I've had a Rhodium 126622 since January. Got it without even trying it on and have never regretted it. Every day I notice new things to love about it. Just a fantastic watch.
This must be the best YM 40 review on UA-cam by far. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into the narrative, and the photography is absolutely exquisite. - Chapeau! I personally think that the YM 40 is the best looking modern Rolex sport watch. I have both the Blue and the Rhodium versions and find that whenever I want a more casual, 'under the radar' look, a rubber strap does the trick and the combo looks awesome.
I gotta be honest I was never a fan of the Mercedes hands, think they could do something more slim refined. Great video T! Edit: I thought I was the only one with that opinion but I guess not from the upvotes, I will also say liking them is just fine, I just had to say it, think a revamp is long overdue
I got my dark rhodium 268622 just about a year ago. The 37mm fits my wrist perfectly, and I find myself wearing it just about every day. I see Subs and GMT's all the time, but I can't recall seeing another Yacht-Master in the wild.
Nailed it - great review. I have the rhodium version precisely because of what you said about the blue being a little toy like - the rhodium feels a little more mature and I got the feeling I wouldn’t tire of it like I might with the blue. Besides there are so many other good blue Rolex options but the YM40 rhodium feels special. Agree about the PCLs but that’s what makes it feel special and luxury. Love the rendering with the jubilee - looks fantastic! Keep it up. F
Absolutely love the Blue Yachtmaster. Such a great looking watch. Almost bought one multiple times. The main issue which stopped me is how easily the bezel can be scratched. I am not the easiest on my watches and need the ceramic bezel for my OCD. Would drive me nuts to see scratches on bezel. On the band and even body I can deal with scratches. Bezel I need to be more robust.
The Yacht-Master is my favorite contemporary Rolex. My favorite variation of which is the 40mm with the dark rhodium dial with cyan accents. More low-key than the blue & red combo used here. Mind you blue, red and white together are traditional yachting colors. Still, I have two caveats pertaining to this watch, the first being that the hands are a little too small in relation to the indices. The second pertaining more to the new 3200 series movements, with their apparently much noisier rotors, that now use more shock resistant ball bearings rather than a jeweled staff. A mechanically superior solution maybe, but at the cost of sounding like a Miyota!
Hi. That watch is stunning! Love the blue and just everything about it! High quality! But... Your introduction portion of the video was stunning as well. Like the whole first 1:04 minutes of it. The artwork and just everything was so creative in how you put it together. Just stunning! Brilliantly well done! Happy Thanksgiving to you, your wife, and family!
20:00 you have it perfect.... The jubilee is the only choice here and a little farther along, doing away with the red text and seconds hand, you nailed it. Great video. Thank you.
I met someone today with this exact watch. I think it looked great in person. If I could ever justify saving up that much money for a watch, I would strongly consider getting this model. I did tell the guy I met that I noticed the watch he was wearing and I liked it a lot. He seemed to really appreciate the compliment.
Very educative video, I actually own a 126622 with the blue dial, which I upgraded from the 116622, the watch itself is understatedly stunning, I now wear it as my everyday watch because I just didn't want to take it off from the moment I bought it, the 70 hour power reserve makes a huge difference, Thank you TGV for yet another watch worthy (excuse the pun) video.
Have to agree, this is probably the best & most underrated of the Rolex sports models, and that blue or even the platinum of the previous generation really puts it a cut above vs the Submariner, Surprising though that you mentioned this called more attention vs a sub - I'd have thought the instant recognition of the Sub would call more call attention but then again a platinum bezel does stand out. Great video as always!
Picked up my 126622 in mid March, just before corona virus shut things down here in CA. Absolutely superior to the sub in every way ;-) keep up the good work TGV!
I have an early 2000's Platinum Dial Yacht-Master and save for the clasp, I like the look of it better than the newer blue dial model, specifically because it is not as "Toy Like" as you commented, and the diameter of the dial markers are smaller and thus in better proportion to the Mercedes construct on the hour hand. Mine has the green color lums as opposed to the blue of the newer models.
