Thanks for watching! I hope this inspires anyone out there thinking to do a build like this to DO IT !! It was quite a bit of fun, although it started out slow figuring out how to make it work... once it started taking shape things progressed fast. For my use, it will really make "getting out there" a bit easier, allowing more time for fishing, hunting, foraging or what ever. I enjoy setting up a big camp sometimes, but most times when out on a "mission" so to speak having home already set up really takes a load off and will let the focus be on the planned activity. Post up tips, tricks, comments or ideas below if you want, I love to talk shop on this type of stuff!!
Really nice set up.. I'd sleep well in there lol.. When you sat in the corner on bed I had an idea for more comfort using one of those (corner like arm rest pillows, with back support too)., maybe you've seen them and maybe you can find a camouflage colored one.. just for more comfort while sitting up reading (?) in that corner of bed..👍 Stay warm, safe and blessed and happy camping..👍
This is the best and most usable builds I've seen! Just enough thought, fabrication and usability. I'm going to save this for reference. Safe and wonderful journeys!
I’m glad you made something you like and fits the flat bolt shapes that you and other regular skills people are comfortable with. less is more often in life.
Clean, sturdy, simple, functional, cost effective. I think you hit all the marks! This type of build makes more sense to me than a van. I like having a 4x4 truck, the modular type build still keeps it practical as a truck when you need it. Well done sir!
Thank you! I also considered a van for a while... but the 4wd is a must for me and the van conversions seem very expensive and reliant on a lot of special parts. I also like the separation of gear rattling around ha ha!
I've lived on wheels for over 2 decades; by choice. Believe me, you don't need much more than this to be happy. I have never built in formal sinks, faucets & toilets with holding tanks in any of my rigs. * It's good to get out of the sticks-n-bricks mindset when you camp or live FT on wheels. This is a good, no BS build. Well done 👍 *Less is More. You don't need to blow a lot of $$$ on a rig to be happy.
I built something similar many years ago in a GMC Suburban with the rear barn doors. It was quite a bit different in many ways, but it was built in the same spirit of adventure. I used to live aboard my 29' sailboat, but often times I would travel around Florida and camp out and go fishing. Under the bed I had the 2 long compartments that I kept one of those easy up shelters in and my fishing poles, a shovel and a few other long tools. On the right I had a spot for my propane heater at the back and I had a similar hinged counter top space over the wheel well for all my smaller stuff an propane bottles. Later I added a marine propane tank mounted under the truck. The Suburban was quite a bit longer than your truck bed and I removed the two rear 60/40 bench seats. I That's the space I used to make my little galley for cooking and cookware and where I kept my coolers. One for food and one for clean ice and water. I think I spent about $200.00 to build the whole thing and it was the best RV I ever had. I've actually been looking around for another one just lately, but this time I want to get a 4x4. I rarely needed a 4x4 in Florida, but up here I need one. I like your little camper. There's no need to go and spend thousands of dollars on an elaborate RV when you know how to use a few tools. Happy camping man!
Thank you, it is great having a kitchen and bed ready to go! And the shorter profile keeps trail clearing down to a minimum compared to a full slide in.
Keeping it simple is the best approach as you have done, in my humbled opinion. It's all about the experience not the mod. cons. Well done. Great work.
Nice clean build, just Subbed. I converted a 96 Suburban for camping and I love it. Just pull up to a site, Park, toss a meal in the microwave and kick back with some Netflix. My last trip out, I was glad I was in the truck and not a tent, big ole bear come rummaging through camp. Thanks for sharing and hope you have awesome trips in the new rig, stay safe.
You said you're not a carpenter but man it looks pretty good to me I love that setup I go to the lakes and appears I live down in South Florida and this would be ideal for me for just going by myself or whatever you know for a night or even a weekend man thanks for making the video keep up the good work
I like your truck box layout, well done. I spray painted my foam reflectix flat black so it doesn’t look getto , new subscriber here , I love camping in a tent , truck box tent , teardrop camper and a 15 ft travel trailer, and fishing for walleye.
I love the design! I have a 1999 ford ranger, extend cab. Unfortunately, for now , the topper it came with is can level. But I am determined to come up with a more organized way of packing the back for easy camping; even if I do have to use a tent so hubby can come along.
11:04pm loved the build. I’m planning a very similar idea but I’m dealing with a Frontier crew cab with a short bed. Thank goodness I’m short. My build is to go explore the country and to do it safely. Not many truck caps to choose from and none so far taller than the cab. Have fun😊
I did the same thing and a 64 Ford van and did it with the birch wood turned out really me and wifey loved it for getting away that was a 64 Ford Econoline
Nice build-out! I especially like the space for the fishing rods 😄For that drawer at the foot of the bed, it looks like you have enough room to put a metal handle on either side. Those would help you carry the drawer around when packing, or maneuvering inside the cab. Otherwise, very solid build. Hope you get years of enjoyment out of it.
It's a good job you did. I'm looking forward to doing something like this on my Dodge truck I just bought. Definitely good for camping which is what I like to do the most of. Thank you for sharing this. It's given me some good ideas for my future build. I just need to find a camper shell for my truck and I can start the project.
Nice thought out simple build. Got to love the room in a 6½ft bed. Although i do love the smaller Toyotas. I had a '79 that looked similar to the one you have pictured with rollover damage. Just found the channel and was browsing your other videos. I'll have to binge watch them all one day😊. I have a very similar build in my Ram. I see in some of your other videos your also into dual sports. Do you ever bring them while truck camping? I have 2 dual sports like yourself and always wanted 😊😊to bring one along. But was always nervous about those hitch mounts. Wobble way to much for my liking. I'm almost done building a simple custom unit that mounts in three 2in receivers for a rock solid mount, no matter what the road or trail condition. Just some food for thought. If your into bringing the TW or KLR along. Thanks for posting, looking forward to seeing it put to use
Hello, thank you for the comments! I do bring the TW along with my truck, I love having it along for trail scouting and hunting. I have one of the heavy duty steel carriers that mounts in the receiver. I also built a rear receiver for my 18' travel trailer. On the trailer I secured each end of the carrier to the bumper via turnbuckles. I welded single chain link on either side of the bumper, this takes 90% of the "wobble" out. Before it would definitely sway back and forth and not being able to see it on the trailer it made me nervous like you ha ha!. On the truck it is not so bad but I will probably do the same but need to drill through the bumper and add eye bolts for the turnbuckles, just like a camper tie down. The only issue on the truck will be losing access to the bed when the bike is mounted, I wish I had one of the side windows that opened up like the contractor style do... but that will be down the road.
@RatherBeWheeling I was also concerned about the bed access once a bike is loaded. We made the rack allowed to slide in and out Approx 9in. That gives me enough room to clear the handle bars with the flip up window. And then crawl in over the tailgate. That's how we set it up, whether or not I'll be able to slide it is another question I'll have to wait to answer when the rack is complete. We did put zerk fittings for grease to help. The DR350 is in the 275lb range, but the DR650 is closer 375. Time will tell. LOL
I like this. I am currently doing this with mine. I just got the shell but no key to lock. I am trying to solve this dilemma. I ordered a twin bed at home depot fits on one side. I want some sort of storage under the bed. I need to set up ice chest and water jug on opposite side. Plus storeage. Considering setting up electrical system to charge camera batteries and phone. I have a jackery for now. Camp on

