Ad Murderfang, and mind you, I am not the space wolf enthusiast. Yes, they've found him in a blasted wasteland. But... he's not a regular dreadnought. He's a dreadnought piloted by a fucking lunatic that no longer recognizes friend from foe, and is literally roused in isolation, so he doesn't fuck his own battle brothers up; he's released towards the enemy like an mad dog, because he viciously attacks *everything* that moves. He's literally the "what if we took the Black Rage concept, put it into a space wolf, and THEN drop it into a dreadnought for lolz"... I believe his name isn't even, like, his original name, it's a pseudonym given by those who have captured him, because of how much of a ravaging, insane bastard he is.
The reason why Murderfang's head is sticking out is that he transformed into a Wulfen while in the Dreadnought, so his head is sticking out of the sarcophagus.
He's a great dreadnaught, every time they unleash him he's followed by a storm fang (The gunship version) with all its weapons trained on murderfang because he's legit batcrap crazy just in case he turns on his allies. Funnily enough though in the curse of the wulfen book he joins a pack of wulven and he's basically calm and not so crazy
The Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf is actually modelled around Harald Deathwolf who has an item in his datasheet called Mantle of the Troll King that was a leader of some Ice Trolls etc etc. It does follow the lore and frankly I like very much for that reason
14:46 I prefer to think the space wolves cavalier attitude towards war meant all their fancy dreads got smashed beyond repair so they stick to smaller more easily repaired dreads. Kinda like the difference between fixing a bicycle vs a motor bike
I do love the character that still exists in the Firstborn wolf models, and the amount of spare bits the kits can offer helps to fill the gap on the newer Primaris models. Kinda hope they pull slightly more towards options of Viking flavour in the future rather than just Wolf. Absolutely adore the Dread kit, Gunship and the Terminators, and the options given the Blood claw/Grey hunter/Wolf Guard combined box are nice, even if it sometimes irks me that they are all the exact same bits across three units (and every now and then I find issues with the mould/sprue quality vs newer kits due to its age). Can't really complain on this one given how much worse many Xenos players have it, but my main gripe is the number of nice character models that are stuck in bloody finecast kits, which I've never had any luck with. Had better luck with my hated tin Termi-Njal, and that even baffled the store guy helping younger me build him.

The storm caller's gifted a cyber raven this is why he has it, the old power armour storm caller is a bit old to say the least. Love it when you describe the fur being ruff given its spacewolves lol. Ruff ruff lol The spacewolves older HQ have almost a price from the 90s. The terminator rune priest is one of the cheapest (for money) HQs you will find.
GW: Too many Wolves in your Space Wolves with Grimnar and the Thunder Wolves you say? "Buffs Grimnar, Thunder Wolves and all Lords with Thunder Wolves" ... Damnit GW, I've not even finished my first box from 7th yet...
I've always imagined that 40K is the result of the traumatic events that happened during 30K which was more technological and steampunk in style. Where the galaxy has entered its later stages of its life cycle and technology meets magic. 40K being a more fantasy than sci-fi in nature seems to support that. The concept is that everything is dialed to the extreme and technology and magic have become intertwined. The warp has overtaken things and alien races have mutated and evolved beyond recognition. This is what makes weird concepts like vampire space marines with the Blood Angels and viking werewolves with the Space Wolves plausible. Also if you compare these to the 30K army versions you can clearly see this evolution taking place. So maybe this is partially the reason why models like Logan Grimnar are so over the top?
I'm going to humbly request a review of the Ultramarines, since its only like 10 models to begin with. And I really wanna hear your thoughts on the Chapter-Command Kit

