Reminds me of the time, at supper one time, I saw 6 guys at the table next to me all wearing full gold Yacht Masters. I was so pleased I went with the Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph 5980R-001. The people they let in these days. Love it.
I am finally at a spot where I am able to buy my first Rolex. Advise from a friend I was going to ADs to get on lists and drum up friendships with salesman. First stop they had ya typical inventory but nothing jaw dropping. Second spot they had literally nothing except this watch laying in display like someone just looked at it. Salesman says sorry that spoken for. Someone just is picking up. Well manager walks out and says ,“no that person can’t make it “ I look at salesman and say I’d love to own it. He goes today’s your lucky day. Even though other salesman had buyers, he sold to me. I’m assuming because he would have lost commission. So my first Rolex I bought on 2/26 is this masterpiece. You talking about it has reassured me that this will be with me forever. I love it and thank you for all your stories and passion about your watches. Great Channel
This video is super well done and completely hits the mark on the YM40 position within the Rolex range. I was in the market for my first Rolex - targeting a GMT, Sub or Daytona. After seeing this video the YM came onto my radar. I eventually purchased the YM40 Rhodium and I could not be happier. It truly is the most elegant model in the steel sports range. You can dress it up or down with ease. But the thing overlooked on this video is how comfortable it is to wear. This watch is so creamy on the wrist, it’s unreal. I agree this is one of the best Rolex additions ever. Cheers mate, I love watching your videos!
I remember this video, what a perfect beginning to the channel. I have this watch, and can say it is absolutely stunning. It has been my favourite since I bought it, and every time I switch back to any other piece, I quickly come back to this. The. Sub and GMT have the slab side, and once you feel the YM curves, you always notice the brute corners of the other professional watches. I am not a fan of chronographs and use the timing bezel a lot, so to me it beats the Daytona. The YM is thinner than the Sub, GMT and Daytona. It’s the thinnest professional Rolex available. And the Rhodium dial is the most stunning dial from Rolex. To me this is in fact the perfect Rolex.
This IS the perfect Rolex! You are right on, this watch is the perfect combination of dressy and sporty at the same time while not trying to be flashy. After watching this video, I bought mine in December right before the price increase and I love it. I haven't seen anybody else wearing one since I bought it. I subscribed because I love your videos, keep up the great work!
Best kept secret in the Rolex line-up and their most elegant and interesting sports watch by far. Makes the Submariner look agricultural by comparison. Now I just need to buy one before the prices explode.
Man! Love this video and completely sold me on this YM. Found it in the flesh and immediately traded my Batman. YM fits far better and less over hyped which gives the wearer pleasure without screaming I’ve arrived 👍 Thanks for your Time.
I purchased a Yacht Master 40 mm last week......I'm absolutely loving it. The 'slate' dial with the blue secondhand is mesmerizing. It's my second Rolex.
Yes i know your feeling. I feel the same. I bought a Yatchmaster because i do not wanna be part of the mass wearing a Submariner. In particular the black one
I hated Rolex until one day in 2003, I saw the classic YM in an AD showroom and the rest is history, I admire your watch but I am happy with my red second hand, it makes look vintage as oppose to the contemporary blue. YM is certainly a better looking sub, Nice review.
It's nice to hear someone speaking at length about one watch and the feelings which it evokes. Much better than a channel discussing numerous items on trays. Where only specs and prices are mentioned. Nice work 👍
I've had my 116622 for a couple of years now, but with the blue dial and red second hand and lettering which I prefer to the rhodium dial. I absolutely adore it and I frequently get complemented on my choice of watch. The blue dial also catches the light and changes colour just as impressively as the rhodium dial. Great review.
