Actually, the Imperial Army is the precursor to the Guard. Solar Auxilia are the ELITE of human troops. All wearing Carapace armoured Void Suits. They are more analogous to Tempestus Scions if anything.

With a little bit of to no kitbashing these could be the most pimped out 40k imperial guard regiment
Honestly, my exact thoughts... it'd be a frickin cool army to have. Its unfortunate how expensive they are even by forgeworld standards
This is the first I've actually seen of these models, and as soon as I saw them I thought 'I could totally kitbash them for my Vostroyans'. They are defo perfect for them

Putting a knife to Solar Auxilia for the purpose other than removing mould and sprue lines is internationaly considered a crime punishable by minimal sentence of five years of hard labour in Ursus Heavy Industries in Poland.

I play Solar, and i can say they are the hardest and most expensive army to build and paint. Its like painting an entire army made out of FW character series models and you do need to paint alot. Right now i have about 4.5k build and painted. Its funny enough also the army most people start but never finish so im always surprised to solar players at event :)

Im probably going to get recasts of solar auxilia models for some of the units in my custom 40k regiment. I want to draw from rogue trader, voidsmen at arms, tempestus scions, and other fancy armor clad boyos to make something similar to vostroyan firstborn but drawing more from that rogue trader aesthethic of fancy gubbins and filligree
I really want an army of these guys. I just finished my first lasrifle section after 3 years. Plan is to buy a unit of guys every 3-5 years

I'm getting a strong, old school diving suit vibe from these, especially the Ogryn's looking like Big Daddies from BioShock.
Love the seal at the wrist on some of them, like they've literally used industrial pipes to make armour, lol
I'd like to see some sort of plastic release for the Auxilia, I cannot justify the expense for forgeworld resin. Not for their tabletop value.

I'm planning to use the lasrifle section as Tempestus Scions for my small Rogue Trader themed Guard army. It actually works out a few quid cheaper for the set of 20 models than buying 4 sets of 5 scions

They are beautiful models. The infantry are simply stunning pieces of model art in their own right. For a cheaper version, I've been looking at kitbashing some Anvil 'Gothic Void' stuff with other things (AoS perhaps).

I don't think the bar in front of the axe handle is an actual blade, but more something like a handguard, like those on infantry sabers of the Napoleonic era.
At least that's what I think they are. I could be wrong though.
If I remember correctly, just like the terminator armour the solare auxilia armor was recreated out of mining and industrial equipment from the dark age of technology.
those solar bois are the only imperial guard that don't look incredibly boring to me, in fact I love them
A friend of mine is looking to use Soalr Auxilia in place of Militarum Tempestus. Per model they're actually a fair bit cheaper albeit lacking in options.
Sees the price tag of these guys. Laughs in over priced $72 dkok. 72 USD for 10 guys. My god and each guy is only like 5 points.

Doing a whole army of those would be crazy expensive, but itd look so nice. Maybe get a squad and use them as storm troopers?

