    I love the one with the weird smile and no-face helmet. I can also dig Felthius, though the face in general is a bit too Voldemort-y. But smiles, man. Ain't nothing creepier than smiles when it's on the face of something slowly, inexorably walking towards you. I imagine a DG battlefield is filled with low, silent laughter. Not mirthful, belly-shaking laughs. Not edgy grunt-laughing. But a constant drone of "hehehe". From most of them. As they approach. And you try to stop them, but you can't. And you shoot them in their stupid, smiling faces but the laughing still doesn't stop. Pretty sure one of 'em sprouted an extra mouth there just to laugh some more.
    And the little daemon bebes definitely cackle maniacally, in a higher pitch. Same with the Poxwalkers.
    And why wouldn't they laugh, really. Papa Nurgle always wins in the end.

    • @TheDirtysouthfan
      @TheDirtysouthfan 4 роки тому +1

      From what I understood, the range is actually based off of one of the game designers customized armies. Which I think is awesome, to be honest. The models and paint schemes have been more passion projects of the designers nowadays and you can really see the love in GW's new models, especially when they make models for stuff like Rogue Trader, with new Kroot models and even more obscure forgotten parts of 40k like Demiurg and Zoat models. It's also why Tau are painted in a pale white and red Vior'la scheme rather than Tau Sept as it used to be; one of the Eavy Metal painters had an army in that scheme and marketing loved it, so they changed the default scheme for Tau.

    I actually really like all the extra effects and details, things such as the smoke, the flies, blisters, mutations. It really helps set the army range apart from anything else. Without these details DG would just be another version of green space marines. These things sure are challenging to paint but that's just a process that comes down to research, refinement, skill and the broadening of some techniques previously not used. But I can see how these things would be to taxing, I can't even imagine what year I'd be having the time to paint this army up. But army range wise, it's outstanding.

    • @foulmoodcentral2830
      @foulmoodcentral2830 4 роки тому

      Agreed! there's alot of details and mutations on them that can easily be removed if wanted, but allows the range to be very varied and stand out, after all Nurgle gifts them with constant shifting diseases to take shape and spread. making each varied and stand out on the blightlords is alot of fun, bone-stalks, tentacles, buboes, teeth, blisters, horns, having them appear different with nearly every model adds to the intended chaos of their faction.

    • @mikev8746
      @mikev8746 4 роки тому

      @@foulmoodcentral2830 Yep, it's a 'unique selling point' regarding the model range. It just happens to come in the form of organic details which are obviously daunting to paint. The design team has really elevated the Death Guard with these fine details, so much so that even regular infantry look unique from one another. However I still believe GW could do better regarding the assistance, guiding and education of painting all models. For example I still have to contact Eavy Metal painters for certain recipes or I have to use my eye and do days of research trying to figure out how they achieved a certain look. Thankfully they mostly use Citadel paints otherwise it would have been impossible and you could certainly "put your own twist on it" but even in this department GW might release an in-depth guidebook on how color spotting works, how to pick paints in general, how to mix them, use certain techniques and such. They release these amazing models painted up in all their splendor and there's just very little information for the consumer to get their hands on. It really stays a self-help hobby which is fine for the dedicated, but I can completely understand why some people wish to remove all these mutations because they simply have no clue how to paint it vs say more square looking power armor.

  • @Dragoon_Quinn

    Death guard is my first and so far only army, and I do find it hard to look at my terminator squads and feel like the fly boy fits in. Compared to the other models, his only traits are fly traits, no bone spikes, teeth, or extra pipes, he kinda just comes off as a possessed that tagged along because he's the only one that could carry the reaper autocannon. Felthius and his cohort look like concept models made legitimate, all of their Nurgle-esque features are super sized and done up to draw attention, and each one has their features done in one colour to see if they pair well with their armour and to see if it fits the theme.

    The one thing I hate about the lord fesltus terminators is that one of them can be and probably should have been modeled with a melee weapon since it can use one along with its plauge flamer weapon. I had to green stuff a bile sword on but still.

