Getting on the property ladder is expensive, but it doesn't have to be, there are abandoned places around the world where you can buy a whole town, city or village for less than the price an average home in most countries.
Ok you'd be lonely, but you could make yourself the mayor, you wouldn't have to worry about neighbours, and you could have parties as loud as you wanted, but even though some of these ghost towns are ridiculously cheap, they do come with some rather odd conditions.

The problem in the U.S. is all the rules and requirements to get stuff. I found offers for "free" everything online and when I called all the numbers, all the rules prevented me from getting anything. The rules cancel almost everyone out. They should not offer free things, when it is nearly impossible to get it.

3:03 "You might get lucky and find a little bit of gold." Well, for one, that nugget is more than just a little bit of gold. However, the bigger issue is are you buying MINERAL RIGHTS or the associated mining claim that allows you to gather said gemstones or gold from your property? When you purchase property, mineral rights do not always convey. So, finding a nugget like that might just mean that you have to turn it over to the person who owns those rights. Now, wouldn't that suck?

@@deathwizard1996 not always, you may not even own the mineral, gas or oil rights. A lot of times realtors will even lie and say they can not even determine who owns those rights. When looking at any property for a homestead you have to come with a massive list of questions as they will not share info unless you ask. I remember one time I was interested in this one place only to find out they had some stupid restriction that you could not have anymore than three chickens - no joke. There are places they will not let you have aquaponic systems, but you would not know unless you asked ahead of time. So I learned over the years to have a long list of questions that email to the listing agent to get answered before even looking, because as I said I have found places that will list a property as no restrictions when in fact there are many. It is amazing how many places will not allow tiny homes because there are minimum square footage requirements, or the house can not be on wheels . . .

I’d want to be able to modernize the plumbing, HVAC, electrical and when necessary move walls and make additions to buildings. Then, I would want a 50 year business tax abatement. That is, any business I could bring into the town could avoid taxes. These businesses would then pay small a local tax that would be used to improve the infrastructure and help make the area energy independent and for future growth.

However there is another town here called Gillman, Co that was another huge zinc mine that polluted the water so bad they shut the entire town down and it is now a EPA superfund site. However people do make it 800ft down the side of the mountain to reach the mine at the bottom of the canyon. And there is somewhere around 70 miles worth of tunnels to explore plus all the mining stuff at the bottom. St Elmo is a very cool little town. Pretty easy to get to.

I went to watch again and show my boyfriend, and although St Elmo is mentioned in the start, the 'story' they had is no longer in this vid. They must have gotten slammed with people telling them it was a lie... ha!

@Alan formula1 So sorry you got screwed over the way you did. Unfortunately, gear usually disappears anytime it's separated from the soldier. Peace and wartime. There's always some dirtbag with no morals integrity that will take your gear. However, in a casualty situation, there's always the chance that your gear was taken off and became separated from you during transfer, admit, or triage? Just a guess as they can't place your gear on your body. Thank you for serving. You said you were hurt in Iraq, hope you applied for disability. If denied go through DAV or other Veteran organization. Something like the place in Utah would be great for Veterans as some like peace and quiet, outdoors, and just to be left alone.
