Dark Brotherhood's tomb to be an embodiment of Namira. Not Mephala.
Seems like a massive stretch, I'd say the night mother is obviously Mephala. And although Mephala and Namira are connected in some ways, they are very different beings.
Hey FudgeMuppet, at 52:00 ish you were talking about the keys of Mephala being 8 and 16, and I was thinking because this piece of lore is from the Khajiiti mythology, could these keys be some kind of keys to the Lunar lattice? Maybe the keys of the good Daedra are what prevent people from tampering with the lattice... And it's interesting - when you mention The Wheel theory, could these keys link the lunar lattice and the Wheel/Towers theory? Maybe there are keys to each of the towers, and Mephala holds the key to the 8th tower. Not sure how 16 fits, her realm might be the 16th space in the wheel, if each Daedra is located at a specific space in the wheel. I'm dying for a more quantitative look at the tower theory! And maybe how it could fit into TES6's storyline... There is a sect of the Dark Brotherhood in the illiac bay region that explicitly worships Mephala instead of the NIght Mother, and maybe they will have to be involved in unlocking the final tower with Mephala's 8th key. Not too sure about the keys unlocking towers, I just don't know what else they might unlock? Are there any examples of other keys belonging to other Daedra? I would expect that only the Lorkhan supportive daedra would hold these keys to defend the towers, if that is what these keys are for. Maybe keening and sunder are keys for the heart of Lorkhan (Red Mountain) tower, and maybe there are some other keys to other towers. Thoughts?
Okay so after some more thought, I don’t think it’s about the towers! Rather, her keys are her artifacts! And they keys are not the keys to the lunar lattice but rather the keys to release that monster that only Azura, Boethia and Mephala know the names of! My reasoning is that the Ebony blade is called the killing word by the Khajiit, and the monster is compared to Ebony. Maybe the Ebony blade is a part of the monster and azura and boethias artifacts contribute to create it. Perhaps this is the god Ebonarm, which would explain his involvement of the khajiit god of luck (he saved his life and ascended him to godhood), considering it is in the khajiit myth that Mephala release this monster.

Never thought I’d here the phrase “sigma female” from Drew, but here we are.
Love you guys and this was a really good podcast!!
damn these podcasts really became a staple for me, keep it up guys!👍🏻
Would Fudgemuppet ever return to modded let's plays?
Ultimate Skyrim is about to release on SE and I would love to see how it appeals to their idea of an 'ideal' elder scrolls.
I wanna hear more about Lorkhan and more about the moons and the lunar lattice which is said to be connected to Azura so y’all can explain the theory that the moons are Lorkhans body 🙏🏼
Some future podcast ideas…
The Morag Tong
The Septim and Mede Dynasties
The Provinces of Tamriel (an overview of their history and geography)
Things that must NOT be in The Elder Scrolls VI
Elder Scrolls spin off game ideas
The Ideal Elder Scrolls TV show (could be a video)
The Strange Creatures of Morrowind (alits, cliff racers, guars etc.)
Lesser Factions of Morrowind (The Camonna Tong, Twin Lamps etc.)
Ghosts, Skeletons, Zombies and the Undead (Halloween special)
The Holidays of Tamriel (Christmas special perhaps)
And off topic to this video, but an Ideal Fallout: China video and an Ideal Kotor Remake video would be really cool
"Imagine if you're a spider." *Relatibility intensifies*
I love this podcast series
From flushing the toilet to injustice in society. This transition blew my mind xD
After the day I had at work, this is much needed, you guys are awesome.
Ah yes. Any excuse to let Scott talk about Mephala for an hour lol. But nah, she really does have a ton to unpack in terms of her relation to the allegory of creation, the nature of civilization, her relation to Vivec, etc.
Also, Drew looking fabulous as always.
A podcast (or series of podcasts) going over the 36 lessons/sermons would be crash hot
I’m here for the rambling!
I prefer the chameleon effect on the ring. It allows it to drastically improve you're stealth skill IF you are already proficient with it, but for anyone not adept with sneak it does very little
Hey you guys are SO close to 1M subscribers! Its amazing how substantial your channel has become. Bethesda has to be watching, right?
I sure hope so! Otherwise I'll have to drive halfway across the country & tie them all to chairs & make them watch all the videos! ALL of the videos!!!
Tinfoil Hat Theory:
The Ebony Blade is Ebonarm. He has been forgotten because he has been locked away. The Blade absorbs health and gives it to you, but not just to you, it is rebuilding itself as well. For know its just a bade, but given a few hundred years of killing and growing stronger, and maybe it can be a God again.
I appreciate this weekly Sunday upload. Thanks guys.
*"Greetings Fudgemuppet, splendid Podcast... I believe one set in the Dawn Era would be a spectacle. Have you guys ever considered fusing all creation myths together to make one grand story?"*
(On a side note about what you guys said at 16:15)
Makes you wonder... maybe Ysgramor used this tactic, and vamped it up to 11/10.
Wuuthrad says hello
"Well at the end such an epic would still be an imperfect chronicle. The truth of creation is simplicity to the grandiose and mythic takes the gods and lords would have you think Altmer." *sits at an equally large console overlooking a massive aetherium forge, my dwemer eyes shining at the display as I make a few adjustments* "What if I told you cousin that there was a very simple purpose for this world?" *I stand and raise my wraithguard gloved hand up in a formal greeting* "How would you convey the purpose of your god in Atherius?"
@@jasonsilvernail1450
Mara leaving the Aldmeri Pantheon after Lorkhan's defeat was unfortunate, but I'd hardly say Auriel was thoroughly cucked like you presume... I mean, Lorkhan got his ass beat afterwards, so I mean... it's not like Auriel let this insult go unpunished mate 🧐
Explaining Mara's true nature as a Wayward wife amongst many of the Pantheons on Nirn is important to remember. She may be a goddess of love and all that, but marriage? Any goddess so infatuated with love and all that probably shouldn't be considered as a good partner.
