Didnt here not one emphasis on the fundamental value of pull ups in order to progressively perform the movement without use of momentum or kipping. 3 minutes top and a first timer with the strength up and over the bar, just have to SHOW them
+Kevin Partridge I don't recommend even trying muscle ups until you have at least 10-15 clean pullups. That indicates they have the strength to start attempting it.
I can do muscle ups but the form really determines whether or not you're building you're upper body. If I swing a lot I imagine that I could do at least 15. With slight swinging I can do around 8, but consistently with as little use of momentum as possible I can do only 4. The kipping works fine if you're doing cardio, but it just seems silly to me.
Yeah for sure next level is reducing the kip. I am awe of those athletes who appear to glide up from hanging position to top of the bar in one move. That is a literal muscle up requiring big power not relying on the weight transfer timing of the gymnastics kip.
I was in traditional gymnastics (horizontal bar, parallel bars), so I understand that the movements for each sport are different, but the term "gymnastics" means to display physical agility and coordination. Crossfit does borrow a gymnastics move (kip) to perform a strength movement faster over time. Of course we teach strict pull-ups as a strength move, but the kip is used as part of a workout when you're up against the clock. Again, why the hate? There are ego-filled athletes in all sports, including gymnastics, but I don't judge the sport based on the behavior of a few.
@@LarsRyeJeppesen Crossfit doesn't call a 'kipping pull-up' a strict pull-up, but I assure you that many ego heads in the gym will kip with their legs and call it a strict pull-up. +Cody sansbury Exactly. What's the purpose of bounced muscle-ups? We may as well put a trampoline under the feet and jump up off this to make muscle-ups easier. We may also swing our body so much that we can do muscle-ups from the horizontal position of our body, then's it's easier. If we want to get real strength and muscles, we have to do muscle-ups with no tricks.
Patrick Piazza No no no, muscle-ups for reps don't have to be slow! You may do it fast, because fast reps also build mass and strength, but also explosive strength, what don't build slow muscle-ups. Swinged and bounced muscle-ups are not the real test of strengh, they just shows your skills at the bar.

1st part has some great fundamentals to work on (hollow, point toes, squeeze, superman). 3rd part shows some pretty good bar muscle ups. Guess I missed the 2nd part where you get huge. Guess I'll hit part 3 after I can do 100lb weighted strict pull ups.
There are 2 different types of muscle up. Kipping and strict. A strict one does indeed show greater strength. A kipping one does show mastery however, because you are achieving the same end goal using half if not less the strength. In other words, a strict one is for brute strength and show. Whereas a kipping one is for efficiency, which is what crossfit is all about.
i found out while learning these, a slight swing helps, nd when you break at the hips by kicked the feet more vertical it generates more vertical momentum rather than transfering the direction of power by pulling the kipping swing which takes alot of strength from the grip back nd lats along with the rest of the body as a whole. these are tips i rarely hear of but have helped me the most

Matt Williams Kipping is one of the earliest skills gymnasts learn as it's used to get you into position to do other more advanced moves. It's used most on high bar (uneven bars for girls), parallel bars, and can be used on rings. robert chalmers Apparently you don't understand muscle efficiency. This movement still recruits muscle and a lot of it. Why don't you pick up a book with physiology in the title and read a few chapters. Then you might understand what is actually happening. If no muscle is used and it is pure momentum then the heavy the individual the easier the movement but that isn't how physiology works is it? Spoiler alert when you pick up that book.
Ok. just want to give my input here. Sick and tired of people discussing form on these videos. It all depends on what your after. I messed my back up in a car accident some years ago and went from being able to do 15 Pullups preaccident to being able to do none after. Doing strict pullups didnt work since my back muscles locked up and cramped on me. Doing these kinds of pullups and muscle ups got me back on track. Now I do strict pullups in the beginning of the work out and finish off with butterflies. Same thing with muscle ups. Do them like this until your muscles has adapted. Then practice strict ones. Murphy Out.
This is one of the best muscle up explanation. The only issue with the video is explaining where arch position needs to be in relation to vertical support bar. I finally got muscle ups when I was able to get my arch position in front of the vertical support bar. I noticed all the effortless muscle ups each athlete had their entire arch in front of the bar including feet. This puts the body in the optimal position angle during the hollow position with kip.