I REALLY dig the cloak for the generic Wolf Lord, I just never noticed it before. It looks like it could be the hide of some alien beast, or any of the monsters the walk around Fenris. Also, it ISN'T more wolf fur.
This army has something I wish there was a lot more of in 40k: Actual use of animals. In a universe full of crazy aliens and monsters, there are surprisingly few non-Tyranid ones on the tabletop. (Yes I know there’s no wolves on Fenris.)
I legit think the old terminator runepriest deserves an update. Not make an over the top sculpt, keep all the aspects of the old one. The helmet and the hood above it with cables (which looks like cerebro helmet from the xmen movies). Just make it more adapted to the new terminator armor style
What I don't care about the venerable dreadnought is it seems it'd make a lot more sense to just bolt the shield to his arm. Free that hand up for a bolter or flamer or just smashing.
I know this vid is old, but you’ve helped me understand something, Val. After looking at the old wulfen, you’re right. I really like the look of the old kit where it was space marines who had become werewolves, and seeing the old ones makes the new wulfen look like werewolves who had become space marines. I’m gonna try to kitbash something like the old kit with a grey hunters kit plus the arms and frost claws of the new wulfen. Gonna look awesome.
The parody of itself nature of 40k is part of what drew me in original. Space Wolves are about the only range left with that charm and isn't so self serious. Just messy dumb fun with wolves on wolves on wolves EDIT: Apparently Santa's coming to beat some ass now too.

I absolutly love Ulrik and Karjac! As a matter of fact since a lot of people think the space wolves are to much wolf and to less viking i decided to make make space wolves even MORE wolf by using a few parts to give them more pelts and stuff. its very funny to see other players reactions on this
I'm 3d printing more reserved Viking shields in lieu of the flashy gold crested ones, I'm also doing a much more muted paintjob to tone the "in your face" factor down

The Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf model is actually supposed to be the model for Harald Deathwolf. The cloak is the Mantle of the Troll King, which is why it's scaly as opposed to fur. Still looks wierd, though, you're right.
I used Primaris bodies to convert my wulfen into something a bit more like the original Wulfen and the look is vastly improved while still maintaining the scale of the Wulfen. I do wish GW would give me a bit more space viking in my space vikings with a wolf theme than going full tilt with the wolf stuff... even when the Black Library does it's best to try and recover the chapter from the rest of GW's silliness.
10:04 that is actually Wolf Lord Harald Deathwolf (or it was should I say? GW seems to have dropped naming that model by proper name). The pelt he has is taken from biggest Ice Troll while he was still a mere mortal - read more lore. Ages ago pelt gave immunity to fire magic and any fire based weapons (so no flamer/melta/soulblaze could touch him). 07:56 so you haven't notice that this flyer is wolves head when looked from the front eh? 11:34 his wolf is so big because it is the biggest known Thunderwolf known and they had to show how monstrous Fangir is. 15:40 Murderfang is Wulfen Dreadnought (so even a half dead space marine can succumb to Curse of th Wulfen), when Space Wolves initially found him he was raging so hard that they froze him over with Frost Destructor to transport him, they couldn't calm him down so they drop him behind enemy lines than come to pick him up by freezing him over again although since siege of Fenris system (War zone Fenris) and new Wulfen reappearance he started to listen to basic commands - seriously read some lore before doing video with chapter rich in lore. 19:55 according to lore: Blood Claws: typical bersers with spiky hairs and shaved faces, the hair is also having many normal colour scheme found on Fenris so red/blond/brown etc. After serving for a while and cooling their heads and starting to think before charing into melee with laughter they advance to Grey Hunters - their canines grew longer, hair started to grey and they are allowed to grow beard - yes it is only allowed once you advance to Grey Hunters which is why Ragnar Blackmane will never grow one because he was taken into Wolf Guard directly from Blood Claws. 31:00 That is not Thunder Hammer that Iron Priest is holding it is Tempest hammer which is better than standard TH - name is even written in the model description =P Sorry if it sounds like I am picking on you, it might have sounded like that because I am Vlka Fenryka fanatic.
Hello Kirioth! Just a small comment. Canis Wolfborn was the first thunderwolf sculpted, back in 5th ed, when rules for Thunderwolf Cavalry, but no thunderwolf models existed.
Idk if u have read some of the warzone fenris books,but the unnamed wolf lord on thunderwolf is a perfect representation of one of the character in it, harald deathwolf,who has the troll mantle (thus the scales) and a relic frost axe called glacius, which explain the rugged look of the axe as u pointed it out
definitely gaudy but it should be noted that the Vikings were very much all about the bling. Particularly fine metal and braid work. Definitely "Santas gonna kick your ass" thing which is fun. Like a Christmas tree :D
What would you change on logan grimnar? Seems like people dont like the wolf iconography, but want more viking stuff. But thats what viking iconography was like when it was present. If not it would just be really plain or just be exclusively covered in runic symbols. I dont know what people are looking for in their wolf based space vikings.
As he said in the video, he's looking for less bashing you over the head wolf theme. Looking at the rest of the Space Wolf bling over the years, you've go carvings (runes and not), cool knives, horns (the music kind), the gem motif, trophy necklaces, and things like wolf tail and pelts that don't have wolf heads on them. I think that's what he's trying to get at; you could play a drinking game with all of the wolf heads. K. We get it. Space Wolves are wolf themed. Does it have to be so on the nose though? There's so much more you can do than "needs more wolf heads." It's like having an Ultrasmurf covered head to toe in U's. There's a point where it is funny still, and there's a point where it's just ridiculous when the could instead of laurels, that strap tabard thing, and other details besides playing Find the U.