Perfekt coulorcombination. Red, white and Blue is like the colours in the flagg. First i bought a 116622 and when the 126622 came it was perfect. Love this blue watch and will always do.
The Rhodium grey dial with blue seconds hand version of the Yacht Master 40 is my grail watch, that’s the Rolex which I’ve had my eyes on ever since it was released a few years ago.
Hey Tristano, I hardly find the time to watch your videos currently... That intro is so 100% fitting for the watch. I couldn't see myself with a sub - but I love (especially this) Yachtmaster so much! Awesome watch - great video! Keep up your great work, stay healthy! All the best to you!
THE one best aspect of the case is the beautiful, artistic and curvaceous lugs. The high lustre and polished case edges compliment the bright gleaming looks of the silvery bezel. The deep turquoise dial is a close (red sweep hand) 2nd to the sculpted case. NOTHING but pure delight is this specimen, except the high price of admission that is! My preference is for QUARTZ watches, as I just can't relate to Mechanical Movements inaccuracy! There I said it!! :) Great review!!
My 126622 has been my daily watch since the day I got it for my college graduation. Everything you said in your review is absolutely spot on. Thank you for giving this reference the attention and respect it deserves! Personally I love the color combination because it matches the colors of my university and, being from Los Angeles, it matches the Dodger blue with their red accent. Overall, the watch compliments my personal style of balancing sporty and formal so it is the perfect everyday piece for me.
Bought that a month back mate with chocolate dial (dual tone). What a stunner This watch is.when I watched it in person it’s a superior watch to a sub.The high polish and the dimensions are so beautiful.Actually I went to ask for GMT MASTER 2 (for which I was waiting 1 year), but I saw this on display, tried it on and I was sold.I was just kicking myself for not even considering this watch initially and was ashamed to be following the herd mentality 🙂.So happy with it.
I just wanted to send you my huge thanks for making this fantastic video. I usually get bored during 10 minute watch reviews but here I had 25 minutes of pleasure. Very informative, good picture, good sound, very good speech, I love how rich is your lexicon. And just really thank you for the whole work.
I own a Yacht Master 16622 since 2007 (My first Rolex). This watch is incredible, never skip a beat and is one of my favorites in my entire collection. Ottimo lavoro nella produzione del video! Julio
My ad called me a month ago and was excited thinking it was the pepsi or sub then she brings out this blue ym40 and I forgot it was the only ym40 I ever really considered. I immediately fell in love with the blue dial and contrast with the red seconds hand and more so the red font. It was a no brainer and still in my honeymoon phase with it and will be for a very long time. Maybe one of my favorite watches ever.
19:39 it's no coincidence that you began the "negatives" section of this review with the 76ers practice facility in the background!! 😂 Great video and review as always TGV! Always look forward to a new review!! So happy you're a "local" Philly guy now!
Go for the blue yachtmaster! I’ve been watching your videos for years now, and I think you have a penchant for blue dials. Its polished oyster center-links and red contrast on the dial is the perfect blend of fancy and whimsical that you like. This is also always the piece I go back and forth on wanting and haven’t been able to see one in person yet, but looking forward to it one day! All the best, TGV.
I feel Rhodium dial version of the YM is absolutely stunning. Was about to pull the trigger on that until I got the call for the new Green Sub, but I feel I’ll be getting this soon.
Loving this watch, going into 3 years with it now. Was initially going for rhodium then fell in love with this mesmerizing blue color that really takes on different shades of blue. Also liking the fact that it's not worn by just about anyone and everyone like submariner (don't get me wrong- I still like subs).
Mate you just seem to get it when you talk about this watch. Every point you made is spot on and is the reason I decided to go for this watch. The hardest thing was picking between the blue and the rhodium dial. In the end I went for the blue as the one I could get was unworn as opposed to the grey which was a 2021 (although mint condition). I am on the waiting list for a rhodium so maybe in a few years I can have both…
This watch is so well proportioned and sleek/sporty, I think if they offered it in multiple new additional dial colors and textures, the model's popularity would skyrocket. That bezel is just excellent.
