Pretty much. A handful of people still online, or who came across the fact that the game was still up, probably decided to put some stories on 4chan and see if they could screw with some people.
I remember checking out this game many years ago. Never spoke to Nexialist but I saw him floating above the main hub a few times. Some other players, who had creepy avatars in their own right, greeted me in the starting area and gave me a tour of some of their favorite worlds including ones they were still creating. Most were horror related (at least, once you dug deeper into the seemingly innocent levels) and had secrets scattered throughout. I get the feeling they were trying to bring me into their fold, as it was a pretty empty and lonely game even then. There is a lot they had shown me that wasn't covered in this video, but I think some things are best kept a mystery. There's a lot of fun in exploring the game for yourself, and I can only imagine what else those strange players have created since.
@@ancient122 I genuinely really like it even though the options are limited. Just the user interface for actual in-depth customization is fucking abysmal and would give just about anyone an aneurysm.
To me there is nothing creepier than loading into an online game and no one else is online and it's completely empty and barren, silence all around you exploring alone and no one to interact with, that's what really creeps me out it gives me a feeling like I'm not alone and I'm being watched yet also a feeling of complete loneliness

Rather than creepy, it makes me sad. I played a lot of these dead games when I was a a kid or a teen. I see worlds where I had adventures with friends, so full of life, now empty.
Ironically i can still log into my same UO and DAOC accounts...but if anyone is to be found theyre just forgotten bots on autopilot. old guild halls replaced by empty houses. friends all moved on long ago. empty worlds where the stories dont matter because nobody is left to hear them. devs, friends.. long moved on or deceased irl. and people say the internet is nothing like real life, theyre wrong. maybe eventually everyone ends up alone in a hollow world..
Currently having that experience on Minecraft Bedrock due to a crippling bug on the PC port which is preventing most of the players on the server from getting on due to "Outdated Client" since the update they need to play was pulled for that reason Not as long term as the other examples but has the same vibes

Back in 2011-12, maybe earlier, there were some threads on /x/ just like this. A bunch of people logged into the game on the first night, and we all hung out, and got the shit scared out of us when Nexialist popped in. Three days later there was only four or five people that stuck around from the group, but nexialist kept popping up, trying to show us around the place. Some days, he'd be giant, literally 100x taller than anybody. Other days he'd just be a floating head, or a kind of Will 'o the Wisp, just a little flame floating around, with his name attached. He showed me around.. some scary, scary places. Never really said anything. Sometimes he'd repeat sentences over and over again in certain places. Like he kept on hitting a button, or trigger. Maybe a month or so went by, then life did its' thing, and I just forgot about the game, .exe file still on my desktop. Years and years later, and a few hard drives later too, I'm watching this, pausing it halfway through to remember my strolls through hell, and a david bowie love shrine, with Nexialist, and that one other guy.

