Aliens- Combat Drop Alternate Version
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 січ 2012
- This is a re-edited version of the combat drop sequence from Aliens, using an unused track from composer James Horner's score for the film. The alternate music begins around 2:30. In order to make the music fit, I had to cut out Hudson's rant about superior firepower, but everything else is the same.

I just realised, Michael Biehn's character 'Hicks' in Aliens has a thing for Ripley, who is roughly 60 years his senior, as she was in Cryosleep for 57 years . Michael Bien's character in Terminator, 'Kyle Reece' has a relationship with Sarah Connor, who is 40 years older than him as he went back in time. Dude has a serious thing for cougars!!!!
Ripley reminds Hicks of his dead wife Rachael. Go read the Aliens: Bug Hunt short stories.
But you should admit that as for the 80+ years old granny Ripley looks great

Fun fact: Private Vasquez, the "tough guy" female soldier, is also in the Titanic movie, playing the famous but unnamed role of the ginger-haired Irish mother who reads a bedtime story to her kids as the ship sinks. She was also John Conners foster mother in T2 and later briefly was the T-1000 after he took over her body.
Is it weird that I think she's hot in this movie 😂

what I loved about this movie is that although Ripley is the main character, they didn't over-focus on her. They allowed all the supporting side characters to develop their specific arcs. We got to see each character's attributes, attitudes, and personalities. As the movie progressed, Ripley's role progressed. Really good bit of storytelling.
she was not a Mary Sue like they do with all female characters now. It really shows you when politics takes over writing, the movie usually sucks
When Cameron was at it's peak of directing and action movies and storytelling!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
that's pretty much the case of all James Cameron films.
And they didn't have to shoehorn some Mary Sue female hero. She just was one!
That's because a fair few of the actors in the movie were pretty successful as well in their own right.

I've got mad respect for Lance Henriksen in general, too. He had a first grade education and was completely illiterate until he was in his 30s. Only then did he learn to read. IIRC he's also severely dyslexic which didn't help.

No CGI makes it look so raw and realistic. I love the way that the realism just jumps out at you. The models and the sets make it look amazing. I wish they still made movies like this, and not with all that other junk.

I came here from the video being on my recommendation list.
Gotcha! That makes sense considering the new Alien trailer being released. Thanks!
Yep. CGI even today is still a considerable step back compared to good sets & modeling by hand.
Man I absolutely love the "tech" in this movie. It so 80's cyberpunk, dirty, weathered and practical.
the transport "car" and its interior designs is just so damn beautiful
Its the ultimate RV to take to a drive in screening of Indy 5 you could put a few more holes in the script.
I remember before the film was released, reading an interview with Cameron, where he stated how important it was to make everything look 'used'.
Absolutely !
I'd argue that it's not cyberpunk, which tends to go for style over substance when it comes to tech. The 'military' aspect of the production design took precedence over the 'sci fi' aspect, and the result was futuristic military stuff that looked much more grounded than a lot of other SF military gear. Cyberpunk movies, games and other media seem to prefer military gear that was made to look and sound futuristic, without regard to practicality.
@@mattrobson3603 I recall some of the concept art by Sid Mead, which was way more sci-fi looking, with the Sulaco being more globe-shaped, the dropship was more like a flying wing and the APC would dock into a notch in the bottom of the dropship, becoming part of the fuselage. It all looked really cool, but really didn't fit the grounded look Cameron was going for
Sometimes I just admire how good the sets were on this film. Absolutely nailed it, vehicles, props, costumes and set dressing, really transports you.
And sound design
I never would have guessed Vasquez is the same actress who plays John's step mum in T2
And the Irish mom of two kids in 3rd class in Titanic. She told them that the 1st class had to get off first....
Oh my lord I was today years old when I found this out.

i was thinking ths same!!
I swear I prefer these type of effects over most of the stuff they make today. Simplistic yet extremely effective. This movie is just a classic on so many levels.
Yep... it also means they focus on plot and characters. Most modern sci-fi films have extended fight or action sequences that are frankly boring because they are just special effects - very clever but just not engaging.
There is a realistic feel when miniatures are used effectively as opposed to the common artificial lighting of cgi goo smeared all over the screen.
it's easier to do it on a computer programme :/ Star wars...
Yep, exactly. They had to think of every aspect of these complex scene wnhen today, the only answer you need for anything is CG....
@@stephaneneron the only real use imo of CGI is for safety reasons or to enhance stuff. More practical the better just don't kill people irl. (Like Twilight Zone, Rust, The Crow... mostly preventable if people were smart and safe but.. history shows us the opposite.)