I think since this cast here has been changes to them but I think it would sell more if they grouped Calvary with wolf ranges and elites into one group company faction of the wolves, dedicated to Fluff puppies in general, whilst heavy metals in the other would do justice. About fellhand, he needs to be upgraded, but Login, I still like his fancy bobsled... Just sayin. Cheers
I like the Logan model but the whole sled looks weird, particularly the wolf harnesses/cables. And as you mentioned they need to tone down the wolves...
So Kirioth, with the new updates, the Santa Sled is actually pretty insanely good. Its got advance and charge now, and Logan finally has on par re-rolls with other chapter masters. About the Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf, its cause its the same model used as one of the named chars in the book. Hes got the Trollbane Cloak so I think that is why the cloak is weird.
I like the wolf obsessed Space Wolves. I imagine Bjorn wanting to facepalm when he gets woken up. I'm reembracing (?) the derpyness of it all now. I'm actually considering Centurion Devs.
I like the boat. But I don't own it. Because I do not fancy Logan much and have the old model already. Besides my GF once gifted me Njal Stormbringer in Terminator armour build and painted as Santa on a Reindeer-Sled... Lord Krom is one of my favourites even though I like Ajax and Ragnar as well.
I called it the HOT TUB Of DEATH I've played 40k since '97 and this model was over the top. I actually purchased the kit but later sold it still new in the box because even i felt it was over thr top. Looking at it from the front I thought it was a Hot Tub.
Massive space wolves fan.... less is more with these guys when it comes to wolfyness. Strip back a lot of the wolf totems and a darker paint scheme make them look like real norse warriors.
Missing the Haldor Icepelt model from the Tooth and Claw starter box as a solo release too. It is in the Start Collecting Primaris Space Wolves box (now simply Primaris Battle Leader), but come on GW, solo please! At least Space Wolves were the less popular half of the Prophecy of the Wolf box, Ragnar was plentiful, and cheap to pick up off of eBay on release.
Idk why but the first time I saw the wulfen I thought the leader looked too much like the wolverine from the origins movie which was not a good comparison
Great video... been a space wolf player since 2nd and totally agree with u on "all" points.. have been debating adding new Wulfen weapons to my old Wulfen, as like u i prefer them to the imo over the top new ones. Also have an old rune priest in T armour... gonna try merge with new kit and try to retain character of old one... Many thanks really enjoyed vid 👍
I ordered some frost claws and upgraded my old wulfen models, they look good and with the nerf to wulfen storm shields these ones are a little cheaper and probably more playable. I merged my old metal wolf guard with a box of the plastic terminators, raised the metal ones with some extra basing aids and it's hard to pick em apart now. My terminator rune priest still looks a little small, maybe I will rebase him.
Not being pedantic or antsy, but both the Stormwolf and Stormfang Gunships are transports its just that at 6 models the Stormfang is abit pointless, for ground units the Razorback works a bit better; and as you can fit only 3 Terminators or Wulfen in a Stormfang it's abit underwhelming, but you take a Stormfang for the Helfrost Destructor. Now as for Murderfang. He's essentially a loyayalist Helbrute. Just as the wulfen's mutations having bean accelerated and increased by their exposure to theWarp the same is true for Murderfang, he went into the worp a normal 13th company Dreadnought and came out Murderfang. His body has grown beyond the sarcophagus and is physically fused to it's surounding machinery and weapons. Had he remained in the Warp longer you would see more skin growing into and over the mechanical parts. Something people forget is the Canis Helix does not create Wulfen nore did it alone create Murderfang. When the Space Wolves speak of Wolfen in antiquity they speek of those Space Wolves who have given themselves over entirely to the Canis Helix. They get a bit more hair, their fangs and nails are longer than normal and they are more savage and bestial in maner. A good example would be the Deathsworn and Grey Slayers from forge world they are Wulfen units in that they have embraced the Wulfen curse and use it to make them truly savage melee combatants, they are not however full blown werewolves. The only reason the big daddy wulfen and Murderfang are so far gone in their mutations is because of their long exposure to the Warp. They are in effect chaos mutants who happen to fight for the Imperium of man and despise chaos. There will be no more of these "super" Wulfen once the current number have passed unless the Space Wolves send more troops into the Warp to be mutated, it's why with their higher tolerance to warp energies and their massive aversion to mutants and deviant life forms it is unlikely we will ever see Primaris Wulfen. Something like Primaris Greyslayers cerainly,but 14 foot tall Pramaris with the legs and tails of wolves no.
New Njal (I called him Nigel for ages, because I couldn't quite do the pronouncation as a boy) is definitely the favourite! I still have the original Njal somewhere. Despite his disco pose, he was the character that got me into Space Marines. And Ragnar Blackmane, who was blonde/ginger in the original paint job.