This is my favorite Rolex out of my Collection which is; Daytona Rosegold Chocolate face Daytona Stainless steel black face GMT Batman Oyster Submariner date ceramic And this yachty
Couldn’t agree more ! I’m not really fan of the submariner. But the yatch master, rhodium dial is a beast. It’s thinness made a whole difference. It’s just absolutely stunning
Th yacht master 42 on oyster flex white gold or yellow gold is stunning. this one I don't like. the material sand colours don't match well to my eye and everyone who has one seems to spend a lot of time trying to convince themselves they like it. I think it is the Rolex AD salesman challenge, to see who they can get to buy these. They are the only Rolex sports models I don't like.
Bought one from AD last nov YM two tone everose gold , unbelievable that this is such an amzing looking most underrated watch, my guess is that it may be the next hottest rolex watch, all about hype
Ok, so i went into this video being like its 1am ur not gonna watch a 20 min video but i watched the whole thing u did a really good job and really kept my interest. I agree the yacht master is amazing i have 2 yachtmasters
In addition to being beautiful, elegant, graceful and manly to me the dark rhodium version has a industrial feel, not dissimilar to a grey dial Nautilus or Royal Oak. I love how it glimmers under light and I especially love how it's shiny contoured side with crown and guards just peeks out from under a shirt cuff. I completely agree, the dark rhodium version is a gem in the catalog and I hope it doesn't become overly popular. Great content!

A lot of people don't understand what you just described about this watch. Thanks for your comment.
Yachtmaster 40 is hands down the nicest Rolex IMO. Didn't get hip to that till recently. Just saw your videos - you're the man! I don't really like most of the watch reviewers but you got it going on on all fronts Keep em coming
Not sure how many times I have watched this video at this point, more than 5 at least. You channel is still the best on UA-cam with a combination of art, story telling and information. I do plan to rejoin your channel as soon as I am able. I love this watch and it is currently at the top of my list for Rolex. The older GMT Masters and GMT Master IIs had the more elegant cases. A pity Rolex has gone aways from that. Keep them coming as always. Cheers,
Purchased one in early 2020. This video was one of main reasons and I'm just coming back and watching it today for first time in a couple of years. At that time, I had an OP 36 but it just was not satisfying so I sold it and bought this. Believe it or not, I got the rhodium YM40 on secondary market below retail though it had never been worn. Rolex prices dropped a bit in the early COVID days before they shot up more. Anyway, I could sell now for about 50% more than what I bought it for but I never will. Amazing watch. I love it. It's the most worn watch in my collection and hard to go more than a day or two without putting it on. It just feels so right on the wrist and has an incredible elegance. It's definitely the perfect Rolex for me.
Well just 2 months ago I bought an amazing 2008 Submariner 16610 after watching your upload ‘ The perfect Rolex Submariner NO Waitlist’ a watch that I am in love with. Two days ago I walked into my AD and was surprised to see a YM40 on display, a watch that I had never seen in person before. I was amazed how the bezel came to life under light. I put the watch on hold and raced home to watch this review again. I went straight back to the AD when they opened in the morning and bought this watch. Got the blue dial though but I have no regrets with my choice I love it. Thank you once again for your wonderful review...
How would you compare it with the blue dial ? I am contemplating between two and have 24 hours to decide on the rhodium, as I originally wanted blue but rhodium is what was offered by my AD.
I prefer the blue dial because it seems more interesting and and doesn’t blend together as much as the rhodium. I actually think both are handsome but one has more contrast and one is more understated. I find myself grabbing for it more than I thought I would as a daily. I look at it as a higher end sub. I do agree it’s way less common.
Dude - nice channel. You know about watches without being all F-U with the good pieces or shilling for Google ads with cheap ones. Not enough real people on YT. Just subscribed.
I totally agree. I think the grey rhodium Yacht-Master is Rolex's most elegant watch. I have the 37 mm (ladies' version) one and I was afraid it might be too masculine on me, however it looks great on my wrist and I much prefer it to my Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch as it looks great as a dressy watch, too.