@ᜃ ᜋᜃᜆᜂ Capitalist? Copyright and patents are protectionism, antithetical to capitalism. Might want to think it through before posting something this stupid.
@ᜃ ᜋᜃᜆᜂ You're in no place to claim I don't understand something when you don't understand your own statement and how stupid it sounds. Patent laws and copyright aren't capitalist. Exploiting people with patents is borderline scamming. A capitalist market awards creations that people want and pay for, not some idiot with a grant from the government interfering in such creations. If anything, he's just using left wing economic policies to legally scam people.
@ᜃ ᜋᜃᜆᜂ Exactly, you're right, but that's not capitalist is it? Bribing the government and both parties to implement/uphold laws, which makes the barrier of entrance for competitors higher... that's quite the opposite. That was my point. I personally would like to see them gone but yeah, reforming them is a compromise that's good enough in my book. I've been a victim of patent trolls, it's a huge waste of time and money, and it's predatory.
Imagine player unknowns battlegrounds trying to sue epic for the battle royale format for fortnite after using unreal engine to build their game. Its that kind of world.
It doesn't have to hold up in court. All it has to do is provoke the people being sued into paying a relatively small amount of money to the troll instead of paying a much larger amount of money to take the troll to court.
For everyone that find this video interesting, I highly recomment you all to play this virtual world at least once, its a great remnant from the 80's-90's, it's not all scary and dangerous as everyone picture it.
Hey Nexpo, I love this video and it weirdly reminds me of this thing that happened on Neopets back in 2005 (maybe 06?). The website was notoriously very strict about censorship due to it being primarily for children, so you could get banned very easy. There was a user called "TeddyEddy" or something, he and other users called "ghosts" were terrorizing kids, sending death threats in neomail without getting banned, and supposedly baiting people on the forums to come look at their profile which hosted graphic images. All this was against the rules, and the staff was very stringent about freezing accounts for even looking slightly suspicious, so if someone, or multiple people got away with this, it was particularly unusual. I mean that website would ban for nearly anything back then, I once got a penalty for making an emoji that they thought was a lewd gesture "( o:
something similar happened on webkinz. i remember getting harassed constantly in the trading rooms by these labrador retrievers with very specific clothing (same sunglasses, shoes, etc on their pets). they would emote over everyone in the clubhouse lol
God, this made me remember something a friend told me years ago(and being a stupid kid at the time I believed) where Neopets was attempting to take down Webkinz(which I played on both) by invading the clubhouse or your house and launching rockets at your pet to kill them and even if you logged off it would be there when you came back and there was no escape. Alternatively, if you logged on to Neopets you'd get a prompt that would ask if you wanted to invade Webkinz, and even if you said no you would still have to. It was a weird time and I was too afraid to log onto either game.
this is way late, but i know there’s been talk of neopets being connected to the church of scientology. maybe that could help you figure out what was going on?
It’s insane how many people find this stuff to be genuinely creepy. All of it is just art that is meant to provoke these reactions that cause people to make videos about them; weaving together a story that gets people hooked simply because it is presented as being mysterious. Realistically, anyone who would legitimately be doing nefarious things wouldn’t do it in literal plain sight.
necroposting a bit here but i’m really glad someone said what i was thinking as i was watching this. this whole thing reads like the bizarre creative endeavors of a bunch of weirdos who like horror art, especially cult themes. nexialist especially is clearly just a digital artist who loves showing off his works
This makes me think of all the criminals throughout history who were doing nefarious things in plain sight and took several years to get caught. Tons of cases of this in recent history, a lot of which were on some type of social media platform *cough* 4chan *cough* so it’s really not that difficult to imagine at all. Not saying that’s what these people are doing, but yeah.
@@Omnibushido- like what for instance? I agree that it does happen, but usually it’s not something super obvious like this where the people actively want others to speculate and make videos about it to draw others in
"It begs the question: What is so pivotal about this game that it is still in existence over 20 years later?" I dunno man, maybe the guy recognizes the amount of effort people put into their worlds? Maybe he recognizes the artistry that went into so many of them, and the love that was put into them? Maybe he himself still loves his baby and wants to keep it going as a piece of history? It doesn't have to be sinister when there's so many other, far more likely explanations.

There was a streamer named Vinesauce who played Worlds on his live stream in early 2012. He encountered a player named Jofua who used the same avatar as Nexialist and several times sent private messages (called "whispers" in Worlds) to Vinesauce during the stream. The messages were rather ominous. Vinesauce refused to answer Jofua's messages and I think Jofua just gave up after awhile. The other players who were with Vinesauce mentioned Nexialist when they saw Jofua's avater, so they definitely knew about him. Hearing about Nexialist and seeing the red faced avatar just reminded me of that stream from 7 years ago. Whether Jofua was a part of some group with Nexialist or just an impersonator, I have no idea. Either way, it's rather creepy.
Used to play Worlds religiously. Found it on a certain paranormal board like a decade ago. Glad to see it brought up on Nexpo. Felt like I wasted a good year of my teens until I saw this video, 🤣🤣🤣.