There’s no hybrid metal. Rolesor is just a fancy way of saying “I’m using gold and steel together in the same watch”. Quote from Rolex website. “Rolesor is the auspicious meeting of two metals on a single Rolex watch: gold and steel, with their contrasting colours and radiance, in subtly balanced harmony. The name Rolesor was patented by Rolex in 1933 and has become a true Rolex signature. The concept is simple: the bezel, the winding crown and the centre bracelet links are made of 18 ct yellow or Everose gold (Rolex’s exclusive pink gold alloy); the middle case and the outer links of the bracelet are made of Oystersteel. On white Rolesor models, the bezel alone is in 18 ct white gold.”
Indeed, but ss I said in the video, these hybridized metal combinations are very effective at utilizing the best of both worlds. I went on to explain precisely this in the video, but alas, I had to cut it out to keep it more concise. Thank you for watching Jeffrey Best regards, TGV
Aloha TGV, I love my Yacht-Master 16622, it’s sporty but has an elegance to it, that’s just on spot and no other Rolex sportswatch combines. It’s a more and I think that’s what it was meant be: A more elegant and more modern Submariner with slightly larger indexes. Great content! Thx TGV.
Thanks for doing this video TGV. Last week I finally took delivery of my first Rolex at the AD after a 5 month wait... A blue dial ref. 126622, and I could not be happier. For me, the YM40 is the perfect balance of sport and dress watch. I love the rhodium dial version as well,, but for me, it had to be blue...
Great review TGV. I've spent a few moments with a 116622 (grey dial, blue seconds hand) and you are absolutely right about the Yacht Master. It really is a versatile and elagant time piece. Thank you for yet another history lesson on Rolex. Looking forward to the next one. Regards, Koen
Thank you Koen, that always means a great deal coming from you. Love the baby blue they used on the version you speak of, so cool I wish I could assign special privileges to the most consistent and meaningful Gentry commentators. Hopefully YT will make it possible one day. A discount code for your next watch or something, that would be amazing! Best regards, TGV
I remember watching your first review of the116622 Yacht Master with the blue dial two years ago when I was a couple of weeks from taking delivery of my watch. Well, two years on I still have it and still delighted with it. I am sure the Yacht Master 40 will become a future classic. I have yet to read a negative review regarding this model which isn't surprising, I believe it to be one of the most impressive watches made by Rolex. I'm looking forward to many more years of ownership. Great review TGV, keep up the good work.
That blue dial is absolutely mesmerizing. I agree that the Mercedes hour hand does look a little off. Just looks stubby, chunky, and a little out of place. Beautiful watch though.
Caro signore Tristano, i need your help. Can you tell me or review a watch maker called Ingersoll? Are their watches any good? Grazie e buona giornata.
Great video. Got a YM in 2006 because it was a good looking Rolex that no one would know was a Rolex. Great watch but now feels a little small on the wrist after owning several larger watches. I wore it 24/7 for years - completely reliable/indestructible. So much so that got the wife one as well - the 40mm which looks great. Keep up the good work!
Love the blue dial on this watch , I had a grey dial yatch master and it was just too much grey . I'll keep an eye on this watches and see how they do in prices now that everything is getting a bit cheaper
Couple of months ago I wanted to buy a Datejust. I liked it a lot. Lady who helped me got some other Rolex's to show me. One of them was a YM rose gold and chocolate dial. I am not kidding it just made the other watches look boring and plain. Fell instantly in love with it. Seriously can't understand why it isn't more popular. It's all down to taste of course but I am actually thinking of buying another one in another configuration that's how much I like the watch. Did notice that my particular watch went up a couple of grand so who knows maybe it is taking off now.
I can't wait to watch this video after work as I love the Yacht-Master. I wish they would offer the newer ones with a fully brushed steel bracelet or Jubilee version for a more cosmopolitan style (as they do with the GMT). I remember your thoughts on a previous video that the polished center links amplify any fingerprints/scratches.
