My boy Peryite has the highest kill count of any Prince but no one pays him any mind because he isn't a diva.
Yep, guy's got a killstreak like no other 😅
He is a pro gamer, he just doesn't use twitch
That's actually a solid point that maybe that's why Perry rate doesn't have to showboat himself cuz he's got the highest kill count and he knows it
Yeah, I never understood why people call him the weakest? I mean he’s literally killed the most people than any other.
I imagine the poor soul or society that pisses him off
"When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."
- Peryite, probably.
I'm putting this on my tombstone as an excuse for being alone 💀

I think Peryite is one of the more interesting daedric princes, he does evil things from time to time, but he doesn't do them for evil reasons. As opposed to somebody like Clavicus Vile who's kinda just in it for fun, Peryite is actually interested in maintaining Nirn, he takes on the role of a proper god
Hes a real 'ends justify the means' kind of guy
“Nobody feels sorry for him, he earned it” sounds like Peryite slighted the other Princes in some way in the past and was forced into doing the taskmaster stuff as punishment. If anything, that implies he’s very powerful if the other princes felt the need to do whatever they did to put him in this position. Maybe he’s cursed like Jyggalag was.
Possible. Pestilence, order of things and tasks is a portfolio that doesn't seem to make sense. A bit like if Meridia was forced to become a patreon of liches. She wouldn't like that.
@@michaelpettersson4919 wait i didnt knew she would be the Patreon of liches the litteral worst undeads which she would hate.
Maybe undead ayleid liches could still worship her?
Peryite would probably be never fighting the stronger princes but I do agree that it sounds like he was cursed in a way. It would also make the pestilence part make sense if he were cursed or even poisoned to make him weaker.
@@shroowooms my dude, he said "IF" meridia are the patron liches
@@fadeddragon123 Do diseases come FROM Peryite or does he just use them as a way to maintain order?
Tin foil hat time: Peryite is the will of Lorkhan embodied after his death as a Daedra, and the other Daedra say he "earned" his role by creating Mundus and allow him to continue his concept of his "natural order" for limiting the power of the Aedra.
To add to your theory peryite is know to take the shape of a dragon as a mockery to akatosh
Bro, this is truly some big brain time
I hope one day we get a Daedric Civil War with Lorkan, And some thing at the end that lets me trade in artifacts from other princes to make a super weapon.
Bethesda, take notes!
Good point.
The Tiny Dragon is actually one of my favorite gods of order. Plus, he gives out Spellbreaker, so he's got my vote.
Peryite for Time God!
Spellbreaker is neat but I never found much of a use for it. I've always found shields with magic resistance enchants more useful at blocking higher damaging spells.
@ilove bigbrother Shhh... No spoilers.
There couldn't have been a better episode to release while I'm busy puking my insides out. Thanks boys!
Damn get better take it easy.
You okay, bro?
WHOA! I woke up so constipated I thought I got a hernia in my sleep and the first thing I did was turn on Fudgemuppet to try and lay back and recover! Same same!
Hope you feel better, buddy.
Get well soon!
I have a gut feeling Peryite is a lot stronger then many think and its hard to tell cause he does not show boat at all and yet NOT ONE of the other princes talk down about him or stand against him and that to me has always peeked my interest towards him.
It's like the quite one, everyone knows what his about and no one wants to deal with silent rage.
Ah yes, the chaotic, daedric Prince..... of order.
That's Jyggalag, Peryite is more specifically the natural order
@@lordinquisitorsec7532 he just making a joke dude lol

@@Ghornuin I always sneak kill that guy lmao
“Yes, you can become my new Thrall!”
I've always considered the concept of natural order to be the order that comes from things that people cannot outright decide themselves. Peryite can send out a plague as a form of population control but he can't control who dies, who recovers and who is immune to the illness. Natural selection is a form of natural order, in which nobody actually does the "selecting" and yet the population is culled regardless. Peryite isn't deciding who gets to live and die to create order, he is just rolling a die and letting the outcome decide itself.
Plague, famine, drought and other such natural disasters have a kind of "natural order" to them because they regulate the population while also keeping up the most natural order that is life and death. All people die eventually and most die through no fault of their own. Nobody decides that it will happen but it happens regardless simply because it must. What is more natural of an order than that?