Yeah me too, still have it on my older computer and it still works and lets me in but there is a lot of people there now, last time I was there a couple years ago I was all alone.
I feel like it's the frequency of us, the fact that it's sustained perpetually throughout the video, that is the issue rather than the usage of a voice modulator in of itself. The way the modulator is implemented, in terms of how it sounds, is actually pretty solid. I like how it doesn't cover up his whole voice and kind of acts as a distorted echo to his regular voice. If utilized sparsely throughout instead, at specific and distinct opportune moments, it could actually be pretty effective at adding to the intensity of the eeriness. Like if it showed up rarely for a particular word during a darker and more disturbing moment in the video, then it could be really impactful. To retain it's ability to enhance the omnibus atmosphere, it would have to infrequent enough that you never expect to hear it whenever it ends up being used, that way it catches you off guard. The issue with the modulators consistent presence is that you almost instantly become desynthetized to it and so it loses it's ability to effect you in any meaningful way, but if used in a more restrained fashion, I feel like it would pretty great for contributing to the tone of the video in a stylish way. Anyways, love the videos, they're always great!
You guys just don’t understand how weird the internet was in the early 90’s. Nexpo pronouncing David Bowie as David Buoy and not knowing George Costanza is a character from Seinfeld is too funny.
His whole channel only works because Nexpo seems to be very lacking in knowledge about well known things. In literally every video he says "subsequently" in a very bizarre way, like "sub-ZEEE-kwent-lee" instead of the actual pronunciation, "SUB-sa-kwent-lee". That's just one example. He mispronounces words constantly. I wouldn't be surprised if his next video starts with "number 15, burger King foot lettuce". I enjoy a lot of Nexpo's videos but he always makes these very bizzare mistakes that it's just baffling to see, like who on earth doesn't know who David Bowie was? I can understand not knowing George Costanza, because both the show Seinfeld and the comedian Jerry Seinfeld are completely unknown outside of North America. Like nobody in the UK has ever heard of Seinfeld, or even Curb Your Enthusiasm. I seem to be the only brit who's ever watched either of them. Mind you Nexpo sounds like he's an american so be has no excuse really. The only valid excuse would be if he was actually still a child, and he just has a really deep voice for a teenager. Because then it makes sense that he knows so little about the world. But look at photos of him. Dude's a full grown ass adult.
@@duffman18 I mean, yeah, but the channel is also a million subscriber kind of thing aimed at, for lack of a better term, normies. I could do without the voice modulator. The story speaks for itself and doesn't need the boost. I adore your videos, but the modulator's been throwing me off. It feels like it's forcing the eerie factor, but your voice itself has enough power to carry the story. Still love your content, though.

@@euclideanspace2573 protecting the private property goes against capitalism?

DeadMech1 yup. It’s much easier to just pay 50k for licensing. Especially considering it can be written off as a business expense

That'd be an intresting topic for video
something similar happened on webkinz. i remember getting harassed constantly in the trading rooms by these labrador retrievers with very specific clothing (same sunglasses, shoes, etc on their pets). they would emote over everyone in the clubhouse lol
I remember that! they banned the word "teddy" in the NeoBoards after that.

It’s insane how many people find this stuff to be genuinely creepy.

His lack of knowledge about really commonly known things, despite the fact he's apparently a full grown adult, is just embarrassing
Like he constantly even gets the pronunciation of really common words wrong.
Dude's a full grown ass adult.

hi nexpo, came back to this video because i can distinctly remember the day i watched it on. left a comment here 3 years ago which got a lot of traction apparently lol. night of december 27th, 2019, i was cuddling with my cat on the couch while my mom was at a party somewhere. i took a photo with my cat. felt very peaceful. cat died 4 months ago. wanted to experience the nostalgia again. its weird how fast time flies
The distortion doesn't make the voiceover more creepy, it's just irritating. I'm saying this with constructive intent.
i was wondering if my headphones were fuckin up lol
@Lexi Jones no because a lot of people including this OP find it genuinely annoying.
Oh thank god....... I thought i was hearing things.
It is annoying but I don't think most people notice it my friend says he dose not notice it and cant hear it so we are the lucky few that can hear it.
I don't think that it is intentional.
Just can't get over him saying "David BOO-EY" LMAOO