Kiri, go watch Shadiversity's video on 40k chainswords, his theory being they could arguably as effective powered blades, even against most armour. It's a great video. Also, while the blade on the haft of the axe is unwieldy, fighting in close quarters with an axe means using it more as a short quarter staff than swinging it like you're chopping wood, there isn't enough room, and it's slow as hell which leaves you vulnerable. Fighting with it two handed, like Half-swording is a much better idea so I can see the blade being useful in that regard. How useful remains to be seen, as I'd love to see someone test it.
I own the Stormhammer, it truly is an awesome Super Heavy Tank kit and also one of the best Forgeworld models I've made in a long time. The only thing that let's it down is it uses the standard fuel drums instead of the old large ones found on other FW Baneblade chassis
Try Skitarii Vanguard Helmets on Scions Torsos with Space Marine legs for an interesting looking alternative.
Kiri I think you should do a quick stream abt updates to your forces and any wip projects that you have. I love your content and would love to see more of your conversions and kitbashes as I use them as inspiration for my own models. Thanks for everything you do, your videos are the most entertaining part of this lockdown and I'm looking forward to see what come next. Also good luck on the century long space marine range review.
I've been pondering getting a Carnodon for my Chapter, as a Proxy for a Predator.
Lore-wise I wrote them to have, next to the PDF on their home-planet, dedicated Regiments of Human Soldiers, assigned to each Company, that assist during large-scale operations by Holding Conquered ground or supplementing defense-lines, and the Carnodon would be nice to kinda show that in the actual Army.
Gotta get a Sicaran first though.
Also, when I was looking into the Carnodon I discovered that the bit of lore that came with it when its 40k rules were put out said that the Mechanicum started building them again cause they couldn't keep up with Guillimans demand of new tanks with just the designs they had.
If I ever learn how to paint and have a mountain of cash to burn, I'm going for these guys. They are beautiful. So much detail, such grace, and it all had been sculpted by ONE GUY!
Too bad so much of this awesome range got discontinued and must be hunted through eBay.
Only a single character and the rapiers. Everything else is still there that I can see.

The way to field a large army for solar auxiliar is to play tank spam. Have a small amount of infantry because it's gorgeous but some of their tanks is pretty good points for the price (by heresy standards well less so now we have plastic marines and termis)
I was looking for this answer! The models are great but definitely not worth deploying these guys on mass.
I assume the guys with the power axes having blades over the hands severs to A) be a heat sink for the rest of the weapon, B) protect the user's hands (remember their gloves arent as armored as space marines) and C) help with grappling in melee
I just finished 2k Solar Auxilia force and damn, I painted more rivets than 7k of marines.
Models are insane in details, each rifleman has lot of backpack chains, rivets, padding under armour, seals, little widgets dangling from belt.
This supposed to be my painting challenge for next half year, unfortunately kung-flu hit and managed to make them in less than 2 months.
Looking at the models always make you feel good until you realize you are going to have to mortgage your house for the third time
Sadly, there were many models that forgeworld discontinued for Solar Auxillia. Sad.
Medicae orderlies & surgeon character, as well as rapiers were discontinued, but it is not the end just yet.

This range of models scream steam punk, and I love it
By the looks of it that chain on the power pack appears to be connected to a bellows. Presumably, this is the pump for the life support system. It's such a janky way of making it work and I love it.
Love the channel mate! Have you ever thought about doing 3rd party bits reviews (puppets war, kromlech, anvil ind, etc) for kitbashers to be inspired?

Ooh god seeing these after watching your video on steampunk eternals makes me wanna make a steampunk themed cities of Sigmar army.
The lasrifle sections would make great handgunners and the storm sections would be awesome as empire greatswords

I believe the chain on the powerpack is an airpump. You can see a metal rod connecting to bellows under it.
I'm currently building an Astra Militarum army with these guys as the main force, 20 lasrifles being 2 squads isn't that bad price wise, at least it's a premium I feel better about paying
I love the Auxilia and I was considering to use the Valetaris Storm Section for a Plasma Guardsman Kill team.
They are not even the worst deal (4 quids a model).
But duuude... I need to fix my painting before I buy forgeworld

The tactical command a some special weapons are the things I keep coming back to as a pumped out IG kill team. You can afford to spend for a few models and make them a really great project, the only downside is you couldn't get the tanks which also look brilliant!
They are like the Adeptus Custodes of the Imperial Guard.
21:52 That has to be the orkiest imperium vehicle ever.
I simply cant understand why GW has not created a rules set for using these in 40k as a "brought back elite defence" for the homeworld/sector akin to how primaris came for space marines, but as a revitalised guard. They would be such a great force to use both for looking great as models and also lore/fluff would be a great field of things to do for them. All their unique infantry squads too, flamer squad, power axe squad, 20 man infantry squads, etc.
edit: The power axe design imo isnt really impractical, they went up against enemies that loved close combat and would fight in the void on ships either defending or attacking, a power axe for smashing through doors/walls/enemy armour works well, the front bit going down the length allows for use of any part of the weapon, if you are close in, you aint swinging that thing like a lumberjack, you are pushing with it, sawing, blocking, etc. Basically a future version of the short poleaxe.
Adore these kits, just my 10 pence but to me Imperial Guard almost feel out of place because of their 21st century military aesthetic, but 100% appreciate to many that's the appeal. Way more a fan of the weird steam punk/industrial look but I guess they risk looking a bit too Admec...

