  • We continue on Section 3 of the Idaho BDR (Backcountry Discovery Route) from Elk City to Yellow Pine (heading south). Highlights include: Florence Ghost Town, French Creek Grade, Pilot Fire Lookout and the Old Abandoned Bus.
Elk City to Yellow Pine is the most remote segment of the Idaho BDR route. Fuel stops are limited and expensive in the small towns but much cheaper than a tow or recovery. There are plenty of opportunities for exploring rough roads. None of the roads are technically challenging but the remoteness brings a challenge element.
Be well prepared! Certain sections of the route are traveled infrequently and will be rough limiting travel speed with obstacles (often trees) to deal with. It’s best to have a flexible schedule and explore along the way.
Next week… we nearly run out of fuel and find hot springs.

Ahh ... the Gospel Hump Wilderness. Another one of my favorites. I took my dog to Florence back in the 1990s. Weird, isn't it? Old west graveyard in the midst of thick forest.

It is a strange place but fun exploring!

Forget the avocado, it’s the tomato you gotta worry about. I was up there in my rig for a month myself in August and really explored but not as deep as you two did. Not having a bike rack certainly affords more mobility. I just bought a dual sport so now I really gotta take it easy. Thanks for the vids.

Haha - good point!! There's so much to explore... moto adventures would be great fun too! Same idea we did with the SxS. But does limit the camper a bit. :)

Bad smells must help preserve wood. Hey, I'm not knocking your videos at all but why are you filming in widescreen? I'm the same guy that was bitching about your blaring music in an early video. LOL. I enjoy your channel so much and your adventures, I don't mean to be a bitcher. LOL keep up the good work and safe travels

Yeah... unfortunately this trip was all filmed the same. But changed the format since then. Thanks!!

So I'm going to make another dumb comment. It looks like that school bus was involved in a mob hit .

Totally agree!! Guess travelers use it for target practice and steal stuff out of it. Wierd of abandoned junk can become cool with age. Hehe
