I've had my blue dial YachtMaster 40 for two years now and I love it. Definitely a future classic. Excellent review, I agree with all of your comments.
In other previous reviews it has been stated that the whole bazel is platinum along with the dial of the older model yatchmaster. I see your point on some modern features like the blue lume I still prefer my classic yatchmaster than the new ones, I bought the watch as I did not want to flow the sub crowd. Nice review.
Hi from Holland, I've just ordered the 126622 YM40 Blue Dial and will make a video of it once received. Thanks for sharing this great video of an awesome watch.
Panda Hi, I had both (platinum dial vs blue dial) delivered to the AD to see them side-by-side in the flesh. I went for the blue dual and it wasn't a difficult decision for me. Both are stunning, "but" the red second hand against the blue dual is special. In fact, he readability of the blue dial / white hour marks / hands is superior (if the platinum one catches the light, which it does, it can be difficult to read the time). Like the review says: very nice watch! Wears really well: you don't even notice it's on, it's so comfortable and it "feels" like quality (of course, it's a Rolex!) Enjoy the dilemma...!!
Great review again Wayne. Have completely overlooked this model in the past. I've not been a fan of the platinum coloured dial and bezel model, but the blue works really well. Keep up the great reviews.
Yes you have made a proper decision, a decision to spend 2k USD more than a sub or an Explorer. Don't get me wrong it's a beauty but it is a step up the Rolex food chain. My only other problem with it is I have a GMT Master II Black and the family resemblance is always there especially due to the oyster bracelet. Nice review. What is your opinion of this watch with the rhodium dial.
Thanks for a very high quality review. The 116622 blue dial is the only Rolex other than the blue dial new steel sky dweller that really attracts me personally. The platinum bezel IS the watch IMHO, but the blue on that dial is incredible as well. The newer one has the "rhodium" dial, I didn't like it at all personally (side by side in person the blue dial one is so much better in every aspect). This is going to be my next watch purchase for sure.
Furst time watching your channel. Really enjoyed your analysis which was spookily accurate because I bought one of these about 6 months ago and everything you said resonated. It was my first Rolex and I considered all the options carefully but being a yachtsman myself I was hugely drawn to this model - and I love wearing it every day both on & off the water!
Good review. Bezel ring is in steel in the 16622? Not sure where you got that from. I'm pretty sure it's PT in both the 16622 and 116622. Jocke showed some evidence on the 16622. I've owned my 116622 for almost 5 years now. I had the blue dial and platinum dial in my hands at the AD and I instantly chose the platinum dial because this was the look I wanted. It's a good watch, I mean nicely executed and very accurate (+1.5 s/d on average in my case). I'm off Rolex these days so I've quit wearing it. Value has been creeping up and I'm in no hurry to sell so I guess it'll stay in my watchbox eating dust until the day I need the cash. Rolex is not all it's cracked up to be. There's a lot of bullshit going around when it comes to Rolex. A lot of marketing dedicated to manipulating sheeple.
@@jonrichenberger7903 I'm trying to remember how I was feeling about Rolex 3 years ago. Yeah, I wasn't happy about the AD treatment. I wanted a Pepsi at the time but couldn't get on any list at local ADs. Things improved shortly after for me and I made peace with the brand. My resentment vanished and I was able to enjoy wearing my Rolex watches once again. The YM pt has been by far my most worn watch in the past 8 years. I love it. To answer your question, in terms of several other brands worth checking out, I don't really see anything else offering the same overall package for the money, all things considered, including brand equity. I do wear other brands though, the usual suspects, Omega, Breitling, Longines, micro brands. My most valuable piece is a VC Patrimony, a grail.
@@Nexus.Achiles Would love a Patrimony. Excellent choice, and kudos re: the open and candid explanation of your original statement. I can understand feeling bitter about the games one must play. Cheers.

Watch Hobbyist not really man, if you stuck a fluted bezel on this and ditched the crown guards, in terms of design this really is a lot like the dj 2. The differences are in minor detail, not really in terms of how it's worn, how it feels and what occasion it's suitable for. I'm going to check out the rhodium version, i like the look of it, maybe I'm totally wrong. Are these generally in stock? I know harrods have them in stock as the only rolex sports steel.
The YM is a watch that has the tonneau case of a Daytona, the dial of a Submariner, and a Hybrid bezel that's bi-directional and not fluted. The DJ comes in many forms, all of which are taller and longer, lending to a much larger watch overall. The YM is easily available in any guise, and if Harrods don't have, I'm sure the boutique at One Knightsbridge will be a good second option.
Watch Hobbyist thanks, in depth reply, I have the dj 2 which I actually consider a more of asports watch because of its size. I'll wear that when I look at this. BTW, did you buy the aquanaut in Canary Wharf? I had a very positive experience with the dealer there.

A mate of mine just added one of these to his collection. Stunning watch, love the blue dial with the red accents. That curved case is gorgeous too.
+Steve Pascoe Yeah the design flows really well

I never liked the original YM with the silvery dial as I found it very hard to read. This is a great improvement.
Hi mate, any further thoughts a couple of years down the line?
This blows the sub away.
how deep do you think scuba divers dive? maximum 30-40 m
Great watch but that sunburst blue dial can be a little bit jarring. I prefer the 116622 solid platinum dial or even the rhodium coloured one.
I prefer the blue, as I find the other options a little bland
The Best Rolex ever!!!
can't decide between blue or grey dial.
Blue all the way for me
With the mirror finish will it scratch easier and more noticeable
Why does the second hand jumps occasionally faster than the normal movement? Can some one help me understand this please.
The video was edited and therefore the second hand jumps the amount that was edited out.
Dumbass
Well done review. Enjoyed your analysis. Thank you.
Thanks Scott, glad it was helpful
No way?!?! My grail! Beautiful watch and great review!
Thanks :-)
do you recommend this or the one with the blue hand?

Great video! This watch is growing on me. It's sleeper just like the explorer II.

AlTheEngineer my first n hard to beat unless bling bling
Amazing review thanks I was between Rolex Milgauss or Yachtmaster Blue I think is a unique piece
Thanks, I'd go for the YM40 over a Milgauss due to the case thickness
Personally, can't abide the polished centre links - just scratch magnets.

Really glad to hear that, thanks. I'd say it's one of the most versatile watches money can buy really.
Even though its rated to 100m, I guarantee it can go 300m with the trip lock crown
Most likely, however it's the case-back and crystal that would also be limiting factors

@Andrew Lim So-called recognition is the fruit of clever marketing, nothing more. They're not better watches than several other brands priced lower.
@Andrew Lim Good watches but way overpriced for what they are, that's where clever marketing comes in.

Sorry, but for me this watch looks very Seiko like
+Cedar Canoe I can see the resemblance in photos but in reality, it far surpasses the quality of any Seiko I've owned or do own.
Lol, wut?? Which ref Seiko looks like this?!! I'll take 2, thanks ...
Seiko makes bequtiful, high quality watches. I enjoy my Seikos. This is not a Seiko.
I own the 116622 and a Seiko, worlds apart.
