Golden Girls was pretty similar. In the pilot they had a flamboyant Puerto Rican guy but Sofia was so funny that they ditched his character after the first episode. They did have a few episodes with wholesome messages but not many. Most were just meant to be funny. Each character was a lot different than the others and their chemistry is what made it funny.
Married with Children is one of my FAVORITE comedy shows ever. For British comedies, my favorite was "Are You Being Served?" a low-brow common humor show about staff working at a Department store during the 1970s
It's funny how the actress that played Peg Bundy also did the voice for Lela on the animated series Futrarama. Married with Children is returning as an animated series with the original cast doing their character's voices.
Viewing their Christmas episode, "You Better Watch Out" every Christmas, is a family tradition. Their best episode and highly quotable. The title card states "The following depicts a Bundy Christmas. It could be upsetting to small children and others. Parental guidance is suggested." Classic.
They actually tried making a British version of this titled Married for Life, it lasted one 7-episode season. You can find clips from it online, though I haven't found a full episode. Only name in the cast I recongize is Rob Bryden, but I'm American so I don't know British TV personalities too well.
This is the greatest comedy show ever to come out of America - HANDS DOWN. Everyone loved this show - Men, Women - BLACK OR WHITE - IT IS LOVED IN MOST OTHER COUNTRIES ALL OVER THE WORLD. This was America's greatest-ever TV SITCOM. You need to watch - Al Bundy v Marcy - Wonderful
This was my favorite show from back in the day. My favorite Alism was when Peggy thought he was cheating on her. He said "Peg, what have I always told you? Why go out for milk, when you're got a cow at home?"
It's too bad it wasn't a full episode when the females at the cabin all get their periods. I let out a huge guffaw when Bud remarked to Kelly that she squeaked by "another month" (aka she didn't get pregnant).
I love the cabin episode. It’s hilarious! It always cracks me up! The cabin period episode. I love it also because they always did the extra stuff that not too many shows did at the time.
I remember an episode where Al noticed his car was nearing a million miles. His car was an early 1970s Dodge Dart. I believe Fox, who aired Married With Children initially, had a partnership with Daimler-Chrysler (Chrysler now aligned with Fiat). Chrysler offered Al to hit the 1,000,000 mile mark, and the Bundys would win a brand new Dodge Viper. It was called "Get Outta Dodge", and it was released in February of 1994.
I remember every single episode by heart. I remember all falling asleep after staying up so long in his hand accidentally shifted to neutral in the car rolled out of the garage. Hey then said at the end that he was going to come back home until he hits another million, "and then the Viper will be mine! You hear me? Mine, mine, mine!"😅
At the time that "Married: With Children" was made, most American family sitcoms were the type where the father knew best, the mother was wholesome and loving, and the kids occasionally had problems but the family sorted things out by the end of each show. The most typical of these was "The Cosby Show", and "Married: With Children" was originally known as "Not The Cosbys" before it aired. This show was intended to not only be funny, but also to make fun of all those other shows. Also, Ed O'Neill has said that his portrayal of Al Bundy was based on one of his uncles, who was a judge. The way Ed described this uncle was as follows: "My uncle was, like, resigned; life was going to be bad. So it would be, like, he'd get home from work and he'd come in the house and my aunt (his wife) would say, 'Joe, I ran over the dog in the driveway and he's dead,' and Joe would say, 'What's for dinner?' So it was sort of like that."
If you want to know about Ed O'Neil's tough guy background, dealing with mobsters etc., hear him on the Fly On The Wall podcast, which is usually Dana Carvey and David Spade talking with other people with a history with SNL.
I don't recall seeing the episode from which the last clip was taken, but the gas station attendant looks a lot like Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers.
@@johnlovett651 For some reason I vaguely remember a guy from that era who looked like that...but Keidis grew up in LA so it just as well could have been him. Dead ringer!
You that IMDB's rating system is a sham when Married With Children has a lower rating than Modern Family. I mean just look at all those great 90's films, they're 6/10 now. A 6/10 film made today is unwatchable! That's just my rant. The best episodes are the 2 where the family competes in the shopping mart. What an episode that was!
Its too bad the video wasn't 1 minute longer on the last clip. After asking for $2 of gas, the attendant puts the nozzle in and a drop or two of gas comes out (2 drops = $2), lol.
the rumors that Ed and Amanda didn't get along behind the cameras is not true. the cast got along well and even years later had high praise for each other. Additionally, Amanda has be out as gay since she was a young woman, but played a hetro woman on the show so well, that nearly everyone thought she was just hetro.
Ed O Neil was in thearte production when he was approched by a casting agent and told to audition for the role of Al Bundy. If you look at the current generation of everthing going woke this sitcom will have never been made today.
Stop it with that "everything so woke today" crap. They wouldn't have made it then either if it wasn't a totally new network trying to make a name for itself.
Which is why I love that she actually wrote a lot of the jokes for Ed to say to her. Everyone knew Ed was the perfect man for the role. People had thicker skin back then.
Every episode had a loose plot but the side jokes were non-stop. I don't think there was a line of dialogue that wasn't either the set-up or the punch line.
Yes, Ed and Amanda did not get along at all. It really came to a head in Season 3, where they would avoid each other as much as possible.. And it actually got much worse later on in the series when Amanda would start directing some of the episodes. Also, there was bad blood with Ed because he was extremely supportive of Amanda when she came out as a lesbian, yet was never invited to her wedding. It was sadly a very ugly relationship, and they pretty much couldn't stand each other, much like Vivian Vance and William Frawley while doing i Love Lucy.
This was one of the first sitcoms that was just made to be funny, without some underlying wholesome message.
It was made to be the anti Cosby show
And that's aged so well@@SteelyMcBeam420
Good point, Seinfeld is often credited as the first sitcom without a moral compass but Married With Children beat it by 2 years!

All In The Family was very similar and the precursor to Married With Children.

I love the cabin episode. It’s hilarious! It always cracks me up! The cabin period episode. I love it also because they always did the extra stuff that not too many shows did at the time.
"If Al Had a Hammer", "The Ferguson Toilet", "Kelly, the Weather Girl", "No Ma'am", and, "Psycho Dad" were my favorites.

I’m pretty sure all of them got along in real life and that’s why the chemistry was so good

First time seeing your reaction. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the great work.❤🙂
There was show that came on the air late into MWC's run called, 'Unhappily Ever After.' It wasn't bad.
I thought I was the only one who knew about that show!!!😮
I remember they did one season of a modern "Dragnet" that Ed stared in.
You also look at Australia's Agro from Cartoon Connections.
You need to see the two episodes they go to England.
