The funny thing about Al Bundy, is nobody on the show took more insults then he did. You could make a second entire video of other cast members making fun of him.
“Married With Children” was an American sitcom that aired from 1987-1997. There were actually a lot of people that were offended by this show, especially religious groups, and they held protests and tried to get it stopped. All that opposition really just made it even more popular, people will always want to see something that’s outrageous. I was 14 when I first started watching this show in 1987, and it was shocking and hilarious. I was in the audience to see this show being filmed seven times, it took 2-3 hours to film one half hour episode because of all the laughter, as well as the actors themselves not being able to keep from laughing. What was great about this show was that everyone got insulted, not just fat women. Al Bundy took a lot of verbal abuse, especially from his wife and Marcy. The crudest jokes on the show were directed at Al’s beautiful, but stupid and slutty, teenage daughter Kelly. The fat women who got insulted in most episodes were mostly professional comedians and actors who didn’t mind the insults. This show was so huge that for a struggling actor or comedian to get a chance to be on it was a huge career boost, and if that meant getting insulted, then so be it. The character of Marcy was one of the writers on the show, and she actually wrote many of the jokes and insults.
"Joey" from Friends made his big break on MWC. That character was, literally, what the Friends creators invisioned Joey as... just in NYC. This show was awesome! It was like, F-The Cosbey Show! That was really what FOX was when it came out. Screw you nut-jobs! We are GenX!
@@robertherring9277 The pre-production name of the show was actually called "Not the Cosbys" before they settled on the final name of "Married...with children"
+Mike I 100% agree about people wanting to see what is outrageous! I remember when Marilyn Manson was going to hold a concert in a city, I lived in. (I BELIEVE that ticket sales were pretty mediocre.) And a bunch of Women's & Religious (?) organizations held protests. . . . .And the concert SOLD OUT! (I LOVE the Pre-Internet/Social Media era, where cancel culture had almost NO power! And even often BACKFIRED!)
Fun fact: the creators of the show revealed that about 90% of the woman insulted on the show were actually comedians. And a majority of them were allowed to write their own "fat" jokes Al told them. It was a way to give them exposure and showcase how fun their jokes were
2:11 The “Expecting” joke is because Al always calls her a chicken, and she walked through the door with a chicken in a baking dish. He was referring to the bird as her newborn, not calling her pregnant. But you would have to be a little familiar with the show and character relationships to get that reference so early on in a compilation.
Why are people reinventing history? This show was heavily protested and it wasn't a typical show like people in the comment section are making it out to be. The only reason this show got made is that Fox, being a new station at the time, wanted a show that could get people to watch the new channel. Married with Children and The Simpsons are the reason behind the Fox network's early success.
It's less that people were less sensitive and more that people used to not say things out of hate. People used that to become more and more hateful, so it eventually had to be dialed back. I mean, for Christ's sake, south park is on what, season 20?
There was tons of outrage for this show when it was airing. People hated this show and kept trying to get it pulled. It actually made it more popular. It probably helped that the writing was good, the larger women were mostly comedians in on the jokes, and the director was a woman (who also played Marcy). It probably would have failed if it was played only for shock value. I can imagine the outrage today. Look at South Park, which is still airing. People hated that and tried to get it pulled. It only made it more popular. The writing is good. You don’t hear much outage over it anymore. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Hello. I really enjoyed your reaction. Pro Tip (not me, obviously): When you pause, try to always and consistently rewind the video 2 to 3 seconds before resuming - especially when your pause steps on a joke. It ensures you don't miss anything, and neither does your audience. I mention it only because you ARE missing stuff here and there. And so is your audience. Much love and well wishes from your friendly neighborhood canine superhero, HKP 🐾 _Woof!_
The thing about the character Al is the vast majority of the time these people were rude to him first. He's the kind of guy that once you take a shot at him the gloves come off and he'll hit back ten times harder. It was entertaining watching a reaction from someone who's never seen the show before. Most of the Married with Children reactions have been from people who grew up watching so they knew what to expect.
