  • I'm finally doing a review of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade!
    Looking for a family SUV? This just might be the Mac Daddy. It's got so many cool features for parents and kids AND it has a (relatively) reasonable price tag.
    2020 Hyundai Palisade (as seen here) MSRP: $43,155
    Step inside for a tour of the inside and out and go for a quick drive. I also tell you what I think about this compared to its sister vehicle, the Kia Telluride (here's my video review of that vehicle: • 2020 Kia Telluride SX ... ).

    The air con being on is not a defect,it's actually a feature introduced by Hyundai where the air con comes on automatically when you switch on the engine. Best part is that you can switch of the feature via an option on your infotainment

    In the market now for a Palisade. Inching closer to pulling the trigger. Heard via youtube, forums, etc..---about excessive wind noise at highway speed, whistling, etc. Wonder out there if any of you Palisade owner are experiencing this? Hope 'the bugs' worked out during '20 year, and new '21's (zero wind noise)? Thank you. Great 'real world' review.

    I leased one last night. The shifter is easy to get used to for the driver. Drives great. My only pet peeve: The SEL does not come standard with Sirius XM which I HATE. Sirius is sending me a free radio with home kit to keep my subscription. I got a renewal for a year for $60 a few months ago so I didn't want to lose that. The only way I could continue streaming and keep my pre-paid plan was to get the free radio with a home kit. Hyundai, you need to fix this pronto. I had a Ford Fusion (for pete's sake) before this and had it.

    I luv the new Hyundai Htrac AWD in my Santa Fe which it’s perfect throughout rainy wet roads.
    Since I’ve owed this Santa Fe awd I’ve never had any wheel spin when accelerating from a dead stop in rain.
    I punch the gas and it just goes no wheel spinning or loosing control.
    I run through rain and that awd handles perfect around curves or just skipping lanes like race car driver. 😁
    Believe me that Htrac AWD handles good 👍🏽

    Purchased one a few weeks ago and love it. At first I wasn't sure about the buttons for shifting but quickly got over it and enjoy this way more. Cleaner look and more room. Regarding the emergency brake placement I think it might be more of a safety thing having it away from the shift buttons. Pressing it releases the brake so it would be easy to accidentally press that. My guess anyways.

    Just to share, the Parking brake will not disengage even if you put in reverse without putting the seat belt on/buckling up first. Thank you for the presentation, I think I will get Palisade instead of the Telluride aside from the features, the availability is a big factor for me. Waiting time for Telluride is almost 6 months in our area and requires a $1,000 reservation fee.

    FYI - that odd thing you mentioned with the headlight horizon cutoff is a normal thing found on any headlight, particularly projector headlights. It’s a stair step sort of arc found on each headlight that come together to show a stepped horizon line which helps put more light down the Right side of the road than the left, in the US. This keeps the drivers side headlight aimed slightly lower for oncoming traffic vs the passenger headlight which is slightly higher after the stepped cutoff you noticed in the headlight. Often times you can fine tune the headlight aiming so that it is a little cleaner and more crisp but that’s the whole deal there btw.

    • @Allthingsfadra
      @Allthingsfadra  4 роки тому

      My husband mentioned the same thing. It’s normal. But I drive a lot of cars and the delineation has never been that sharp for me. But sometimes when you drive a great vehicle, you have to nitpick a little ;)

    • @singletrackftw
      @singletrackftw 4 роки тому

    Could that noise that was coming from the air con, actually come from the vented seats? You turned the seats on, and left them on before moving to the air con.
    I know my i30 makes a small noise, but hardly noticeable unless all is quiet and I’m trying to listen for it.

    One question here, can the 2nd row be optioned with a bench seat instead of 2 captain chairs? What if someone wants the higher trims but also want the bench seats 2nd row at the same time?? Any solution for that?
    I think Subaru Ascent is currently the only 3 row midsize SUV offering bench seat even in its top trim, and that too a no price. 🙄

    Great Review. I prefer the Palisade over the Telluride. I am not driving the car from Outside so I tend to prefer an Okay Exterior with an excellent interior. You were one level below the top tier, and there you will find even more difference between them. The Instrument cluster is amazing on the Top Trim. As it relates to the storage area, it is there for additional storage and Easily accessible from the passenger side. A little bit weird from the driver side , but for security purposes I live it. Additionally, you can send a cord through the centre console to access the additional storage area.