Always made me laugh, how Apone is riling them up all the way to the APC, then immediately scolding them to settle down. Superb film, loved Hudson's diatribe on how safe Ripley is, with the weapons list starting with 'City friers' and ending in "sharp sticks" 😆

The beginning cinematic of Halo the video game is pretty much this
A lot of these cliches do go back to Frank Herbert's "Dune" from 1965 & Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" from 1959. For example, the space marines & mecha, like the ones you see here in Aliens (and other movies such as Avatar 2009 & computer games such as Halo) basically came from Starship Troopers 60 years ago. Star Wars got many ideas from Dune. Alien/Aliens is just one of many movies that has helped propagate those old sci-fi ideas, tropes & stereotypes that were born in the 1950's & earlier.
Other movies might have ripped off Aliens, but Aliens is a complete ripoff of the 1958 movie "It The Terror From Beyond Space".

My old VHS tape had to be thrown away because I watched it over 100 times. I was happy when it was released on DVD and Bluray disc. I saw the movie at the cinemas three times in one weekend in 1986.
Will always be one of greatest sci fi action movies of all time
I can't tell you how many times I've seen this movie.
Such a badass scene to a badass movie. We don't get movies like this anymore. It's fucking sad.
I agree Hollywood has run out of ideas so they are remaking the 80s movies and the Disney movies in live action . Leave our 80s movies alone Hollywood. Leave a classic alone
@Vlodec Dredd was good. Real good. But I can still watch Alien and Aliens, all day all week. Dredd? Not so much.
I get the feeling it's like a modern manned mission to the moon. Too expensive by today's standards. To make a movie with live props like this would probably cost a billion to make. Ain't nobody got time for that!
They'll be back, and in greater numbers.
Mad Max Fury Road tickles the shelf in which Aliens is perched upon. You're correct. There's very little practicality to movies these days. It's all money grab, and whatever the Rock can fit his ass into.
Alongside terminator 2 this was truly some of james Cameron's finest work.
One of the greatest films ever made to this day
Absolutely.
Oh Absolutely! Edge of your seat suspense.
5 by 5!
Terminator 1 was ground breaking too
Kyle Reese and John Connor's foster mother only add to it, LOL:)))
Sgt Apone’s actor, Al Matthews (RIP) was an actual Marine Sgt adding to the realism of his character. He actually led the actors as if he was a real CO. He had a purple heart and was in Vietnam.
An excellent movie, still worth a watch
'Alien' was an out and out masterpiece. 'Aliens' was a masterpiece on steroids'!!
True.. I wish to one day see them pick up right after Aliens, with Ripley, Hicks and Rebecca in the lifeboat (at this point I would be fine with recasting, even though I wanted to see Sigourney to kick ass one last time again so much. (Thanks Ridley!) But there are no movies of this quality nowadays. They took time to suck you in (remember the first few minutes of ALIEN 1979? No words for a very long time, just camera panning, tasting every carefully weathered surfaces, hard and cold, soft and hot). The director achieved visual masterpiece (I guess, thanks Ridley!), a piece of cinematographic art. I have the feeling Hollywood does not care about art anymore. The movies nowadays are products to be consumed by customers, their content strictly defined by marketing department, people infected by politics, business strategists.....all but true ARTISTS. People with unending passion for their work, exceptional talents who crave to show their stories in a new and bold way. Not to satisfy KPI's or shareholders, but for the sake of creating art, part of culture which will be remembered for decades.
The remarkable part was back to back masterpieces, in DIFFERENT GENRE's really.
Alien was a sci-fi HORROR masterpiece.
Aliens was a sci-fi ACTION masterpiece.
Agreed! ZOUNDS!
Let’s celebrate, with your permission!
@@freighttrain7143 Exactly! 😎👍
Nothing can touch Alien. Aliens isn't even in the same class although it is a masterpiece itself.
36 years later and that pulse rifle is still sooo badass 💥💥
Only thing is they went with just a handful of troops. In reality, you'd have at least 100 men. I'd have a battalion.
I can't wait for Hasbro to release the M41A as a blaster in a couple of months...
@@charleswest6372 yea, never understood why so few. I thought the company also wanted to study Xenos so surprised they didn't send a whole Xeno capture team as well. probably about the weakest thing in the plot imho. I mean if they brought Ridley they believed Ripley and they knew the Xenos will be there especially with all the data from Alien 1 they retrieved from Mother computer and also bringing Ripley would have never happened in the first place because the company knew she would just destroy the Xeno anyway. so it all never really made sense to me. I just enjoy the movie now and not think about the plot holes :)
Not as badass as the Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 Watt Range
@@funwithflags4539 Hey, just what you see, pal!
A timeless masterpiece in movie making!
I don't know why I like watching this video over and over again.
This movie was so ahead of it's time in 1986 and in a lot of ways it still is!
The stupid music in this scene shows how easily a great movie can become Cringe-inducingly bad. James cameron always made the best calls
Back then we just took movies like this for granted, we assumed they would keep coming and logically movies could only get better. How naive we were
Vasquez, yowza
Hard to believe that this was done in 1986.
In 2023 I am amazed 😊
@@MB-rt9dq Aliens 3 ruined this movie for me. I was hoping for a war, and ended up seeing nothing but a coverup.
I absolutely love the dropship pilot with the oversized aviators on her little head, and even more so knowing that the character inspired the Star Craft dropship voice acting.
Not to mention how much HALO was "inspired" by this movie. (inspired or "ripped off" if you are feeling uncharitable)