It's hard to get a clear picture of a show that ran for 12 years through watching 6 minutes of out of context one liners. Al wasn't a bad guy. He was bitter from years of being ignored and underappreciated at work and at home. He was an unsung hero. MWC and The Simpsons are the only reason the FOX network survived its first few years.
The thing to remember about Al is that all these jokes came as Al was inevitably on his way to spectacularly failing at whatever scheme he was trying at the moment, and ending up back at the shoe store the next day.
A lot of those "Fat Women" were comedians, and helped write the jokes against themselves. Also, Amanda Bearse (Marcy...the short neighbor that Al (Ed O'Neill) made fun of all the time) directed a bunch of the episodes, and helped write some of the dialog between Marcy, and Al. So these people that are being "humiliated" are in on writing the humiliation. Also, like someone else has said learn to Pause the video when you make comments, or have a very strong reaction to something. If you do miss something don't be afraid to back the video up a little so you understand what is going on. One thing specifically for compilation videos is that you shouldn't pause shortly after a segment starts without backing the video up to the beginning of the segment before you begin again. You will miss context otherwise as you did a couple of times during this reaction.
LOL! Hilarious. I suggest you watch it again because I noticed that you either talked over or you stopped the video during some punchlines. But your reactions were Priceless. I enjoyed it.
One of the super surprising facts about Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy) is that he was known as a brilliant Shakespearean theatre actor before Married With Children.
You might want to not pause the video so much. I noticed you missing a lot of the jokes or the punchlines to the joke and then have this look on your face like your waiting for the joke.
When they stop it to talk about fat jokes it was actually a skinny joke - the running joke is that the neighbor Marcie has chicken legs, and the build of a little boy.
What I think is interesting is how so many young people react to this show and say it would never fly now but admit how funny the show is? Fun fact, when this show aired it was heavily attacked by conservatives groups and if it aired today it would be attacked by the other side. From the reactions I see today I bet it would still do well. LOL
Something which can make a bit of difference is that this show was intended to be the antithesis of what American situation comedies were in the mid- to late-1980s (shows such as "The Cosby Show", for example). At the time, situation comedies involving families all focused on successful, loving, supportive families where the comedy was never really at anyone's expense. In fact, the working title of the show before "Married: With Children" was chosen was "Not the Cosbys". Al is intended to be an abrasive, crass person - someone whom it is fairly easy for the audience to find it amusing when bad things happen to him - and the rest of the family is equally flawed. My favorite quote from that show is: Peggy (Al's wife): Did you miss me? Al: With every bullet so far....
I always find it interesting when the younger generation these days gets "triggered" or "outraged" by things lke this.. yet.. grew up on Family Guy.. Archer.. South Park.. etc.. Fortunately.. the outrage crowd is being tuned out.. and the not living with your feelings on your shoulder is turning to realizing life is tough and feelings will always get hurt. JS.. good reaction.. even if you did not get some of us old folks references.. lol
Fun fact #1: A lot of the larger women being made fun of were actual comediennes, and they loved, and approved of the jokes. Fun fact #2: Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) and Marcy Darcy (Amanda Bearse) had a long time feud throughout the show. However, they were professional enough to write each other's jokes for the other person.
Like Bill Burr said "i dunno why we can't make fun of fat people, they're not a race or religion, it's curable" Bill always calling like it is, the fact that today's society is "too sensitive" is the real problem
These girls missed three-fourths of the jokes. lol Al Bundy was and remains the "Patron Saint of impolitically correctness". The Hero of heroes, if you will. lmao!
Overweight women used to line up to be on the show. People were a lot different back then. We laughed at everything. Then the home pc was invented, the internet, social media, and comedy has suffered ever since.
