      They're too worried about silly stuff like flat earth, thinking that gender(chromosomes) can change, that "god" is real and such stuff, to even have a humour.

      @foxymetroid 3 роки тому +1

      This show came out when this type of humor was rare on TV. When this show aired, the most controversial other show was The Simpsons. They had to rely on clever writing.
      Nowadays, you have shows that try to get by on crude humor and sexist/ racist insults alone. You get "punchlines" with either poor or nonexistent build-up.
      It's like how Ren and Stumpy got popular because of clever writing, so every other cartoon in the 90s had poop and vomit jokes. Or how South Park used clever writing, so you had shows that tried to be "political" to justify violence and crude humor.

      It is really heart-warming actually, when you watch the show and notice this. Even though the Bundy family always nag and fight and are mean to each other, they still care about each other and won't let anyone hurt their family. They all have moments where they have a chance to do something really selfish, but it would result in severe suffering and pain for 1 or more of their family members, and they always end up choosing to give up their own dreams, to keep sharing the missery with the rest of the family.
      If you think about it, Al has had several chances to cheat on/leave Peg for some pretty attractive women, but he never had the heart the go through with it. That is true love; sharing your pain and missery with the only person who really understands you.

    The show did have a lot of calls and letters from angry Karen's that wanted it canceled but the show went on until like you said. "It ran it's course".The actor that plays Al said it just wasn't fun anymore. Fun fact- The real issue was the conflict caused by the Marcy actor not inviting him to her lesbian wedding. The show was raw but that is what the creators wanted, The working title for the the pilot was "Not the Cosby's". LOL

    You are correct. We live in self-entitled, narcissistic times. If it offends someone, like a child they throw a tantrum until the grown-ups acquiesce. Turning off the channel is too difficult for these adult children. They want their way imposed on everyone else.
    I am glad you guys did this. You also seem like throughly lovable characters yourselves, and would be lots of fun to hang with.

    One of the best shows ever!! It ran for 11 years. You can probably stream it somewhere, but they have the complete set at Walmart.
    The basic premise of the show is; he was a high school football star (the high point in his life was scoring four touchdowns in one game at Polk High), who married a very easy girl after graduation. He never realized his dreams. He has a lazy/selfish wife, and two loser kids (the girls a tramp and the boy couldn't score to save his life). He sells cheap women's shoes for a living and he basically hates his life.

    What made this show work is that they didn't even try to be a normal pleasant suburban family, everyone was messed up in their own way and it just worked beautifully.