    I actually find the faces to be very thematic, they're becoming more and more like Nurgle, creepy grin and diseased skin, happy to be blessed with the task to spread more and more contagion and decay. Yes, they look odd, but I think it's intended.

    Warning : the myphytic blighthauler might be "easy to build" but after making 3 and painting them, they are not easy to build. The parts on the guns and the cover on the track at the back just do not fit together properly. I tried to push them in with pliers, brute force, I tried filing down the inside to make them fit better, no matter what you do you will get a MASSIVE gap on the weapons and at the back. If you make yours, get yourself some green stuff and a sculpting tool, unless you don't mind calling big gaps "battle damage", but yeah they are horrible to work with. Horrible.

    A demon primarch - from my point of view - is a mockery of all that's imperial. To me those flies are the parodies of the kerubs we can see - for example - on the living saint of the Emperor. Anyway, thank you for the review and best of wishes from Hungary.

    Or you could heat bend those chains and make them look better. Easy tool for it would be glue gun's muzzle... Just saying...

    I'm glad they're not zombies, as man are zombies horribly played out and at least these are something a bit different.
    Agree on Typhus though. Old one just had this utter menace that this newer one doesn't even come close to replicating.

    I would love it if it came out the bombard was designed from the plaguecrawler. But to hide that they nicked a design from a chaos legion they rewrote the history books to make it look like the bombard came first.

    Can you make a review on the space marine/primaris range? Preferably two separate vids because the ranges are so massive.

    Octopi = Tzeentch, probably isn't as random you think, much in the way Tzeentch uses a lot of crow imagert to represent change & cunning, Octopi are hugely intelligent creatures, with a heavy emphasis on unique evolutionary structure.
    They're another animal that metaphorically or (old-school) spiritually represent everything Tzeentch represent, & now I want more cool animal-esq themes in the Tzeentch line's....

    Great video the only disagreement I have with you is the biologious putrifier (God knows if that’s spelt correctly) as it feels different to the rest of the entire Death Guard line. To ‘clean’ just not enough iconography and pestilent fecundity for me. It is also the only model in the entire range still sitting unpainted on my desk 🤔

    Great review, would disagree on the reasoning behind the gun horns you complained about, if not the execution. A marine doesn't have to carry their weapon 24/7 for it to become an extension of their body, even loyalists do that. Living in the eye literally causes their emotional attachments to their wargear to become manifest through stuff like weapons gaining the appearance of their owner in subtle ways. As I say, I'm not too sure of the execution on that particular combi bolter but in theory it does fit with the lore.

    I feel like the problem with 40k burgle is that a lot of the designs look like they want to be in Age of Sigmar. And also the faces... just give them a serious face. I know that Nurgle takes away your pain and makes you jovial and stuff, but they just *look* goofy. When it comes down to it, they’re still Chaos Space Marines, yet they have more of a drunk Ork feel.

    I also feel the tentacles are more of a Tzeench thing.
    I would really like more cthonic elements in Tzeench and less cthonic in other factions, except for maybe Tyranids.

    I like deathguard as a concept along with gameplay but the execution in models is rough I find
    The good are poxwalkers, noxious blightbringer , vehicles and mortarion where as anything that is space marine based look kind of weird with the amount of tentacles they have and the scaling of body parts.
    Overall still debating adding a deathguard auxiliary force to my iron warriors for some extra toughness and objective holding
    I'd rather they all look more like morty with his more zombie esq appearance with horns.

    I just can't stand that light, almost pastel green they chose for the studio models. Even with all the gribbly detail on the sculpts, the light colour palette just makes them look way too clean for my tastes. Nurgle should be dank, dark and earthy.

    Update on PA- confirmed Harlequins and deathwatch only factions not to be included in PA. As a harlequin player who started in 7th suffering the difficulty using them in that broken edition, only to go into 8th and suffer trying to get the combat based glass cannons to even have a chance in the new edition, to then get nothing new in the codex to then get a few possible rules thrown at me in a WD when every other faction has something in a PA showing they are part of the narrative. I'm so depressed I was going to return after a 2 year break but if GW don't care about my faction why should I?