If you want to play Solar Auxilia without paying as insane a price, you could kitbash Skitarii, Neophytes and possibly Scions

40k aside, I mostly watch this guy for that British Man reviews Toys like a Museum Curator ASMR
I can see a much better way to get similarly themed troops. Use Genestealer Cult's bodies, with Guard Arms, and cut down Vanguard helmets. Mix these three kits up, with bits from each, to make roughly thirty models wtih similar looking gear... Then you have all the elements of these Auxillia, of a fraction of a fraction of the price to field a full army of the FW stuff.
the tank at 22:30 looks totally like an Iron Warriors vehicle. if the that price wasn't so harsh id be all over it

I have the Solar Auxilia Basilisk. It's a bitch. When I initially put it together one of the plastic track sides didn't go on right and didn't want to no matter what. Later I took it apart, cleaned it up, and dry fit it together, and managed to get everything dryfitting perfectly. Then I went to glue it.
It decided it was going to not fit at all, and now I can't put it together. I need to clean up the dried glue that's on one of the sides and has just fucked it up as a result of the model. Never again. It looks cool and I wish I could get it working again, but it's now consigned to my parts bin

Don't know if its cos im an old fart and tonnes of minis were metal when I started but I like resin as a material to work with - keep to some warm water around and it's easy. Forge world resin and quality control has gone to crap though the last few years.
Curse you Kirioth, now there is another expensive army that I need.
Looking into it though, the Solar Auxilia can take termite assault drills. Now picture this, Set up a gunline, use tarantula turrets and whatnot to encourage enemies to go near impassible terrain. Then BLAM, suddenly a whirring cylinder of death rams the backside of a tank or churns up valuable infantry, only for a bunch of axe wielding manics to emerge. You have successfully deep striked your axemen, hopefully damaged a tank and maybe forced models into impassible terrain, killing them in the process.

There's unfortunately so much of this range that went OOP, that they might as well just retire the whole range. 😕
The only kit that went OOP is Surgeon-Primus Aevos Jovan and his medicae orderlies, and I assume it wasn't selling well at all, given that Feel no Pain for T3 infantry is fairly pointless for 30k.
Edit: Turns out the various rapiers with solar auxilia crew was also discontinued. Still, I wouldn't call it doom and gloom just yet.
Why are there are no 40k rules For Solar Auxillia. They be good replacement for cadia. Cadia in the sol system.
The auxila got disbanded on the separation of navy and guard. (Cause they did both)
I think the navy in the sol system still has saturnian hoplites as a purely naval armsmen regiment
These guys are cheaper per model than Intercessors in NZ, actually not that bad a value.

This is the best looking army for troops hands down in existence currently. And its priced too high for me.
Seriously whoever sculpted list line... i want to know who they are and follow their future work.
This is problem #1 with forgeworld. I would spend years acquiring this army, but I have no guarantee from month to month what they won't make go on last chance to buy.

I would say necrons seem like the more affordable option and I hope the silent king stuff refreshes some of the older kits.

kris still Sings I have owned both in the past, I’d just say necrons are faster and easier to get to look good. Auxilia will take you considerably longer to paint, this may be good if that’s what you’re looking for

Well... no? The whole point of Auxilia is the void armour and being an elite regiment, if you don't care about then then you would be buying these models for there looks which are infinitely better than cadians. If you don't care about either then it isn't an issue in the first place?