Cool set up
Well done, love your ideas and will incorporate some on my truck bed trailer with cap for camping. Thanks and New Subscriber for ya too

It doesn't matter what folks thinks. You built it to your needs and that's all that matters.
Don't sell yourself short. You did a great job and it is very well thought out for what you want to do.
This is the best and most usable builds I've seen! Just enough thought, fabrication and usability. I'm going to save this for reference. Safe and wonderful journeys!
Thank you very much!
@@RatherBeWheelingit's freaking awesome! Well done!
Very nice work for a non-carpenter!
I live in a rural area so you can say I'm camping out every day lol - you did a good presentation it was a good watch -
I’m glad you made something you like and fits the flat bolt shapes that you and other regular skills people are comfortable with. less is more often in life.
I am a carpenter and I am impressed thanks for the inspiration

Bro don’t change anything it’s perfect! Wow those pics of the build are helpful, I’d make this exact setup Ty man
Nice build! It's very well thought out. You clearly put a great deal of thought into the layout.
Thank you! It was pretty fun once I finally got started!

simple, very functional and meets the need for comfort during overlanders
This is really practical. Love it!
Nice work! You have given me ideas to use in my own build. Appreciate your effort!
Just became homeless but I have a good job. I’m gonna start with this set up! Thanks 🙏🏽
Great build man. Super simple but sleek and functional. Lots of great ideas to implement in my build. Much appreciated.
Wow, excellent simple build. Exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the video and walkthrough!

Nicely done
Nice, smart, simple setup. I would love to do the same.
That is really a nice setup, and you did a good job on it. i love the fact that you can just jump in and go camping without much work.
Thank you, it is great having a kitchen and bed ready to go! And the shorter profile keeps trail clearing down to a minimum compared to a full slide in.