I'll never get tired of Ferro's almost bored expression as she flies into an alien planet's tempestuous atmosphere. What a professional. The actress killed this small role.
It's interesting no matter how much time passes. timeless masterpiece.
It’s incredible how well they nailed the “Marine Grunt” vibe.
Having the guy who played the sergeant be an actual retired marine sergeant was smart
"Marine grunt"...
Sounded more like a feminine moan.
This film made me want to join the Corps.
They also spend months together to get that feeling according to the trivia section
Game over man!
Great movie, great cast. Favorite bit is where Ripley tells Hudson the little girl survived longer than that (you know the scene). Hudson replies 'Why don't you put her in charge'. Okay, writers give you the lines, but the actor has to make them work. Paxton was a talent. RIP.
When "Game over!" was still a thing.
Bill Paxton was a superb actor. Calling something underrated is too cheap nowadays, it's lost its meaning so I will instead suggest that his performances were often underappreciated by audiences. My guess is that his fellow cast members felt very safe and comfortable knowing he would bring his A game.
Yeah, seen an aliens interview where he mentions always being cast as the "jerk" role. He said that one day he would be the leading, good guy...
@@frankbredenholler8209 He was. In Twister, starring opposite Helen Hunt, and he was great in it.
I was 16 when I saw this film for the first time. Now I’m 52 and I still love it so much that I have to rewatch it at least twice a year. Alien and Aliens are two masterpieces that pass the test of time.
This is one of the most badass scenes ever filmed. Absolutely bad ass. Get Some Today! 💪🏼
What really makes this edit so good is that the upbeat, adventurous tone makes you feel like these unbeatable marines are off to save the day and get some. it makes their resulting massacre even more shocking.
Such a great movie, they don't make them like this anymore.
@@tonivanlaar9596 They need the CGI. Ripley cleaning Newts face with chocolate is better than the entire Avengers Endgame movie.