In my opinion, Peryite's spheres of Natural Order and Pestilence are more about the order in the things that we cannot control, change or predict naturally and his sphere of Tasks is more about the pointless work and planning that we put into avoiding the inevitable fact that we are all going to meet a fate that we cannot avoid in the end.
I don't think it's a coincidence his name being so similar to fool's gold, and him looking like a dragon but not actually being one.
Always a joy to hear you guys enjoy the lore! Peryite is definitely a janitor, I mean, look at how passionate he is about his work! He probably wasn't very popular as a young daedra, always ostracised, always tidy, always forgotten.
He's grown up now and he was getting ready for the big Nirn party, but the other daedra forgot about him again. So he stayed to tidy up.
He's destined to rule the next Kalpa, so the other Daedra belittle him while they still can.
Being honest dumb as it might sound ever since they started I've been desperately waiting for this specific episode..... my boi Peryite is getting some representation! Thank you Fudgemuppet!
Bethesda,..... make Peryite the main Daedric Prince in Tes 6, please and thank you!
@@Just_Another_Gravemind Peryite will never be the main threat because he doesn't try to interfere with the natural order of things. It's just not his nature
@@idipped2521 I don't mean he has to be a threat, just a key character. What if for example he was helping you to restore order after the oblivion crisis or something similar blew it out of control, plus I mean just a pip dream, most likely he won't have a big role in any elderscrolls media for a long time to come, if ever.
@@Just_Another_Gravemind Not a fan.. I kinda want him to stay in his subliminal role; but Id like a bit more elaboration on his motivations :)
@@EinFelsbrocken that would work too, I just love Peryite and like him to get some love and limelight in the future
4:37 - I think the difference between Jyggalag and Peryite's versions of "order" is that with Jyggalag it's a sort of perfect order. A well oiled machine where every component works perfectly and not a single thing ever goes in a way that's unexpected. It's a sort of blemishlessness ideal with shining towers with perfectly smooth surfaces. It's artificial perfection. Peryite's version of order is basically a maintenance of the natural status quo. To keep things running as they have always run. After life and growth comes death and decay. After an empire's expansion comes its destruction and fall. That sort of thing. There's nothing perfect about it. But it makes sure things can go on eternally. Because without people dying there is overpopulation, without empires collapsing there can't be new empires, etc.
Jyggalag's empire would stand forever in perfect stasis, Peryite's empire would rise in glory, then fall to disease and then give way for a new empire to rise and repeat the cycle.
39:28 - I always imagined Peryite's realm as kind of like a gigantic basement where new daedra are born again from the ooze that seeps from his furnaces and those trapped there are constantly dragging out the newborn daedra and forging their armour and creating new diseases and getting affected by them but continuing to work tirelessly anyway, etc. And when you look up all you see is endless rock and maybe the occassional glimpse in a hole in the ceiling where you can see one of the other planes of Oblivion above you.
Been waiting for this one, Peryite is my favorite Prince and needs some more attention!
I know! Peryite needs more recognition
"He earned it." quote could be seen as he was forced into that role as some sort of punishment. Perhaps a betrayal or something he did in the ancient past.
I've always felt that Peryite was the strongest of the daedra, but that his chief responsibility was in keeping all of the plains of Oblivion balanced so that's why we the player never see much of him.
You guys inspired me to RP a new playthrough in Skyrim, after the hundreds I've already put into it. Love you guys!
*Insert Dr. Evil Quotation Marks Meme* "RP"
How do you RP when Skyrim is so Rigid? Mods, perhaps?
@Sanguine I know right. Itd be thousands without actual responsibilities in life. But alas.
@@repubblesmcglonky8990 Same way you would RP in D&D - you get your inner SpongeBob and you play with "Imagination!"
@@Lonelywookiee True, I had an imagination once, I used to pretend CJ from GTA San Andreas was a Black James Bond in a Tuxedo who would roll around the Docks with a Silenced Pistol xD
@@repubblesmcglonky8990 Lmao, that's actually pretty dope
The difference between Namira nad Peryite is that Namira wants to corrupt everything and pull it into her void, where as Peryite want to strengthen the world by weeding out the weak through natural processes such as disease or famine or infestation.
