      @@billcarson9565 I think so, yeah, but unless they can spit acid (They can in some games, not movie canon tho) theres nothing they can actually do.
      Xenos will try to rapt people most of the times, they RARELY straight up murder someone (Hive scene doesnt count, who wouldnt fuck up someone coming into your house and trying to still your wifes? [Reference to people being used for reproductive porpouses] )
      So rapting the t800 aint an option, so eventually they will learn to attack them on sight, but theres nothing actually they can do.... Unless impaling the t800 core cell straight with its tail, but thats also a win for a t800 due to the core cell being a little NUKE.
      Unless its a 1v1, then its a tie.
      T800s are more durable, it wont back down from its target unless comanded to (Unlike aliens, whom have some kind of inteligence, this being proven by them learning to not go straight to a machine gun fire gallery in Aliens 1986.) T800s are stronger, and better equiped for combat.... It aint a fair fight honestly

      The subsequent portion of the movie may be pretty wicked and perhaps kind of awesome (the xenomorph queen, some of her guard xenomorphs, the whole alien queen's nest, and all), but it is also ridiculous and basically absurd. Nobody in their right mind would decide to venture into the depths of the colony and the alien nest, and so very easily, so clearly, plus so very obviously greatly risk his or her personal life, simply to hopefully rescue a little girl of whom the person has not at all gotten to know particularly well and of whom has already been handily abducted by the xenomorphs. But it is a movie, and a great and classic movie, and the whole portion of Ripley venturing into the depths of the colony and well-into the alien nest is rather wicked and awesome, at the same time, nonetheless. Great sci-fi, action, and basically horror.

    People tend to give Ripley the credit, but Bishop is hands-down the hero of this movie. He willingly went out and flew the ship down. He could have escaped by himself. He could have told Ripley "too bad" and left without Newt. He gladly straps in and helps knowing the odds are against survival. Without him, everyone dies. Ripley kicks the hornet's nest needlessly, as everything was going to die anyway, and Bishop alone pays the price for her recklessness. He's the real MVP.

      While he is a Synthetic, he is a fully realised virtual artificial intelligence with the equivalent of 'moods'.
      There was to a be a scene where a xeno detects Bishop through an open or broken section of the access crawlway, the xeno can't sense him once he stops moving and seems to stare right at Bishop before moving on. The scene was to show Bishop staring wide eyed, pursed lipped, his situational processors working overtime as he stares back at the xeno waiting to be grabbed. The scene was intended to show Bishop exhibiting his equivalent of fear.
      That particular Bishop model was designed as an operations assistant and technician for Marine operations and has the logic, intelligence, and 'personality' to handle quickly evolving situations. He is limited in emotion, but he does have them in a sense. Lance did well to give a smirk, scowl, surprised look, concentration, and thoughfulness to a very advanced synthetic model.
      In one of the Comics a sythetic named Edith cries out in rage as xenomorphs attack 'her' humans, who she has the equivalent of 'affections for', Edith attempts to intervene and is torn apart by the Xenos.

    Notice how, until that last shot of the 2nd drop ship flying thru the atmosphere processor, all of the effects are practical. Rear projection and models, no optical printing (until the last one).
    Notice how much better the practical stuff looks. Optical printing was a revolution in special effects, but it still always had an unrealistic, almost stop-motion look to it.
    The practical effects look 100% real. Cameron knew this, which is why he used it so much!

    • @PeachLover94
      @PeachLover94 Рік тому +1

      Yeah, chemical-based optical printing for visual effects from _The Ten Commandments_ (1956) onward was janky as hell due to black matte lines and having to get frames lined up exactly to combine elements into a composite until minicomputer alignment and digital compositing came along..
      That's why on a lot of Derek Meddings' effects-featuring movies such as _Moonraker_ (1979) for the outer space sequences, they tried multiple exposures so to wind back the film in the camera magazine to start so they could put a new element on top of the old ones so you didn't get as many matte lines or garbage matte boxes.
      For the multiple exposure process, you might first...
      1) The painted background starfield (black painted on glass with holes backlit to represent stars)
      2) Rewind the film in the camera magazine to leader to film and place the planet Earth or maybe the Moon on top
      3) Rewind the film back again to photograph an element like a space station and so on for a space shuttle
      4) Lather, rinse and repeat for floating astronauts, explosions, laser bolts, or other elements.
      Time consuming, of course, but less degradation of the film negatives and their elements when compositing.

    • @Gattberserk
      @Gattberserk 3 місяці тому +2

      They are out in the open space, they need to find a safe place to hide and confine before they can continue the call for the ship. Another point is that Bishop was not with them when the dropship crashed. Hudson was sure they were trapped when the APC transmitter was wasted.
      The only flaw I can find is that they talk about staying the perimeter for 17 days to hold out when they can actually align the dish and call the 2nd dropship. There is no need to hold out for 17 days lol. In fact if they have realized that earlier and seal Bishop outside rather than inside the complex, they would have escape way before the aliens could ambushed them.

    • @PointReflex
      @PointReflex 10 місяців тому

      @@stormcrow33 To be honest, her "wait here while I go for Newt" idea was beyond bollocks considering the situation. They only had 17 minutes left, Ripley had to travel back into the reactor, navigate an area she didn't knew all to well, while surviving the constant electrical failure and explosions everywhere, then pray that the Xenomorphs didn't chew her ass and only then find Newt. Of course, she had to do all twice in a row without a single mistake.
      She risked the lifes of the very fiew survivors just to save one little girl that would be insta-killed in 17 minutes anyway, so there was no posibility of her suffering the chest bursting process.
      So when I saw Alien 3 (theatrical cut) I was kinda, "ok, they deserve this" becasue for all intents and porpuses Ripley's plan only succeded because the plot removed every real threat in her way, if any other marine would have been sent in the same mission, he/she would have been eaten away faster than Burke, period.
      You might see this as an "heroic move" from her, but every time I watch the following scenes I am like "anyone else would have been killed 100 times in a row already."

    The only thing that didn't blow me away about this movie was the drop ship when I first saw it I felt a wave of disappointment I guess it was the way it was designed. It was very close to what I had built as a model and flown and in no way could you reenter the atmosphere with it. If you notice they don't talk about their technology and propulsion. you cant cross light years of space with rocket engines even with suspended animation. Not enough fuel and you would come back several generations later.

    • @LandersWorkshop
      @LandersWorkshop 4 роки тому +14

      The Sulaco you mean? That doesn't use rocket propulsion.
      Sulaco, IIRC uses some sort of nuclear detonation propulsion IIRC which is super-fast once it gets up to speed. No good for launching from planets, but Sulaco lives in space where radiation effects are minimal.
      The dropship uses fusion propulsion drive which drives a set of turbines and thrusters but for space it transitions to plasma fuel (plasma only works in a vaccume). This is had almost limitless power in atmosphere. I think Syd Mead designed the concepts and look of them both.

      @trueaspect5888 3 роки тому +5

      I remember reading years ago, in this fictional time line they had discovered 'faster the light' communications and FTL travel as well. The biggest plot hole for me was always that there was no crew or even one android left on board the Sulaco, I understand this is the space age that relied on automation but when they went down to the surface they were at the mercy of the comm links on the APC/drop ship and if anything happened to that they had to hope the link at the complex was operational. All of that risk easily mitigated by adding an extra crew to the ship to stay on board encase of emergency but i totally understand the plot needed this to build the drama for the ultimate escape.