Fantastic choice, you lucky thing! I adore that one too. I had no idea it was so popular, then again, I mostly watch the Italian watch channels. Enjoy it a little extra for me please! Thank you, Best regards, TGV
@@WatchUnwind I contacted the AD around September last year and they put me in touch with a different AD in November who'd been able to get one. One year in I still love it
Rhodium over the blue for me too. The blue accents against the Rhodium dial are stunning. If was going to get one Rolex it would be 40mm YM Rhodium hands down. It does it all.
Hi TGV Yes, stunning timepiece. Apart from a GMT Master this would be the Rolex I would like to own most. Especially like the bezel layout with the raised numerals. And that blue dail is fantastic. No problem with the red colors, in fact it looks great. It’s more elegant than, say, a Submariner. Here you can do a James Bond with shirt & tie, and it wouldn’t even be contradictive😊 Keep up the good work👍
Did you even considered the fact you could own a Vacheron overseas for that same price? Twice as classy, makes you look as a refined watch enthusiast instead of a mainstream douche... my two cents
Great review. I talked to Bill O'Brien at Moyer a few months ago when I was in Indianapolis. He was affable and knowledgeable. I wish I lived closer than 250 miles away. Anyway, I own the blue and chocolate YM's. Love them both. The chocolate dial and rose gold complement brown/tan shirts and sweaters better than the blue. My wife thinks I'm nuts, too.
I am 13 years old and a watch collector and expert. For me, I need to be shopping on a budget, so for me since I have a big wrist, I think that the seiko 5kx would be the best steel sports watch for me. However , my absolute grail sports watch would be a AP Royal Oak. The classic steel one. I never really liked the yachtmaster , but if you buy one, I truly hope you choose wisely. Thank you!
Just purchased the Milgauss with Z-blue dial, but this happens to be my favorite watch. My taste is a little different however. For my next one, I'll probably go with the two tone Yachty with everose gold. The brown dial on that one just does it for me. Absolute pure class! Cheers mate!
I ve got a rodium one! My first Rolex and its still the best i own! I ve got gmt batman and seadweller too but yacht is in another league in terms of coolness and eyes satisfatcion. In 2021-2022 will be the new hot reference... keep it now that is affordable
well done! was there a waiting list for it? Ive decided life is too short to keep waiting for a BLNR GMTII, and cant live with the premium from the watch scalpers, so looking into this one.
Out of the many “slept on” Rolex videos I would assert the yacht master by far is the most slept on Rolex. The Air King and Milgaus perhaps at one point but not so much now...the yacht 🛥 is still slept on.
“...this is the only Rolex I would consider upgrading to (from the subby) ...” - OG TGV . Would love to see this beauty grace the collection and come full circle
WOW, I really said that???!?!? You know what, it's still kinda true. I have to admit, I am seriously considering it. Thank you KLC, always appreciate. Stay safe and well my friend. Best regards, TGV
I have an Invicta Popeye that looks sort of like the Yatch Master. The Invicta came with a black second hand against a black faced dial but I got the second hand changed to a red one which suited the red on colliers. What I find cheesy fun is that Popeye's arms are the main dials on the watch.
A guy at my University was wearing this exact watch, and I remember the cheer classiness of the piece so well... probably the first time I've seen a Rolex in person as well... Very entertaining and impecably executed review as always, TGV!
Few days ago I had this watch on my wrist at my AD. The blue dial with the red is so beautiful. IMO the bi directional bezel doesn't do justice to this watch.
This is not the best place to ask this but I don't participate in social media so, how would you approach styling a smart watch specifically an Applewatch on the opposite wrist of a traditional watch. Would you match the band of the Applewatch with chosen traditional watch? Match the bezel? Or keep the Applewatch totally plain and let the Gshock or the Tudor or Rolex be the focus? I'm interested to hear your take on the subject, thanks in advance and keep the very interesting vids coming!
Why calibre 3255 in a yacht master [around 07:30] ? That's a day-date movement, and even the 42mm does not have a day complication. What it does have, however, is a titanium case...
