We just replace our 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with the Hyundai Palisade. We drove the Pilot, Traverse, Atlas, Volvo, Highlander, CX-9, Ascent and even the Telluride. The Palisade felt on par with the Volvo for luxury, but at $20K less and way more room - it was an easy decision. The unibody really makes the Palisade a mid-sized exterior with a full sized interior. Hyundai's technology, warranty, amenities blew away all of the other competitors. The Kia we drove had some interior fit/finish issues that were pretty obvious. I think there's some Q/C inherent with the Palisade being built alongside Genesis G90's in Ulsan, Korea.
I'll also add that the fuel economy has surprised us. We have the FWD version and 55/60 hwy speeds we've seen 30/31mpg in steady cruising and 29mpg 75/80. Pretty amazing for a vehicle this size. Actually made me go look up what the heck Atkinson cycle was. It's magic!
Lastly, because many reviews are missing these - when you approach the back of the locked vehicle with the keys in your pocket, if you wait by the rear of the vehicle it will beep (not honk) and then open up the rear gate. No foot waving or button pushing......just stand for 2 seconds. Why else would you be there unless your hands were full and you wanted in? GENIUS! When you unlocked the vehicle there are puddle light that illuminate from under the side view mirrors and the door handles are backlit. Gotta admit, that looks pretty cool. As does the 64 colors to choose from for interior ambient lighting. Of course my wife picked purple.....why wouldn't you?!

Got our Palisade a few weeks ago. LOVE it! The lane keep system is sooo good. On the Telluride vs Pallisade question, it was pretty much a tie, but the key benefits of the Pallisade were the power folding seats (we use that all the time), having more space in and under the console area, and the more luxurious looks since it is my wife’s daily driver in the city. I would prefer the option to remove the badging inside the car. I know what I bought I don't need to see it every time I get inside the car. Same with the external badging. I already gave who ever I bought the car from my money why should I be a rolling billboard. I am weird like that. I don't like the look of branding on everything I buy. This would be the case if I bought a Ferrari or a Ford, Range rover or a Hyundai.

  • @ZCT808
    @ZCT808 5 років тому +2

For me, I didn't like the grille on the top trim. Sure you gain a power third row, but you LOSE power folding mirrors which the Kia has. I also didn't like any of the wheels on the Hyundai, especially the Mercury/Buick wheels on the top trim. That drive mode selector has a cheap plastic feel to it, and is actually quite sharp around the edges. The top trim also has a weird 90's pimp my ride piping around the seat edges. Looks stupid; and I'm sure even more so as it discolors over time. I do like that they had less piano black than the Kia, but they also kind of overdid the fake aluminum.
As a practical consideration, my wife likes to have a bottle of hand sanitizer in the car, you know; kids. So you would probably have to keep that large front storage bin open all the time, which just looks like a large hole with flimsy cup holders. And of course you have the drink spill or hand sanitizer spilling right onto your $1200 iPhone.
Small thing, but the Hyundai cheaped out on the pedals, which look nicer on the Kia. Although lower trims of the Kia just got dinged big time by IIHS for having sucky headlights, not an issue on the Hyundai. Although even the best headlights in both models are only okay, not great. Which is an inexcusable oversight in such a good vehicle.
While I like the concept of a non-standard shifter, it has to be said, I was trying to maneuver a Palisade the other day and while I'm sure you'd get used to it, there's a lot more fumbling and looking with eyes than just grabbing a shifter and shifting. It's not intuitive, there is a learning curve, and I'm not sure the gains are big enough to want it.
In the review you mentioned the color choices too. Other than black and white, I think there are some very disappointing unimaginative blah kind of hues. Like a muted dark blue, an insipid green, a muted wine kind of color. Nothing even remotely interesting.
In truth as my wife and I wavered between these models we were considering the Hyundai in spite of the looks not because of them, and weighing the closer more convenient location of the Hyundai dealership. Ultimately, I feel the Hyundai ends up trying too hard to fake luxury, but is exposed by things like a lack of power fold mirrors and that cheap nasty drive mode selector. I also liked that you could delete the unneeded tow package off the Kia and save about $800.
Finally, my Kia salesman was on top of things. My Hyundai salesman adopted the persona of a rude BMW salesman, acting like even allowing me to test drive a Hyundai was not only beneath him, but I was not worthy of the car. In fact he was always 'too busy' even when I set an appointment with him, and ended up having a junior freshly minted car salesman go with me on the test drives. Outside of a moron I met at a Land Rover dealership one time, he may have been the most condescending idiot I've ever met at a car dealership, which is saying a lot.
So yeah, I ordered a Telluride SX Prestige without the tow package. Expecting it in November thanks to demand right now. I'm pretty convinced it will be a good family car.

I prefer the exterior of the telluride, but the interior of the palisade. If the telluride would have remote start from the key fob, I'd go that route. Can't believe a 2020 vehicle would skimp on remote start. Very disappointing.

@@carlmathews5778 I dunno, for me, folding mirrors are really nice to have. Seat piping is weird. As for the cup holders, get back to me in three years. We'll see.
Ultimately I came at both vehicles with no preference whatsoever. If anything I wanted to want the Hyundai more because the dealership is super close, and when my wife used to have a Santa Fe, the service center rocked when I had to take it in for service.
I made my choice and put down my deposit. And you can do the same.

Just bought the Palisade SEL earlier this month. I actually like the 20" wheel option on the lower trim, much better than the limited. My wife initially wanted the Tell U Ride, but after realizing our local dealers were adding market adjustments to the MSRP price, we went and looked at the Palisade. Was happy to see that Hyundai dealers, were actually willing to deal. I wanted the graphite, but she wanted white, so that's what we went with. I initially thought that dark colors looked better as well, until we saw the white, it is a completely striking pearl "hyper white", and really makes this suv pop. Loving it so far, and even like the style better than the Tell U Ride, especially inside.

Chrysler makes cars on a budget and they don't care about quality. They want to pump out cheap cars and get money. In my opinion the Palisade looks better then the Telluride - because of the chrome bar on the side it looks a little bit like a pickup. It’s a shame that both cars aren’t available in Germany.
I am also wondering why these cars are so cheap in the USA/Canada. Here in Germany the top trim of the Santa Fe costs 53.500€ (incl. taxes) which is 59.500USD/78.500CAD. And you get the Palisade for 44k$ (excl. taxes?)
Geatest thing to see would be a Palisade with an improved fuel cell system of the nexo or a hybridsystem.