Found your channel yesterday when I was searching videos about the Rolex Explorer 214270. Was lucky to buy the Explorer mark II a few months ago from my AD, timeless under the radar watch. Love this Yacht-Master absolutely gorgeous watch. Elegant, not in your face, mysterious and has the right colours and isn’t too thick (deep). I have an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra which has the same colour seconds hand, it makes all the difference having that kind of pop, love that watch very special to me as my wife got it for me on our wedding. My third watch is the Rolex Submariner 116610LV, it’s great but as you said becoming too common. Great channel love the videos keep it going and I’m sure your channel will grow, the intro is fantastic the quality of the videos makes all the difference. You have a soothing voice! And love the no BS attitude! Fellow Celtic here I’m Welsh-arab (interesting combination eh! P.S. All the best against the All Blacks on Saturday.
Some of your points are why I decided to go with the OP 39 rhodium dial. I found its understated yet sophisticated. It would go with shorts, t-shirt, and converse or dressed up in a suit and tie. Also everyone seemed to have the air King, subs and explorer. I wanted something different!
Beautiful watch, the Yachtmaster. Especially with the Rhodium dial. Gorgeous! And i see how much thinner the case is compared to the Submariner and GMT. Almost like a Datejust. Rolex is so good at blurring the lines between Sporty and Dressy or business casual. Like the Datejust for example. It could pass for business and casual sporty look as well. But the Submariner, GMT, and Yahtmaster are more sporty. Either way, you're covered when you own anyone of these models. You are getting two for one.
Just got mine about two weeks ago, just like yours with the rhodium dial. Great watch! Everybody notices that watch, it’s subtle but not too subtle. Funny it looks better on you than it does on me 😂. But I am enjoying the hell out of it and have my name in for an explorer, datejust with a fluted bezel and a jubilee, and 0P 39
Earlier this year I got a Yachtmaster 40 Rolesor as an early 40th birthday present. My wife and I were in an AD looking for a Submariner, but I’m glad they didn’t have any for all the reasons you described... Love it!
Just watched the yachtmaster video can't agree more with everything you said . Went to AD for a gmt but told no chance and do I have a second choice I said the yachtmaster and just six weeks later got the call , so glad as it's the perfect watch . Thanks for the great content
I really like that you compare this watch next to the Submariner AND GMT Master II and hold them up to each other. This is very useful for those of us who are still having a hard time making up our minds which one to buy, without having to visit an AD. Thanks so much!
Last time I bought Rolex (3 years ago) I had it narrowed down to the Yacht Master 40mm, Milgauss 116400GV and the Explorer. I ended up with the Explorer because I felt it was more versatile. I’m about to buy another and it’s down to this and the Milgauss again. Good video.
I really wanted to like the Rhodium but the blue with popping red marker is just so much more interesting especially in daylight or direction sun. You can stare at it for hours. If you are a boat enthusiast like I am it reminds you of the water and that just makes sense with this line.
THAT IS A SEXY WATCH! The blue... wow. Still need to burst my rolex cherry but im still going to go 116610LN, i know boring. Still need to get even the chance to actually buy one. My brother is certain he wants the 114060 and i respect that, i want it too but i need a date. Love this channel and i love your chat dude. I find myself agreeing with most of what you say. I have watched other watch channels and Basel world predictions; you are the man. Need a beer with you! Love how your chilled, super detailed without seeming like you have done much research bt still knowing so much. Feel like i am on the same page as you but not as eloquent and descriptive. Keep doing what your doing! peace
Have to say, I stumbled across your channel completely by accident. But I'm so glad I found it now, I love your blunt honest opinions and how you don't let the trends change that. Keep up the good work man. This YM and Explorer mark 2 are my grail watches, going to London next week hoping I'm lucky and can buy one.

Thanks Ethan! Good luck in London! Hopefully you return with something beautiful on your wrist!
Exceptional review - I was already sold on this YM40 but another commenter on another video told me to watch this review so I did and now I'm doubly sold! Hurry up money, get into my account......