I'm honestly so miffed that Grimnar is the main front guy for Space Wolves in terms of models. That sled thing fucking bothers me SOOOO much. I actually like the amount of decoration, and almost all of the styles in the range appeal to me. But it just baffles me on so many levels that they thought a *rocket propelled sled* is compatible in any way with the viking aesthetic of *dashing wolves*. It looks so, so wrong.

Don't really know how I ever felt about the new Wolfen. I lean more towards not liking them, but also cna appreciate them for what they are.

The Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf model is actually supposed to be the model for Harald Deathwolf. The cloak is the Mantle of the Troll King, which is why it's scaly as opposed to fur. Still looks wierd, though, you're right.
Looks more like something from the Salamanders instead of the space wolves.

I used Primaris bodies to convert my wulfen into something a bit more like the original Wulfen and the look is vastly improved while still maintaining the scale of the Wulfen. I do wish GW would give me a bit more space viking in my space vikings with a wolf theme than going full tilt with the wolf stuff... even when the Black Library does it's best to try and recover the chapter from the rest of GW's silliness.
10:04 that is actually Wolf Lord Harald Deathwolf (or it was should I say? GW seems to have dropped naming that model by proper name). The pelt he has is taken from biggest Ice Troll while he was still a mere mortal - read more lore. Hello Kirioth! Just a small comment. Canis Wolfborn was the first thunderwolf sculpted, back in 5th ed, when rules for Thunderwolf Cavalry, but no thunderwolf models existed.
Idk if u have read some of the warzone fenris books,but the unnamed wolf lord on thunderwolf is a perfect representation of one of the character in it, harald deathwolf,who has the troll mantle (thus the scales) and a relic frost axe called glacius, which explain the rugged look of the axe as u pointed it out
definitely gaudy but it should be noted that the Vikings were very much all about the bling. Particularly fine metal and braid work. Definitely "Santas gonna kick your ass" thing which is fun. Like a Christmas tree :D

Seems like people dont like the wolf iconography, but want more viking stuff. But thats what viking iconography was like when it was present. If not it would just be really plain or just be exclusively covered in runic symbols. I dont know what people are looking for in their wolf based space vikings.
As he said in the video, he's looking for less bashing you over the head wolf theme. Looking at the rest of the Space Wolf bling over the years, you've go carvings (runes and not), cool knives, horns (the music kind), the gem motif, trophy necklaces, and things like wolf tail and pelts that don't have wolf heads on them. I think that's what he's trying to get at; you could play a drinking game with all of the wolf heads. K. We get it. Space Wolves are wolf themed. Does it have to be so on the nose though? There's so much more you can do than "needs more wolf heads." It's like having an Ultrasmurf covered head to toe in U's. There's a point where it is funny still, and there's a point where it's just ridiculous when the could instead of laurels, that strap tabard thing, and other details besides playing Find the U.
The first Logan grimnar model was why I loved space wolves. The sledge is why I hate them now

I think since this cast here has been changes to them but I think it would sell more if they grouped Calvary with wolf ranges and elites into one group company faction of the wolves, dedicated to Fluff puppies in general, whilst heavy metals in the other would do justice. I like the Logan model but the whole sled looks weird, particularly the wolf harnesses/cables. And as you mentioned they need to tone down the wolves...

