Been failing at RMUs for months, almost hurt myself a few times. I watched this video and got my first ring muscle up FIRST TRY. unreal. Thanks Craig I'm on the team for life!
Great video with clear, uncomplicated instructions. “Eyes to the sky, then rotate over to look at your shoes” is what I need to transition over. Usually, that split second of explosive energy mentally blocks out all others techniques encountered so far... Your technique is truly effective. Thank you!
As a person who trained himself to do a muscleup at age 55 by looking at photos of it, I can tell you that the MU is a strength move and the best instruction in the world can't make up for missing strength. False grip pullups will give you the strength, videos will give you the technique. Without the strength, there is no muscleup....and that's the bottom line.
I swear it has been 2 weeks of me looking up videos on how to muscle all of which we helpful in their own way but this video simplified and broke it down in the most perfect manner. MINUTES after watching this video I finally go the muscle up and boy I was ecstatic. This video is perfect!
I'm not one to regularly comment on videos. Just received rings from Amazon last week for me and my toddler. I've never been able to do a muscle up on the bar. I watched this video just before bed last night to have the technique fresh in my mind for the next day. I completed my first muscle up on my third try just by following your instructions. Thank you for the lesson.
I just got my first ever RMU today thanks in no small part to this video. I got 2 in 20.5 and want to thank you!! i am 52 years old, so old dog can learn new trick!
I’ve been trying to find a really simple and clear explanation for sometime. Found a lot of progressions that didn’t make much sense. This is by far the clearest and most logical explanation I have come across. Thank you. Looking forward to giving it a go.
Tried it and got my first RMU today. Haven't tried for a while to be honest. Was really great to finally get it. Thanks so much. Could you do a similar video for Bar Muscle-Ups?
Dude! Thank you so much! You’re amazing! After eight months of watching other youtubers make it look easy but still not getting it myself, I just got it thanks to your vid. Sky and shoelaces!
So I got my rings last Saturday and and ring muscle up was one of my first goals. I was finally able to get it today! You're video definitely helped with my process. Thanks for that and keep up the good work!
This of all tutorial videos was the most value one to learn a ringmuscleup I ever saw on youtube. All the time I was strong enough to do it, but I never got the transition right. YOU explained the false grip right! (So much auwchies right now 😂) Thank you so much for this tutorial. I did my first RMU after I saw this video. And I did it again and again and again. If anyone I know wants to learn the RMU, I'll show them this video!
dude I have been getting frustrated with not being able to do a muscle up. Ive tried and tried, I’ve watched a pile of UA-cam videos with no progression. I tried your advice at 4:02 with looking to the sky and then shoe laces and it worked first try! Thank you so much!! New sub!!
Watched this last night because of 20.5 announcement. Did the warm ups that you described before the workout this morning, finally got my first ring muscle up this morning!!! Thank you so much!!!
It's great stumbling upon different videos, you learn new tips and tricks and I have to say this video is really good, I will try that technique tomorrow
The cues on this are GOLD. I used this and even using the Row cue and "sky then shoelaces" cue, I landed 2 strict ring muscle ups after not being able to do them at all. Cheers Craig!
This is in my opinion one of the best "tutorials" I've seen. Don't get me wrong I have a lot of work to do before I can do an actual muscle up but this break down was a absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much!
You guys ROCK! Absolutely LOVE your in depth, technical CF knowledge, but with the crazy-awesome ability to articulate the “how” and “why” for guys like me. Keep rockin’ The awesome content... I may be an average Joe masters guy, but you two are always an inspiration with your “can do - never quit - ever positive” outlook on everything... LOVE IT... and Thank you.
I just wanted to say thanks for this video you help me to achieve my first muscle up on March 5. I first attempted it on February 2 but I had no idea on what a false grip was lol but now I’ve mastered the technique and now I’m up to 6 clean full range muscle ups in a row. Thank you 👏🔥💪🏾
Of all the videos on how to do a ring muscle up... this one is the one that helped me get my first muscle up today! Getting that first muscle up is the most amazing euphoric feeling ever! Liked and subscribed!... it’s the least I could do.
Yesterday I achieved my very first MU, after 2 days of practicing. Not a real kip ( so no L-swing and straight arm raise ) but high knee raise. However I have something to build on now! I have weak wrists, cant wait to strengthen them with these excercises and eventually a strict ring MU. Greetings and much love from a Belgian crossfit-enthousiast
That was great! I would have been wildly happy. Your buddy was very controlled. Not me. But I'm 65. I'm going after it though. Thank you very much. I'd love to see more instructional and progressive videos.
Got my first RMU after watching this video first time with just making a few changes and drilling the technique you demonstrated for a couple minutes was amazed how easy it was Thanks 👌👌
Thanks man for your transition idea worked like a butter in the first attempt... Now that's a perfect way to teach somebody... "Master". Lots of videos but nobody explained it like this. Until this video I thought rig muscle up was like black belt level but now with your technique it was like drinking water. I am mindblown seriously. Appreciate a lot. 🙏
Hadn’t hit a muscle up for almost a year when I thought back to this video and the tips. Can now say 2 consecutive weeks been able to hit them!, Thanks man
Thanks brother, really good demo , a no nonsense approach, I still can’t do it though . I’m 55 but I’m going to archive this this week , will let you know how I got on 😎
Im so excited ...I think I might be able to finally make a full muscle up after watching this video..I mean I watched 100 of vids ..but this one made so clear..y was doing the whole thing wrong, row pull, follow the chest line...ok...makes sense perfecto.. thanks
Just stumbled across this video (thank you algorithm). I have recently been trying to RMU and I keep hitting a wall halfway up. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I am still working on muscle up on a bar, but I have really problems in pulling towards the chest instead of my chin. I'd wish there was a similar video for that, cause this guy really drove home the mechanics of the technique.
Tried it and I did my first RMU after watching your video on a first try :) thank you. The advice to look at the sky and then on the ground helped me the most.
I just muscled up after watching this video!!!! I got it on video too, 3 times! I can planche on bars, and some other decent exercises but, I just got rings, and have been training push pull for a bit... but couldn’t muscle up! Watched this vid, tried it, did it!!!! Thanks for teaching me the form! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 P.S I learned it by sitting on the floor, setting the rings to reach up, and doing what he said to learn the technique. Pull up, trace, look up, look down etc
This is a GREAT tutuorial. I've been tying to get the muscle-up with kipping instead of starting with strict. I'll give this a crack later today! (PS - it's "cues" not "queues") :-)
Your tutorial is great ! The first "something in 5 mins" tutorial I have watched that actually works if you have the basic strength required. I would say that the requirements are about 6 clean ring pull ups and 6 clean deep ring dips.
Well done! I'm competing in the granite games and have been learning crossfit for only 3 weeks now. Tomorrow I'll be rewatching this to learn ring muscle ups for workout #5. Thank you so much!
Awesome Job Ben & great coaching, I’ve never been able to get a strict MU, just Kipling. I’ll probably watch this 💯 times and send you a video of my 1st strict MU 🙏🏾
Really good tips on muscle ups... That tip about looking up and bringing the hips up into it and tracing the pecks... Then looking at the feet. I think those are the things i was missing
Best tutorial I seen so far, great queues and hints! EDIT: OMG WTF!! I just tried it and got it first try after watching your video and applying the tips lmao! Tried before with many failed attempts, I've always had the pulling and dipping strength, also recently working my false grip but the transition never worked for me. What really helped was thinking "row" instead of "pullup", and "tracing the ribs" Thank you!
Brilliant video. One of your best! More teaching please! I’m interested to learn more technique with the pvc pipe you talked about from your level 1 course. I think I need this. My front rack is bad and pretty sure it’s all down to bad mobility
Been failing at RMUs for months, almost hurt myself a few times. I watched this video and got my first ring muscle up FIRST TRY. unreal. Thanks Craig I'm on the team for life!
I've been trying to do a strict muscle up almost everyday and finally was able to do one today from watching this! Happy happy happy
Great video with clear, uncomplicated instructions. “Eyes to the sky, then rotate over to look at your shoes” is what I need to transition over. Usually, that split second of explosive energy mentally blocks out all others techniques encountered so far... Your technique is truly effective. Thank you!