Ladies. Here is some info that might help you get some of the jokes. Al's biggest issue at work is day after day dealing with women who wear a size 10 trying to get him to cram their feet into a 6. He tends to see them all as large unpleasant women. Also Marcy (the next door neighbor) he always says she looks like a chicken, thus all the chicken jokes. In fact when she walked in with the baking dish in her hands and he said I didn't know you were expecting he wasn't talking about her weight. He was saying she had had a baby (chicken). From what you say in your comment I am assuming people told you about talking over jokes and punchlines. We learn by doing. You are much improved in your newer vids, and are a joy to watch. Both of you.
You continually pause right before the punchline when you pause the game commentary you should push the back button before continuing to play the video
Talking is fine, but you should pause the video first. With these rapid-fire jokes, you wind up missing some. Good job watching to the end. Most reacters are in a hurry and cut out that last bit.
So, one of the running jokes on this show was him continuously making chicken references to the neighbor. That’s why there are so many chicken comments that don’t make a lot of sense if you don’t know the history.
Gen Z Douches: “There’s no room in this world for fat jokes anymore!” Al Bundy: “Well there would be if you put down the knife and fork once in a while!”
I thought it was great! Having two teenage daughters of my own though, I'm not sure I'd want them watching this show. I will say that the older I get, the more I relate to Al Bundy - or Clark Griswold.
This show was a very popular back in the day. Really funny. The insults just kept coming and not a snowflake to be seen. Karens come into his shop complaining and he let's them have it. I loved the ones where Al compares Marcie (the neighbour) to a chicken or a boy.
Girls love your reactions however little bit of advice, choose your times to talk or pause as your missing much of the punchlines or jokes…keep up the good work and look forward to future reactions…….
Al pokes fun at Marcy (the neighbour) by calling her chicken because, according to him, she looks and acts like a chicken. So any insult he throws at Marcy is ‘chicken’ related.

I mention it only because you ARE missing stuff here and there. And so is your audience.
Much love and well wishes from your friendly neighborhood canine superhero,
HKP 🐾
_Woof!_
THE best comedyshow ever made…! Al is the GOAT and a Legend…! Watched this series so many times, just because of Al and his NO’Mam group 🤦🏾♂️
It was one of the best shows of the 80s-90s. Its about a guy who peaked in HS and his life now. Its really very very funny.
Love the reactions of you and your friend Georgia , keep up the great job you doing
Thanks so much!😆
You did not listen to half of the jokes
Yes! Would be better if they paused before talking.
The biggest joke of the show was “Al never wins” . But every now and again he gives a shot back.
Al Bundy is indeed a living legend.
He sure is!!!
If your going to endlessly pause, at least rewind about ten seconds
The thing about the character Al is the vast majority of the time these people were rude to him first. He's the kind of guy that once you take a shot at him the gloves come off and he'll hit back ten times harder.
It was entertaining watching a reaction from someone who's never seen the show before. Most of the Married with Children reactions have been from people who grew up watching so they knew what to expect.
Ed O'Neill was playing Lenny from of mice and Men on Broadway when he got the call to audition for Al Bundy . He's basically Lenny .
With wit
Marriage with Children was cancelled in 1997 because of production cost and decline in viewership.
If this was new and on tv right now it would be the most watched show on
My Mom couldn't stand risqué humor until this show aired.
She was laughing just as hard as my Dad and I at these jokes. 😂
Fun fact all the The customers were comedians and wrote their own insults for Al(Ed O’Neil) to use
Here in 2024 and your two reactions are great. 😊
People are too wimpy these days. They never would’ve survived their childhood had they grown up in the 80’s. People were still free to speak then.
Married with children was absolute gold! Same with All in the family
Married with children is a guide book for newly married men
The thing to remember about Al is that all these jokes came as Al was inevitably on his way to spectacularly failing at whatever scheme he was trying at the moment, and ending up back at the shoe store the next day.
Greatest comedy sitcom ever people just need thicker skin and a sense of humor
The big women actually volunteered to appear in the show
Funny thing is, most of these jokes were by women writers.
The skinny jokes are just as brutal, the chicken and flat chested jokes were hilarious.
I love the fact that i wasnt born in 21 century. I would be probably like them.
2:11 that's not a fat joke - he was always calling her chicken.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Your Dad is a Legend.