Thank you for the kind words, Sounds like you have your Suburban set up nice!
Microwave!? 😀 Wow you added power and upper class to your rig.
Nice design, simple and functional.
That's a nice build. For you not being a carpenter you did good.
Very nice job, hope you get a ton of use out of it.
You have built a nice, well thought out camper.
You said you're not a carpenter but man it looks pretty good to me I love that setup I go to the lakes and appears I live down in South Florida and this would be ideal for me for just going by myself or whatever you know for a night or even a weekend man thanks for making the video keep up the good work

Nice build. Well thought out.
Very well thought out. The tailgate table is great.
This is an impressive build! It not only looks great but is also highly functional and practical.
Very nice job , really enjoyed the video. My son and I did a build in his truck. Great job.
I love the design! I have a 1999 ford ranger, extend cab. Unfortunately, for now , the topper it came with is can level. But I am determined to come up with a more organized way of packing the back for easy camping; even if I do have to use a tent so hubby can come along.
It's a wonderful build!
That's a nice build out. I sleep in my short bed truck canopy diagonally. Wish I had that sort of space that you have.
It is nice having the extra space to stretch out... compared to my last trucks 5' bed this feels like a mansion!
Really nice straight forward build and serves the purpose just fine.
Nice, this is what I'm looking to do with my truck. Thanks for showing the details.
straightforward setup….
outstanding…
Mav been everywhere in his 150 with a shell he really likes the stealthy simplicity
Perfect build functional and dynamic 👌
Good job nothing too fancy just what you need. Good work thanks for sharing.
Looks great, everything looks very functional , I like simple. Great video brother!
That's quite a nice little setup
Very well thought out and built
Impressive!!! So well thought out!! Love it!! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Very nicely done, I have seen a few people set these up this year but this is well thought out and looks comfy, thanks for sharing
I like it, you built all of it well and simple!👍🏻👍🏻
A good one Dougie there’s so many ways you can set a truck camper up like you said it’s all depends on what you want
amazing DIY, amazing video introduction👍
This is a nice simple build. I’ve just finished building a cedar topper for my tundra and plan to do something similar. Seems very practical.
Very well made. Simply and effective. I like that. 👍👍
Well thought out. Simple and to the point. Very practical. A+ nice build. 🤙🌊🦆🕺✌️
Nice simple set up
Great well done video and a very nice practical camper !
Good stuff. Gave me some ideas for a hunting camper.
Thanks for sharing your truck bed build, it HS given me ideas for my build. Great video. Thanks again
Very nice build. Simple, efficient. Well done.
Thanks!
Nice setup

But now I’m really excited to see you have built what I have planned in my mind
I think it's spot on. You nailed it!!
Thank You!
Nicely done! I like the shelf above the bed. That’s got my gears turning for my set up. 🤔
I did the same thing and a 64 Ford van and did it with the birch wood turned out really me and wifey loved it for getting away that was a 64 Ford Econoline
Well planned and thought out and a good carpentry job. Thx!
This is a great idea! It does the job!
Looks nice , I'ld also have a tent for when I wanna be outside more.
Cool build 👍
Nice job, it looks comfortable.
Nice job. The cutouts look pro.
Nice build. I've been thinking about one for my own truck. But this one is the first I've seen that I think I might try to make one similar.
Thanks! It is kind of a mashup inspired by many others here on YT... was a fun build!
Nice setup i just finished my first build this fall and already have ideas for the next.
ha ha, I can relate!
Nice build-out! I especially like the space for the fishing rods 😄For that drawer at the foot of the bed, it looks like you have enough room to put a metal handle on either side. Thank you! The handles idea is a good one, it can be a bit heavy when full.
Not fancy but VERY nicely thought out. Thanks for the ideas.
Nice design! Enjoy your travels!!
Great build!!
Hell of a lot cheaper than the overland campers
Nicely done! I been thinking about doing same to my f150.
New subbie here. I like your setup. Ive been looking at something like this for myself. Great ideas! Good job.
Thank you, glade it was of interest for you!

That’s really a great build
Thanks that's what I want to do with my truck!
That’s an awesome system… thank you very much for sharing.
Great ideas on your set up ,one of the best out there congrats my friend.
Thank you, really enjoying it so far!
Very cool,practical build. Good job.
Thank you!
I love your ideas. Never thought of doing that.
Well done and thought out. Now let me see that Jeep build…. I hope it’s a WJ!
Thanks, Jeep build is just the cookie cutter wrangler lol. Had a few XJs and TJ in the past... wish I would have kept my last XJ!
Great job 👍
Well done looks like alot of fun all the nessary things nicely done
Thank you, really enjoying it so far!
Nice setup! Thanks for sharing
Good ideas and job.