Back two years later and still the best tutorial on UA-cam. Thank you!
You are the Mann, This is truly the best instructional video on UA-cam about on the muscle up
I swear it has been 2 weeks of me looking up videos on how to muscle all of which we helpful in their own way but this video simplified and broke it down in the most perfect manner. MINUTES after watching this video I finally go the muscle up and boy I was ecstatic. This video is perfect!

Get it that’s awesome
This is the clearest explanation of the false grip I’ve seen on this website, thank you.
I have watched several video tutorials. You are the first to deliver an intelligible, sensible and humble approach, and I thank you sir. 🙏🏼
I’ve been trying to find a really simple and clear explanation for sometime. Found a lot of progressions that didn’t make much sense. This is by far the clearest and most logical explanation I have come across. Thank you. Looking forward to giving it a go.
Great tip to keep the hips up and not to think of it as a pull up. Exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Tried it and got my first RMU today. Haven't tried for a while to be honest. Was really great to finally get it. Thanks so much.
Could you do a similar video for Bar Muscle-Ups?

Good work ! I did my first ring MU at 54 years old and in good form. It's a skill like anything else and the false grip is the key
Not the first false grip tip I’ve seen but the karate chop was how I needed to hear it! Can’t wait to try 👊 ❤️ 💍

Ben Mudge
Wow that’s really good dude!
I recognize this place
Nice tip with the row instead of thinking it as a pullup! Gonna save me in 18.3. Thanks mate!