Nexialists "cult" is comparable to people running around in VR chat as the same character model like the Ugandan Knuckles incident
Kfray we don’t talk about that
A_Ghost yes
Alternatively it’s comparable to raids on games like Roblox, Animal Jam, etc. where a bunch of people have the same avatar and just spam the same thing over and over.
Ugandan knuckles lol
Or the black afro guys from Habbo and the "Pool's closed" debacle.
I didn’t even notice the voice distortion until I read about it in the comments and listened for it
Yeah but once you hear it, you can’t unhear it
I can't hear it still...
Explain what's wrong with his voice
evelyn the guy distorts his voice throughout the video which makes it sound all echoey
evelyn he puts a distortion on his voice (like what people who are interviewed for a tv show but still want to remain anonymous sound like), then slightly lowers the volume and uses it as a constant backing track to his voice. It’s really distracting
@@evelyn7509 if you listen closely, you might feel like an overlapping electronic voice over his when he begins a sentence or stresses any word. That's the distortion. It's mild and absolutely unnecessary, like a fly that buzzes by your ears but you just can't catch it.
amazing how something simple as a few audio notes played when a game loads up can take you back 30 years...
You know what, the voice modulator doesn’t even bother me that much. It’s the fact you say David buoy instead of David Bowie.
And thinks George Castanza is a usergroup poster. Too funny.
What modulator?
You got a lot of nerve pronouncing 'Bowie' like that, Jimbo.
Sam Button ikr!
I mean even David Bowie doesn't know how to pronounce his name.

I could do without the voice modulator. The story speaks for itself and doesn't need the boost. I adore your videos, but the modulator's been throwing me off. It feels like it's forcing the eerie factor, but your voice itself has enough power to carry the story. Still love your content, though.
I agree
Yeah I really cant stand it. It feels like my audio is messed up. The story and his natural speaking voice sets the tone well enough.
Yeah it's totally distracting
EmilyB3690 although it is a little annoying and may no serve it’s purpose it does add a bit of a vibe his voice by itself cannot provide
It actually hurts my ears. I was hoping I could watch this one, here's hoping the next vid won't have it.🤞

I'd like to see a horror game with a similar look to this game.
Someone might make that in PS4's dreams.
There's a ton of games out there visually similar to this one.
No Players Online, Nun Massacre, September 1999, Paratopic, make sure it's closed, I Feel Fantastic, The 3rd Night, Rot, and Scary Tales Vol. 1 is a group of 4 games with a similar graphic design.
Some of them are free, some are really short, just Google "Low poly horror game" some are really good and actually make you wanna sleep with the lights on.

My ex introduced me to Worlds over 10 years ago and for a few weeks we explored hundreds of worlds together.
There was a weekly ingame quiz that you could partake in and if you won you'd get a month of gold (premium) subscription.
I got the gold sub and yeah Nexialist was there back then. I remember he usually hung around the lobby, tho on at least one occasion he'd follow me and my ex around. You'd turn around and you'd see that horse face just staring.
He never talked about a cult tho, although this predates the whole 4chan thing where newbies flooded Worlds.

There is a film in the format of a game called "Agony of A Dying MMO".
This video and that afformentioned game/film kind of remind me of second life. I very recently got into second life since my university class uses it. I got to say, It's a surreal landscape that is devoid of people. Like alot of minecraft servers when no one is there.
I'm drawn into forlorn virtual worlds. Its like visiting a ghost town or dead city, but more personal since you get a sense of what kind of people inhabited it through how they manipulated the environment.

The Game's creator is keeping the servers up so He can sue anyone else who makes an MMO of a similar style.
Aight, bois, here's the plan:
Declare International Worlds .com day and have everyone play the game, racking up bandwidth and server cost on this asshole until he's forced to stop or go legit.
The servers would jusst go down for a day, then will be casually put up within a month or so. Nothing will happen even if you constantly DDOS him, the patent is still working. And I'm pretty sure the big corporations like Blizzard can afford (and would not hesitate to) ddos Worlds, if that would help.