So Kirioth, with the new updates, the Santa Sled is actually pretty insanely good. Its got advance and charge now, and Logan finally has on par re-rolls with other chapter masters. About the Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf, its cause its the same model used as one of the named chars in the book. Hes got the Trollbane Cloak so I think that is why the cloak is weird.

Massive space wolves fan.... less is more with these guys when it comes to wolfyness. Strip back a lot of the wolf totems and a darker paint scheme make them look like real norse warriors.

At least Space Wolves were the less popular half of the Prophecy of the Wolf box, Ragnar was plentiful, and cheap to pick up off of eBay on release.

Great video... been a space wolf player since 2nd and totally agree with u on "all" points.. have been debating adding new Wulfen weapons to my old Wulfen, as like u i prefer them to the imo over the top new ones. Also have an old rune priest in T armour... gonna try merge with new kit and try to retain character of old one... Many thanks really enjoyed vid 👍
I ordered some frost claws and upgraded my old wulfen models, they look good and with the nerf to wulfen storm shields these ones are a little cheaper and probably more playable.
I merged my old metal wolf guard with a box of the plastic terminators, raised the metal ones with some extra basing aids and it's hard to pick em apart now. My terminator rune priest still looks a little small, maybe I will rebase him.

Not being pedantic or antsy, but both the Stormwolf and Stormfang Gunships are transports its just that at 6 models the Stormfang is abit pointless, for ground units the Razorback works a bit better; and as you can fit only 3 Terminators or Wulfen in a Stormfang it's abit underwhelming, but you take a Stormfang for the Helfrost Destructor.
Now as for Murderfang. He's essentially a loyayalist Helbrute. Just as the wulfen's mutations having bean accelerated and increased by their exposure to theWarp the same is true for Murderfang, he went into the worp a normal 13th company Dreadnought and came out Murderfang. His body has grown beyond the sarcophagus and is physically fused to it's surounding machinery and weapons. Had he remained in the Warp longer you would see more skin growing into and over the mechanical parts. Something people forget is the Canis Helix does not create Wulfen nore did it alone create Murderfang.
When the Space Wolves speak of Wolfen in antiquity they speek of those Space Wolves who have given themselves over entirely to the Canis Helix. They get a bit more hair, their fangs and nails are longer than normal and they are more savage and bestial in maner.
A good example would be the Deathsworn and Grey Slayers from forge world they are Wulfen units in that they have embraced the Wulfen curse and use it to make them truly savage melee combatants, they are not however full blown werewolves.
The only reason the big daddy wulfen and Murderfang are so far gone in their mutations is because of their long exposure to the Warp. They are in effect chaos mutants who happen to fight for the Imperium of man and despise chaos. There will be no more of these "super" Wulfen once the current number have passed unless the Space Wolves send more troops into the Warp to be mutated, it's why with their higher tolerance to warp energies and their massive aversion to mutants and deviant life forms it is unlikely we will ever see Primaris Wulfen. Something like Primaris Greyslayers cerainly,but 14 foot tall Pramaris with the legs and tails of wolves no.

New Njal (I called him Nigel for ages, because I couldn't quite do the pronouncation as a boy) is definitely the favourite! I still have the original Njal somewhere. Despite his disco pose, he was the character that got me into Space Marines. And Ragnar Blackmane, who was blonde/ginger in the original paint job.

I'm honestly so miffed that Grimnar is the main front guy for Space Wolves in terms of models. That sled thing fucking bothers me SOOOO much. I actually like the amount of decoration, and almost all of the styles in the range appeal to me. But it just baffles me on so many levels that they thought a *rocket propelled sled* is compatible in any way with the viking aesthetic of *dashing wolves*. It looks so, so wrong.