It truly amazes me why people who hate Crossfit and think all the movements are easy and cheating etc, come and watch the videos. I can't think of anything in life I hate, but I still choose to constantly do it. And before you say why are you reading the comments? It's because I do like it and like to discuss it with like minded people. If you don't like this, why can't you go watch power lifting videos or bodybuilding, American Ninja, gymnastics or whatever you're into. It is truly fascinating to me!!!
Because these movements are easy. The point of working out is to gain muscle. This exercise uses little to no muscles at all. All you're doing is swinging and using momentum. If you want to see REAL muscle ups, check out Kali Muscle.
+Kenai A thanks for making my point. If you are watching Kali Muscle videos, you are in the wrong place. And you are saying these movements are easy because of experience, or because you watched them and decided they are easy. Additionally, there are more reasons than to "gain muscle" when working out: some people do it for mobility, quickness, efficiency, cardio etc. There is more to being healthy and life than strictly building muscle. But, I did take your advice and watched a Kali Muscle video on the bar muscle...and yes, everyone on of them I saw him do, he did a variation of a kip. The deeper he got into the set the closer his hips got to the bar...and after 10-15 he was so winded he could hardly talk. So if you want to learn how to survive in Prison (his words) or how to yell and challenge people on exercising, he is definitely the way to go. I'll stick to videos that are instructional. But again, feel free to never press play on anything that says Cross Fit on it.
I did crossfit. I was able to do a MU beforehand and honestly I learned watching ppl do it. Honestly there's nothing to it but to do it. I learned strict form only.

Why don't you pick up a book with physiology in the title and read a few chapters. Then you might understand what is actually happening. If no muscle is used and it is pure momentum then the heavy the individual the easier the movement but that isn't how physiology works is it? Spoiler alert when you pick up that book.
Money ups
That’s why it’s called a kipping genius
Hi I did a banded bar muscle up on my channel could you give me some tips on how to get better
My goals are the crossfit games thanks x
Hello beautiful mam.
Ok. just want to give my input here.
CALISTHENICS>>>>>>>>crossfit

"This is the most common place we see breakage in crossfit"
But, I thought that was deadlifting?
Absolutely love how he issues commands and she responds instantly. The way she looks up at him, just like training my dog. Absolute adoration for her master 🐩 Up! Good girl!
he looks like Frank Lampard slightly
Didn't know Steve Carell was a crossfit instructor
U read my mind !
Daniel Rodriguez del Villar Trimarchi b

Kevin Johnstone kinda... :/
I did crossfit. I was able to do a MU beforehand and honestly I learned watching ppl do it. Honestly there's nothing to it but to do it. I learned strict form only.
Girl in green top has amazing legs
Doing bar muscle-ups, strict or otherwise, is a great way to get shoulder impingement. Strict ring muscle ups are best.
i feel like if this was my cf coach i would be really irritated haha
this is the prefect teacher in the world thank you very mush
Steve Carell coaches Crossfit?
+Mark Vogt think the same LOL
+Mark Vogt why does this not have more upvotes
Good Teacher This.....

Great teaching!
Why do you hate crossfiters and their techniques???? Crossfiters dont criticize anyone other sports.
Dario Velez cuz crossfit is a retarded form of cardio.
+Tim Kim right. Because crossfitters get huge just doing cardio. Get a clue man.

You right
Dario Velez Because they fucking suck.
Am I a hero for teaching these lads how to do a muscle up? I really can't say, but yes
Michael Scott repping Crossfit
I've been trying to get the muscle up for a while now. Only successfully got up once without swinging but I'm too inconsistent.
Aquí está el comentario en español que estabas buscando

I think I might have to do some Crossfit training first...
+Wulf actually it's two days and a thousand dollars and you have to reserve a spot in the seminars :(
Dusty is right. Abdominal and CORE is important in every sport. We have found that for muscle ups there is a very EASY way to learn the MUSCLE UP. It's on our channel and we show a 50 year old guy who does 20 MUSCLE UPS using this SECRET technique. Actually, we also do heaps of Abs and Core and Chin Ups and Dips. Check it out.