That sleeping bit was the most realistic part of this whole movie. Learning both how to take a nap at short-notice, and that one *should* get some sleep at every opportunity, was two big lessons. Good to see that this hasn't changed in the 80's version of the future.
Preparing & practicing for the face huggers , lol !!!
the man, Al Matthews, who played Sergeant Apone was a sergeant in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was awarded 2 purple hearts. so he probably suggested it.
And it indirectly showed how good their pilot was when he knew he could catch some ZZZ's without worrying about the drop ship crashing
Eat when you can, sleep when you can…
@@Wayouts123 And keep yer gawdamned socks dry.
I wish that they would re-release this movie here in 2023! I am positive that it would still kick ass at the box office.
Hicks being asleep on the ride down is one of the first clues that he's gonna be great help to Ripley getting out.
Love the shot of Hicks sleeping while everyone else is nervous as hell.
Thats mean he was really nervous too
@@miguelantonioalbrechtalba5426 It means the exact opposite, he wasn't nervous at all. It's showing that he's a battle tested marine and has been to combat many times so he isn't worried like everyone else.
@@muccmaster could be, during my time in the service I saw that kind of behavior.
@@miguelantonioalbrechtalba5426 Also have we considered that Hicks sleeping shows that Hicks is utilizing his time well? As a Marine he knows there's no guarantee of sleep until the mission is finished, so he uses the drop as a power nap session. At the point where he says they're all "in strung out shape, but stay frosty," he seems to be the only one still alert. He even advises Ripley to get some sleep as well, telling her she'll need it. I laugh everytime at the line "Somebody wake up Hicks" but I think that scene shows how experienced a Marine Hicks is.
@@mish375 Once, and many years ago I ask about this matter to a psicólogist and he explain that this kind of behavior is a clear signal of "being on the verge",so in my experience show the both faces.

When the game HALO came out, the Bungie development team admitted to borrowing heavily from this masterpiece and it shows. The dropship in ALIENS became the Pelican dropship in HALO.
And the seargent became Avery Johnson.

Apone:"LETS SHAKE IT"!
This is one of the very few future sci fi movies where the soldiers actually feel like real soldiers
Not in this alternate scene. This take seems written and directed by some one who's never spent any time around military folks.
Well the Actor who played Stg. Apon was a legit Marine Corp. Sargent. And over-look the military Protocols and Drills.
All that running and yelling when they load on the drop ship - and drop - pretty much - no. The impression I've gained is that they're mostly quiet and mentally focused on their jobs. Hicks falling asleep - it probably the most realistic.
The chatter by the air crew is OK.
The other thing is - they show these guys chambering rounds before they board the drop ship. That is typical Hollywood. You would not want to chamber a round until you were about to land because an accidental discharge could have a negative effect on the drop. How negative would depend on what it hit - but - putting a hole in a space ship when you don't have enclosed helmets and space suits - would not be a good thing. Being in an APC you might not have a penetration of the drop ship - but - if the round didn't penetrate the APC - it might just bounce around inside it - which would also not be a good thing.
.
@@BobSmith-dk8nw There are definitely Hollywood aspects to it so it's not 100% true to what I'd expect in the real world, but it's definitely a huge improvement to those movies where someone's running around in a spandex suit with no gear and with no real organized team tactics firing a laser pistol.
@@hoppy6437 I didn't mention that this is a very good film. So - my remarks about it's inaccuracies are just for the purpose of pointing out when something is Hollywood rather than real.
You're always going to have problems with reality in a movie like this - because - it's in the script that the unit will be destroyed by the Aliens - the only question is - how are they going to do it.
As good as this movie is - and I really liked it - this operation was set to fail from the get go - when they only assigned one squad to it. That - and the idea that there was no crew to their space ship was absurd.
Here - the Aliens are represented as an unstoppable force - when they were not really all that tough. On the Nostromo - in _Alien_ - their acid based blood was a problem in that it could eat through the ship - but then - all the crew had to do was don space suits and blow the thing to hell. Then patch up the holes. But - that is common place among monster movies - in that it isn't so much that the monster is a total bad ass - as the humans it is killing are stupid.
.
Amazing movie. I've seen it 20 times and watching this makes me want to see it again.
Me hiciste emocionar con semejante escena. Mis 12 años y las pesadillas con el alien. La notalgia llega y la belleza de este film.