Peryite can almost be seen as a servant of Lorkhan, keeping his project running smoothly in his absence. Namira is really something outside of the other Daedra, particularly if you believe in the Khajiiti explanation of her bing an Urdra or Proto-Daedra, and thus is more akin to the Oversouls of Anuriel and Sithis.
Tasks and pestilence huh? this guy's just a hospital god
Our favorite plague dragon/taskmaster is definitely one of the more interesting due to his mystery and seemingly lack of major ego. He’s also very busy behind the scenes and not necessarily evil either. He does what he does is necessary or what he things may be best
It makes you wonder if “natural order” means if another daedric prince disrupts the natural order they are his enemy?
I don’t know if he is the weakest either. Just because it’s implied by other princes who have massive egos or because he doesn’t do much to keep a presence on nirn doesn’t mean he is and we may never know how powerful he actually is. He’s definitely not going to be fighting the strongest princes obviously though
I do find it weird that he doesn’t task mortals more often though- like in the events of ESO you would think he would try to try to help stop things because that would disrupt his sphere
My personal theory is that he was once more powerful but the other princes cursed him
Or poisoned him to make him
Weaker, that would make the pestilence part make more sense
I think his ill-defined sphere and kind "odds and ends" nature is intended. He's a being without a clearly defined place, working hard to maintain order where no one else will.
But yes I get your point entirely, he should be tasking mortals very often, perhaps to do small or insignificant things.
And I think the pestilence part is just his main tool of indirectly applying his ideas of balance. Perhaps plague and disease are his "natural powers" so to speak and thus it's what he's known for.
The connection between tasks, pestilence and decay is endurance. Or to put it another way - strength. To complete a task requires both the skills and the strength to complete it and perhaps even the endurance to continue after setbacks. Someone with the skills to perform a task but without the strength, be it physical or mental, may as well not have those skills at all. That is why we can see the connection to disease and decay.
Some diseases are physical and others are psychological, in either case these conditions test a person's endurance when under trial. The strong last longer than the weak. Likewise decay is the measure of physical endurance for mortals as the aging process is nothing more than the result of decay. But decay can also be a measure of strength in inorganic matter be it stone, metal or fabric.
So those who recognize this fact also recognise this Daedric Prince as someone who separates the weak from the strong which in turn ensures that mortal life is continuously becoming stronger. Seen in an almost Darwinian light that makes Peryite essential to the continuation of life within Nirn as a nessersary force for change.
It is pretty damn smart idea. I like it. We can even add to the mix that if he rule decay he rule of the decay of the civilisations as well? I mean what if he have power over the eras as well becasue decay can mean ethical and cultural degeneration as well as we can see with the ayleids.
This is actually the outlook I used for a Barbarian character I made for an ES inspired DnD game I'm playing lol. All about overcoming each trial and task sent his way in order to grow
@@randomspectator4417 And is probably the same reasoning used by the Reachmen. The same logic is very applicable to us today with the pandemic. I'm not saying it's good to have the weak culled. My point is that these difficult times can be seen as an opportunity to grow.
Many have taken up new hobbies to develop skills they never had before being isolated, those isolated with family have no doubt had to learn to be more patient and forgiving which are both valuable qualities and everyone who comes out the other side of this will be stronger and more confident when future pandemics or natural disasters occour because they've faced similar trials before.
Decay and disease are destructive factors of our life, but so is fire. Yet we put ores under intense heat, burn them and destroy the impurities resulting in the more precious and valuable qualities to remain. It isn't accurate to see destructive things as only evil or wrong.
I feel like there is a connection between him “deserving it” and him looking like a dragon. I feel like the Daedra hate akatosh so they would hate dragons too.
A theory about malacath hit me while I was listening to your podcast on him the other day. Aedra are supposedly the mixed blood of Anu and Padomay while daedra are the blood of Padomay. So If that's true, when boethiah "ate" trinimac, maybe she absorbed/removed the anuic blood from him, leaving only the padomaic blood? Also what if boethiah absorbed the anuic blood into herself? 🤔
It's more a case that the only two entities that aren't a mix of Anu and Padomay are Auriel/Akatosh and Lorkhan, being each others counterparts. The other Aedric Divines and Daedric Princes are a mixture, just some being more on one side of the scale than others.