Look at Mara in the Yokudan Pantheon? I'd say Auriel is better off without her as a wife, that's for sure.
@@YagrumBagarn69
"Auriel and his enduring, everlasting force of Time is necessary to all of this. Achieving an Apotheosis would truly be something, but we here want all of our fellow Anuic Mer to escape this trap. As for the Redguards, they they want the same thing"
*Sits down, looks upon all Creation Myth books and nature's of various Et'Ada*
"If it's Chim you're referring too, sure, it's a cool idea, escaping it all, but Lorkhan shouldn't have lied, and staying in the waters of Aetherius and traveling throughout the Aurbis. Besides, sticking together is what we've always wanted. There are other ways to ascend than treachery, and considering the Psyjic Endeavor hasn't even gotten any Dunmer to achieve it, well... Boethia seems more like a pretentious ass than anything, contrary to popular belief"
*Sadly taps small statue of Trinimac*
great vid as always guys! - just fyi, you can use 'they' for this kind of daedra whose gender is undefined or fluid. Much easier than 'she or he' and the repeated explanation.
I'd love to see a deep dive on your favorite rpg systems throughout the elder scrolls series
17:51 what you're talking about here is Recuperation, the process by which radical or subversive messaging, images, etc, is appropriated and neutralised by the ruling class
Loving the Podcasts btw, I've finished every one already! Keep it up
Mephala and Boethiah are tied for my #2 Daedra, after Hircine but ahead of Nocturnal
That's an interesting top 3 (4?)
I can imagine a character that uses lies / plots to set up better opportunities to hunt more powerful / cunning prey
I’m here for all of it
i like the note about art and marriage through murder. another good example is che guevara t shirts
Confirmed, CIA is just the Morag Tong
Really a very good episode; I enjoyed all the talk about the secretive activities that are sometimes necessary for civilization to flourish.
This kinda came up a few times, but I’d love a podcast about all the times mortals “got one up” on the Daedra lords (like the Khajiit stealing Mephala’s ring, or that Dwemer who ‘tricked’ Azura)! It’s always fun to see the tormenter get their comeuppance hehe
Vivek shortly after becoming a God: "Im just gunna say some random shit and watch them try to make it all make sense."
Vivek a short while later: "Holy crap! That escalated quickly..."
52:32
This is the kind of confusion I'm here for.
It's a real shame that they didn't do anything with the Morag Tong in the Dragonborn DLC other than making them a random encounter. They should have had a base somewhere on Solstheim that you could raid.
There's a quest where you confront one family of the morag tong and can claim their house as your player home
I’d love a podcast about the animals and creatures and maybe even some evolution history of Tamriel :) keep up the great stuff ❤️
Drew: "Daedric prince of kissing... "
Me: "...Well at least its not handholding..."
lol
That's Dibella's sphere
My favorite Daedric Prince! Mephala is just so interesting.
I would love a podcast about Tamrielic alcohol and other drugs :D
Love me some Spider iconography and web spinning 🕷
Drinking game: take a shot whenever Scott says metaphysical
Morrowind, IMHO, is the best
It just occurred to me that since Almalexia is the anticipation of Boethia, wouldn't that make Nerevar analogous to Lorhkan?
If the Nervarine is a Shezzarine, that means striking the Heart of Lorkhan would be an act of self-destruction for others as well.
Aah yes the beginning of the video is very educational 😂 ive learned so much
The spiral skein is an interesting fusion if theory and terror.
@@varisugocsay1152 I am saying as a "What if the roles were reversed"
@@Vahmung Ah, I understand now. Than, what if Mephala was a Aedra? What she be like?
I have a question that's been Burning in my mind if ANYONE can answer it.
When working for the Thieves Guild in Elder Scrolls Oblivion, during the Ultimate Heist, you proceed to the Basement of the Imperial Palace....
So... What is up with all the HUGE items??? There's a Giant sized throne, magic ball, and A massive spiked bat-like weapon, and I have NO IDEA who they could've belonged to or the lore behind them! If anyone can shed light on this topic, It would be GREATLY appreciated!
Ask Camelworks, its a perfect theme for an Elder Scrolls Detective! He has an active discord
If Scott shaves his facial hair and takes of his glasses, he can be a Resident Evil character.
Michael had the best timing for that, 😂
49:06 Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle
I ll return to ESO when Mephala is back in game...
Always good to have a new podcast
Mephala is the Daedric Prince of politricks.
Hey michael, have you considered do an is it worth it? Series with the rest of the daedra? Id love to see one about Boethiah
Mephala largely reminds me of the Bene Gesserit from Dune.
Hey Fudgemuppet I love all of the content you guys release. I've been watching you for a while and seen basically all your videos. I can't seem to remember if you've done a Dark Brotherhood podcast. It'd be interesting to dive into the inner workings of the cult, it's customs and beliefs and also the future of the dark brotherhood.
I freaking love these long form discussion videos... you guys are GREAT
"Mephala is deeper than you think"
*Me remembering she is the daedra of sex* 😏
i always have one Vampire character that worships Mephala religiously.
Morag Tong podcast next?
I'm not going to lie the first minute and 20 seconds had me dying 🤣
maybe her sphere isnt known because its everywhere all the time in all of us ;)
1:00:40 - I'm an old ass man. "Speak to me in a language I can hear . . ." - TSP
This is the content I've been waiting for.
I’m pretty sure that Mephala’s Teacher actually appears first in Morrowind.
Hail Sithis and his bride Mephala.
To the title: Oh yeah, baby.
Can't wait to watch this after work