    • @carlmathews5778
      @carlmathews5778 4 роки тому +1

      The loud noise maybe a defect, because I don't hear it at all. You will hear a little wind noise from the front while driving. Otherwise it is excellent. The Telluride was okay for me and felt slightly stiffer from a suspension perspective.

    Overall, great review. While I agree that the climate control is loud when turned all the way up...and especially if the vents arent open all the way...the noise you were hearing was not the climate control but from the heated seats. It is even louder when the ventilated seat option is turned all the way up. You are right, the under the console storage is awkward to access from the driver standpoint...but an ideal storage area for the front seat passenger. Finally just a little confused on your comment about not liking the 'boxy side profile' yet you preferred the overall look of the Telluride...which is even boxier looking.

    • @Allthingsfadra
      @Allthingsfadra  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Conor - thanks for your input! I've definitely noticed loud fan noise with ventilated seats but I don't think the sound was from the heated seats (although I can't test that theory now!). And let me clarify about the Palisade. I actually love boxy designs in general. I just prefer the aesthetic look of the Telluride, especially from the side. It has a sportier, more defined look. Less chrome and less of a Chevy look if that makes sense.

    Obviously the Palisade and Telluride share an overwhelming set of features and components. To a large extent the differences stem from the fact that the Telluride is built in the US and designed virtually exclusively for the North American market. (It's not even sold in Korea or the rest of Asia and almost all of Europe.) The Palisade, on the other hand, is built in Korea and aimed principally at international markets in Asia and Europe. That difference means the vehicles compete with radically different set s of rivals.
    The Telluride is aimed directly at stealing sales from rivals like the Explorer, the Honda Pilot, the VW Atlas, and the Toyota Highlander, some of which are not even available in Europe and Asia and those that are don't sell well, to say the least. The Palisade, on the other hand, is meant to be a budget luxury alternative meant to take sales from European and (to a lesser extent) Asian luxury vehicles, signs of status in those markets, especially in nations where still growing middle class consumer segments offer huge sales opportunities. We Americans love SUV's with a "rugged" image. Though we may never take a 3 row SUV farther off the pavement than an occasional dirt road, we like to think of ourselves as the descendants of pioneers on the Oregon Trail or mountain men of times of yore. Internationally "luxury" trumps "rugged" by a country mile. And that's the difference in the appeal of the Palisade and the Telluride.
    Like Fadra, I'm inclined to prefer the Telluride. In some cases it's purely a matter of taste. Hyundai's design language typically strikes me as overly "fussy" in terms of overall looks. Almost as if a design is completed and then at a last stage additional creases and bulges are added. (YMMV). In terms of functionality, though, there are several issues that aren't simply a matter of taste.
    () Hyundai has apparently adopted placing headlights just above the front bumper on several of their vehicles including the Palisade. (Ironically it's a design pioneered by the Pontiac Aztec. Not exactly an example of a beautiful design.) Here in the Pacific Northwest the spring thaw in the mountains brings many tons of rocks and gravel onto our highways. The rocks become projectiles thrown by large trucks at trailing vehicles and result in many a new windshield and "dinged" hoods and grills every year. Putting the headlights low on the front fascia only increases that vulnerability, even from vehicles much smaller than an 18 wheeler.
    () It may seem odd that the Palisade with its more "luxurious" vibe includes paddle shifters while the Telluride with its more "rugged" image does not. But there's a reason. The Palisade's pushbutton gear selector doesn't allow a driver to select a specific gear. The Telluride's conventional lever does. Thus, the only way to put the Palisade into a specific gear is via the paddle shifter, an otherwise mostly useless feature.
    () In line with its "luxury" trappings the Palisade includes motorized 3rd row seat controls while the Telluride has a simple strap setup to raise and lower the rear seats. Apart from the fact that the Palisade's motorized approach is perhaps the slowest on the planet while the Telluride can be raised and lowered in less than 10 seconds, the Palisade loses precious cargo capacity behind the third row. (18 cubic ft vs 21 cf). It may not seem to be a major sacrifice but in a midsize three row SUV loaded with passengers, every bit of cargo space for luggage and gear is important. The Telluride's space is exceeded only by the bus-like Chevy Traverse (23 cf) while the Palisade rear cargo space is close to mid-pack in the category.
    All in all the Palisade is a very appealing vehicle. The Hyundai and the KIA Telluride set a standard that their rivals struggle to match. As I said, I find the Telluride more appealing but others will make another choice that better fits their taste and priorities.

      @@JT-sl3ui The Hyundai/KIA conglomerate has completely separate design teams drawing on a common parts bin.