That's an interesting concept- even if she didn't take anything from him, if she just, I don't know, brought the padomayic blood to the forefront, that might have been how she did it. Like stirring up sand and silt at the bottom of a lake, it would look as though the water were dirty but it was there all along, sitting at the bottom but nobody payed attention to it.

Spellbreaker for Peryite makes perfect sense. If Peryite is the manifestation of the natural order. Then anything that disrupts that order would need a counter, and I can't really think of any mortals who disrupt the natural order more than the one's that practice in magic.
They reanimate corpses, throw ice, heal wounds, and try to make themselves Gods. Among many other things. Taking a shield that does the whole "I'm rubber. You're glue." thing to mages doesn't really strike me as being far fetched.
Something I got curious about during a recent Skyrim playthrough - So, the Aedra (at least) are shaped by the faiths of their believers, iirc. Peryite is kinda like the Akatosh of the Reachfolk. So... What if a second batch of Longhouse Emperors successfully pushed for Akatosh to be given bits of Peryite's portfolio?
Would there now be two dragon deities of Natural Order - or a single Aedric-Daedric entity?
I don't know, but it's interesting to think about.
Finally my boy gets the recognition he deserves
I think when they say Peryite earned his job and the reason why he takes the form of a dragon is because he is supposed to be the chief of the gods in the next kalpa, hence why he is relegated to the lowest realms of Oblivion. Heard that theory from somewhere, maybe it was Zaric I think. Also, his sphere is the natural order of things which has to do with time so the theory makes sense. I think he should have a bigger role in the next game as many have said, although he will never try to interfere too much in the natural order of things such as Dagon or Molag Bal
I have a theory (with almost no evidence) that Peryite is the chaotic aspect of Aka. During the Middle Dawn, when Aka was broken, the most padomaic became Peryite, Shor became the human head, Auri-El the Dragon Head, and the most anuic became Alduin
Really hoping that in ES6 we get a new artifact for Peryite. Something similar to Miraak's staff would be cool. Spellbreaker is neat but it doesn't reflect Peryite at all imo
Sure it does, it stops magic which is altering the natural order
It's kinda like Malacath. It's just a Dwarven artifact. Bur that's just what a lot of Deadric princes give out.
I stand outside my local Oblivion portal every Tuesday and clap for Peryite as an essential worker.
Underrated comment
Order with the princes I felt that Jyggalag's order is "this is how it will be" or "bring chaos to order" control order
while Peryite's order is "this is how it is" or "chaos brings order" natural order
He is a janitor in the same way as the one from the game Control. Few realise how much power and influence he actually holds.
Missing the additional weekly upload, but I completely understand. Aside from schedule changes, creating engaging content inspired in 10~ year old games or more can be a gargantuan task when the total lore is finite. Anyway, thanks for another podcast!
As a biologist, Peryite always intrigued me! He basicly is de god of natural selection and evolution... so, Darwin!
I laughed when I saw this thumbnail. Finally a podcast about the Pery Pery Dragon.

Look at his name: Pery(Perish)ite(unite). Maybe he unites the perished mortals with his 'natural' actions.

Something interesting is that in Daggerfall Peryrite says the Player Character looks like someone he met in the 1st Era. I wonder who this could be.
Waking up to a new episode when I have to do finals... you truly are the superior tribunal. Loving that intro my lords
I wish we'd get more with Peryite in es6. I like the idea of him being the deity for sickness and natural order a lot, like getting rid of the weak to make way for the strong. Straight darwinist
I've listened to every episode thus far. Great work guys!

I think you may have missed out on some talking points. 1. Kyne gifts skeever souls to Peryite (why? Does he have some mutual purpose in preserving natural order on Nirn and in Oblivion? The nords don't worship Daedra, Kyne is important, wth is going on?) 2. The comparisons to the first horseman of the Apocalypse, Pestilence. 3. The tie into Peryite and the Dwarves who fled to Hammerfell (Elder Scrolls 6 potential?) Is there potential for this clan to have ties to him?
I know the topic was limited based on information provided. I love the content and love when you guys riff and go explore the topics both on and off script.