I also don't like the Mercedes hands but the watch is extremely nice. I also agree that the band should be swapped out for 1 with brushed links not polished. Great review as always.
I've been getting ads for Vincero watches and was wanting your opinion on them since UA-cam wants me to buy one. And maybe have a look at a fossil automatic, used to love fossil when I was young, but not sure they are worth the money since I can get an orient or seiko for similar prices.
I'm coming to the party late but, this is the best Yacht Master video I've seen. I'm going to watch it again. I own the two tone with the chocolate dial and I love it. That said, I'd love the Rolesium with the blue dial. The 116621, just more refined than the Submariner.
I had a Hulk Sub. I didn’t like how it wore and I got some serious wrist fatigue wearing it. I sold it and got a Yachtmaster 37mm with a rhodium dial. I never looked back. More luxurious. Slimmer. Vintage size. Bi-directional. It’s the perfect balance of dressy yet sporty. 100m of water resistance is plenty for 99% of people. It’s pretty much my daily wear. I have gotten so many compliments on it. When lay people see it, they’re like, “is that a Sub?” They look closer. “Oh wow what is that?” The platinum touches sets it apart. One lady liked it so much that she wants to buy her husband one for their 10 year anniversary. I almost bought a DateJust but it wasn’t sporty enough. The YM 3mm fit the bill.
Very nice presentation. Got my YM 116622 pt dial exactly 6 years ago to the day. This is one of the most elegant and dressy professional Rolex models, to me at least. I really love this classier take on the more utilitarian looking Sub. Very discreet and understated with the pt dial. The blue dial is stunning and offers a slightly more showy look. Supremely comfortable on the wrist, compared to my Sub41 and SD43.
Dress watch was all I was about, Then came the diver. Started watching your channel and saw the Seagull 63, Just a lovely simple design. Know hooked on that style , Seiko Alpinist on it's way.👌
With my budget, i guess i'll have the raft-master...

Often overlooked in favor of the more popular SS models, this one is now starting to gain more popularity, and deservedly so. A beautiful piece.

Mercedes hands is kind of the trademark of Rolex though. I dont mind it.
Oh, I thought I was the only guy on earth not liking the Mercedes hands ! At least we are 2 😅
Also not a Mercedes hands fan - I prefer the stick hands of the Datejust or OP!
I agree - the merc hand looks a bit...comical?

19:39 it's no coincidence that you began the "negatives" section of this review with the 76ers practice facility in the background!! 😂
Great video and review as always TGV!
I am on the waiting list for a rhodium so maybe in a few years I can have both…
I have the rhodium, but would love both
This watch is so well proportioned and sleek/sporty, I think if they offered it in multiple new additional dial colors and textures, the model's popularity would skyrocket.
Thank you for watching Jeffrey
Best regards,

Regards,
Koen
Thank you Koen, that always means a great deal coming from you. Love the baby blue they used on the version you speak of, so cool
I wish I could assign special privileges to the most consistent and meaningful Gentry commentators.
Hopefully YT will make it possible one day. A discount code for your next watch or something, that would be amazing!
Best regards,
TGV
Probably the most underrated Rolex, although it seems to be getting a lot of attention lately
Quiet beauty sure the next big thing a must get it Now
I remember watching your first review of the116622 Yacht Master with the blue dial two years ago when I was a couple of weeks from taking delivery of my watch.
Really like how u bring out the negatives of even the best watches without sounding offensive.. It almost sounds as positives.. Happy thanksgiving
I am looking at the Everose and steel version with chocolate dial. How are you enjoying the watch?
My favorite color is blue!! What a beauty is this watch???!!! 😍😍😍
You always make high quality videos!!! 👏👏
I’ve got the rhodium 40mm and love it. Getting a lot of love on UA-cam too recently
Fantastic choice, you lucky thing! I adore that one too. I had no idea it was so popular, then again, I mostly watch the Italian watch channels. Enjoy it a little extra for me please!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Ah fuck. There goes my chance of getting one anytime soon
@@Skfkf1393a saw one in the AD a few weeks ago but a few days later it was MIA
@@WatchUnwind I contacted the AD around September last year and they put me in touch with a different AD in November who'd been able to get one. One year in I still love it
Rhodium over the blue for me too. The blue accents against the Rhodium dial are stunning. If was going to get one Rolex it would be 40mm YM Rhodium hands down. It does it all.