Definitely the best Rolex. Had mine 11months now and it still makes me smile. Think it will get discontinued next year as it will be 10 years old. (Fingers crossed)
The dial , the size and the architecture of the case is better than the Sub and GMT. 110% my grail piece ! ... so much better than the new boring 41m Subs 👌🏻 12:32 🥰🤩😍
This is also my favorite Rolex! It's a VERY underrated watch. It's a decent price too. My other favorite is the Sky dweller yellow gold with the black dial and oysterflex bracelet
The Yacht-Master was and is the Sub 2.0. Nicer, more elegant case, bigger indices and that platinum bezel. Perfect. I took an will take my Yacht-Master all day long over a Sub. Mine with platinum dial looks perfect to everything imo. And it‘s so comfortable to wear. Just awesome. Great video and suggestions. 👍🏻
You don't need to own a Yacht to own a yacht master... Pretty sure guys that own Subs don't go deep sea diving .. or guys that Own Breitlings all fly or own airplanes...
Great watch. I already had the silver faced YM but I had to have to Rhodium dial with the blue second hand because I loved the second hand color. I want to get the blue dial with red second hand to complete the trio. Nice vid!
A great review! I think today is the 3rd or 4th time I have watched it and you nailed it! Great photography/camera work and you speak very well. Bravo. Liked and subscribed!
Writing as a diver and a Rolex collector, this watch is more than adequate for scuba diving. Reaching a modest 30 metres is a deep dive. Rolex test their watches to an extra 25%.
No its perfect. If you wear a larger one at the moment you will think its small if you havent wore a 40mm before but after a couple days it seems large again its weird . I have one and chose this over a deepsea and im 6ft 2 and over 100kg
@@sh-cc6vj very good point! My largest watch is a 42mm speedy and I do have smaller watches too. I guess i was visually comparing it to the sub (which the AD had there as well) and it does look smaller at 1st glance. But you're right. I bet it starts to look perfect as you start wearing it, vs side by side comparing.
Oisin love your videos and content and actually use them when evaluating watch acquisitions. I just came across this older video as Im considering a Yacht-Master Everose with Chocolate dial. My question is I have about a 7-1/4 wrist, do you think the 40 in the YM has enough size for that wrist size and do you still feel as strong about this watch. Thanks
Went out for dinner once, on table next to me was 4 guys all wearing Subs. I was so happy I went with the Yacht Master. Love it.
I'm surprised the Taco Bell didn't ask you to leave.

Just a perfect watch… This piece should be a pinnacle of sports/luxury watch. Kudos for a great review, taste, and the vision.
Picked up this watch today from a local Rolex AD. 100% agree with all the points you have mentioned.
Congrats!!! A super stunner!!

I could not agree more, also the two tone with rose gold and chocolate dial is beautiful and I hate two tone watches but that one is sweet
Your side-on comparison between the two Rolex watches was essential and brilliant. Yacht Master wins.
This is my dream Rolex personally. It's so unique in so many ways, but can still be low key.
Stunningly beautiful watch and highly under appreciated. I recently picked one up in the silver sparkle dial. It's like a Sub in a tuxedo, love it.

Good video.
I managed to pickup this piece last month. Beautiful piece
Really appreciate this review as I’m picking mine up tomorrow from AD and am really excited. Great review!
Fantastic! Enjoy every minute of it!
I can't decide between the rhodium dial and the blue.... They're both stunners
I really wanted to like the Rhodium but the blue with popping red marker is just so much more interesting especially in daylight or direction sun. You can stare at it for hours. If you are a boat enthusiast like I am it reminds you of the water and that just makes sense with this line.
O azul realmente é lindo!
Which do you prefer this or a steel Datejust 41 with fluted bezel?
Hurry up money, get into my account......
malthus101 enjoy it. It’s a true stunner!