You have a great attitude. Thank you for bringing us along.😉
LOL! Hilarious. I suggest you watch it again because I noticed that you either talked over or you stopped the video during some punchlines. But your reactions were Priceless. I enjoyed it.
This is such a comfort show!😂
If you want savage do British 90s standup! Good post though love MWC! 🇬🇧🇺🇸
One of the super surprising facts about Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy) is that he was known as a brilliant Shakespearean theatre actor before Married With Children.
As an avid reaction watcher, I was impressed to know that this was your first ever reaction. I look forward to seeing other videos. Nice work!
I started watching this show in the early or mid-2000s. The episodes were certainly not boring.
its funnier cause all the women in this show wrote those fat jokes. this show was risky even in the 90s lol
I grew up watching this show. Moved to the States a year after it aired. Best show I ever watched. Still #1 in my book.
Best thing about these insults is that the actress that played marcy was also a writer for the show and the most savage ones were written by her.
you missed half of it by interrupting.
Watch when he was in Wayne's World. Hilarious
LOL
3:50 Al always compares Marcy to a chicken, hence the many chicken-related jokes about her.
My favorite quote from that show is:
Peggy (Al's wife): Did you miss me?
Al: With every bullet so far....
..your reactions make this video totally hilarious...thnx
I always find it interesting when the younger generation these days gets "triggered" or "outraged" by things lke this.. yet.. grew up on Family Guy.. Archer.. South Park.. etc.. Fortunately.. the outrage crowd is being tuned out.. and the not living with your feelings on your shoulder is turning to realizing life is tough and feelings will always get hurt. JS.. good reaction.. even if you did not get some of us old folks references.. lol
Al Bundy is the perfect role model for all Men. Bundy For President 😁👍
I'm glad you get the jokes and aren't to offended by these older jokes
You continually pause right before the punchline when you pause the game commentary you should push the back button before continuing to play the video
It was the greatest show!!!!
They would have a heart attack watching Sam Kinison!
Stop pausing……
“You can’t make fun of fat people” Anyone born before 2000: “Watch me!!!”
Used to watch this as a kid too!
Al was a savage but so hilariously funny
He was crazy!!!
Try not to stop in the middle of joke and talk over punchline (you missed some) otherwise enjoyed the reaction..
Okay, thank you
Gen Z Douches: “There’s no room in this world for fat jokes anymore!”
Al Bundy: “Well there would be if you put down the knife and fork once in a while!”
You guys missed half the jokes, because you guys kept pausing, and not going back by now to restart the next joke.
Oddly enough the large ladies wrote Thier own fat jokes for the show. They are comedians.
Lady in store: Excuse me but am I invisible?
Al: Possibly from Pluto.
Me adding: But definitely from Uranus.
Those women where the comics and writers for the show.
I thought it was great! Having two teenage daughters of my own though, I'm not sure I'd want them watching this show. I will say that the older I get, the more I relate to Al Bundy - or Clark Griswold.
the fact you laugh, it proof it's funny...if your first instinct is laughter...you can't cancel that because funny is funny.
This show was a very popular back in the day. Really funny. The insults just kept coming and not a snowflake to be seen. Karens come into his shop complaining and he let's them have it. I loved the ones where Al compares Marcie (the neighbour) to a chicken or a boy.
That wasn't a fat joke. He was implying the chicken she was carrying was her baby.
Girls love your reactions however little bit of advice, choose your times to talk or pause as your missing much of the punchlines or jokes…keep up the good work and look forward to future reactions…….
Thanks for the advice, am very chatty aha.
@@GeorgiaLikeBaker lol I’ve noticed, please don’t take offence to what I said,I just want you to enjoy the whole video/clip you are reacting to 👍👍👍
@@marklee7236 no offence taken, I agree with you aha.
Al pokes fun at Marcy (the neighbour) by calling her chicken because, according to him, she looks and acts like a chicken. So any insult he throws at Marcy is ‘chicken’ related.