Hi TGV
Yes, stunning timepiece. Apart from a GMT Master this would be the Rolex I would like to own most.
Especially like the bezel layout with the raised numerals. And that blue dail is fantastic. No problem with the red colors, in fact it looks great.
It’s more elegant than, say, a Submariner. Here you can do a James Bond with shirt & tie, and it wouldn’t even be contradictive😊
Keep up the good work👍
A Rolex that the common man can buy. Another great video TGV, keep them coming you make my day.
I own the blue 116622 and I agree.....the PERFECT timepiece!
You jammy classy thing!!!!!
Thank you for sharing that, hopefully one day I might join you in the yachty owners club.
Best regards,
TGV
Did you even considered the fact you could own a Vacheron overseas for that same price?
Twice as classy, makes you look as a refined watch enthusiast instead of a mainstream douche... my two cents
@@marvinberwart how so? VC overseas is double the price of a SS YM
The black and rose gold on oysterflex is my favourite, great video as usual with so much information 🤙🏻
That dial is stunning
I ve got a rodium one! My first Rolex and its still the best i own! I ve got gmt batman and seadweller too but yacht is in another league in terms of coolness and eyes satisfatcion.
In 2021-2022 will be the new hot reference... keep it now that is affordable
Thanks, TGV I picked up my Rolesium 126622 on Monday this week absolutely love it, what a beautiful watch.
Can't stop looking at it.
well done! was there a waiting list for it?
Best regards,
TGV
After owning my Marathon Navigator (on your recommendation) The worst thing about a bi-directional bezel:
It's too easy to fidget with... 😂
I just bought a GSAR today, can't wait to beat it up on the job!
Hello TGV,
I hope you are well.
What rolex book are you using in the video?
I have an Invicta Popeye that looks sort of like the Yatch Master. The Invicta came with a black second hand against a black faced dial but I got the second hand changed to a red one which suited the red on colliers. What I find cheesy fun is that Popeye's arms are the main dials on the watch.
A guy at my University was wearing this exact watch, and I remember the cheer classiness of the piece so well... probably the first time I've seen a Rolex in person as well... Very entertaining and impecably executed review as always, TGV!
The YM is the Rolex for every occasion!
Nice video TGV!
What is name of the music in the intro?
Piano
As much as I like seeing this Yacht-Master, I'm just so taken by that Superman. Just beautiful, and that strap plays to all its best bits.
I also don't like the Mercedes hands but the watch is extremely nice. I also agree that the band should be swapped out for 1 with brushed links not polished. Great review as always.
Received my Rhodium model 2 weeks ago. My first Rolex!
Great choice
I've been getting ads for Vincero watches and was wanting your opinion on them since UA-cam wants me to buy one. And maybe have a look at a fossil automatic, used to love fossil when I was young, but not sure they are worth the money since I can get an orient or seiko for similar prices.
How the bezel holds up against scratches ? Maybe on the same level as ceramic ?
I'm coming to the party late but, this is the best Yacht Master video I've seen. I'm going to watch it again. I own the two tone with the chocolate dial and I love it. That said, I'd love the Rolesium with the blue dial. The 116621, just more refined than the Submariner.
I absolutely love the bezel on the yacht master!
Looks great on skx mods too 👌
Breitling colt.

@@steve69chevy very similar bezel
Agree on the Yachtmaster , I like the midsize edition !
The rhodium dial of this is superb! A far more complete watch, with just a splash of colour.
How this watch plays with lights is insane. Love it.
Dress watch was all I was about, Then came the diver.
Started watching your channel and saw the Seagull 63, Just a lovely simple design. Know hooked on that style , Seiko Alpinist on it's way.👌