Definitely the best Rolex. Had mine 11months now and it still makes me smile. Think it will get discontinued next year as it will be 10 years old. (Fingers crossed)
I just picked up my new YM 40 Rhodium today!
Agreed! That is one sharp looking watch. That blue second hand....oh my.
Great review. When you see the details of the YM40 and direct comparison with the Sub and GMT it’s hard to disagree that this is indeed superior
Blue dial my first 💙😍❤
Love it, red second hand on blue dial is drops dead gorgeous
I got a call from my AD today! My grail is in. Pick the Rhodium 126622 up on Friday.
The dial , the size and the architecture of the case is better than the Sub and GMT.
110% my grail piece !
... so much better than the new boring 41m Subs 👌🏻
12:32 🥰🤩😍
Asked for this from my AD for my wedding. Just waiting for the call. Update, got the call. Beautiful watch. My 1st rolly too.
Lovely watch , enjoy it…may I ask what is the length of your wrist??
This is also my favorite Rolex! It's a VERY underrated watch. It's a decent price too. My other favorite is the Sky dweller yellow gold with the black dial and oysterflex bracelet
The Yacht-Master was and is the Sub 2.0. Nicer, more elegant case, bigger indices and that platinum bezel. Perfect. I took an will take my Yacht-Master all day long over a Sub. Mine with platinum dial looks perfect to everything imo. And it‘s so comfortable to wear. Just awesome. Great video and suggestions. 👍🏻
I had no idea how great that watch looks! I appreciate the candor of your videos.
Thanks for watching, Eric!!
Really dig your channel, man. Excellent content. Keep it coming
Thanks Blake!
What do you think of the rose gold one? 116621.
Very good review! I own the blue one and love it. Just one thing: the bezel is solid platinum!
Nice vid!
it not an everyday watch like the sub. because it gets scratched up very easily. but as a watch for the weekend or special occasions it is very nice
Best Rolex in the catalogue, I prefer the discontinued platinum dial more though. Great video.
stunning watch, my fave by rolex...tho, after watching this video I'm torn between this one and the with the blue dial (which was my fave..)
Love that rhodium/blue hand contrast.
What do you think about the 37mm version for the wife?
A great review! I think today is the 3rd or 4th time I have watched it and you nailed it! Great photography/camera work and you speak very well. Bravo. Liked and subscribed!
Writing as a diver and a Rolex collector, this watch is more than adequate for scuba diving. Reaching a modest 30 metres is a deep dive. Rolex test their watches to an extra 25%.
A Really beautyful watch. Thx for this video.
Excellent review! Love your channel. Hey, what is your wrist size? I'm a 7.25 (or 18mm) and I'm concerned it might wear small. What do u think?
No its perfect. If you wear a larger one at the moment you will think its small if you havent wore a 40mm before but after a couple days it seems large again its weird . I have one and chose this over a deepsea and im 6ft 2 and over 100kg
@@sh-cc6vj very good point! My largest watch is a 42mm speedy and I do have smaller watches too. I guess i was visually comparing it to the sub (which the AD had there as well) and it does look smaller at 1st glance. But you're right. I bet it starts to look perfect as you start wearing it, vs side by side comparing.
2:43 true. I know 5 guys with black submariners and I'm not kidding.
Played out! I'm trading in mine for a Daytona
One time in an airplane all three guys in the row wear black submariner
I sold it afterward
@@sungmanshin lmao. Even though the color is cool, just too many own them.
Juan Gallardo well said
When you buy a Rolex you wanna be special not mediocre
Oisin love your videos and content and actually use them when evaluating watch acquisitions. I just came across this older video as Im considering a Yacht-Master Everose with Chocolate dial. My question is I have about a 7-1/4 wrist, do you think the 40 in the YM has enough size for that wrist size and do you still feel as strong about this watch. Thanks
High praise for such a understated Rolex ! Rightly so !
my only gripe is the bezel which can look like it still has the protector on it...i'd go with the blue dial i think...