Idea for another topic, Daggerfall talked about Daedra alliances- what about a TMZ discussion on Daedra Prince and Gods messing with each other? Who are friends vs who are enemies? Who got betrayed, sort of thing.
The whole thing about people just being “vessels for his gift” makes me think of the Medea Hypothesis
You didn't talk about Marthine, a cultist who explains his reasons to follow Peryite: before, he was a nobody, but when he got sick, everyone started noticed him and run away from him. I guess it's a motive as good as any else.
Peryite is the stagehand and the rest of the daedra are on the stage. They’re the stars but it all because peryite kept everything flowing smoothly
I would say there is a bit of interplay between hircine and peryite. The predator and prey relationship is a good example of the “natural order” that he presides over. The predator culls the weak from the herd and the herd is made stronger because of it.
Remove wolves from yellow stone and quickly herbivores eat all the vegetation desolating the landscape until nature evens things out. Either herbivores starve to death as their population grows too large to sustain from their food or predators thin their numbers out. If they do not starve or get hunted then their population density increases to where disease spreads amongst their ranks.
They DID remove the wolves from Yellowstone and it didn't work well at all so they had to reintroduce them.
Peryite is the least remembered Daedric prince, honestly.
I dont think its reductive to call Peryite the cosmic janitor, because a building without custodial workers would fall apart and stop running sooooo quickly
Noice. So hype was waitin all week for this. My fav part of the week 4 sure
Peryite sounds like the Janitor of Oblivion........
Love this conversation keep up the great work guys
Oh god, one quest in ESO had you find daedric cultists... Anyways you end up finding Peryite followers who weren't all there, I think they were holding hands at one point.
Peryite, the janitor of oblivion
Peryite created the Rat Plague in Dishonored- change my mind
The "lamest" daedra somehow raised the most ire and headbutting
I always thought Peryite seemed like Nurgle because of the whole disease thing but assumed it was a very surface-level comparison. But if Pery Pery Dragon is also the god of natural order that also sorta matches Grandpappy Nurgle being the god of stasis.
So y’all seem to think Peryite may have a bigger role in TES6. But regardless of the Daedric prince that gets the most attention, what if TES6 changed up the formula and this time around your main objective was to HELP a Daedric Prince this time around, rather than try to stop them? It doesn’t have to be a Planemeld or Oblivion Crisis type situation.
The blight might sound familiar because it’s one of the things you get past the ghost gate 0.5 seconds after inhaling

Are you guys gonna do a special podcast for #50? I've watched every video you upload for a couple years now and I'm so excited for it
Peryite definitely has the vibe of someone way more powerful than they let on.
11:13 it’s also super interesting that they say “intended”; intended by whom? Intended by Lorkhan? Intended by the Godhead? Intended by Peryite himself? It’s a very specific wording that implies a lot.
I do think the term “Natural Order” is extremely confusing. “Nature” is always a super problematic word- if the atoms were always going to collide this way, why does one thing count as natural and another thing not? Why are sentient species often considered separate from nature as opposed to part of it? It’s a very vague and not-particularly-useful concept.
Every instinct I have toward defining Natural Order doesn’t really work. If it’s supposed to be like natural selection, why isnt that covered by Hircine’s hunting/survival themes and Mehrunes Dagon’s ambition? Peryite is heavily associated with disease, which I suppose is a natural way to die, but like… so are a ton of others
Another great one guys 👌🏾
Was so disappointed when he appeared as a spectral skeever aspect in Skyrim when Skyrim had actual dragon models in the game that could’ve been used to depict him. Such an awesome prince
Remember, that's just an aspect of him. Peryite is unfathomably busy keeping the planes of Oblivion balanced so he sends skeevers, one of his most sacred symbols to speak with you.
Pery wishes to not draw attention to himself and a huge, green dragon-like being at the top of a mountain is PRETTY noticable so.

Imagine what would happen if the Dragon Born devoured pyrites soul? Lol cool mod side quest idea.
He only look like a dragon, he isn't one. Not even Alduin is an actual dragon and that is why the Dragonborn could not absorb his soul when he was defeated in Sovngarde.
@@michaelpettersson4919all dragons come from akatosh, who himself is the dragon of time. I don't understand the logic there.
